2024 White Sox Opening Day thread 3/28 3:10 first pitch vs Detroit
Give the guy a break, Jeez really calling him an idiot says a lot about why you come to SOXTALK. Were watching baseball, not the announcers.

Lorenzen signs w/Rangers 1/$4.5 million
Or maybe he wanted to play for a World Series winner with great defense and hitting in a 1 year proof it deal. If he ends up with a winning record and a nice stat line he'll be able to sign a guaranteed multimillion dollar contract. Or maybe as you suggest we don't know anything and are are just speculating.

Lorenzen signs w/Rangers 1/$4.5 million
Agree, I think you summed it up with........ "or wanted to go to a contender".

Lorenzen signs w/Rangers 1/$4.5 million
SoxTalk is great, but if Getz didn't sign anyone and waited this long to sign a SP, this board would have been all over him. You can't go into Spring training with 1 legitimate starter, especially when you know that you were planning on trading him. Sox had to sort thru the available the SP's within their expected budget and get them signed early so they can work with the new catchers in Spring training.

Grade the Cease trade
Wasn't Joe Bochard, Brian Anderson, Moncada and Kopeck all can't miss prospects for the White Sox?
-
Grade the Cease trade
Hard to grade because the Padres don't really know which Cease their getting, so I'll give the Sox a B and the Padres C+ that could easily turn into a B or A+. Will the Padres get the Cease who gets frustrated when he can't control his slider and falls behind in counts and runs up his pitch count. Or the dominate Cease that lights up the strike zone and fools hitters with his pitch selections. One doesn't really know, I think Cease can't control his emotions much like Kopeck except with better stuff. That leads to high pitch counts and walks which eventually lead to runs. The Sox defense was no help to his pitch count or frustrations so maybe he'll become the dominate pitcher that scouts thought he would become with his electric stuff behind the Padres defense and the expanse of Petco Park. Prospects are prospects and rankings are subjective so the Sox don't really know what their getting either, however the scouting reports look promising on all 3 prospects and the middle reliever will come in handy this season. This is a trade that could turn into 3 quality players for 1, depending on how the prospects pan out. In conclusion, both teams did well with this trade and each are taking risks with the players their getting back. Both teams grades have the possibilities of becoming A which is what you want in a trade.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Makes no sense to accept "poor value back" when you have control of him for another two years. Ask for the most and settle on something a little less. Time is on the Sox side, competing teams in the hunt will buckle if they have a SP need to put them over the hump whether or not Cease is considered a #1 or #2 SP. That and spring training or early season injuries will be enough to get someone to bite. The Sox are in no hurry to accept poor value for an SP. Chris Sale at 34 signed a 2 year 38 million contract with the Braves with his injury history so teams will pay when it comes to SP and getting a 28 year old with 2 years left on his contract as our former governor said is "Golden"

1959 team RIPs
I was born in late August 1959, and those damn sirens woke me up from a peaceful nap!

Grifol speaks ...
The quote below speaks directly to JR as a person and an owner. Leland knew JR well, which is why he put him off and signed with Detroit who had an owner willing to spend money on the right players. Leyland wanted no part of the Jerry show. “We had a reunion of the 1983 team in 2003, and I asked him about coming back, and he said he wasn’t going to come back [to managing],” Reinsdorf said. “And a couple of years later [in 2006], he comes back in our division [with Detroit]. I called him, with a couple of expletives. He came back, and he did great.”

White Sox Finalists for Fedde
He must be related to Ohtani, JR's actually gonna try for Ohtani hoping that by signing his relatives he'll take the Sox low-ball offer just like Machado....wait I forgot Machado took the $$$

White Sox Finalists for Fedde
Beat me to it, I didn't read your post until I posted mine.

White Sox Finalists for Fedde
If he was smart he would take the Mets offer, why would anyone choose the Sox if money was similar. Certainly not to join an organization run by JR, a rookie GM, and Pedro.

DeJong to Sox
But, I read in the paper today that the Sox lost money in 2023....ya right! This team is a disaster, and I'm not sticking around to watch it.

Benetti to Tigers
I hate to generalize, especially to put a person into a group because not everyone is the same, however aren't all Golden Domers arrogant to some extent.
-
Benetti to Tigers
He was under contract, he did not leave the Sox for more money. The Sox chose to let him go and his talent brought more money on the open market. Nowhere have I read or heard that Jason demanded more money. Get a clue.
-
Benetti to Tigers
Hilarious, how people jump to conclusions and don't actually read the article or who it's written by but are quick to bring down the hatchet.
-
Benetti to Tigers
Disagree, Jason wanted to be a White Sox announcer and money had nothing to do with it because he was already under contract. It was the Sox who let him out of his contract, they could have held him to it if they really wanted him to announce games this year. Brooks is and ass for saying that regardless of how he may have intended the comment to sound. It sounds bad, and someone on his level of management should refrain from making a comment that could be perceived as ignorant.
-
Bummer to ATL
Bummer has talent no doubt and the Braves will most likely help him figure it out like no pitching coach from the Sox could. It's just that IMO Bummer can't handle pressure and he'll face a lot more of that from the rabid Braves fan base who won't tolerate his meltdowns.

Sorry Pale Sox for the oversight.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Pale Sox is too worried about the economy to notice. This is a baseball discussion site, and not a place to complain about the cost of groceries or the economy.

Pony up!
Is this a prelude to Eloy getting traded? The Sox way......Jerry to Brooks " lets get rid of his jerseys before we trade him since no one will buy them afterwards"
