  1. I don't know what the shirts are that are being thrown into the stands, but there is a chance, albeit a small one they are the "Sox Pride" shirts... Only other way to get one is shell out the 25 bones at a souvenir stand at the park.
  2. http://www.tucsonsidewinders.com/index.php...cle&news_id=573 /insert 'he's still playing' comment here
  3. Hideki Matsui--- Edit -- Guess I was wrong.. I thought it was Matsui.
  4. That would be 28.2 IP with 1 ER = 0.31ERA
  5. Diaz looked really solid out there. He established the Curveball in the first couple of innings. He was able to keep it low but in the zone the first three innings. He nibbled both corners with the fastball, and changed speeds well with the change-up. Before he wasn't keeping his pitches down, and in todays game after the 3rd they got up a little bit. Twice to Patterson (double & HR). The key pitch though was his change. His last two outings it was up and over the heart of the plate. Today it was consistenly down, and on the corners.
  6. I've had that feeling for awhile. Today was actually the first where I was a little bit worried. Shingo didn't look as sharp in his last outing vs. Cleveland. I had a bad feeling Shingo would throw sammy a firt pitch fastball, and I was sure it would be gone. Thankfully, he stayed away from the first pitch heat, throwing a breaking ball for a strike. Stepping up in front of that many people in a playoff-type atmosphere gives me even more confidence in Shingo.
  7. Livan's a good idea, but there's no way he's available. when he signed a three year deal that starts next season in April he took his name off the market. The Major league operated team would not have signed him @ 8MIL,8MIL, &7MIL over the next three years for him to me moved. They want him as the centerpiece of the new franchinse in NOrther Virgina, Portland, Whereever.
  8. Your logic is ass backwards... How often do you hear about a hitter being "protected" by the batter behind him? Do you think the guy who bats in front of Barry sees worse pitches because Barry is up next? Hell no. They don't wanna face Barry, so you see more pitches in the strike zone. Lower in the order, with less protection, it's easier to pitch around a batter. And Pitch around doesn't mean throw strikes. It means give the guy junk to hit because you're not worried about the guy behind him. Rowand see's far more curveballs in the dirt because he's hitting lower in the order(with the exception of the last few days) -- How often do you think a pitcher thinks to himself, "I've got Rowand, Crede, and Olivo due up this inning. I'm throwing straight Cheese" -- I'll guarentee unless that pitcher was Randy Johnson, Mark Prior, or Roger Clemens they didn't leave the inning unscathed.
  9. By your definition no pitcher could be considered "one of the best players in baseball" -- At best they pitch 1/5 of the teams innings. I guess they're worth 1/5 of a light-hitting-play-everyday-2nd baseman Click the links. Frank has a top 5 OPS over since last ASB. He has an OPS over 1.000 since last June. The players who are ahead of him all make significantly more. The only guys who compare in offensive production are Barry ($18MIL) Pujols (7MIL) Guerrero (11MIL) Helton (11.5MIL) Berkman (6.5MIL) Manny ($20MIL) Thome (12MIL) Of those guys with simillar numbers over the past year... Pujols and Berkman are the only ones who have the same production for thier salary. Pujols is locked into a Huge, long deal. And Berkman is in his walk year and will make Much more than frank next season. Would you rather have Delgado? @20MIL, but he plays the field. Frank will be the best valued player in baseball next season. Only guys who have not become arbitration eligible can provide a better 'bang for your buck' Frank is not going anywhere. That 'diminished skills' contract was one of the best things this organization has ever done.
  10. We're pretty thurough around here. We don't miss much http://www.soxtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=21008
  11. Another thing I've noticed. Everytime Hawk says "sinch'er up, and hunker down" the batter automatically is out... I was jumping for joy when Carlos was able to draw a walk after he said it today. I seriously can't remember the last time somebody got a hit after he said that.
  12. I guess I did. I knew what I meant. You should be able to read my mind
  13. Nope --- Take a look at the numbers. AB H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K AVG OBP SLG OPS HBP Aaron Rowand* 261 85 22 0 13 39 16 38 0.3260.3740.5590.933 4 Carlos Lee 558 173 36 1 23 96 40 72 0.3100.3620.5020.863 5 Give Rowand the AB's and he'll replicate the number that carlos puts up, Cheaper, with better defense.
  14. He collided with Valdez on a pop up the other day, Reed took his next AB, but went to the hospital afterwards. I don't think he's played since.
  15. I was gonna ask the same thing. I haven't been very active in keeping up lately. I know Reed was hurt after a collision with Valdez, and he didn't play in the next game... But I don't remember how long ago that was, or if I've seen him play since then.. /damn alshiemers.
  16. Clement is exactly the type of pitcher Garland is... He may not figure it all out until this team has given up on him. I'd love to see Jon locked up long term in the off-season though, so that we'll be the team he's with when he "gets it"
  17. Carlos over Rowand anyday of the week Rowand is younger, less expensive, superior defensively, and can easily replicate Carlos' offensive output. Rowand has a .950 OPS in his last 250 AB's.
  18. Only 3 of the 15 inherritted runners he's recieved this season have scored. He's saved 12 of those from crossing home. I'd say that he's a pretty "key" reliever already this season.
  19. Congratulations, you've just won the award for biggest reactionary one the board... Frank Thomas has been one of the best players in baseball over the last year. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/battin...&hand=a&pos=all http://sports.espn.go.com/mlbhist/stats/ba...pa=200&ageMin=0 Plus he's not making much. ($6 MIL) -- And that's only slated to increase by 2 or 4 MIL next season.... Quite possibly that was the most ridiculous statement I have ever read on this site.
  20. As am I. You'll all be sorry when you run this guy out of town.... He's 24. He'll be pitching in the Bigs for at least 10 more years.
