Comparing Arihara to Sugano is like comparing Wheeler to Strasburg or Cole. Just look at the stats, its not even close
-
31 isn't an issue when you're talking about contending immediately. I'd rather go with the superior player than the younger one. You were proposing a trade for 34 year old with repeated injury problems. Rather keep Cease and go with Sugano. Maybe I'm wrong with Sugano, but to me likely outcomes range from TOR to solid #3. I don't know if I agree with that. The cutter he has developed the last couple years might be the best pitch he's ever had at this point. Dude just put up a .160 batting, .200 slugging against with zero home runs allowed season, slightly lower if you include post season closer to .150/.190
-
From what I've read and seen, he has decent velocity on his fastball but excellent movement along with a six pitch repertoire with which he has outstanding command, throws from various angles, and you can throw him out there at 100-120 pitches every time. Basically a bulldog with the stuff to back it up. Always some risk with NPB players, but I don't think anyone comparable has failed at mlb level recently. Tanaka might be comparable, although I think Sugano might have more tricks up his sleeve
-
Under my scenario, dunning and kopech would still be duking it out at #5. You'd have Gio, Sugano, Keuchel and Lynn, and wouldn't have to give up Cease or anyone to acquire Sugano. Sugano is a workhorse stud, best pitcher in NPB. It's petty, but I'd prefer the cubs stay burned on that Eloy trade as well. Giving them Cease back, they could conceivably end up winning that trade. As for Colome, I was going relatively budget there since Sox would have to spend on Sugano. Colome has a longer track record of sustained success than those guys anyway, even if they have better stuff. Probably be more amenable to sliding to a setup role in a year or two if Bummer or someone emerges as clear superior option to close. I'd take any of those guys though, sure.

Randy Arozarena arrested after allegedly trying to abduct his daughter
Vulture replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm guessing Mexico isn't going to take too kindly to a foreigner trying to abduct a Mexican national, even if it is her father. Reported assault on top of that. Nice knowing you Randy -
I'm sold on a Lynn/Gallo trade. Then sign Sugano and Colome and call it a day
-
Gallo is a free agent after '22. Considering those are two prime contention years, that would be pretty valuable IMO.
-
I hated Dunn, but if he was only expected to be our sixth or seventh best hitter it would have been a lot easier to stomach
-
Gallo isnt eligible for free agency until '23. Not sure Dunn comparison is apt. Gallo is a gold glove right fielder, so he'd still be providing some value whether he hit or not. Considering he wouldn't necessarily be required to be a primary producer in the lineup, unlike Dunn who was supposed to be Konerko's mid order partner carrying the offense, can run the bases, still has upside, etc, its a completely different scenario. You're comparing an out of shape over the hill DH to an athletic 26 year old. Not crazy about the idea of having to carry Andrus on the roster though. If you're going to replace Madrigal at second, why not get one of the numerous superior options available that will probably be signed to similar amount as Andrus? Might as well just include Madrigal in package for Lynn and Gallo and refrain from saddling the roster with an unwanted player. Then sign Wong or LaStella
-
Why not just say who you are talking about instead of leaving us to guess??
-
Could be a bit less than 25, but either way, if that's the case seems like a no brainer to me. Sox would get compensation pick for their troubles, irk cubs fans and stack their lineup for a '21 WS run without dipping into their top talent? Then go back to the drawing board for RF next off season when conditions will probably be more favorable. I'd do that all day.

I'd negotiate with the Rays, put anyone they showed serious interest in on the do not touch list, then sign this goofy bastard, shown here posing after his third straight complete game shutout:

I'll judge him like I judge everything else. By the mensuration of the blood splatters of a six week old lamb, chicken bones and jackdaw tail feather under the black eye of the new moon, thank you very much

Because there was no minor league season. 2020 was technically his age 23 season. So he had a solid season at AA at age 22.
-
Of course he's full of it. Cheese on an Al's beef is a god damned travesty. That's all I need to know.

This could be your most sensical post yet. I'm telling ya, there's something innate in the cub fan, latent or otherwise, that can be sniffed out like a phermone. You don't exactly know what it is, you just know it like a sixth sense.

FS: 40 Man Roster Decisions and Rule 5 Draft Implications
Vulture replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He'd be more likely to be taken off waivers when he has to be cleared to make room on the forty man. Can't really afford to carry anyone on the 40 you don't expect to help out in '21. -
Then they'd have Conforto-Springer-Nimmo. The hope of trading for Nimmo was already contingent upon them acquiring a center fielder leaving them with an extra corner outfielder. If they didnt acquire a centerfielder, the odds of moving him would have been zilch. Now even if they do, a team would probably have to overpay to pry him away.
-
That actually clears up a jam. Now they can play Nimmo and Conforto at the corners with McNeil at second. Puts a damper on any Nimmo trade hopes for sure.
-
You actually think the motivation of brush back pitches was hurt feelings? I'd say it had more to do with domination, intimidation , control and psychological warfare. HBP rates were actually lower back then. Now batters think they can just stand on top of the plate without budging, and flip out over a pitch couple inches inside, as if they're supposed to be allowed to just sit comfortably in the box, take their three home run cuts in their wheelhouse then go sit down, walk to first or round the bases
-
I'd be willing to bet Bryant outproduces Springer over the next five years, if it weren't for the fact I don't have patience for a five year bet.
-
Sugano is purported to be posted after the NPB championship series is over. He's looking more attractive as a second choice to Bauer with stroman and Gausman off the market if you ask me.

What logjam? We have Abreu and Vaughn at 1b/DH. I don't see any other high value players in the mix there
