  1. Yeah, amazing what statistics can do to change a persons mind. Didn't like the signing at all when I read it, but then dug into Gio and realized that my opinion of his performance the past two years was wrong and misguided. He's not going to get you deep into games, but he still gets some swings and misses and is still a productive big league arm.
  2. His FIP's the last three years: 4.04, 4.16, 3.93. He's actually fine as the second acquisition. I would have preferred a higher ceiling younger guy, but I get banking on the safer veteran to fill a hole for a few months.
  3. hahah I was literally about to post the exact same thing. His numbers the past two years are WAY better than I remembered. In my mind he pitched 5 games for the Yankees and gave up 50 runs. In reality, he pitched zero games for them lol and was actually solid in Milw.
  4. Soxmachine tweets out something negative about every single minor league signing. That place is such a cancer.
  5. This is a move I really don't like for the 2nd starter spot, but in reality it's probably not much worse or better than any of the other bums.
  6. The Yankees have been targeting Cole since he was 18 years old. He was brian Cashmans favorite pitching prospect in the entirety of his career. Cole was his most sought after player. I agree with your premise but dont really think the sox have a comparable situation. Cashman was obsessed with cole.
  7. Pal, the white sox were mentioned nowhere in the Heyman tweet yet the entire comment chain was taken over by sox fans ripping the organization. As someone who uses twitter to solely follow baseball news I can tell you every fan base is not the same. The rangers, or example, have gotten destroyed on twitter but those attacks are centralized on tweets naming the rangers or on ranger beat writers. You dont see 1000 ranger fans attacking national tweets that arent about the rangers. You dont see ranger fans flooding a player like delmonico's twitter/instagram blasting him as a person and etc. Sox twitter, at this point in time, is the most toxic fanbase on baseball twitter. Sox fans arent crying about missing out on wheeler. They're crying every single time any player signs with any team. They cried about a minor league signing for god sakes. Also, I dont care if you dont reply to what I say. Was that supposed to be some shot at me? Sorry, I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting for your thoughts. Hopefully I'll do better in the future to make you like me more lol
  8. That twitter chain just shows how miserable White Sox fans are. On twitter, they honestly appear to be the most miserable group of fans in professional sports and it's nauseating to read.
  9. I doubt the #1 driver of veteran minor league contracts is performance. Maybe they like how he works? His messaging to younger pitchers? I'm not gonna waste my energy judging a minor league filler signing.
  10. The Sox still need AAA starters; for all that are up in arms about this signing.
  11. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/hunter-greene-s-elbow-injury-a-reminder-of-all-we-still-don-t-know/ Hunter Greene is always the first person who pops into my head when people talk about driveline and fixing arms who are breaking. His injury really drove home that there are no answers.
  12. 99% of these things have nothing to do with trade success.
  13. In 2013 the White Sox drafted Tim Anderson in the 1st round. In 2014 Anderson was fast tracked and finished the year at AA. In 2013 Alexei Ramirez was a 2.8 fWAR SS with elite defense. In 2014, Alexei Ramirez was a 3.3 fWAR with + defense. The plan was obviously to have Alexei play out the final year of his contract in 2015 and Anderson to be on the 2016 club. Anderson had a big 2015 but Alexei fell off the cliff - no one projected 3.3 to go to 0. You said they didn't give Semien a shot at SS. I was pointing out they already had a good SS who was a far better defender than Semien.
  14. You really cant judge the past 2-3 drafts yet. I know it's hard as a fan, but if the team gets multiple impact players out of the drafts they were a success. It's funny because the love of trackman data may have limited their pool a bit, but I still wouldn't judge the drafts quite yet.
  15. The sox had a pretty good defensive SS in 2014. They had a 3 WAR player at that position who was an elite defender
  16. Yes, I share your concerns here. I said earlier my biggest fear with this team is their MLB scouting and evaluations. It's the one thing this team has given us no reason to trust in. This organization has come a long way in the minor league evaluation department and I can say I actually trust their ability to evaluate (not develop, yet) MiLB talent.
  17. How hahn managed the Quintana market, played the patient waiting game, and then got max value DESPITE a down year for Q was by far the most impressive part of hahns tenure as GM (which isnt exactly full of glowing endorsements).
  18. My lord, the shields bs again. Hahn has traded away plenty of prospects. One lotto ticket worked against him. This narrative is so tiring. Semien was a big leaguer when he was traded and frankly, no one has any idea what he would have become here. I've said this about 1000 times, but friedman traded Yordan Alvarez for Josh Fields. Does that mean Friedman doesnt know how to trade? Everyone gets burned once in a while if you're active enough in the trade market.. Its not easy to trade three high valued assets and win every single trade; regardless of how little credit you want to give him for those moves. I dont worry about hahn getting fleeced in a trade one bit.
  19. Again with attacking the organization for the one thing theyve actually been good at recently - high profile trades.
  20. Every single east coast media piece said the Yankees would not lose out on Cole; to be fair.
  21. They want to get under the tax and reset so that the Mookie contract doesn't cost them 90 million extra in taxes. I'll believe the Red Sox are going to lose a generational talent - who has a chance to be an all-time great - when I see it happen.
  22. No, obviously not Jack but if you want to be that guy so be it.
  23. Everyone is saying nightengale report is likely nonsense. Said this before but the red sox arent trading Mookie. I also think they want to do everything they fan to resign him but they dont want to publically show that and take away the little leverage they have in shedding salaries.
