QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/07/13/co...t.ap/index.html GOLDEN, Colorado (AP) -- Beer company executive, chief commercial pitcher and former Senate candidate Pete Coors confirmed Thursday he was cited in May for driving under the influence of alcohol after leaving a friend's wedding celebration. "I made a mistake," Coors said in a prepared statement. "I should have planned ahead for a ride. For years, I've advocated the responsible use of our company's products. That's still my message, and our company's message, and it's the right message. "I am sorry that I didn't follow it myself." The citation, first reported by The Denver Post, happened in Golden, the longtime hometown of the Adolph Coors Co. just west of Denver. The company has since become the Molson Coors Brewing Co. after a 2005 merger with the Canadian brewer. Coors was driving a 2004 Jaguar when he was pulled over by a Colorado State Patrol trooper just before midnight May 29, according to officials in the Jefferson County District Court clerk's office. He was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and cited for failing to obey a traffic control device. Coors rolled through a stop sign a block from his home and was stopped by the officer in his driveway, company spokeswoman Kabira Hatland said. She said his blood-alcohol content following a breath test was 0.088, above the legal limit of 0.08. Coors is driving with a 60-day provisional license, Hatland said. A hearing before motor vehicles department officials is scheduled for Friday. Coors, 59, also faces a July 20 arraignment. Coors took over as president of his family's company in 1987 and in 2000 was named chief executive of the brewer, which has 8,500 employees and rang up $4 billion in sales in 2003. Coors, a tall, silver-haired figure familiar to many as the face of the Coors television ads, was a political novice in 2004 when he decided to seek the Senate seat being given up by Republican Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell. He won the Republican primary but was defeated in the 2004 general election by Democrat Ken Salazar. If it was .088 why was he arrested?

QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) Whites still have a definite socioeconomic advantage... its not as entranched as it once was... but its still there. It takes more then a few supreme court rulings and legislative band aids to erase the damage done by hundreds of years of slavery. Right on....Reparations now!!

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) Hold on. Everyone take a step back and ask yourself, "Do I really care?" Honestly, the answer should be a resounding "no." How much different would your life, or anything, be if they had won? Not at all. A couple things. First, I don't think Gload was even on the postseason roster. Second, it wasn't a walkoff because it was on the road. And lastly, it was Blum. you said "a couple things" then you went and listed three. If you're gonna correct someone shouldn't you try to be accurate yourself?

Poppy's 2nd Half Predictions....

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) If a guy doesn't prove himself, he shouldn't be talked about. Tyler Lumsden has a pretty good arm down in the Sox minor league system, but I'm not ready to proclaim him as the next Steve Carlton, largely because he has not proven himself. The reason I am saying that Liriano is better is because he has proven himself to me. I have seen him pitch quite often, and the guy is truly, flat out, amazing. I have seen Santana pitch quite often too, but Liriano just looks better to me. Better stuff, not quite the control of Santana, but he is full of confidence, and he has the composure of a veteran pitcher. I've never seen a player period come out of the minors and be more MLB ready than Liriano is. He is a freak. So yes, it makes sense Lets see his confidence after the Sox get through with him. You goin down biatch!!!!!! -

I'm finally off of the Podsednik bandwagon (long)

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) Hey guys, long-time lurker, first-time poster. I think most of us realized in the first half of last year that Scottie was not the defensive player that was advertised prior to joining us (to think we debated moving Aaron to left and putting him in center), and he has been even worse the first half this year defensively. To my eyes, however, it appears that ever since Ozzie's comments, and Scott's own description of his play ("horses***") in the field, he has been improved. He seems to be hustling a little more, going back on balls better, taking better routes to line drives, and even making better throws into second base. He'll never be mistaken for Torii Hunter in the field, but I feel that he has made a conscious effort to improve and indeed has. In terms of his offense, he seems as though he may have lost a step in the offseason, which may be natural due to his age. However, I think he is hitting the ball every bit as hard if not harder this year than last, it's just that he isn't getting the bunt hits and other infield hits that he did so well with last year. I can only remember a few off the top of my head this season, whereas last year he had several (I believe he may have led the league?). If you factor in his inability or unwillingness to get the infield hits, I think it is extremely clear why is average is down from last season. Finally, while I think it helps out other hitters (and is indeed part of his role as a leadoff hitter), I don't necessarily believe that seeing so many pitches helps him out. He often is left hitting with two strikes, whicht takes away from his game slightly because the threat of the bunt no longer exists. I think he is a better hitter when he is aggressive at the plate and he can keep defenses off-balance. Perhaps he could be slightly more aggressive when he is not the first hitter to see a pitcher, since the hitters behind him don't necessarily need him to see more pitches at that point. Welcome and to a great first post. -

QUOTE(Damen @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) I think you're misreading the criticism here. I think most everyone here is excited about the first half, and what this team has accomplished. But there's a major difference between expecting the most expensive rotation in baseball not have 4 of 5 pitchers over 4.00 and 3 of 5 at or above 5.00, and expecting sub 2 era's. As for the .400 BA's, has anyone here said that? If you can't make your point without strawmen, then you don't have a point. strawmen seems to be the word of the fricken month around here....I have a point...I made it...57-31 deserves an A+. In the last 5 years 4 teams have had 57 wins or better by the half. The Braves in 03. The Tigers this year and the Sox last year and this year. So out of 150 chances, 57 wins has happened 4 times. Less than 3%!!! Id say that record deserves an A+, no matter how they got it.
-
A+++ .648 winning %. I mean there are always things to nitpick about, but jesus christ, that's baseball. If you hit the ball 35% of the time you're considered a dam good hitter. It's a sport of acceptable failures. The only people that have trouble seeing that are the fans. They expect sub 2 era's and .400 BA's, hell some expect even more. The Sox have the second best record in all of baseball and the one team ahead of them they've gone 5-1 against. The Sox are the defending World Champs and every team is gunning for them. They are not winning by luck. There may be some players that have lower grades than I would have liked, but this team gets a big f***in A+ from me!!! I never expected to keep up with the magical pace of last year, but we're right there. I gave them an A+ at the midway point last year and 2 games off that pace isn't going to change my grade now.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) ^^^^^^^^ Kalapse is spot on here. I would like to see a few moves happen. BA is your starting CF. The platoon is over. If anyone needs a platoon, its Mr. Playboy in LF who is taking his bad baseball onto the field, dropping balls, poor reads and poor throws. Trade for Luis Matos. He would require nothing from prospects in our org. He is right handed, plays decent defense and can be another OF to plug in late in games in LF or when BA needs a day off. We need another right handed bat off of the bench. And if you ask who goes from our team. The guy who forgot to tag up on third on Sunday who provides nothing to this team. Someone will want Ross Gload, its just not us. Put Bmac into the rotation, and then ship off Vazquez for something. He still has value in the majors due to his stuff. I know Omar Minaya is in love with him as an arm, and probably has something we can use. Trade for another arm in the bullpen. I'd just assume to not ship off our lead off man. my bad, you didn't suggest ship off pods.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) I had it going on my laptop but was so wrapped up with the tv I forgot what it had said. More than likely "delay on field". I wonder what it said when the flub fans threw trash all over the field. I was too wrapped up at that time telling all the kids I saw at Wrigley "see that, that's how NOT to act at a baseball game" -
The only AL team Lester has faced is Texas and he lasted 4 1/3 with 5 hits 3 runs and 4 walks. Beating up on the NL doesn't rank you as top dog in my book. Let's see what he can do against a top 10 hitting team.

Official Game Thread 7/7 - Sawx vs Sox 7:35
Controlled Chaos replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) No kidding. ANYTHING to erase his last start... that was brutal. I think beating up on the Sawx could give us some nice momentum going into the ASB. Does anybody remember what our regular season record was against them last year? I seem to recall splitting with them. We took 3 of 7. We split the four game set at the cell....then lost the first two at Fenway before winning the makeup game behind a stellar outing from BMac!! 7IP 0runs 3hits 7K's 1BB -
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 07:38 AM) No way, check out their stats with RISP: Thome (65 ABs, 9 HR, 46 RBI, .385 BA, .505 OBP, .846 SLG, 1.352 OPS) Ortiz (94 ABs, 7 HR, 49 RBI, .277 BA, .405 OBP, .532 SLG, .937 OPS) Ortiz has had 29 more ABs with runners in scoring position, and he gets a lot more SportsCenter coverage for every single hit. VORP Thome 39.1 > Ortiz 31.2 Great Job!!

Mark is ready to avenge last week. He needs to keep Manny in check, he's 8-for-18 lifetime against Mark, with three home runs and eight RBIs. It's also time to show this rookie Lester the loss column. Let's give him a World Championship welcome...I'd say about 8 or 9 runs is pretty hospitable. Let's take em down boyz!! Tonight the streets run red with red sawx blood!!! -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) LMAO.. Jim had always said he could hit a fastball... "how hard can it be...? " Famous last words. Twice he's been pitched MLB pitching and both times he's been humbled. But he can drive a golf ball 300 yards, chip in from a bunker, and make a 40 foot putt. pfft....I did all that Tuesday at Willow Crest, 5 pars and a bird and still shot a 95...try to have him top that!!!!!!! It ain't easy to be that inconsistent!! As far as major league pitching...never tried, but I would love to be humbled some day.
