La Russa arrested for DUI in Feb; charged day before hire
Vulture replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Personally I couldn't care less. No one got hurt. Just don't let him drive the bus, problem solved. -
Probably, but that will still be an improvement over the catching situation for at least half the league.
-
Sorry, but just the fact that Renteria pinch hit Collins in a key situation in game 2 of the playoffs when he could look down the bench and see an actual professional hitter in McCann, who never even entered the game, along with the Berrios benching in a key game against divisional rival fighting for first place, alone proves that Renteria's use of McCann was anything but masterful. McCann out WARed Grandal in half the playing time. No way an extra 30-40 at bats would have been anything but beneficial. That alone could have been the difference between first place, not to mention all of Renteria's other boneheaded moves.
-
Still would have been better than Encarnacion or pinch hitting Zack Collins. I think there was a long ways between his utilization and over exposure. For example, McCann rode the bench against I think it was Berrios when he had four home runs and something like a .400 BA. No way putting him in the lineup would have been over exposure in that case. A hot bat is a hot bat. Put the hot bat in the lineup when the alternative is garbage.

Is that PA or ABs for Pederson/Engel. I'm seeing 479 ABs not PA for Springer
-
The under utilization of McCann was one of my major knocks on Renteria, among many. So many times he could have been used as pinch hitter, and should have got more starts at DH. His loss definitely diminishes the teams on multiple levels. Going to miss him more than most, that is for sure.
-
Why would McCann sign a one or two year deal? He would be a vast improvement for a lot of teams and he's at his maximum free agent value at his age probably
-
Maybe, but Mets fans have been talking McCann for weeks.
-
I doubt La Russa would have tolerated the Eaton/LaRoche/Sale shenanigans. Probably wouldn't have even happened in the first place. I don't particularly care for La Russa, but Ventura he is not.
-
Eaton would be far lower on the totem pole than he was before if he returned to the Sox. We've got the veteran leadership in Abreu, Keuchel, Anderson, Grandal, who are backed and beloved by the young potential superstars in Jimenez, Robert, etc. He wouldn't have his cohorts in douchiness like before. I wonder if Eaton's personality would even have any effect. He'd either have to get on board or keep to himself I'd think.

What if we can get him as 4th OF and DH fall back option though? Not sure the roster size next year, but if the Sox can carry five OFers, give me JBJ or Gallo, if he can be had without giving up prime prospects, and Dahl. JBJ Gallo Pederson Rosario Would be my order of preference. Then if you can get Dahl or Sung-Bum for OF/DH depth at a reasonable price and have the space, that would be ideal. Grandal catcher abreu Vaughn madrigal Anderson Moncada Leury Mendick Jimenez Robert JBJ/Gallo/Pederson or Rosario Dahl or Sung-Bum Engel

He tried playing through a shoulder injury that he didnt tell the team about before having surgery in September.

What about Lenyn Sosa at ten from last year's list? Seems equally bizarre. Maybe they get to ten and throw a dart. -
How does his injury issues effect him moving forward? Seems strange they'd cut him in his first year of arb when he probably wouldn't cost that much.

True but that's why you wait for a rebuild to start to come to fruition before devoting an inordinate proportion of payroll to a single player.

How so. He was better in 2020, and he was better before 2020.

I can't believe people are still crying about Machado and Wheeler. Makes no sense to devote close to 25% of payroll to Machado when you have two all star caliber players on the left side of the infield already, and the Sox signed a superior pitcher for significantly less than what Wheeler signed. Continuing to escalate the price for Wheeler when Keuchel was available at his price would have been the wrong move.

Not sure that's true. Fastball is by far the most common pitch on a strikeout which suggests secondary pitches set up the fast ball more often than not. Of course it varies from pitcher to pitcher
-
Pretty sure any starting pitcher would get killed if they threw nothing but fastballs
-
His fastball would probably be more effective if he had a better pitch to set it up. I don't see how it follows that a guy's best pitch is eliminated due to trouble locating a fastball. Was throwing an inferior slider instead supposed to be the fix?

I still think Lopez's problems might be solved primarily by simply giving him his curveball back. I hope we find out. Still haven't heard a reasonable explanation for taking it away, and I suspect it may have been a contributing factor in Cooper's firing. Cooper decided to get experimental and failed, but was too stubborn to adjust. Makes no sense when Lopez had a hammer of a curveball
-
You don't?? Pitching coach is more important than the manager IMO. You can't definitively conclude that a specifc player succeeded or failed due to the coach, but I think its pretty evident that pitchers generally require intensive coaching to reach their maximum level of performance.

If no new RF by Nontender deadline, should Sox tender Mazara?

Yeah I guess I'm wrong. My bad. -

Where is your evidence to your claim a team can only negotiate a contract with their player years prior to arb eligibility?? I posted the CBA above for easy reference. -

How am I supposed to provide evidence that a non existent restriction doesn't exist? How about you provide evidence arbitration years can only be bought out years in advance? Fact is a team can negotiate a contract with a player on their team at any time. Here is the current CBA: https://d39ba378-ae47-4003-86d3-147e4fa6e51b.filesusr.com/ugd/b0a4c2_95883690627349e0a5203f61b93715b5.pdf Good luck.
