Kass has had some other BITING columns this year too... like the one about the 2004 Cubs being a lot like the 1984 Sox.

Sheets or CC??
I read the thread over there at WSI, and I'll agree that Otis is somewhat reliable. (He has connections in the Boston front office somewhere) -- what I took from what he wrote was that they have inquired about sheets and CC. Doesn't mean they are going to get them. He seemed to think that Garcia would be ours, but Seattle wants to hear more offers, wait until there's more bidders. He said that our offer for Sheets was going to be hard to beat. -- So in summary, KW will either end up getting fleeced for sheets or CC, or make a nice deal to get Garcia(which is most likely)

Enough about lack of respect
[green]But we're the best team in baseball. We have no holes[/green] Centerfielder - Check? Rigt Fielder - Check? 5th Starter - Check? Bullpen - Check?

Jamie Burke
Yes, but I have to qualify that yes. Reed's wrists are still in question. Though he has hit some HR's lately. His average has dropped considerably. .325 in April. Take a look at what our outfield will be vs. LHP and RHP LHP LF - Lee CF - Willie/Timo RF - Rowand RHP LF - Lee CF - Willie RF - Gload Reed's likely position would be RF(a power position) vs. RHP, and a platoon in Center vs. LHP His .280 average at the AAA level, equates to Why would we want to start his clock running already, to just be a platoon guy who's batting 8th. -- Burke gives us some flexibility, and if Maggs does end up being gone for some time, I expect to see a healthy Borchard called up over reed.

I got the joke -- Well played Santo.

Another 5th starter candidate
Garcia will cost 2 to 3 prospects or more -- Helling will cost only his salary. /perspective.

Jamie Burke
Aboz, You know I'm on the Borchard train too, but Burke > Injured Borchard (who's not likely to get rugular playing time if he was here)

Rick Helling quits Twins organization
I was going to ask Rex about the situation, considerign he can't really "quit" he is under contract. I would assume the Twins wouldn't outright release him. --

Ordonez to DL; out up to 7 weeks
here's another one -- Carlos lee has a 19 game hitting streak, but hasn't homered over that stretch, or since April 27th -- he has only 6 Xtra base hits in that time. Juan Uribe has 8 Xtra Base hits in his last 9 games.

Ordonez to DL; out up to 7 weeks
Maybe earlier -- He only hit one HR in may.

Make Shingo the closer!
My feeling on Shingo is alot like my feelings about Foulke when he was here. His best pitch can be crushed by a patient hitter. The thing is that he knows how to use it and how to set it up. So he makes a lot of people look stupid. He will get beat on occasion, but not the same way that Koch does. Shingo will lose by the Long ball. He'll miss a location/not set a guy up properly, and blow a save with a 450ft. shot over the wall. That being said, he's going to strike out a lot of guys, and allow fewer of them to get on base, so even when he does serve up the long ball, it's not as damaging. Shingo>Koch - But he's not perfect. No one is, Not even Gagne(3 hr's already this year)

Another 5th starter candidate
Right now, Helling > Cotts Helling > Diaz Helling > Adkins Helling > Grilli Helling > Rauch Helling > Wright I'm not advocating the guy as our #1 starter, but he's a MAJOR LEAGUE pitcher, who knows how to get guys out, get out of jams, and keep his team in games. I wouldn't pull off a trade for anyone like him, but the fact is that we don't have to. He won't cost much. He just wants to pitch at the major league level. We want a major league 5th starter. What's not to get? The guy's not Cy Young, but knows how to pitch. Which is the main problem off many on our staff. Who knows, I may be wrong. But I, Like KW i think, like to leave the fight with no more bullets left. I'm gonna go down swinging.

Another 5th starter candidate
I'd say right now he has as good of a shot as any other pitcher in the sox organization... And that is the first day a 5th strter will be needed. Sure it's just some blind optimism on my part, but I think in the limitted role we have for him he would be a welcome addition. He was great out of the pen last year too. There are 5 starts we need a 5th starter for before the ASB. 4 before July 1 (when KW made his moves last year). 8 before the deadline. Helling can win 3 of those. that's the same as we won all last season from the 5 spot.

Jamie Burke
Yes - Borchard has been fighting injuries all year -- He hasn't played in at least the last 4 games. Unecessary 3rd catcher -- We probably would have won the game if we had burke today... How? you ask. 10th inning 1 out man on second -- Sandy aproaching the plate, sandy hits righties better than lefties. Miguell olivo has an ungodly high OPS vs. lefties this season, with more HR's vs. LHP than anyone else on the team. Ozzie is forced to keep him on the bench to guard against injuries, when he was clearly needed to hit in that sitiuation. The flexibility of ross gload and Burke make it such that Borchard or Reed is not needed up here. There's no reason to start JR's ML clock especially when he's been scuffling at AAA.

Another 5th starter candidate
No, I'll be there, I have my tickets --- Its SIU alumni day.
-
Ordonez to DL; out up to 7 weeks
If they had made this descision before the game today, Burke would hace been on the bench so that Ozzie could have batted Miguel instead of Sandy vs. Rhodes late in the game. Olivo is hitting almost .500 against LHP.

Another 5th starter candidate
That's a marvelous idea -- I'll be there June 12th to watch him pitch -- Get it done KW, I know you're reading.
-
Ordonez to DL; out up to 7 weeks
Because Reed batted about .250 in May in the bandbox that is Charlotte, against AAA pitching. There's no need to start the clock on a him already. -- Gload/rowand will see extended playing time now.

Buehrle named AL Pitcher for May
Congrats Mark He's been downright nails for over a month now... Keep it up.

Sox and Maggs close to extension!!
It's the marketing departments job to get the fans excited about coming out to the park. Hmmm, I wonder what they would be tring to attempt with misinformation. After 3 days of the NY media reporting maggs wouldn't sign an extension -- Which I said was total bulls*** -- The sox(your friend) finally decided to combat bulls*** with buls***. Sure some people may get excited, but those people believe everything they read or hear.
