  1. Excellent for Burger but no to Vaughn.
  2. He has a beautiful swing IMO. Perhaps it's your TV feed.
  3. A new owner with deep pockets along with a new FO would certainly be good for heating up the off-season. Might not be as far-fetched as some would think.
  4. We needed you in the playoffs, Jack. Please don't leave us again.
  5. Some interesting thoughts to ponder.
  6. Who cares if Ron cheers for the Cubs? Why should any of us care?
  7. Sheets and Vaughn are both playable and you need to play these high draft pieces somewhere. If all they are is trade chips they shouldn't have been drafted in the first place.
  8. "Spectacular" was used to describe what they don't provide.
  9. Eloy, Vaughn, and Sheets all play a solid if not spectacular defense. They handle the basic play very dependably IMO. Over the years I have seen many big bats with bad gloves hidden in the outfield as they need to play somewhere. These guys are considerably better than that.
  10. When I suggest a platoon of Vaughn and Sheets `I am sure to hear about them not having the necessary speed. While it's obvious that we would like a Robert at each position...that is not financially feasible. When I consider a Leury in RF vs a Vaughn/Sheets I can't see very many runs saved by Leury. These guys need to be utilized until Jose's retirement happens IMO. Spend the money we have on 2nd base and pitching.
  11. I hope we don't solve the logjam by trading the young guys while we keep the old guys.
  12. I don't loath Reinsdorf but I'm in the same boat with everything else you say. It would be fun for a while to have a billionaire fan-type owner that wants to win at all cost. Maybe the next owner will be that type.
  13. Not real interested in NL castoffs but this is a real nice player if available at the right price.
  14. We actually encourage weird and annoying.
  15. No...never a Cubs fan. My threat is to join our group of FO/ownership detractors.
  16. I am trying to say our young high draft picks need to be developed for our use not used as trade chips for aging former stars.
  17. As someone who is frequently accused of being too easy on the FO...let me just say that if either Vaughn or Eloy are deemed expendable like my boy Madrigal...I will be going over to the other side. We need to develop our young guys like Eloy, Robert, Vaughn, Burger, Sheets and to a lesser extent Collins.
  18. If it's my money I don't gamble 16 million on the chance I can turn him into someone else's castoff. Admit we made a mistake and say goodbye.
  19. There was a time during the season when we had the pitching to win the WS. Rodon and Lynn matched up well with any other 1/2 pair in baseball. They just wore out with shoulder and knee problems. The other three guys just weren't up to the task of carrying the load. Gio and Cease still show signs and the Lopez rebound is encouraging. Kopech and Crochet for the most part were not very impressive IMO. I very much like Sheets and Vaughn is very good for how he is being rushed. It wouldn't bother me if Sheets and Vaughn formed an RF tandem since we already have many options for DH. Spend the money at 2nd base and in the rotation. Eloy showed me he can handle LF adequately and Robert will be a future MVP. We have lots of good pieces but 2nd and RF need to be resolved.
  20. No team wins in the playoffs when their starting pitching is nonexistent. Our hitting was atrocious and our defense bad. Let's face it...the better team won.
  21. poppysox replied to loidwalden's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I fully agree with you...but unfortunately, that horse has left the barn.
  22. Koufax also went from no control as a newbie to pinpoint. Wish our coaches could figure out how to teach control. Lopez has re-established himself with a faster tempo and improved control. He's not good but much improved.
  23. How much would you need to pay Wilbur Wood in today's game? I pitcher capable of handling both ends of a doubleheader. Unreal!
