  1. Per Cot's data, there is $4M-5M remaining if $118M is the target. It's also a $10M reduction from the 2020 payroll, before owners axed 102 games. The White Sox spent $50.2M last season, time will tell what players will ultimately be paid in 2021. 2008 ($121.2M) and 2011 ($128.7M) were the only two seasons White Sox payroll exceeded $119M.
  2. Yep, though he deserved to get shit canned regardless of who was GM. He was absolutely god-awful. Don't expect 2021 version to be any better. Chicago White Sox Managerial Winning Percentages / Average Finish Gene Lamont .551 / 1.8 Ozzie Guillen .524 / 2.4 Jerry Manuel .515 / 2.0 Jeff Torborg .515 / 3.7 Terry Bevington .509 / 2.3 Tony LaRussa .506 / 3.7
  3. IMore stoked about having Kasper in the booth on the radio side than any Cub taunting/impact. He is a good announcer, and I'll get used to his Kermit the Frog voice. I don't watch Cubs games much, but he seemed really interesting on his interview with the Score the day he was hired. Jason joined the show and they talked about a podcast and other things. Andy was OK, but the broadcast was awkward at times last season, though understandable with the COVID / call road games, Andy's inexperience and being new as a team beyond Andy filling in for a sick Farmeo the previous season. I expect them to hit the ground running. Harry / Piersall still the gold standard, Rooney / Farmer next best, Hawk was OK with the Double D, after that not so much.
  4. Hell, JR still hasn’t paid for a meal since getting a Diners Club card in the 1960s.
  5. The comedy Schtick gets old, but Jason is a solid announcer. Stone can be good when he gets over himself (on and off air) and sticks to analysis. Most looking forward to Len Kasper and the radio broadcasts, and hearing Len work with Jason on podcasts and when Stone is off.
  6. Collins is more like Avery Weens in terms of trade value than he is Meija. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/teams/521/ Meija 3.6 + 0.3 = Collins 2.1 + Weems 1.8
  7. Living within your means + Smart >>> Cheap + Greed + Avarice Can you imagine if Jerry had to compete in the AL East like Tampa? He would be wailing for 24 team playoffs, and be perfectly content waving carrots and "just missing out".
  8. Jeez, pretty sure it’s a hockey reference.
  9. Would prefer to give up a legit hall of famer, and the Sox just so happen to have one.
  10. Based on a survey of 20 MLB GMs conducted by the four letter network, Liam Hendricks and Alex Colome were voted the Free Agents most likely to be over paid this offseason. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30572289/spend-big-lindor-bryant-get-dealt-gms-insiders-weigh-in
  11. Opening Day as scheduled would truly be a Christmas miracle. Hot stove MLB GM Survey: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30572289/spend-big-lindor-bryant-get-dealt-gms-insiders-weigh-in Two-part question: Do you think spring training will start on time, and will baseball play 162 regular-season games? Survey says: Start on time -- Yes 8, No 12. Play 162 -- Yes 10, No 10.
  12. Merry Christmas one and all, and hope us fans get a few more players in our stockings before opening day, hopefully sometime this Spring!
  13. I would have preferred trading for years of Musgrove over a few months of Lynn (with the pending reduction/elimination of 2021 baseball by the owners). Hope they can make a deal work, would be a very good acquisition.
  14. With the loss of nearly 2/3 of the schedule last year due to the owners intentionally dragging out the lockout, the continued annual depression of free agent salaries and collusion, reduction in draft compensation and other losses over the past few years, not sure they are the strongest sports union at this point. Also, perhaps the MLBPA doesn't care about potential members, but they should, or at least assist in establishing a minor league players union. Would be a smart long term move to consider.
  15. Agreed, the Union has provided weak leadership the past few years. Would like to see a change in leadership and or negotiation priorities impacting the broader rank and file.
  16. Boston signs Matt Andriese to a 1 yr plus team year 2 option. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/12/red-sox-sign-matt-andriese.html Matt Andriese is guaranteed $1.85MM in 2021 plus at least a $250K buyout on a $3.5MM option for the 2022 season, tweets Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. He can earn up to $500K worth of incentives each season if he tops 150 innings, and his 2022 salary would rise by $1MM if he hits that mark in 2021.
  17. Yes, the Players Union needs to include improving this system, minor league compensation, and significantly increasing minimum ML salaries, and fix the clock manipulation or knock off years of control in the 2022 negotiations.
  18. Dodgers, Tommy Kahnle Agree To Two-Year Deal https://www.mlb.com/news/tommy-kahnle-deal-with-dodgers Projects to return in 2022 after August TJS. Kahnle's contract will pay him $750,000 in 2021, $3.45 million in 2022, plus a $550,000 signing bonus, per a source. It also includes $750,000 in potential performance bonuses in 2022.
  19. https://www.radio.com/670thescore/podcasts/bernstein-show-65/transition-reacting-to-tony-la-russas-comments-on-his-dui-arrest-352854596 Good transition two minutes in regarding Tony's ongoing denial of his substance abuse issues by chalking up his criminal behavior to a habitual series of bad decisions (a great attribute for a Manager). The segment also covers Tony's numerous other significant issues, and the unfortunate impact on the White Sox. https://www.radio.com/670thescore/podcasts/laurence-holmes-on-670-the-score-61/holmes-mark-grote-interview-top-5-tuesday-ft-dan-durkin-hour-1-352861216 Laurence Holmes covers LaRussa's alcoholism further four minutes in, and the White Sox' irresponsible behavior and communication over the past several weeks. Laurence concludes the segment stating Tony is either an alcoholic in need of help, and or a liar.
  20. OK Boomer, one of your more cognizant statements. Similar to your self-proclaimed ignorance of baseball economics, yet full of baseless opinions. Karens like you and Tony can't understand why there is near universal opposition to this pathetic crony hire of a pathetic drunken criminal, or Tony's lifelong history of ignorant comments, comments a majority of Boomers share. Not surprised you clutch your pearls when anyone dare criticize the naked drunk emperor. For your lame insult attempt, ignored. No longer paying your troll toll.
  21. Estadio Latinoamericano, both to honor the Havana Stadium specifically, and Latin American Baseball in general, or Minnie Minoso Park would be two great names for the current White Sox Park II / Comiskey Park II. Beisbol de los White Sox, Hogar de la Conexion Cubana!!! (A tip of the hat to the old Aronson commercials.)
  22. Very good news on all fronts. I'd be thrilled if they promoted Jose Abreu to Asst. GM / Player now, or Asst. GM when he is done playing. No finer ambassador for the team or our country. Kudos to Marco Paddy as well, also well deserving of a promotion.
  23. He's been there, done that. That said, no liquor company will touch Rummy with a ten foot pole. Jerry Reinsdorf said Tony has no business managing, he is too old to deal with the job or trying to relate to players in their 20s. He said this in February 2020, before Tony called from his jail cell and beg Jerry for a job. Jerry said it, and then he did what he did. There are no fools like old fools. "Managing, it just takes an awful lot out of you. There's nothing else for him to accomplish. You know, he's won three World Series, and uh, he's in the Hall of Fame. And so, there's no reason for him to go back to managing, and have to try to deal with people 22 years old when you're 75 years old." 6:23 mark
  24. Well, I have no criminal record, I retired at 50 living prudently, doing well for and to others. I never lashed out at those trying to change society positively. Was able to find employment throughout my life not relying on cronyism for four decades. Not a high bar, I acknowledge, but also not a bar Tony has or can meet at any level. My point, which clearly went over your head, is outside of Tony literally shooting Jerry or a member of his family, he is untouchable as long as Jerry is alive and seated as Chairman. Tony was rightfully out of managing for a decade. He has sucked enough time and money out of society over the decades with his traveling Booze and Balco show, if he had any common decency or concern for anyone but himself, he would have never even sought the job in the first place.
