  1. If Boston was willing to trade Garciaparra for Garland, what would you say?
  2. Reinsdorf was talking to Mike North the other day, and he said that he expects the Cubs will be able to play in Wrigley, that Wrigley is safe, etc., but he also said that during the baseball season the Sox have veto power over other uses of the park. So the Sox would have a little leverage.
  3. I gotta remember...math in the morning, not my strong suit. Still he's kinda old.
  4. Has anyone noticed that in December he'll be 34 f***ing years old? I have no problem in trading Sweeney, but Floyd's numbers are in decline hr rbi obp slg avg 2001 31 103 .390 .578 .317 2002 28 79 .434 .289 2003 18 68 .376 .518 .290 2004 13 46 .357 .498 .278 I hope it works out but I'm not optimistic or thrilled by Floyd. Hell of a barber, tho.
  5. yes, they suffer from rossgloaditis
  6. I'll bet if the Billy Koch meltdown hadn't been a Sunday night from the West Coast, it would have been close to a record. I couldn't sleep and got up at 3:00 to post my venom.
  7. This is from Paul Ladewski's column, and I have edited it down to leave out the fluff. The Sox owe to themselves and their fans to think big. Real big. Yeah, even Randy Johnson big. If sources are correct, the Sox have quietly emerged as a player in the hunt for the Diamondbacks stud pitcher. The question is whether the Big Unit can be convinced to play here and whether the Sox have the minor league prospects to get him. While the Sox unraveled liked a ball of yarn Wednesday, Ken Williams was holed up all day in what one member of the organization called an important conference. Is it a doable deal financially? Why not? If the sox are unable to resign Ordonez at their price, then they can let him walk and pocket his 14 million dollar salary. They can use that money to defray much of what the Big Unit will be paid next season, the final one of his contract. Loaiza and Valentin also exit via the free agent door after the season. What's more, the Sox are in positon to attract upward of 2.2 million in attendance if they stay in the division race for the duration, something the addition of Johnson almost guarantees. As board chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said the other day, "We can't afford the payroll of some other teams, but money isn't a problem here." The darn Yankee$ are, natch. Still, the talk on the street is that the yankees lack the prospects to make it happen. Turns out Steinbrenner and Jerry Coangelo arent the best of buds, either. If Colangelo can convince the Big Unit to come here, than the Illinois graduate will do his native South Side right proud, you think? White Sox Nation awaits.
  8. I would hope that he plays winter ball as a starter, stretch his arm out some. I'm not sold on him yet, but I'd like to give him another chance as a starter, and now is not the time to send him down.
  9. The nonwaiver trade deadline is 3:00 pm on Saturday. If we wound up with nothing but Randall Simon...that's like getting wool socks for Christmas. Gee thanks, Uncle Kenny. Now where's my goddam bike?
  10. The title of this thread is "Anyone else feel like we beat ourselves today"? Gee, ya think?
  11. If the sticking point to getting Randy Johnson was Ryan Sweeney, I'd trade Ryan Sweeney.
  12. No. Any ball that has not bounced in front of the bag - that is, goes over the bag in the air - that ball is fair or foul depending on where it lands. How high it is doesn't matter. In fact, here's the official rule: "A Fair ball is a batted ball that settles on fair ground between home and first base, or between home and third base, or that is on or over fair territory when bounding to the outfield past first or third base, or that touches first, second or third base, or that first falls on fair teritory on or beyond first or third base, or that, while on or over fair territory touches the person of an umpire or player, or that, while over fair territory, passes out of the playing field in flight."
  13. We can't wait until tonight! We must do it this afternoon!
  14. CWS, I've been around for 54 years of this, but this is the first I've heard that we lost one season to drugs. Could you provide some specifics about this? I know Ron LeFlore had some rumors going on - is that what you're referring to? Or 1984, the year that should have been? Spill, please.
  15. Ok, this has sucked. But it's not even August, Minny has a tough schedule, maybe KW has a trade ready for the weekend. There's plenty of time later to quit on the Sox, don't need to start now. Remember: it's a long season, and you gotta trust it.
  16. Arow leads the American League in hitting the first pitch. He's hitting .488 when he puts the first pitch in play. Jim Edmonds is hitting .640 at this. First pitch fastball, not a good idea against these guys. From today's Chicago Tribune
  17. I apologize in advance for those of you who don't like anonymous quotes, but here goes. On Boers and Bernstein today, they read from an Indiana newspaper (one I never heard of and, no I don't remember which paper it was) whose beat guy obtained a quote from an anonymous Sox player. The player allegedly said Mike Jackson would never hit Tory Hunter, they were old buddies from when Jackson played for the Twins. The player also said that Jackson would retaliate in other instances, but not if it involved hitting Hunter. I did a google search on Mike Jackson but didn't find a story, and I looked through a list of Indiana newspapers, and couldn't pinpoint the paper. So, yeah, you can rip me for being vague on the details, but that's what was on the air this morning.
