Daisuke Matsuzaka signs
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) Funny thing occured in my Sociology class earlier this afternoon. When discussing Daisuke's bid with several classmates, some random Asian kid sitting behind us said the Arizona Diamondbacks won the bid. When asked how he knew, he replied the Japanese division of MLB.com had information concerning it. Now, I have yet to personally verify if -- or bother locating the link -- but that would be one hell of a wildcard victory. It would be even sweeter realizing all American league teams (esp. New York) were outbid. I saw/read the (google translated) link. It's bunk. It just said that the D'Backs were surprise bidders, which is the same thing that the AZ Republic stated today. There was another article that stated that the Lions were informed of who the highest bidder was, but gave no indication as to which team had won.

I thought Pam's reaction to Michael taking Dwight was the highlight of the episode. Oh good! You're taking Dwight.

I actually want Dave Roberts as our LF
QUOTE(joeynach @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 04:55 PM) You do realize that even for his age, 34 i think, his MLB service time is rather low. I think he broke in in 1999 which means hes played for 8 years in the league. Compare that to someone like Dye who is 32 but he will be going into his 11th year of service, he broke in in 1996. The points is hes older year but hes not as much as an aging veteran as you think, in reference to years played. So his first ever baseball game played was in '99. Games in the minor leagues are less taxing, right. It's not like they have to sleep on buses or anythign.

I wonder if he'll say the terrrrrists won, as he not so subtly implied at all of his stumps in the south the last two weeks.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) NIU lost an Iowa State style game tonight, now I know how Heads feels. Season over, since now our bowl chances died. I hate our stupid ass offense and offensive coaches. Did you go? or watch it on ESPN 2 There was an entire portion of the game that the announcers just talked about the rest of college football because they couldn't see the action on the field from the press box thanks to the fog.

MLB Trades that never happened
I was in Colorado when they traded Neifi. They were incensed. Them boys would have been upset if they traded the face of the franchise in Astacio.

Britney Spears files for divorce
QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) Did they have a prenup? beat me to the punch.. I'm too lazy to dig through all the crap that comes up on Google when you type "britney spears" into the search, but I seem to recall saying she was a dumb b**** for not having one, among other things.

November 7 Election Day Thread
QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) In light of impending exit polls. Do they actually tend to have a bias against Republican candidates or was that only the case in '04. I think you'll see exit polls heavily favor the Dems again this year, and most races end up closer (or reversed) than initially indicated. I just voted.. At my precinct you could vote in two "new" ways. One was connecting arrows with a line, and the other was touchscreen computer. The bluehairs were really confused. Stood in line for about 15 minutes, and took about 5 minutes to vote myself -- There were a number of people who were voting when I walked in, and those same people were still voting when I left.

2006 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 08:14 PM) Great, just watch, another of the guys we tried out in those dark 03-04 years as a starter will now come back and become a solid bullpen performer for someone else. At least it's not the Tigers this time. Well he couldn't really crack the Hiroshima Carp lineup for some reason the last two plus years. They also signed Tim Redding, and local boy TJ Nall.

Election Day.
I'll be glad when I can watch the local news again... I caught part of the local FOX affiliate this weekend, and hour long broadcast, and they said that 42 political ads had played during their broadcast and their was still about 10 minutes left.

Ted Haggard
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) This is the edited version of what I wanted to really say. The view must be beautiful from up there. Sincerely, The human race. Please, Haggard preached hatred in the name of the Lord to thousands of people. Hell yeah, I'm laughing when his hypocritical ass fell from grace. Around here, I preach pacifism and acceptance to tens of avatars. You can be the first one to laugh at my fall from grace when I start war mongering with an army of queers as my frontline. Deal?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) To be fair, Minnesota was favored by 6. However, this is ugly. We can't fall back too much more. How the hell was a team winless in the big ten favored? If I knew that, I would have made a play on Indy (glad I didn't now)

After about a quarter of play, Big Ten scoreboard looks messed up right now. Wisconsin is the only favorite ahead, and that's just 3-0... Michigan losin to Ball St. 9-7 Iowa losing to NW 7-0 (should be more) (what else is new) Indiana getting rolled by Minnesota 21-0

When I read this at lunch, I almost spit my taquitoes all over my computer. I was actually disappointed that there wasn't a thread full of :lol:s in the buster. Not that he represents one political party or the other, but the "i bought meth, but threw it out" and "it was only a massage" (once a month for 3 years) excuses make John Kerry's "it was a botched joke" look plausible.

Crede doesn't get the gold glove.
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) Wasn't Lopez considered to be a pretty good second base man? The Red Sox had a great defensive infield, but didn't get a single gold glove. They had a defense that didn't make errors, which we all know isn't the best measure of defense. They were better on the corners than they were up the middle.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 05:48 PM) Grudz had a pretty darn good year. I don't know if he was the very best but he's pretty damn solid. I got no problem with that. Yeah, Grudz was pretty good, and thanks to Orlando Hudson leaving the AL, there was no standout 2Bs left. In the beginning of the year, I commented that the defense at 2B in the AL is terrible compared to what it was just a few years ago.

Study hard, or you will be dumb,
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) members of the armed services are no less educated than the average american. that is a fact. I've always held the belief that Americans, on the whole, are pretty damn stupid. That study linked above is skewing the facts pretty heavily. 90% of officers have college degrees? wow, that would be like saying 90% of managers at Taco Bell have degrees. It's pretty much a requirement for the job.
