QUOTE(Dan @ May 21, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) In case you haven't noticed, he's on a 6 game hit streak, chief. Good, one more game and he can match the 7-game streak of the demoted Sweeney.

Cotts to AAA, according to Comcast Sportsnet
Gene Honda Civic replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 21, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) Well, half of the garbage exchanged in that deal is where it belongs now.....the ironic thing is the only arm of value in that deal is Vasquez, who is looking really good for us in AAA. It's pretty amazing how long Cotts and Aardsma pitched really well though, they each kept that fraud alive for a solid month. You do realize that for a span of 40+ innings from late August last year until early May of this season, you'd struggle to find a more effective reliever than Aardsma... But you know, he's garbage. -

QUOTE(knightni @ May 21, 2007 -> 06:23 PM) I don't think Fields is much better defensively at 3rd than Ozuna is. Plus he hits the ball less. I'm no Josh Fields fan, but from all the reports I've heard, there's no reason to believe that Pablo is better defensively or offensively than Fields. As for him "hitting the ball less," sure he'll make less contact than Ozuna, but he'll make fewer outs. -
Amazing Pods stats, Owens only answer?

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 21, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) The point is that we need a leadoff man with speed who can get on base and run wild. That's it. Bulls***. We need gap hitter who can post a well-above average OBP. Pods does neither of those things. Owens is walking for the first time in his career, and has something like 3 extra-base hits. -
Amazing Pods stats, Owens only answer?
Gene Honda Civic replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Stats like this are so useless. They're only used to misrepresent. Correlation does not necessarily equal causation. You could do the same thing with practically every starter. What's the Sox record when - Thome hits a HR? - Dye has an RBI? - Buehrle pitches 7+? - Joe Crede has an extra-base hit? - Jon Garland issues 1 walk or less? The Sox record would be significantly better in each of those cases as opposed the the games in which they don't meet that criteria. So what? In the rare case that Podsednik does anything useful, the Sox have been good. Great. What good is that to the current Sox? He's not likely to be useful ever again. Get someone who is. -
Open for Discussion: is the offense awake?
Gene Honda Civic replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Thome helps a ton, but no. We need JD and Pauly back to driving the ball in the gaps before the offense is repaired. While we're at it. Let's call up Fields. He can get on base (or not make outs, however you want to put it) at a better rate than anyone who we'd put at 3B or LF right now. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 20, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) Why did it take them until about the 8th guy in line to call up this Clippard kid (they being the Yanks)? He was the most impressive guy they have called up other than Hughes, he's quite young still and had a pretty good fastball and change and REALLY good breaking ball. And he did it in a tough spot against a tough lineup in a pressure game. Scouts don't like him because he doesn't light up the right numbers on their radar gun.

QUOTE(Brian @ May 20, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) Cortisone shots do not heal the injury, correct? So basically he is not helping himself. For his sake, I hope he gets his back fixed, whether he is with us much longer or not. They're steroidal, reducing inflammation. So in that sense it's probably the best thing you can do for a bulging disc. It doesn't "heal" the injury in that it's not a permanent fix, but it's certainly the best thing you can do in the short term for immediate results without rehab... /not a doctor.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 20, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) It could be looked back upon as Kenny's biggest mistake with us. I can't even imagine how much we would have got for him. The potential of losing out on his big payday if things don't go according to plan. It seemed to me that the White Sox were interested in talking long-term deal if he was willing to do the surgery. Crede's skittishness, an alternate rehab plan from Herm Schneider, and Scott Boras teamed up to squash the surgery option. Now it looks like both the Sox and Crede could lose out. Crede because he doesn't get big $, and the Sox because they don't get big return on their investment through a trade.

White Sox vs. Cubs, 5/20/07 (W)
Gene Honda Civic replied to MHizzle85's topic in 2007 Season in Review
QUOTE(fathom @ May 20, 2007 -> 01:43 PM) What about him? Getting no 2007 MLB ready talent for Garcia was the worst move KW made this whole offseason. Well he's the answer to your question. If Masset isn't starting today. It would be Gavin Floyd. If Masset was no longer in the pen, his replacement would be Gavin Floyd. That's why Masset is here. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 19, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) You know, I was about to say, "Cheat's right, you can't expect the bullpen to be lights out every single game with no laughers in between," but then I thought of the Minnesota Twins of the last few years and got pissed off. I'm not making excuses for the performances of the past two days, I'm just saying those performances been amplified because of the sheer number of close games the bullpen has pitched in. I'm pretty sure we lead the league in blown saves, and it's not because we have a terrible bullpen. At worst, I think you'd call them average. They've just been put in an inordinate number of high-pressure situations, which I understand is their job, but you can't expect them to be perfect. A little support would be nice. Yep, I just looked it up. After today, the Sox will be tied for the lead in blown saves, which is really just a way of saying games in which your bullpen has blown a lead of 3 or less. The Sox are second in the AL in save opportunities (games when the bullpen is called upon with a lead of 3 or less) though, which doesn't seem like something you'd expect from a .500 team. You could spin it and say they Sox bullpen has cost them ALL, or most, of those games, but you can't expect perfection. And when the offense ranks last in the AL in nearly every category except HR, they're the main culprit for putting the bullpen in those tight situations. I'll agree, the bullpen has been particularly spotty in 1-run games. I doubt you'd be able to find the splits on that to back up that feeling though.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 19, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) The starters have been going 6 or 7 innings almost automatically. In 8 of Jenks' 13 saves, he's entered the game with a 3 run lead. I think its a stretch to think the bullpen needs a breather. So when was the last time they were handed a 5-run lead? 5-run deficit? They're pitching in high leverage situations EVERY GAME!

QUOTE(maggliopipe @ May 19, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) Is this the same condition Marilyn Manson had? No, that's gonorrhea.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 19, 2007 -> 07:29 PM) The White Sox bullpen sucks. Not nearly as much as the offense. It's just amplified because they're called upon in a tight situation nearly every game because the offense can't score enough to make quality starts stand up easily. The only two victories that the bullpen wasn't called on with the Sox leading by 3 or less were the comlete games by Buehrle and Contreras. Everything else was You can't win games like that. You need a breather. And not just once every 6 weeks. You need a laugher probably once a week to really have a healthy bullpen. The offense just hasn't allowed the bullpen any low leverage innings this season.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 19, 2007 -> 06:00 AM) How would you feel about selecting Matt Latos? He is one year removed from high school (pitched for a community college; don't know immediately about the statistics), and possess a 94-98 mph fastball. I've discussed it before, as the concern with him is whether he'll accept the Padres offer as a DFE. Other problems relate to this supposed lack of maturity and competiveness, which have resulted in a drop in status. These are the type of decisions we'll have to grapple with. Recent article: EDIT: Found recent statistics: Broward Community College: 2.03 ERA 75.1IP, 102K, 58H, 17BB Latos plays for Broward? He's definitely on our radar then. That's the territory of the scout (I don't know his name) who brought us Gio, and most recently two of Latos' teammates.

Don't have time to read the other threads... but this needs to be said here. In the Sox meltdown inning, the three big hits, all by Cubs righthanders were line drives to right field. The Cubs got 2 triples and a grand slam out of them. The Sox have 2 triples and 1(maybe 2) grandslams on the season.

QUOTE(BearSox @ May 18, 2007 -> 12:45 PM) I'm not a big fan of the list. To me, it seems like you guys rushed it to get it out ASAP... I'll be interested to see yours when it's due out......

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 17, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) One of those all around feel good games. Jenks has 13 saves already, that's pretty nice. And Thornton has one..... 14 of our 20 wins have been "saved"... That's a high percentage thanks to our s***ty offense. Here's a list of our wins by more than 3 runs. 1. Buehlre's no-hitter 2. I'll get back to you... we're still waiting. 14 saves plus buehrle's no hitter and Contreras' comlpete game, means the other 4 wins which came by less than three either were of the walk-off variety (aj's literal walkoff) or bullpen manufactured close games (not in the good way) in wins pulled from the ashes of blown saves/holds.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 17, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) Who do the Cardinals have right now who could replace him? I hear Sidney Ponson is looking for work. And by "looking for work" I mean getting drunk on a beach looking for a judge to punch.
