  1. I know you don't want me to use more logic, but think about this one for a second... The Twins are starting a middle infield tonight of Juan Castro and Brent Abernathy. Could you imagine the Sox waiving Willie, then the f***ing Twins picking him up to platoon with little Nicky Putno when he comes off the DL? Willie would be a force if he learned to play the turf... Look what it did for Christian F'n Guzman. I know it's a small sample size, but Willie's batted .313 on the turf on his career. I would think that he would be able to post a Orlando Hudson type line(minus the power), with similar defense up there. /I just puked in my mouth a little.
  2. Well of the guys who are out of options (I think) and are candidates to be waived, Here's my completely subjective opinion on their likelihood of passing through waivers. Timo - 90% Gload - 40% Ozuna - 35% -- Though I really don't have a good guage on him because any team could have had him prior to the season Willie - 5% -- Almost every team in baseball would find a spot on the roster for him. Vizcaino - 25% -- He's probably not as bad as we think, and lots of teams are looking for bullpen help including us.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) Well Bruuuce Levine was on MJH and Jurko said oh well Timo will be send down when Gload comes off. Bruuuce stated that he is out of options and you will lose him. A comment to the effect of "HE GAWN" was sounded by Jurko, then Bruuce said well Ozzie believes that Timo is very important to this team and wouldnt want to risk him to waivers. :uhoh Sounds like Timo is going to stay and Willie or Pabo will be gone. Thanks Ozzie. You are using the wrong head to think again. Ozzie is wrong... No team even gave Chris singleton a look after he got Waived recently... He's making half of what Timo did, and producing the same (minimally) if not better. (actually looking for verification on that, Singleton was outrighted. I think that's a different process. Sigleton opted for Free Agency after being outrighted, but will still draw a full salary from TB because he wasn't dropped in the first 45 days of the season) Timo has an OPS+ of 74 and 58 the last two years, and a career mark of 81. His best days are behind him (Am I the only one who thinks he may have a forged B-day too?) Singleton, for comparisons sake, has an OPS+ of 87 and 75 the last two years, and a career mark of 88+. His best days are behind him too. No team wanted a 32 year old 5th OFer who pretty much sucks for $550K, why would a team want a 30(?) year old 5th OFer who pretty much sucks for $1M?
  4. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) I've heard it said many times that the generation coming up now will be the first in American(World?) history to be worse off than the one preceeding it. I believe things like this are contributing to that trend. Some of our greatest advancements lead directly to this... Calculators as a crutch. -- Honestly there is so little to no need for calculators in a school environment. The object is to learn, not to punch in some numbers in a keypad and regurgitate what it tells you. How many times have you been to a store and some idiot store clerk cant figure out how to make change because you tossed in a few pennies? Calculators can be a great resource, but too often they are relied on for even the most basic of calculations.. And when you say "But, I'm bad at math" Isn't one of the main reasons because you never bothered to learn and just punched away at your calculator keypad? The Internet -- Talk about a great resource. My High School first got widely connected to the Internet my in my senior year. It should come as no surprise that I completely plaigurised my 12 page research paper that we were all required to do that year. Back in the day, it wasn't even thought of to combat against stuff like that. SoxFan was asking for help for one of his classes just yesterday. What did kids do before the Internet? I don't even remember.
  5. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Yes! I was thinking Karma Bums--but I knew it was wrong. You're wicked well read. You're spending too much time on the east coast Soxy. Can I offer you a pop to help return your normal midwestern drawl?
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) You can tell right away what kind of night its going to be for Cotts. If he has some control he's very effective. If not, they should yank him after 2 pitches. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  7. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) Well, here you go guys: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Don't want to toot my own horn--wait yes I do. Frank was not 100%, and now its unlikely he'll see any action other than pinch hitting for awile. Great. Yeah great you toot your own horn for saying that frank was brought back too early AFTER he got reinjured. That's some accomplishment. Mom should be proud. Frank's hip flexor changes nothing. He would have only been used as a pinch hitter in the National League parks anyway. He wasn't going to be playing 1B. This is such a non-issue. Hey at least he got Kevin Walker off the roster.
  8. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) Holy crap, those were similar to my rules. I guess I'm the next big league star, right? I know I forgot to eat lunch today. That's why I'm not a big leaguer
  9. Kurkjian was full of fluff today... ESPN's required weekly Derek Jeter article...http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor..._tim&id=2073780 During the last 20 games as the Yankees have charged back to respectability, Jeter had batted .266/.326/.418. Meanwhile ARod has gone .350/.547/.700 over that same span. But if it wasn't for Jeter's leadership the Yankees would be nowhere...:rolly My favorite quote was this one... No s*** Tim, you're to busy writing about how his s*** doesn't stink to generate any kind of controversy. In other words, Jeter is slumping a little lately. The Yankees have lost 4 in a row. ARod is tearing the cover off the ball, so we better write yet another article about all of Jeter's intangables so he doesn't take any heat for the losing streak. You want to creat come controversy tim, mention that Jeter has just 1 hit in the Yankees 4 losses to the Red Sox and Royals.
  10. maybe I fast replied... yep, I think that was it, because I just closed it, and I think this is going to get through. The MAN isn't holding me down anymore.
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) I know you're an admin and all, but was this really necessary? I'm not laughing. EDIT: Lock it back up. It wasn't locked to begin with. I just clicked reply. that's not an option even for us lowly mods if you select poll only.
  12. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) I didn't realize the season was only 53 games long. I don't think record is indicative of the best and worst teams yet. Simply put, the last 20 games the Sox have been playing like crap. and by "crap" you mean taking 2 of 3 from the Cubs, right?
  13. From a scouting report on Dukes : That guy's a winner: Arrested 3 times in 13 months
  14. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:15 AM) What really sucks is that Ozzie did not even bother to pinch hit Paulie in the later part of the game I mean, why was WIllie even taking a bat in his hand as the tying run instead of Paulie...yeah Willie walked but still.... This post is so confusing We were down 4 runs, Willie went up there, he was patient. He took a fastball right down the middle 3-1 because it's not really worth swinging at it and risking an out. Had Willie, or in this case Pauly as your sugesting, hit a HR, we still would have been down by a run. He did the right thing and looked to bring the tying run to the plate by any means necessary.
  15. Cotts is one of Ozzie's boys too. Plus there's no way I can picture Ozzie going with only one left in the pen.
  16. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) Obviously, holding the best record in baseball far exceeds any notion of selecting a great player in the amateur draft. My question is if you look over our record the last several years, we've lost the division handily. Most notably in 2002. Did it matter to anyone whether or not our club finished over .500, 15 game behind the Twins? And be honest. Moral victories (finishing in second) mean very little, IMO. I'd rather win, let me make that fact clear. And, no, I'm sure Kansas City fans are not happy because of their position in the draft. Looking back in a few years, however, if the next Randy Johnson is drafted by the Royals and they're in contention, their fans won't care too much about these dreadful years. So here's the conundrum. The Sox need to compete to fill the ballpark, a terrible season would be Millions in lost revenue, that would show up the following season in the form of a lower payroll, which would result in a team much more likely to finish with a piss poor record, which would gain you multiple years of great draft picks, but... No Fans. You think the attendence is poor now, just wait for back to back to back 90 loss seasons.
  17. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) I could care less about the cost. I don't beleive highly in our minor league system, I do not watch a game today to think about two years from now. I watch to win this year. Thats all. next year will come . By the way our minor league system sucks. 1 out of twenty will make it. thats it. Trade the others if it means the playoffs. Sorry if you disagree. they are ALL unproven. This is why KW trades them. He knows they won;t make it it big. most teams would kill for 1 in 20. Baseball is a crapshoot.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) Can someone get a record of the games we have lead, before it's gone to the pen. I know it's been bad, but it hasn't been as monumental as say Cleveland's bullpen last season. even though we've blown some leads, (3 blown saves in 3 days), that's distorted. The craptastic give-outs-away-and-make-every-game-close offense we have puts more pressure on the pen, i.e. smaller leads than almost any other in baseball. YOu can't expect to get 3 innings of shutout ball from your pen every night, and I think that's what a lot of us are expecting around here. Just because you lead 4-3 after 6 innings doesn't make it an automatic win. Here's the win expectancy with a 1-run lead in at the beginning of each inning. 6. 65% 7. 68% 8. 73% 9. 82% Now compare that with a 2-run lead. 6. 76% 7. 80% 8. 85% 9. 91% It's not so much the bullpen killing us, as the weak ass offense.
  19. Ah Neifi Fricken Perez had 4 hits... Dodger pitching was terrible tonight.
  20. QUOTE(professionalfan @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) Are you kidding me? You guys were all for this guy in spring training, then he gets called up and only gets to throw 4 times in a month, gives up no runs until tonight where only 1 ball was hit hard off of him, and you not only say that he sucks, but make it personal like he is a jerk? Give me a break! He did the best he could given the circumstances which sucked to begin with. I've never said a nice word about the guy. Not when we signed him. Not when he pitched well early in spring training. Not when he got shelled in Charlotte. Not when he somehow was able to get through 2.2 IP of friken scary baseball without giving up a run. Not evar.
  21. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) Hutzpah! I got it to work! Finally, here it is. I took a minute to make it pretty.... http://images.southsidesox.com/images/admin/MayStats.htm
  22. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) I've got them and can post them if someone can tell me how to post HTML in here It would be easiest if you saved the spreadsheet as an HTML file, and uploaded it here. Then it's just a clickable link, and it looks all pretty.
