  1. On a start to start basis, this just wasn't true though. His fastball spin rate was very erratic. He had elite fastball starts where his spin rate was high, his vertical movement was top of the league, and he generated elite swing and miss percentages. In other starts, he got under his fastball and off-speed stuff, leaving a much flatter plane on the pitch with a much lower spin rate.
  2. To be fair, you should be sorting by all pitchers - not just qualified. He's 25th when you look at all arms. I'm not sure I'm ready to praise his past two seasons, but I definitely think there is big reason to have optimism pertaining to his development. The Sox seem to have found his driving force of success but getting that out of him consistently has been the challenge.
  3. I think Rick and Kenny enjoyed that moment as well. I actually enjoyed that much more than a build up to a signing, followed by the signing.
  4. No chance should the Sox give up on Reynaldo Lopez. Despite his ERA and FIP not being great, he increased his K-rate (generated more swings and misses, just inconsistently from start to start) and decreased his walk rate. He is trending in the right direction. They need to untap the potential he shows in his huge games every single start, but the talent is very clearly there.
  5. Jaysus. I hate to see this; I prefer the... "Wheeler's market is moving slowly." *1 hour later* "White Sox sign Wheeler" This 95% shit makes me say
  6. Again, as I have explained to you before. You are statically, factually, wrong, but I don't want to rehash this over and over again. If you truly believe this, you should quit your job and gamble for a living.
  7. I actually think how soft his hands and how relaxed his body is behind the plate is a big reason he leads the league in past balls so frequently.
  8. https://www.wsj.com/articles/heres-the-catch-on-yasmani-grandal-11546188449 I think that covers it a bit; not sure as I am not home so I don't have my WSJ login.
  9. I don't know what this means, but again your best hitter should hit second. That's how you maximize runs. Yoan is the best hitter on the team, so he is the prototypical 2 hitter.
  10. Your best hitter should hit 2nd. Moncada should likely hit 2nd.
  11. Grandal's walks would have accounted for roughly 1/3 of the White Sox total walks last year. lol
  12. BA literally thinks that only a minute amount of teams who make the playoffs have a chance of actually winning.
  13. 2021 is an outside shot? Come on man. This is just pure nonsense.
  14. Grandal was a PED user 10 years ago. Maybe he still is, but citing that as reason to worry is odd given how long ago that happened.
  15. Why couldn't this team win in 2020 with a couple more signings? I think people overrate how far this team is away; they had absolute abortions at two positions that really drove down their win total last year. If you had average big leaguers at those spots, they're likely a 500 team.
  16. I would bet that McCann catches Gio; these catcher/pitcher relationships are always unique and interesting. Gio doesn't give a shit about McCann's framing stats I would guess; he likes the homework he does, the game he calls and the way he receives him personally.
  17. Bruce Levine on the score pretending this was expected; after saying otherwise. Then he said the Sox now need to add a left handed bat who can hit 25 homers; I guess Bruce must think that Grandal is right handed lol.
  18. I actually love the attention Kenny brings the organization with his Bravado; I just hate how stupid it looks when he swings and misses.
  19. As long as he was off the books when some of the young guns were ready to hit FA, that's fine. Even if you have one overlapping year. Going to 5-6-7 years is where you run into the issue of evaluating who you have vs what you need to keep down the road.
  20. Puig seems like a POS, while Timmy seems like a good dude who loves to compete. I find them very different personally, but I agree they both induce immense rage from opponents lol.
  21. Come on. Welington's best year was a 2 WAR season. Grandal is about 100 times better than Welington Castillo.
  22. It would be fun to complete the Cuban National Team on the South Side; even though I'm not very interested in Puig.
  23. I'd be shocked if Grandal caught Giolito very much next year.
  24. I don't need the White Sox to be market setters for the biggest contracts in the leagues history. I need the White Sox ready to compete for the good/very good talent that exists just under that tier. The point of the rebuild was to supplement high end talent with real MLB caliber players. Stars and Scrubs doesn't work anymore. You could argue the Sox already have two Elite Horses (Yoan and Gio) and that they're not as desperate to add elite MLB talent for huge commitments... the point of the rebuild was to decrease your risk in this market, and I think this is playing out that way. I would still love a Cole signing, but I understand why the team wouldn't be committed to that tier of players. Having great young players already mitigates the risk.
  25. You literally just said: "Come on man, because it’s what the White Sox have always done. Get one 32 year old guy, and PR the fuck out of it. You’re gonna hear “we went and signed the richest contract in franchise history” a lot this year. " The implication there was this will be their splash, they'll overplay the signing and return to the status quo now. I'm not sure how else I was supposed to read this quote but for negatively.
