Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Actually, Brentley's arguement is a Questionable Cause fallacy, not a straw man or red herrring, which are two seperate logical fallacies. Yeah I never paid attention in any of those classes. I figured I would combine two of them to make one super-fallacy

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) If you would've rather seen Politte and Marte even though they pitched consecutive days, raise your hand. I'm so sick of babying bullpen arms. If only we had the day off tomorrow.

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) Brently on ESPN just took more shots at Ozzie for his BP handling Specifically at not bringing in Hermy in game 1, which we almost lost thanks to that move, and now bringing him in for mop up hurting his 0.00 ERA MInd you, Brentley predicted Hermy would nto do well before he even pitched his first pitch (becoz it was not a save situation) In game 1 Brantley was flat out wrong... Bringing back Buehrle is a fine move. Bringing in Marte to face McPhereson was the right move too. After that you could make an argument that he should have gone to Hermanson, but Brantley's argument was erroneous. It sounded like a former closer who thinks that saves are automatic. That the other team isn't any good, like they're not a bunch of professional hitters or something. Brantley was just whining to hear himself talk. He thinks "closers" are only to be used to get the last three outs of a game that you're leading by 3 or fewer runs. That's just dumb, not effective use of your pen. You're limiting the effectiveness of your best reliever by not necessarily putting him in the highest leverege situations. Tonight, and I didn't hear, because I'm local, he probably liked bringing in walker because he had a 0.00 ERA. We all knew Walker was a bad move. He had a 0.00 ERA despite pitching like crap. The argument that Hermy wouldn't do as well because it wasn't a save situation is a red herring straw man piece of crap argument. How did he get guys out before he was the closer Jeff? I felt the same way, but I felt that Hermy was going to give up runs because he looked like crap recording the save in his last outing vs. the Angels, allowing towering outs to Molina and somebody else. Did K-Rod allow a run just so it felt like a save situation, Jeff? Brantley is boob.

GAME THREAD 6-1-2005 SOX VS HALOS
Quoting Hawk and DJ: DJ: "Nice play by an outfielder who's playing first base." Hawk: "Best thing about that, He's not gonig to turn two anyways" DJ: "He's playing out of position. He's got the one costly error, but he's making everything look easy out there" It's f***ing repulsive how much they slob this guys knob.

GAME THREAD 6-1-2005 SOX VS HALOS
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) There's no excuse to ever have to play Timo at 1b. You don't see Hawk and DJ blowing Timo now, do you? Hawk initially tried to blame it on Pierzynski, but on the replay he just couldn't.... I'll bet you he says something to the effect of "you've got to pick up your teammates and pitch over the error though.

When is G-LOAD coming back?
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) KW already publicly promised Ross a spot on the roster. He'll be up here soon enough. Only when frank goes back on the DL.

When is G-LOAD coming back?
I believe Ross Gload's days as a White Sox are over. Timo playing 1B, while Gload is torching AAA, tells you that much. :fyou OMIT
-
what would you like the lineup to be?
I would like to see Timo at 1B....

*Official* Eric Chavez Speculation/Dream Thread
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) If we traded for Chavez, Fields could move to 1st base and we could say goodbye to Paulsy. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) Paulsy is brutal. Konerko -- .223/.336/.462, 13HR Fields -- .213/.292/.320, 4 HR @ AA That seems like an upgrade...

Trade Ideas
They would be much happier with a WIllie for Polanco trade straight up. Though I don't know why we would want to do that.
-
Trade Ideas
No, and the reason is not the players, it's the money... Viz, Walk, and Timo would be about $3M in salary, compared to Polanco's $4.something. That's not much savings. If offered just one prospect from another team, that's got to look better to Philly than the package you proposed. On top of that, Philly is probably not looking to pick up extra players on the 40-man. Polanco for Viz, Walk, and Timo would mean they would have to clear two spots on their 40-man, putting two of their prospects in danger. That's not going to happen. They'd probably be looking for something in a need on their major league roster, and a decent prospect, i.e. one they don't need to put on the 40-man yet, or just one organizational top 10 prospect.

Cliff Politte for setup man
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 31, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) Ahh... was just this past off-season that people did not want politte's option picked up let alone be resigned to a new deal. I'm pretty sure I was in the boat. I'll readily admit that I thought Hermy was a weak signing too. Feels good to be wrong

Marte
Nothing. I know this is an old thread, and a few weeks ago we were asking what happened to Damaso's fastball. He threw the fastball tonight. And I thought he threw it well, He just gave up a few bloops. Had it not been for a few defensive miscues yesterday, this thread still would have gone unbumped.

Would anybody be interested in Mondesi
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 31, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) I'd rather have Timo Perez than Raul Mondesi........seriously....... OK guys, I know you're going to be shocked, but ...... I actually agree with this. Mondesi is clubhouse AIDS. He's worse than clubhouse cancer. Completely incurable.

Who is the better defensive shortstop?
This poll is beggin' for some Chicago Style rigging.

Jokers Wild
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) Methinks that you should start working on Fields Fan Club because Crede's Crew is an endangered species. In Crede's age 22 season, he was at AA Birmingham, posting a .306/.375/.490 line with 21 HR and 94 RBIs in 500 ABs... In Fields age 22 season, he is posting a .213/.292/.320 line at AA Birmingham, on pace to strike out about 150 times. Fields has Joe Borchard written all over him.

Outside the Lines
QUOTE(redandwhite @ May 31, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) Ozzie Guillen has cost the White Sox many games this season, and almost has cost this team every game this season. It makes you wonder why anyone in there right mind would want to keep a bad manager around through 2009. Many?

QUOTE(knightni @ May 31, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) It's "Fix Grammar and Spelling" night here at Soxtalk! I haven't even read any other threads... That one just made me laugh. I hope to God that it was typed by someone under the age of 13.

5/29 Games
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 30, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) I would surely take an Adam Dunn-lite type player out of Young... I don't think you'll get that kind of power, but Young brings other tools to the table.

5/29 Games
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 30, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Can anyone comment, as far as using OPS to judge a prospect? I like that Young's OPS is over .800, in a pitchers park, and he's walking -- but he's still striking out a whole lot. Should that worry me? I think the strikeouts delay him about a year (maybe half a season) longer than a guy who posts similar numbers, with less strikeouts. Reason being, big league pitchers will be more able to exploit the holes in his swing. It's going to take him a little longer, but that guy has great potential.
