  1. If TLR sitting in those meetings caused him to advise JR to dump Hahn and Williams I am fine with him sitting in meetings.
  2. I've heard the rumor that there was a higher bidder and that info was withheld from JR. But the rumor that a company was willing to spend tens of millions for naming rights and wouldn't even use their name is so ridiculous that it shouldn't even be repeated. Any exec making that deal would be fired on the spot.
  3. I suspect that statement was made just to keep the BS narrative that baseball owners don't make money. The investment in the team grew from $20 million (which included the team, ballpark and lots of land) to $1.5 billion maybe (team only) in the time he has been around. Doubt he is actually telling his family to dump this investment, particularly since his son seems to enjoy this type of investment.
  4. If you look at Michael Reinsdorf career history, which includes minor league ownership and stadium construction projects, along with running the Bulls, it is impossible to not consider the possibility he would want to run the Sox.Its almost as if his entire career is an internship to prepare for this.
  5. You are contradicting yourself. In one instance you are saying he will never sell the team while alive, which is likely accurate. On the other hand you say he wouldn't lower the value because he won't get as much when he sells. He may be 88, but if I didn't know that I would swear he is in his seventies. Unless he has something going on we don't know about its possible he could pull a Virginia McCaskey. And there is definitely a ballpark battle coming up. He is not getting more money from Illinois. If Nashville, or anyone else offers a new park with a ballpark village and all the cash flows that come with it the Sox are gone. And probably worth a billion more instantly. And MLB didn't protect us during possible moves to St Pete, Denver, Seattle or Milwaukee. Why would they now, especially if attendance and tv ratings are low?
  6. It's pretty much impossible to destroy the value of a franchise. The A's were purchased in 2005 for $180 million, and are worth around $1.2 Billion despite the fact that they have done everything possible to drive away fans as they relocate. that value will skyrocket once they are in their shiny new ballpark, something that will never happen here but could easily happen in Nashville. Explain why the Sox do nothing from a marketing standpoint, continuously drive away season ticket holders by ignoring them and jacking up prices, hire the least competent people for key positions, and don't bother hiring even the minimal number of staff to work the ballpark. Nobody is this incompetent, and you can argue with JR's decisions over the years, but there was never a point in his ownership before the last couple of years where everything went to s%*# at the same time as has happened.
  7. The Bulls and Sox have common ownership. The fact that one team is doing this and the other is doing absolutely nothing is evidence that the Sox are intentionally destroying their fan base to justify a move. If the Sox are drawing 1.2 million, MLB will never stop the move to Nashville. JR will go from being loathed by his team's fans to being a local hero in Nashville, the team will have a honeymoon period of multiple years with the fans and media, and JR will end up with a statue on the concourse there as the man who brought MLB to Nashville. No more competing with the Cubs for local exposure and fans, no more dealing with a Cubs oriented media, no more listening to Sox fans complaining about what TV station they were on 40 years ago or the direction the ballpark faces. And a team located in a growing market that has proven it can support major league sports instead of a city with no growth prospects. The White Sox have long been in the bottom half of the league for attendance and TV ratings, 32 times in the last 50 years.
  8. Well it's not like your high school can just up and move to Nashville if they piss off everyone in their area.
  9. She may not be the best option, may not be good enough for many teams, but she is 10 times more qualified than anyone the Sox have hired in the 21st century. Our bar is set a little lower, and she clears it easily.
  10. Any reason to believe JR is bitter towards her? I've heard him talk about her multiple times and was nothing but positive. Same for her about JR.
  11. Nobody believes Getz is a "Sole decision Maker". He has a boss (JR) that he reports to, who can and will overrule any decision Getz makes that he disagrees with. The Sox haven't had a sole decision maker in the GM role for 50 years at least. JR naming Ng President and saying she is taking over some of his oversight role as he is 87 years old makes sense and doesn't change Getz's responsibilities or role in the least, and kind of makes sense.
  12. Well...if you can say one thing for the White Sox is that they are consistent year to year. No instability here, we all know what to expect on an ongoing basis.
  13. Men committing physical violence against women is wrong. Only exception is self defense and only to the degree necessary to avoid injury to self. If a woman is so f***ed up mentally that she requests you choke her out, or punch her, walk away. If a homeless person on the street offered to let you kick them in the face for $10, would you consider that OK as well. After all, they offered, right?
  14. Just because a woman asks you to commit violent acts against her doesn't make the man committing those acts any less disgusting of a human being. He had the option to say no. Instead he did it because he took pleasure in almost killing a woman for sexual gratification. Her devious motives only exposed Bauer, didn't make him any less of a piece of s%*#.
  15. I said their intentions were correct. Obviously the execution of those intentions was not.
  16. I would assume the fact that Mike's son ended up working for the Sox would indicate fences mended between Reinsdorf and the Veeck family. Einhorn's comment was stupid and insensitive. But the Sox did need to start acting like a Major League ballclub, their intentions were correct. Should have shut up and just made the changes everyone knew were necessary.
  17. The story of Mike Veeck and his family makes it worth watching, even if not a fan of Bill. Bill's story and the story of Disco Demolition are mere background to Mike's remarkable and somewhat tragic story, and the way he recovered his life and used his life lessons to help others recover their lives transcends the Sox related stuff.
  18. The Polo Grounds sucked the first time around, no need to replicate it here. Good luck signing power hitters with 420 foot power alleys, good luck getting MLB to approve 290 foul lines, good luck dealing with the sun in day games facing due north, good luck selling lots of outfield seats that appear to be 600 feet or more from home plate. There is a reason this wasn't taken seriously and none of the next 20 or so ballparks built took inspiration from this plan. As I recall, he also advocated no parking lots whatsoever.
  19. How about Hillside? Easy access from 88,290,294. Blue line and Metra.near. Very central to entire area.
  20. I doubt the 20% number, the CTA doesn't even run anywhere near enough trains to handle 4000 people before and after games. Anyway even if true it would be easily replaced by those who are suddenly only 15-30 minutes away from the park. Lots of people in the suburbs don't want to battle the rush hour traffic on the expressways for an 60-80 minute slog to 35th St.
  21. The whole "southside" team issue is based on a decision the Sox made over 120 years ago. Their fanbase hasn't been there for decades now. Move out to the west/ southwest suburbs and make the drive 30 minutes or so for a huge number of potential ticket buyers and watch attendance soar. The Soldier Field thing is nuts. Even assuming they tear it down and build a new park there it would be so inaccessible to the majority of the Chicagoland area it would be horrible. Many Sox fans would see their travel time increase 15 minutes or so, and it sucks now. Put it in the middle of the Chicagoland population to minimize travel time, not on the east edge of it.
  22. We need all Sox fans to stop complaining about Sal Perez. The way JR has been acting the last few years he may demand Getz acquire him simply to stick it to us again. We should be demanding the Sox acquire him at ANY cost.
  23. Seems to me that telling over 50% of the market to go screw yourselves, we don't want your business, isn't exactly a genius move either.
  24. He was actually wearing a Cubs hat when he entered the field, but it fell off quickly. You could see it on the warning track in the background during the attack.
