  1. I understand. But when the discussion is about the best WS player of all time...for one season he is probably the winner.
  2. I agree with your comments. Allen doesn't come to mind for today's fan because he didn't play the majority of his career with the WS. He was a show stopper when it was his turn to bat.
  3. I believe the question as posed means all-around best player. Frank Thomas will be remembered for his hit and power tools for sure. Robert goes off the charts because of his 5 tool capabilities.
  4. To use an expression used here recently..." don't piss on our Cheerios."
  5. Pito made himself into a good defensive 1st baseman and is much better defensively than Frank. IMO Jose is much better than the best Frank was...mainly because of Frank's terrible arm.
  6. Yeah...well, they missed something IMO.
  7. Good fielder but had absolutely no arm.
  8. Dick Allen doesn't get talked about enough on this forum. He was undoubtedly a special player. I feared for the pitcher on more than a few occasions.
  9. I believe 2/3 of this team have or will be on an all-star team during their careers. Talent everywhere I look. I don't like to leave my seat when we are batting because something exciting can happen from everywhere in the lineup. There was a time I would arrange a bathroom break or make some popcorn around when Frank Thomas or Dick Allen would be batting...now the whole team has me leaving my pitcher to fend for himself.
  10. 100% in agreement with these comparisons. This year's team when all healthy is by far the best squad including 2005 and for that matter 1959.
  11. Kimbrel has been very bad so far and Moneyball was a good movie. Oh yeah...and Hendriks has looked really good sometimes but not always.
  12. If the NL approves the DL he will be traded for something half decent IMO.
  13. ReyLo, Cease, and Rodon are all pretty much lights-out at this time. Get the bullpen figured out and start the playoffs asap.
  14. Lynn appears to be going through a dead arm period. A 10 day DL might be in his future. He's a must to be in top shape for the playoffs or we're done before they start.
  15. If the bullpen guys are lockdown in the playoffs...all will be forgiven. People will be claiming to have never had a doubt.
  16. Tell me about it. Only a WS win will make the price paid worthwhile.
  17. Well, the answer to that is a resounding NO.
  18. Thus the importance of Eloy and Vaughn playing the outfield when in NL parks...everyone can't be the DH when it's allowed either.
  19. Tony will probably make up the lineup with Leury and Goodwin in the OF and Lamb at third with Z behind the plate. That's about as weakened as he can make the lineup. I imagine utility-type players love playing for Tony. To be fair...having well-rested starters and game-ready utility backups might very well be the right thing to do. Like everyone else, I enjoy those lineups that can produce 17 runs but the main priority is winning the WS.
  20. When Keuchel pitches well his unfazed manner plays well...when he pitches like crap his unbothered attitude annoys me to no end.
  21. 1. Keuchel will not be in the post-season rotation and is probably out of the regular season rotation very soon. Lopez appears to have found himself. 2. TRL is giving Kimbrel every chance to "find himself" ...he obviously has the talent but currently seems to be struggling between the ears. 3. He will be in relief for playoffs and has added considerably to his value which was at approximately zero one month ago.
  22. That's a very interesting statistic.
  23. I expect Lopez and Kuechel to exchange spots effective immediately.
