  1. Yep. Nico Hoerner, Shane McClanahan, Brady Singer, Logan Gilbert and Jonathan India are the Top 5 in bWAR through Monday. https://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?year_ID=2018&draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round&from_type_jc=0&from_type_hs=0&from_type_4y=0&from_type_unk=0
  2. They will bring in more overall revenue if the stop the bleeding and retain fans who have been loyal in the past. I have hope because Kenny stated he won't return once his contract is out (2023 or 2024), and the fact Jerry media (CSN Garfien / Ozzie, Nightengale) are taking shots publicly at Hahn throughout the year. Jerry will likely keep Hahn, but hopefully in a crony "adversary" role like he is doing with Paxson.
  3. I'm hoping he pitches well, at minimum stays healthy, the final two months so that he opts out himself and the Sox pay nothing. After the "Gold Digger" debacle, it's clear he has no contrition or sense of decency, and like Trevor Bauer he is not a human being you want in an organization regardless of on field talents. I'm only following non-Clevinger starts this year because I'm giving Hahn and the organization the benefit of doubt that their incompetence of not conducting a background check was honest, and hopefully a lesson the organization improves on a go forward. Hahn's comments post trade deadline indicate player character will be prioritized in future transactions give me hope they are earnest.
  4. Much of the angst over this trade in particular is the organization was being vague about their direction. Hopefully the trade is a win win for both teams over time. Unfortunately for Jake Burger and Burger fans, he was the only position player in demand at the deadline. A majority of fans will accept a well thought out and communicated plan by a new FO this offseason, with a FO in place by end of WS, new manager by mid November to allow playoff team candidates, and a honest 2024 and three year plan. Admit mistakes, take care of your die-hard season ticket holders with a significant ticket price decreases for long term goodwill (20% for ST, 10-15% for individual ticket sales), lower parking to $25-$30. Bring back season ticket perks (Bring back on the field days, give them a buffet spread, have special bobbleheads or other giveaways. Bring back SoxFest with the new FO and Manager, and start promoting the good players and people you already have beyond Liam. The Sox have a chance for a fresh direction, fresh management and a fresh start. Will they take advange? 5. I just hope she doesn't have a two year old child (or any child) as has been alleged in reports.
  6. Perhaps @Quinor someone else who follows the minor leagues closely can note players the Sox should protect for the Rule 5 draft, but there are a several players the Sox can toss to free up room for next year, plus a few pitchers if push comes to shove. Departing Free Agents Clevinger ($4M Buyout - Please don't keep this guy) Grandal Hendriks ($15M buyout - Unless they take the option / add a 2025 extension) Expendable Guys C. Frazier A. Haseley C. Perez Z. Remillard G. Sheets T. Thompson That said, I would like to see the Sox add Billy Hamilton to the 40 man in September and call him up for a start or two and proper send off, especially if he plans on retiring after the season. Dan, not Edgar. RIP Eric Lowen.
  7. Are you the keeper of the Chicago White Sox Doomsday clock? Do you have any leads as to the lucky city who will steal from their men, women and children and future generations of unborn children to give Jerry yet another free stadium? Will The Big Guy get his standard 10% kickback? Gotta hurry before everyone dies.
  8. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/08/white-soxs-romy-gonzalez-undergoes-labrum-surgery.html Didn't see this anywhere here. Romy is expected to be ready for Spring Training. His last game was June 17, he is eligible for the MLB minimum through 2025. What time is the White Sox Doomsday Clock after this injury @Texsox? 1 minute 'til midnight?
  9. Think Carson Kelly would be a pick up for the Sox to get them through the rest of this and possibly next season until prospects arrive. He is 28, a solid defensive catcher, Arb 1 eligible (likely $4M-$5M range) and he could possibly be flipped for something decent next July if he can return to being an average offensive catcher. Neither Perez or Grandal are legitimate catchers at this point. Would hate to rush either prospect and screw up their development,. Carson and Sevy are cromulent enough to handle the staff, perhaps Kelly can help some of the young pitchers. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/08/nl-west-notes-diamondbacks-yaz-haniger-luciano-profar.html

  12. This very well could be Rick Hahn's worst acquisition ever in terms of contract and value. Albert Belle he is not. Sox fans focus on the holes at Catcher, Second Base and Right Field, but Left Field has also been a black hole during "Ozzie Ball" and Rick Hahn eras. Nicky Delmonico was six starts shy of claiming the top spot (76 games in 2018, minus 1.0 bWAR). 13. I root for the Sox if listening / watching, but if they lose I am not upset. The Sox need to win six more games (6-38 .133) to avoid the worst winning percentage in White Sox history. They need to go 18-26 (.409) to finish over .400. White Sox seasons below .400 Winning Percentage .325 1932 .336 1948 .346 1970 .349 1934 .366 1931 .383 2018 - A Rick Hahn Production (62-100) .388 1929 .389 2013 - A Rick Hahn Production (63-99) .390 1950 .398 2023 - A Rick Hahn Production (47-71 YTD) .398 1976
  14. The two leagues were separate entities for over 80 years. Should return to that format, separate umpires, separate schedules, separate league offices. Round robin competition and no playoffs is the best option, but it would never pass, plus exceeds the historical balance of competition within 8 - 10 team leagues. Only regular season champions, be it single leagues or division, should compete for a "World Championship". If you can't win a 4-7 team division, GTFO. They should also put an asterisk or scarlet letter beside any official World Series list next to the 1997 Florida Marlins, 2002 Anaheim Angels, 2003 Florida Marlins, 2004 Boston Red Sox, Tony La Russa's 2011 Saint Louis Cardinals, 2014 San Francisco Giants and 2019 Washington Nations. They should also pledge to never allow this scam again. It's NBA/NHL/CBB level bullshit. * - These teams were not able to win beat out 3-4 other division teams over the 162 game "championship season", but had a hot couple weeks.
  15. Ramirez showed up the following day, premeditated with his agent, wearing boxing gloves. Then he claims he sent word of an apology and hasn't heard back. He is an assclown. Full stop.
  16. I sincerely hope there are two division winners and even a wild card team under .500 which make it this year. My solution, two seven team divisions in each league (two teams contracted), and balanced intraleague schedule (12 X 13 teams = 156 games) pit four division champions. If in place this year, the four playoff teams are Baltimore (AL East .615) vs. Texas (AL West .598) and Atlanta (NL East .647) and Los Angeles (NL West .603). I threw out an eight division example because the owners can't help themselves and would never go from 12 to 4 teams. There would be more interest and ratings in the All Star Game and Playoffs / World Series if the best teams during the 156 or 162 game season were competing to be champions.
  17. 1. Jose Ramirez instigated the fight by shoving Tim's leg and then getting up and aggressively wagged his finger within inches of Tim's face. Do that in a bar or on the streets without MLB security to protect you and you're liable to an asswhupping at minimum, possibly several bullets in your body now since we are in 2023. 2. Jose Ramirez made contact with the ump, instigated the fight, and should have gotten an equal suspension term. 3, Tray didn't say anyone who didn't support TA is racist. He said there is an element of racism to some of the comments.
  18. I typically give a manager a full season to adjust, and thought a new manager may need even more time considering the shitshow that is the White Sox. However, the comments he makes indicates an "Hahn like" level of incompetence. Can see why Teflon Rick liked Pedro, yet another useful potential scapegoat.
  19. An apt comparison. 1. Parents, teachers and children called Milton Bradley’s three year old the n-word while with the Cubs. https://www.espn.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=4496640 2. Of course the Tribune columnist and now 670 The Whore Show and Cubs fan Host David Haugh belittled Milton Bradley. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/milton-bradley-and-the-race-card/ 3. Cubs manager Lou Pinella called Bradley a piece of s%*# for being upset, which of course big mouth Ozzie Guillen had to jump in and co-sign. https://www.nbcsports.com/mlb/news/potent-quotables-sweet-lou-turns-sour 4. A group of Cubs fans chanted Aunt Jemima and other racial slurs outside of Wrigley Field at Sun Times columnist Mary Mitchell and her 12 year old son. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2001-07-12-0107120175-story.html 5. Racist Cub Bros and Cub employees defend thugs spewing racial epithets on Hispanic Heritage Night. Pepperidge Farm remembers.
  20. Playoff "appearances" are meaningless beyond extra revenue for owners. 16 teams made the playoffs, what some fans here want to make permanent, rendering an 162 game season less relevant than a five or seven game series. The 8-12 team playoffs were watered down enough. Baseball played seven decades with 8 or 10 (1960s) team leagues, World Series lone playoffs. This guaranteed only the top few teams would be crowned world champions. Now you can finish fourth in a five team division and win the World Series. It's absolutely ludicrious and a complete and utter sham. I will join 97% of America and not pay attention to it. This wasn't the case prior to 1994 when teams had to earn a post season appearance, not merely play around .500 baseball.
  21. The NBA and NFL are primarily national television contract driven leagues. Their payrolls and revenue have a much narrower window than MLB or even the NHL. Can't have a salary cap unless the owners share everything, and they keep building revenue sources not subject to sharing (real estate). The Yankees haven't won or appeared in a World Series since 2009, the Mets 2015 (1986 last win); Anaheim once ever (2002). It comes down to owners willing to actually compete, and having a competent front office to do so. I don't believe geography doesn't give the teams the significant advantage you are stating. The non coastal cities were well represented the past decade plus (2010-2022), covering half (13 of 26) of World Series teams: World Series Winners (5): Saint Louis (2011); Kansas City (2015); Chicago (2016); Houston (2017 & 2022) World Series Losers (8): Texas (2010 & 2011); Detroit (2012); Saint Louis (2013); Kansas City (2014); Cleveland (2016); Houston (2019 & 2021) Chicago >>> Houston Plus Dallas already has a team, they aren't getting two. The Sox are staying in Chicago, Baltimore (to Nashville) and Oakland (to Las Vegas) are the likely two possible moves over the next few decades.
