QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 12:09 AM) What I remember from this particular system is last year, AFTER the division was clinched, their playoff projections putting us at a 97% of winning the division. This wasn't a mistake either. What made it funnier is someone, can't recall the exact authors name, said (paraphrasing) "just because the White Sox have supposedly clinched doesn't mean it's correct." It was ridiculous, lol. The system was flawed in that the Sox had a 3 game lead over CLE with 3 to play, so it wouldn't declare the Sox AL Central champions. The Sox were AL Central champs at that moment because, even if they lost 3 straight Cleveland would only tie, and there was a series going on to decide the AL East. If NY or BOS won 3 to keep pace with CLE the other would have to lose and remove them from the wild card. And the Sox would be declared AL Central champs based on their H-2-H record with CLE. With three games left to play, there was a 3% chance that the Sox would have been in a 3-way tie, that's all it was saying, since it's not programed include tie-breakers.

I think Phillips is positioned well. Speaking of.... Two days into Olympic Qualifying, the USA team is 2-0 with both wins being recorded by Charlotte Knights, Heath Phillips (6IP, 1R vs. CAN) and Jeff Farnsworth (perfect 10th vs. BRA)

McCarthy must be inserted into the rotation...
Gene Honda Civic replied to BearSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) McCarthy's 5 innings of work this evening has made an impression upon me. I say with more certaintly now than previous posts he's been throwing side sessions. Would it make sense for McCarthy not to pitch for nearly a week, then 2 innings August 22, then 5+innings (63 pitches) four days later? If this is mere coincidence brought on by Contreras' ineffectiveness, it's an indictment on management for pushing Brandon following supposed "shoulder tightness." You're in luck, Flash A commenter at my site says that's exactly what he has been doing, with him headed to the rotation September 1. The reason for the wait appears to be waiting for rosters to expand so they could add an arm or two to the pen, which seems a bit odd to me. Almost as if the Sox intend to go with a 6-man rotation. I still can't see Ozzie removing anyone from the rotation without a DL trip, and I think the only candidate for that, based on recent performance and Ozzie's post-game quotes is Contreras. -
QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) You forgot the most important information. Brian Anderson was 23 years old in Charlotte last season. Ryan Sweeney is 21 years old in Charlotte this season. That was implied.
-
Brian Anderson got 448 ABs in Charlotte last season. He hit .295 with 24 doubles, 3 triples and 16 HRs. He had a K/BB ratio of 115/44. Ryan Sweeney has 437 ABs in Charlotte this season. He hitting .295 with 24 doubles, 3 triples and 13 HRs. He has a K/BB ratio of 73/35.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) I talked with someone who saw Sweeney play last night, and even though he said both of his doubles should have been errors, he did say that Sweeney should definitely be playing instead of Pods right now. He said Sweeney made a great running catch on a tough play in the outfield. His reviews of Fields weren't nearly as good though. The one to Young definitely wasn't a double. He Ole'd it on a hard hit ball that would have landed against most RFers. Your source is inside the D-rays org, right? We're getting similar info, though I suspect from differing outlets.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:53 AM) He played the "I'm a bigger fan than you" card. This is how you can tell "real" fans from those imitation fake ones. You'd never see a fake fan say I'm a bigger fan than you, and my dad can beat up your dad. (This is where I would put my :rolly smilie. Let's all take a moment and remember our good friend :rolly You'll be missed 'ol boy. You'll be missed.)

QUOTE(TLAK @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Jerry Owens was on White Sox weekly a few minutes ago and said he heard through his agent that 'something' might happen today. Thats all he said. He hasn't played in 2 weeks, and hasn't played well in a year. Somehow I doubt that 'something' is him getting called up.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Gene Honda Civic replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) Pretty pathetic that we couldn't sell out a Friday night game against a division rival late in the season, during a pennant race. The game should have been sold out weeks in advance. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) I was very surprised by that, considering there were fireworks as well. It was pretty close to full though. Listen up, becuase this is the only time I'm going to post this. Once the college kids go back to shool and the families stop coming out on weeknights, the attendace drops. -- THERE IS NOTHING NEW HERE! Last season, the first game after school was back in session drew 20K fans. There were a number of games down the stretch where fewer than that showed. This was for a team marching to it's best season in over 20 years. April 1-May 15th and August 25th-October 1, the Sox have trouble drawing fans. Honestly, the only thing surprising is that smart posters like yourselves don't pick up on this. -
Not my Ipod, but I'll play. Here's the last 10 songs that played for me on Pandora... Two Step -- Dave Matthews Band The Beauty of Gray -- Live Michael -- Red House Painters (Never heard 'em before. I didn't give it an up or a down) Concrete Bed -- Nada Surf Warriors -- Yeah Yeah Yeahs I want you around -- Ramones High -- Tripping Daisy A Face in the Crowd -- Tom Petty Something New -- The Smithereens You Drive me Crazy -- Shakin' Stevens

Former 05 Sox Players Headed to Post Season?
Gene Honda Civic replied to stretchstretch's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Frank wasn't traded. Neither was Blum. Loaiza was traded, but that was '04. .400 is a good batting average though. -
LOL "This game is going to be watched by 95 million people." So, what you're saying coach is that this game is going to be the second most watched event on TV this year? Get over yourself.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 12:54 AM) yeah, especially when the year's not over and we haven't even started the playoffs yet. How coud we judge Freddy's stretch run, when we haven't witnessed it yet? All his critics are ignorent on the subject. First off, misspelling ignorant is fishing hilarious. Second, Freddy had an ERA of 3.65 on this date last year. He had allowed exactly 1H/inning, while pitching 15 more innings than he has to date, and allowing 7 fewer HRs and 16 fewer earned runs. Every time '06 Freddy pitches and passes the buck to his teammates the season draws another 'L' closer to ending without a post-season trip. -
http://blogs.dailysouthtown.com/whalen/200...ouse_drama.html Can I get a giant STFU!? Freddy, you're complaining about the best offense in baseball. You have one win in your last 13 starts against AL opponents. STFU! already. Maybe he'll clear waivers and we can get rid of his ass before the Waiver-deadline.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) And you still haven't said why Garcia is worth more than Crisp, other than that he's a "big game" (hah) and "battle tested" pitcher. Ah when this is the best thing you can say about a pitcher.... Garcia's well on his way to turning into Russ Ortiz.

Yeah. The Crackberry Crew are f***ing annoying.
