  1. From today's column: Vacation?!?! I don't watch the show, but I'm pretty sure you were on Around the Horn during your vacation. We all know you were suspended Jay, you don't have to cover it up by saying you were on vacation instead of covering the HUGE Cubs-Red Sox series. You know he had a column in the can about Curses all cued up for friday. That we didn't see it tells us all we need to know.
  2. Phil you should have gone to Detroit. Probably won't make the playoffs again next year out there in LA LA land.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Seriously, I've always wondered why some of the shows on that network (notably Sesame Street) can't raise enough money to pay for itself solely by selling merchandise. Some of their other programs are worth a little bit of public funds because they're educational, but Sesame Street is such a nationwide icon that it should be able to fund itself. I imagine that Sesame Street probably does fund itself, or at least come close. The real black holes are the jewels of PBS. Frontline, Now, etc; those shows take months of reasearch and travel to produce 1 single episode. Not so coincidently these are the same shows that are critical of the bush administration.
  4. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 12:51 AM) Gene We can still play Uribe against lefty pitchers. And hell we can play Uribe at 3B on days when Omar is playing too. Read the stats I posted again. Omar against righties: 0.301 Omar against lefties: 0.197 Uribe against lefties: 0.357 Uribe against righties: Again, how much can I be more clearer???? You platoon as per match up in playoffs to get >0.300 production out of the SS position. If Clement or Schilling is pitching, Omar starts. If Santana is pitching, Uribe starts. That's all well and good, but how about finding somebody on the block... If you're talking SF, they've got to be prospects. Sabean likes old guys he's not getting rid of any of them.
  5. I'm not jumping ship on Uribe as he sits @ .23something. With frank in his ear every day, he's going to hit .275 for the rest of the season, and actually walk some. He's about to become very valuable to this team. Vizquel needs a rocking chair for the next three years.
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) Que? Rum bottle, this is Mrs. Sosa. I believe you've met.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) I disagree, we have enough one dimensional home run hitters on this team. We need a line drive hitter from the right side. Someone who can put the ball in play. Enough of seeing men on late in the game and strikeout after strikeout. Put the ball in play. Timo puts the ball in play. He still sucks. The player you described was Rowand/Gload. They're not really HR hitters, but they hit the ball hard. I think we're asking for the same thing, just wording it differently. I'm not jacked at all about Crede. I think Juan is the one to be excited about. He was taking all sorts of pitches over the weekend that he would have flailed away at in the absence of Frank Thomas. But with the Big Hurt in his ear after every AB, he's taking first pitch almost every time now. He also went oppo twice today. He's about to go on a tear.
  8. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:21 PM) Has he overcome his spousal abuse stigma yet? I juss apala geye
  9. I really like Lugo, but I don't think we're looking at him at all. I don't think our bench is that bad. Sure timo sucks. Willie's only good for his defense and eye. Ozuna has no power. Widger, I don't know how you can complain about him. He's a back-up catcher who's hitting better than most regulars. The glaring weakness is a righty power bat. (I say that becuase I consider Carl to be part of the bench, and Frank part of the line-up) That won't be something to worry about come playoff time. Timo will be gone. Brian Anderson will be on the roster. (assuming he's not in another city at that point)
  10. There wasn't a decent baseball game on at all tonight CSN 9-1 WCIU (which makes the game bad enough as it is) 8-1 ESPN 7-0 CRAP! All of it.
  11. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) whoops. It looks like the opposite of what everyone thought was going to happen. Not everyone
  12. Yeah it was just bad luck that Timo gave away as many bases as he gained... Negative turning a single into a triple, - 2 bases Positive a single, getting intentionally walked. That was more an indictment of Joe crede than anything. +2 bases.
  13. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) he has the mentallity to be in the role, he sort of reminds me of ryan, both of them like to throw hard and it works well for both, i think politte would do well as a closer, like everyone else Apparently I didn't type loud enough.... Regardless of what you think. He was a failed closer in Toronto. And upon coming to the Sox last season, said that he didn't have what it takes in the 9th. He doesn't want to want the ball in the ninth. We end up getting angry Cliff in those situations.
  14. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) don't know who's more pathetic, jackson or the freaks outside the courthouse... http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2672935?s...ite=6721&htv=12 Amazingly it's the freaks outside.
  15. OmG I'm so surprised.... Waste of bandwidth.
  16. Listen to Mac, Jurko, and Harry instead... Mac doesn't like Timo Perez.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) If Cliff keeps this up... Does he have what it takes to start closing games? Toronto doesn't think so.... There was an article last seaosn where Cliff said that the 9th is a different animal, and he didn't have it.
  18. Lovely Is The Feelin' Now Fever, Temperatures Risin' Now Power (Ah Power) Is The Force The Vow That Makes It Happen It Asks No Questions Why (Ooh) So Get Closer (Closer Now) To My Body Now Just Love Me 'Til You Don't Know How (Ooh) Keep On With The Force Don't Stop Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough /yes, I did that on purpose.
  19. QUOTE(winodj @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) It has been promoted to bathroom reading at the moment, with "People's History of the United States" being my main read right now. Breezed through "Shopgirl" over the weekend. Charming story from Steve Martin. He has this knack of really capturing L.A. loneliness. I really liked the book. For an entertaining experience, read the paperback version of Shopgirl in a well trafficked area. You'll get plenty of stares.
  20. I think I need to mention how much I loved this draft pick.
  21. Actually Carlos was punchless in his 28 game streak. Juan Uribe had more extra base hits than he did over the same stretch of time.
  22. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) They need a guy that is a home run threat off the bench from the right side. Yeah if only there was a HOFer on the bench with 438 dingers tonight, we might have won.
