  1. Thanks everyone..... What could be better than seeing a White Sox Playoff Winner on you're Bday??
  2. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) Buzzing? Nobody's posting. Or am I on the wrong site? I know there are probably 20 Red Sox message boards. I'm buzzing (well not really buzzing, but...) I just have no idea what I should post. Aren't we officially in the 'wait and see' period? Nothing has really happened in two days..what are we supposed to talk about? Just waiting for the time to tick by to get this game going
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) I think so?!?! I just got a new verizon LG vx6100 camera phone last weekend. (We finally dropped Cingular) I am not completely familar with what this thing does yet. You have my phone...its a no go on the video clips...unless technology has completely passed me by at my old age.
  4. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) how so? I cant control the air I breath, I can control the drinks I put in my mouth. Best post in this thread!!! What does he win...Wendy's of course.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) They won't know times and dates until all of the teams are set. In other words we probably won't know until Sunday, maybe even Monday or Tuesday... worst case scenario. Yup...and not knowing until a day or two before the game is truly sucky. I need to be my own boss...
  6. QUOTE(BDavisFutureHOF @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 08:24 AM) Seriously -- some of these pics have had me on the verge of tears Why? Is it because Ben Davis is noticably absent from any of the photographs?
  7. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) What is the point of the 1 game playoff if the Sox and Indians finish with the same record. Everything I am seeing is that if we both finish with the same record we win because of the head to head numbers. Why did mlb have a coin toss to decide that there would be a playoff game held at Cleveland if the Sox and Indians tie. The playoff would have only been played if Boston and NYY finished with better or the exact same records as us. Basically there is no reason to hold playin games if there is no one to eliminate.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) Easy Boston wins the ALE, Sox and Indians tie for the ALC and Wild Card, Sox get the division by virtue of their head to head record, Indians get the Wild Card, Yankees go home at 93-69 completely out of the playoffs. The only way we can end up in a playoff game is if we lose out, Boston goes 3-1 and NYY goes 2-2. Which could happen. Then we would have to play the loser of their playoff game for the wild card... but lets be honest thats not gonna happen...this will all be over in about 5 hours!
  9. Wait a second, so if we win today, we win the division? Why is this sooooooo confusing? :banghead
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWA:IT How about the "Just Minor's" cards? Are they worth anything? Usually minor league cards have pretty large print runs so they are not all that valuable. The only minor league cards that are sometimes worth a decent amount of money are the team sets. Team sets are hard to find and often even harder to find in good condition. You did say you were looking for a type of card to get autographed and to be honest that card would look really cool signed. I've always been one to get a less expensive card signed anyway. So if you're buying this card for that reason its a good purchase.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) As KW proved last year, sometimes you have to trade high-price quality players in order to give your team more flexibility, etc. Of course, I'd rather get rid of Duque, and go with that great 5 man rotation. That's not likely though with our payroll and weak offense. Unless we can just get a huge amount of talent in return for Contreras I still doubt they will move him. Either that, or anyone to replace Podsednik. I don't know who would trade for El Duque....we shall see
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) I like it, but I dont. Interesting idea, I just dont like another ? mark at the 5th spot. We dont know if Cotts can start, we just dont. If he fails, then we throw El Duque back in the mix. He is not going to get younger in the off-season. I just feel 100% better with Brandon as a 5th starter, rather than as a 4th. However, it is something to look into. I do like the 8 mil coming off the books for Count. Alot. If Jose pitches well down the stretch and in the playoffs then 8 million is a bargain for a pitcher with his talent. We won't move him if he continues to have solid starts...
  13. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) other teams' fans just can't stand the fact the White Sox are still in first place I don't understand the logic behind this post at all... If I was a Yankees, Angels, or Red Sox fan I would be more than happy with the White Sox winning the Central. And what makes you think they 'can't stand' us being in first place? Is this a conspiracy theory or a woe-is-me philosophy?
  14. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) Not only is it not easy, there is no room. Cotts has been one of the best reliever in the game. With Marte likley being shipped out, Cotts will play a much bigger role next season. He better. He fits our role as a reliever...agreed. Down the line when he wants to start and has an opportunity to bolt, don't get upset....thats all I'm saying. Theres not many pitchers who want to spend their entire 15 year MLB career as a lefty specialist. Jesse Orosco excluded of course....
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) Of course that came after 5 minutes of fore shadowing excuses. How difficult it is, etc. haha...of course it did. at least they were pre-apologizing for Joe. When Blum stepped up they both fell silent, I think they were both shocked that he was batting in that situation.
  16. QUOTE(1549 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) I don't think Blum deserves the blame for this one. Too many runners were stranded in the game to point the finger at Blum's gidp. Nevermind the fact that he also hasn't had an AB in over a week... I was glad to hear Hawk and DJ comment on how good of a job Borchard did during his AB, getting solid wood on the ball on a tough pitch on the outside corner.
  17. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) We need a healthy Pods. A healthy Hermy, a consistent DH (#3 hole hitter), re-sign Pauly, trade Marte and El-duque for anything, we need a new hitting coach, a lefty reliever, need to have Bmac in the rotation full time, and a 3B with more power. I love Crede lately but this is his last season here. I never said Pods wasn't vital to our success in the first half...If he is healthy he can help an offense. I'm talking right here right now, I can't believe all the threads about 'next year'
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) Calm down. You were talking about the old line-up. The old style of play of hitting homers instead of this Ozzieball that everyone is talking about. Pods certainly isn't the reason this team has 94 wins, nor is Iguchi or AJ. Its the pitching. Amen...the pitching staff has been so good ALL SEASON it has gotten to the point of people here expecting this to keep up day in and day out. How quickly they forgot a few years ago when the ERA was an entire run higher. That is why I almost think we should just fill the lineup with power hitters (borchard, gload, Anderson, whoever) because you ONLY have to score 3-4 runs a game to win the way the pitchers are going right now.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) So.....last year's lineup, with the addition of El Duque would be better than third place? Because you cant add Hermy, Vizcaino, or AJ with the old lineup. Wait, or Iguchi. So Ben Davis is catching, Willie harris is playing 2B, not to mention our bullpen. Think again perfect world guy. Read what he wrote. He never said that it was a real world scenario. He simply stated IF we had the offense of 2003-2004...
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) The old line-up and the current pitching staff would do a heck of a lot better than 3rd place. You know that. This team has already won 15 or 16 games scoring 2 or less runs. 2003 and 2004 they won 2 each year. Considering in 2003 they won 86, give them an extra 13 would be 99 victories, hardly third place. This team is the worst in the league hitting with RISP. They have won 94 games. It doesn't add up, and I would be willing to bet if they are the worst in the league hitting with RISP next season, 3rd place might be fortunate. I couldn't agree with you more. Put the 2003 offense with this pitching staff...we would've won 100 plus games or more already at this point.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) Wow, I wasnt aware that RBI's and sacrafices were the key to being a lead off hitter. I was sure it was getting on base and hitting singles. I guess I was wrong..... :banghead You're leadoff hitter is only guaranteed to leadoff the game ONE FREAKING TIME. I think you would be suprised how little Pods were to pull in a trade...I doubt there is half the interest in him that you think he has.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) And what has he hit in sept? It's an EMPTY AVERAGE...I'm well aware that he has hit well in September. But when you're a singles hitter and are unable to knock in runs, steal bases and consistently get runners over (yes I know he bunted sucessfully last night) you have a minimal amount of value. One of the main reasons our offense is so inept is the lack of production from LF. Your outfield has to score and produce runs. When Pods was moving on the basepaths and setting the table that was his one extremely valuable asset to this team. Pods without the baserunning is simply not good enough to start everyday in LF. The facts are clear as day, I can't spell it out any better than that...
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) PODS? Your first half MVP?? Everyone was slurping this guy until this slide. Who is your lead off hitter than you are bring in then? I love how quickly everyone can turn on this team, when you were all singing their praises as the best white sox team ever in the first half. Boy, I'd hate to be your friends, one time I would let you down and you would abandon me. Success in the sports world is NOT about loyalty and happy endings. As fans we can hope that so and so will stay with the team and remain productive, etc, etc.... Look how the NE Patriots release their so-called 'money-players' year after year when they notice they're skills begin to decline. Can you fault them for not being loyal? Definitely...but can you fault the end results? Three Super Bowl wins? I doubt it. Professional Sports, no matter how you sugarcoat it, is a what have you done for me lately business.
  24. I still kinda wonder if they should ever consider using him as a starter...I don't know what his personal agenda is but like most young pitchers I'm sure his ideal situation would be as a starting pitcher. He seems to have happily accepted his role but in the future he may want to once again start. But keeping on the positive - Great year Neal!!
