  1. Current needs: Closer Legitimate Starting RF Legitimate Starting LF (Eloy to DH) Legitimate Backup Catcher Legitimate 21st Century Manager New Owner Current wants: 1 or 2 more starters
  2. The Atlanta Baseball Team and their racist ritual enacted under Ted Turner and Jane Fonda’s ownership reign needs to be axed next. The Chicago Hockey team must also change its team name and racist merchandising. Teams will continue to fight this because they make millions merchandising these racist caricatures, and fear their Karen fan base would pitch a hissy fit, and dare I say it, take a knee in protest.
  3. 2. My point covers fans reactions, not whether he is an addict or not. Nobody beyond perhaps his wife knows whether he is an alcoholic or just an arrogant person who doesn't give a shit if he drinks and drives and any consequences, he knows enablers like Jerry will always bail him out. He could quite possibly be both. 3. Explain this quote:
  4. Tony does have a serious problem, and he should spend his time and efforts working full time on it instead of managing a baseball team a decade removed from the role at the age of 76. If he would have sincerely changed his behavior after his first arrest, and did what he claimed he would do which was to ensure this would never happen again, he would not be facing the same level of criticism. Ironic how Tony's defenders are pulling out the victim card. Explain how Tony's dumb ass is screwed for life if he is out of baseball? He really needs to work for a living at 76 after taking tens of millions over the years? If so, he is a bigger idiot than the comments he has spewed over the decades.
  5. Not to mention the alcohol / drunk driving culture of Tony LaRussa participated in, condoned and inspired in Saint Louis, resulting in the death of Josh Hancock. With Tony's second DUI arrest coming when he was with Anaheim in yet another crony job, the club dealing with the recent substance death with criminal charges against a club employee the previous season. Tony called Jerry from his jail cell to ask for Jerry to give him a job, knowing his would be finished in Anaheim, which Jerry immediately did. How many times did cops let Tony off because he is "a legit hall of famer"? How many times did Tony drive drunk without getting caught? Any hit and run accidents with damage to property and or people?
  6. This or the Prince Symbol. And when the White Sox club home runs off their pitching, I want the last minute of this clip on the Jumbotron.
  7. Again, if you are unwilling to understand and/or acknowledge statistics in context, then there isn't anything else to say to you on this subject other than to close with this: Thank you Juiced Ball!: 2019 Nomar Mazara 116 G; 19 HR, .786 OPS 2019 Adam Eaton 151 G, 15 HR, .792 OPS
  8. Let's try this again. This is not even remotely accurate. Eaton had a 6.6 bWAR (5.9fWAR), and averaged a 5.2 bWAR (4.4 fWAR) with the White Sox. That is the type of production which caused Mike Rizzo to overreach in this trade. 2019 Adam Eaton is 1.5 bWAR / 2.3 fWAR player. No team is giving up those prospects for him. In fact, no team was willing to give anything beyond a $8.0M deal. Adam Eaton's 2019 was barely above league average (104 OPS+), with the White Sox it averaged +120. The 2019 counting stats were heavily influenced by the crazy juiced ball which crazily inflated most player's stats. When the ball returned to normal last season, Eaton did as well. Dick Allen (.292 / .378 / .534) would be a below average BA hitter with power if you compared his stats to the average 1930 ballplayer (.296 / .356 / .434). However, putting stats into the proiper context, and accounting for the severely depressed offensive output in the 1960s results in Allen's 156 OPS+, 62 points higher than the average 1930 hitter w/ OPS + of 94.
  9. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/report-white-sox-manager-tony-la-russa-enters-plea-deal-dui-charges According to the report, La Russa will have to pay a $1,383 fine, all incarceration costs, and will have to complete 20 hours of community service. La Russa will have a change of plea hearing on Dec. 21, The Athletic says. On that date it will also be determined whether or not La Russa has to serve any jail time. La Russa has not spoken publicly since news of his arrest first broke in November. So in Bob Nightengale speak, if jail time for a DUI conviction equates to missing time at work due to the flu, does no jail time mean Tony's criminal conviction equate to a case of the hiccups or acid reflux? Anxiously awaiting Steve Stone's tweets on the subject. Still holding out hope his arrest video and police reports will be fully posted in the near future. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/crime/tony-larussa-dui-arrest
  10. Millionaire / Billionaire Justice. I hope Canada bans Tony's ass anyway, if baseball is ever played there again while he is manager. Law and order for thee, not for me.
  11. This is all tracked online, updated regularly. The White Sox' payroll in 2020 was $128.2M, of which Jerry only paid out $50.2M. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QdJEFEHa6YbLrnNhI7Z3DCZwOEycKPNVVMnkI_eN8zU/edit#gid=1520401900 Currently, the White Sox payroll including projected arbitration cases and transactions this week is at $113.6M, $14.6M less than last year's projected payroll, $60.4M more than what Jerry actually paid out last year. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1C4dU46AiC_pt1GtzakmASUg9UD_UnpG32kdRZ3clOnk/edit#gid=1520401900 The open question is what the hell did that idiot mean (Bruce Levine) when he said the Sox had $30M to spend. The more intelligent way to report this is approximately how much more do the White Sox have to spend at this juncture of the off-season, after Lynn and the Adam "Drake LaRoche is my leader" Eaton were brought in this week.
  12. Cot’s is the only website anyone needs to evaluate payroll. https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/american-league/chicago-white-sox/ https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QdJEFEHa6YbLrnNhI7Z3DCZwOEycKPNVVMnkI_eN8zU/htmlview
  13. I'm assuming they are already at $17M at $9M for Lynn and $8M with Eaton including the buyout. Perhaps $20M if you include a bump in manager salary for LaRussa, plus Arizona legal costs / bribes. $30M dropped of the books this year with Parrot, Herrera, Gonzalez and Mazara gone, so treading water vs. last year's $120M level (only $50M actually paid - Jerry still made money last season - open the books you lying POS), or $30M more? I guess time will tell.
  14. Contract values and projected fWAR per Fangraphs Starting RF: Joc Pederson (2.4) or Jackie Bradley (1.4) - 2/($10.0M per year) Closer: Alex Colome (0.1) 2 / $16M ($8.0M) Backup Catcher: Mike Zunino (1.1) 2 / ($5.0M) - or trade Adam Eaton for James McCann Starting LF (Eloy to DH): Kyle Schwarber (2.0) 1/ ($7.0M)
  15. Reinsdorf’s greed runs a world in need. Agreed, though Lynn, Katz and Cairo have been quality adds so far. I believe Hahn intends to add a SP and or late inning RP. A dream would also include a final OF to relegate Eaton to a fourth/fifth OFer, or shift Eloy to part/full time DH. That said, he also intended on hiring a manager with recent October managerial experience, but does not have final say in any of this beyond perhaps a Tim Beckham type decision.
  16. If Renteria slotted Eaton second on a regular basis, this board, Steve Stone and Ozzie Guillen would go apeshit, but when LaRussa does it it will be mostly crickets / shout down those who question the decision. Eloy, Abreu, Anderson, Moncada, Robert and Grandal should always occupy the top six slots in the batting order when playing.
  17. You want propaganda over honest accurate assessments and commentary? At times, sometimes key times, Grandal has the attention span of a 4 year old in a juice box soccer league. He is also not known for his game preparation or management. A few of the reasons the Sox selected McCann over Grandal to catch the rookie starters.
  18. This, beyond some type of bargain I’m more comfortable with the Sox approaching this after year end, assuming there is a year (2021 Rona 2022 CBA).
  19. Jacques Demers is functionally illiterate, but was a very successful coach (Two time Jack Adams Trophy winner and Montreal's last La Coupe Stanley) nearly three decades ago. Jacques also served as general manager in the NHL for the Tampa Bay Lightening, and later in Canada's Senate.
  20. @Vulture, I had the same assumption, but based on a more recent post, Baseball Reference is intentionally withholding factoring their pitch framing metric in their dWAR rating per their most recent update regarding the topic (March, 2018). https://www.sports-reference.com/blog/2018/03/pitch-framing-measures-added-to-baseball-reference/ Our friends at Sports Info Solutions (formerly known as Baseball Info Solutions) have provided us with a pitch framing measure back to 2011, which we have added to Baseball Reference. Before I explain any further, if you're unfamiliar with the concept of pitch framing please read Mike Fast's 2011 article on the topic and Ben Lindbergh's 2013 follow up. The stat that we have added is called Strike Zone Runs Saved. It represents the runs saved by catcher framing. In our tables, it's labeled RszC and it's available from 2011 to the present. While this statistic is a potential component of Defensive Runs Saved (and therefore WAR), please note that we have elected to not integrate this number into DRS (or WAR) at this time. We may elect to do so in the future, but for now we agree with Bill James's stance that waiting for further research is a good idea.
  21. I'm hoping for a Mark Cuban type to own the team by 2027. I don't even want to contemplate the possibility of Jerry as managing partner into his 90s, approaching 50 years of control. It's Christmas for Christ's sake, can't we end the year on a positive note. PS - I wouldn't assume or project current CBA parameters past this season (low $0.6M league minimum, six years of player control, etc.). The players need to not only protect themselves but also the integrity of the game at this point, as it's clear owners have no interest.
  22. Hello Exactly! Tim Anderson did his job in the playoffs. You know who sucked ass? Oh, Mr. Teacher. Duck Dynasty teach thyself.
  23. Not sure how anyone can determine the Sox signed the RF "they could have signed", when we are literally one week into December, with zero other RFers signed at this point, The same juncture the Sox were last year when they traded for Mazara. Again, if Eaton is a platoon player, and the White Sox sign a legitimate starting OFer, than it's just an overpay and if Eaton's world famous d-bag tendencies are checked by Tim, Jose and other "legit ballplayers", than whatever . If this is the extent of the White Sox hitting moves, it is just another Mazara band-aid, perhaps a child size butterfly band-aid. Just don't stand there touting a commitment to winning multiple championships. The Nationals have no legitimate RF, are also trying to win a World Series, know first hand his capabilities and decided it was better to pay him $1.5M to go away then commit the money the White Sox paid to acquire him. Also, don't reply he hit a meaningful WS HR. If that is the standard, then Geoff Blum should have played his final several years here and have a statute on the concourse. Ned Yost won a World Series, I don't want his dumbass here either.
