  1. He's willing to spend stupidly. How many of their big signings, outside of Shohei have worked out? I don't want someone to spend for the sake of spending.
  2. Also, if you are talking sports, this includes the global world, there are many european football owners who are FAR worse then Reinsdorf. We are talking letting their teams go bankrupt and lose professional standing. All you have to do is go to the EFL. I'm sorry but I do think this needs to be pointed out to be put into context. I legitimately think Spurs ownership is worse then Reinsdorf, although Levy is actually a good comp to him.
  3. They also didn't win a world series. If we are taking to account full ownership, Reinsdorf has seven championships and Moreno has zero. I don't like Reinsdorf. I just don't think he's the worst.
  4. I think the White Sox have been more competitive and successful with Reinsdorf then the Angels with Moreno. A broken clock can be right occasionally.
  5. I think Moreno might be worse. Wasting Trout and Ohtani is criminal.
  6. Pop psychology: he learned from the failures of the last administration?
  7. I dunno, based on recent play, this teams seems very capable of going 26-27 the rest of the year. That isn't great by any means but it is a marked improvement over last year. As far as playoffs, if you can nab a wild card spot or win the division with 85-86 wins, yes this team with the right investment and free agent signings/trades could absolutely do that. This all gets back to the fact that the team last year was never as bad as their record indicated but were horribly mismanaged.
  8. $$$$$$ It depends though. What kind of $$ they are offering and how does the team look at the end of the year. Bryce Harper wanted to come here in 2019 after an abysmal year. Could absolutely see some players finding this place attractive to play.
  9. This team isn't that bad though. They had an awful start but if you remove that, they are basically close to or a little under .500. Nobody is doing cartwheels but it is progress. They are much better than they were last year. To be honest, the team wasn't that bad last year but they were so poorly managed that it obviously looks much worse on paper. Getting to 60-65 wins is a big deal. Let's say that get to 66 wins, which I think, quite frankly is a very reasonable goal. That's a 23 win improvement, and that comes just from dumping out the last excess of toxicity and getting better coaching. You invest smartly in the team and they could become a playoff contender next year. Especially in an American League that is just much weaker than the NL. 86 wins could probably get you a wild card spot. So yes, this team is no World Series contender right now. However there is merserable progress. As someone who is a footy fan, they are essentially a mid to lower level premier league team that is tough to beat and fun to watch. Eventually, some of those teams vie for the equivalent of our playoffs, which is Europe. Some of those teams make it into the conference league. Actually Crystal Palace, if people are attuned to what is happening over there is a good shout. You had a team underachieving and hanging around relegation due to a bad fit at manager. They replaced him with a new manager and the difference is night and day.
  10. I was skeptical of the hire but you have to give Getz credit in that he has been much more serious about building an organization and a culture.
  11. Yeah. But he won't live much longer. Dunno. I think they miight spend. I'm just worried they won't spend it well.
  12. Whether they actually will or not, Reinsdorf is old enough that he might fucking go for it next year in the same way we did in 2020. I think if they keep this core and spend the money, more importantly spend it wisely, I think they can compete with Detroit. That being said, they need to invest in the team.
  13. Yes! Buehrle was the master of marginal gains! So technically brilliant as a pitcher and so good at doing the little things that it elevated him. I think especially with this injuries, a lot of people pointed to the usual culprits (Kerry Wood, etc) as having poor mechanics. Buehrle's were pretty much perfect. Buehrle reminds me of a soccer player I admire, Jorginho. Jorgi will never be confused as the quickest or strongest but his technical skills were perfect and h is the master at the little things (distribution, PK's, etc). If there is a hall of fame for FIFA, Jorgi would get in.
  14. I'm mostly going to paraphrase from my post on instagram on this but I think Buehrle should be in the hall of fame and I think, especially looking at Sabathia case, it becomes more cut and dry. What I find interesting is that a lot of the people who make the case against Buehrle don't make the case based on numbers but on vibes. He didn't dominate the way pitchers like Johnson did. Or whatever. But he didn't have to. I'm not even a huge WAR head either as it diminishes players - Harold Baines comes to mind - but I do think it's a good clinical way at looking at data when it comes to the accomplishments of players. Getting back to his strikeout numbers, for the type of pitcher Buehrle was, they were actually pretty high. I actually thought his total K number would be lower. Furthermore, his defensive play and his ability to pick runners off make up for this. He was one of the best players at his position in the history of the game at doing both. Both are reflected in that WAR number. I genuinely think he will get in but it's gonna be another 10 years. He's likely going to stay on the writers ballot for his enitre time of eligiblity and I think players will vote him in. But I think writers really need to have a hard think about this because I'm convinced if he threw 95mph, he'd be in.
  15. I think Joe Jackson has a far better case than Rose. They were getting fucked over by their owners. THey also couldnt' get out of the agreement due to the power of the mob. I can't morally side with the billionaire bosses over the workers. Also, the Reds had a better record that year. There has been a lot of revisionist history over 1919.
  16. In football, players aren't getting lifetime bans but they are getting season long bans. Meanwhile, you have gambling companies sponsoring teams. Ivan Toney, who was banned for most of last year for betting, wore a gambling sponsor on his Brentford shirt. I honestly don't think there should be a lifetime ban for the first offense. It's an addiction. I think a two to three year long ban plus the right kind of addiction counseling to prevent it from happening again would be a good solution. This is every bit an addiction issue in the same way drugs are.
  17. It's safe to say this team won't be breaking last year's record.
  18. No. Their predicted win loss record as of now is the same where they ended last year. However there are already signs of progress. Quite frankly that Predicted W-L record is probably undercooked given how toxic that situation got. Talent wise, the team should have won around 60 games last year.
  19. This isn't anything to write home about but last year's White Sox team is fascinating in only that they shouldn't have really been anywhere near that record, numbers wise. It was that big losing streak after the All Star break that gave us the record. Grifol truly was the worst manager this franchise has ever had. Tbh, I think this White Sox team can probably get close to 60 games this year. I know the record is similar but we are starting to win series now. 5-6 in May is a decent start. If they can sort of trod a long be consistently average for the rest of the year, it's possible. (THESE AREN'T RINGING ENDORSEMENTS)
  20. I fear that Colorado switched managers in time and will likely get enough of a new manager bounce to save them from getting the record. Having said that, I believe their overriding numbers are worse than ours last year. Anyone think they might break our record?
  21. Special shout out to Walker for making his Major League managing debut. If you want all the dark secrets about high school, DM me 🤣
  22. It's really a damn shame. Seriously. Feel Harper would have been an amazing fit here. A fan favorite and a real leader. And Harper, especially if you listen to him, is pretty thoughtful about these kind of things. He wasn't just out there chasing the biggest paycheck. He wanted a place where he felt a genuine connection to and he felt that with the Sox.
  23. Yes. He said it was the type of club he was working to play for. It was very important for him to play for a working class fanbase and a team that was young with a lot of talent. He might have been willing to take a bit of a paycut quite frankly if the offer had been respectable.
