  1. That's quite a guarantee. I say his teams will fade like any others if his players aren't good enough.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) I would be so happy if this happened. So would I. I'll laugh my ass off next year when Guillen is building Florida into a big time winner and LaRussa is getting second guessed every day like Guillen gets second guessed now.
  3. Ozzie is a former player who played in the era of big contracts. He's cocky. Some people can't deal with that.
  4. We're probably destined to keep losing and finish about .500 which is what this team was all along. What a tease.
  5. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 04:56 AM) I don't have to generalize to make him look bad. The guy hasn't gotten a hit in a clutch situation in his entire time here, and he's had plenty of chances. ONE RBI. Thome had an amazing OBP most years too. So what? When you're old, fat, and slow, how does getting on base really help the team, unless you've got guys batting behind you that can string together 3-4 hits in a row? Manny is as base to base as Thome was. So what you're telling me is Manny is a great leadoff hitter, if only he was fast, could play the field, steal bases, and actually do something productive once he got on base? Awesome. Stats don't tell the whole story, sorry. They never do. I agree stats don't tell the whole story. They never do. Very nice two sentences by you. Bye, bye Manny. you will be a former White Sox next year which means you will be all motivated when you play the Sox and probably beat us 3 or more times.
  6. Torres, Teahen and Linebrink ... oh my. Seriously. All 3 should simply be released. I know we have a lot of posts calling for guys to be released, but these three guys can't play this sport.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 12:10 AM) If I'm KW, I'm dangling Alex Rios this winter. Maybe someone will bite and pay for the 2010 total numbers and his talent. .259 avg .301 OBP and an OPS under .700 the second half. I agree with you. If money is an object, then the Sox need that money.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 12:27 AM) I love how the Twins are somehow the epitome of playoff failure because they keep losing to the Yankees every year. The other years they've made it they lost to the Angels, the eventual World Series champion in 2002, and the A's in 2006 (the latter being the only year in which you could say they choked). Why do we care how the Twins are perceived? I repeat a common mantra, "f*** the twins."
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) they played about .500 ball in August, they're just under .500 in September. Free fall? Hardly. The Twins are just a better team, it pains me to say it, but they're playing exceptional baseball right now. we had a four game lead at one point and tons of head to head matchups against them and choked in almost every one of those head to head matchups. We are in a freefall. The Twins are good, but the White Sox who have more "name" players than the Twins, folded their cards.
  10. I wish you guys who talk about pitcher's parks and pitching in the NL would call Grobstien's show with your theory. He owned a guy who tried that last week. A good pitcher is a f***ing good pitcher. I don't care about the peripherals.
  11. I back southside on this one fully. f*** the Twins.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) I'm pretty sure if we were still in the race it would have been handled differently. At this point, who cares? Agreed. It matters not. Our team is in a freefall.
  13. If the Sox can throw away money like that, why can't they just trade Teahen and pay 4 million of his salary and why couldn't they have released Linebrink long ago? The Manny acquisition was too little too late.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) There are more and more rumors Ozzie could be leaving. There's no way in hell Fisk will be manager. That would be like naming Hawk GM. Oh wait ... that already happened. I could see Ozzie going to Florida and Sox naming LaRussa. That will not end well. LaRussa is the self proclaimed messiah. He is no better than Ozzie.
  15. We picked up that singles hitter/turd way too late for it to matter.
  16. We definitely had a chance. We were 4.5 games up at one point. We had a real chance. Sox stood pat aside from the ridiculous Jackson deal. Sox were a dysfunctional team again, doing some strange ass things, but the Sox definitely had a chance. Going 5-13 against Minnesota is incomprehensible. Eight games right there? Give me a f***ing break, White Sox.
  17. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 05:18 AM) It's not a credit to the Twins, it's a fault of the Sox. But as a Sox fan, I'm not about to congratulate a team that intentionally drills our hitters, high fives their thug outfielder for taking a cheap shot at our catcher, then laughs at us in the locker room. Especially after they just hit our MVP in the face. I hope they get crushed in the playoffs again -- just like they always do, the losers. Did they laugh at us in the locker room? If that's true, then I root against them. Otherwise I was thinking I'd like a Reds-Twins WS. But if they are laughing at us, f*** them. What goes round, comes round. Thome should put a stop to the laughing. He played for us and got cheered by our fans a lot.
  18. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 05:38 AM) I doubt it. Players really don't think like fans. Players don't like leaving an organization they played for most of their career. He'll be back. Hope so. I'd think our roller coaster season would wear on any player who truly cares. And Konerko obviously cares. Tonight's getting hit in the face proves that, homering in his next at bat. Wow.
  19. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 05:33 AM) The twins play hard every night. We don't. The Twins never concede an inning during the season. We concede many. The Twins play the game hard all the time and do anything in their power to win (whether you believe it's cheap or not). If AJ didn;t like what Delmon Young did he should have punched in the face right then and there. They make their own luck by never giving anything away. They never believe that they are out of a game, and in return, their fans get to appreciate baseball after 162 games are played. Unfortunately we rarely do. I'm torn on the "playing hard" thing. I think the Sox play hard. They came back tonight only to implode. When things are going bad, the Sox never get the big hit. I don't think it's because they are not playing hard. The losses to all the teams like the O's, Royals, Indians, don't know what to say. Our pitching isn't always great against those teams, either.
  20. I voted Viciedo at first with Paulie leaving. I have a gut feeling he wants out of this madness. I would have voted Morel at third, but I'm convinced we'll be seeing Teahen there. I just sense that. I voted Sale as a starter, but I could see him being closer or closer by committee with Matt. Putz looks like he's run his course and I suspect Bobby is gone for sure as well. We need to save this thread.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 03:53 AM) Unless it's a long-term deal for Scott Linebrink or Mark Teahen, who nobody is bidding against us for...well, in Linebrink's case, the argument was always that WAS the market for successful short relievers but there's never been an explanation given for that extension. Somebody pointed this out before, but the Sox need to quit salivating over guys who have hit sox pitching well in the past. So Teahen beat us on several occasions with KC; we acquire him for that reason and he was horses***. I bet the Sox keep him and pencil him in as a starter afraid of him turning into a Swisher. This was Teahen's off year they'll say. Next year could be his career year. Problem is is that he's not a good baseball hitter. He just is not.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 02:08 AM) You guys are seriously priceless. This team, despite losing their ace pitcher for most of the year, the worst year their closer has had, and having nothing at DH, is going to win in the territory of 90 games... has guys like Sale and Santos developing and a truly solid 5 man rotation if not more, with only one well-performing player going to free agency... and you are already writing off 2011? In September of 2010? I mean, nothing is guaranteed, but you'd think reading this that this was a Royals or Pirates board. Well that's a glass half full way of lookin at it. I applaud you for that post. I'll try to memorize it, cause I want to believe in 2011.
  23. We should hire their hitting and pitching coaches. Might be a start to break up their little dynasty.
  24. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 04:42 AM) What pisses me off more than anything is that nobody will be held accountable. Actually one guy will be, Konerko. He won't be resigned for next year. That'll be the Sox gift to him. Allowing him to get a chance to win next year, that sure as f*** isn't a possibility playing with this clown crew. I tend to agree. I wonder if Paulie may want out. That is a real possibility. We don't know what it's been like for the players the last 2 weird seasons. He may be begging for a change of scenery, though he'd never say that. I hope he doesn't want to play for the Twins. He and Thome and 5-13 will be another reality. Are we even going to win 5 versus Minnie next year? It's automatic when we have taken the field against them recently we lose. Didn't we win 2 of 3 one series against them. So virtually every other series was an epic disaster!!! I vote for Oz and Kenny to come back, but both should be fined $100,000 for their second-half work. it was truly a pathetic performance by both of them. Donate the money to a charity of the Twins' choice. They both were that bad. As far as players ... CQ has been very bad; Rios has had a fairly rotten second half, Juan and Omar just are not division-champion caliber players. definitely not everyday players on a division contender, I'd think Ozzie would tire of Juan as any sane person would on occasion, yet Juan played every single inning the second half it seemed like. Teahen is so bad it's laugable, AJ had a good second half but still is Mr. double play, our starters were very ordinary to moderately bad the second half and our bullpen was so bad that it makes you wonder if we will be a last place team next year if the bullpen doesn't improve. This is written in epic frustration mode, but I think I will agree with it even when I calm down tomorrow.
  25. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 02:06 AM) Stone's logic: Pavano has more wins, thus, he is the ace... QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 03:22 AM) Jones is a better all around player than Carlos. They are the same hitter and Jones can actually field. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 03:42 AM) Those numbers looked a lot better a month ago when he was around 23 homers and 80 RBI. If he ends up with 27 homers, 92 RBI, and a .230 batting average...that's a very disappointing season for him. Also, just let Morel play Ozzie. Teahen obviously is awful...just a brutal, brutal acquisition by KW. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 04:01 AM) hope you get the chance to see how Konerko got hit in the face by a pitch, refused to come out, and hit a homer his next at bat. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 04:45 AM) I don't know about anyone else here, but I probably will not watch any more games the rest of the year (didn't watch this game), especially if we are still playing the older veterans instead of guys like Morel, Viciedo, Flowers. Same with the pen seeing Linebrink instead of Infante/Sale. Those were the highlight posts in the thread I just read. 1.) Stoney is a great analyst. I won't criticize much of anything he says. I like hearing his color. I wish Hawk and Stoney could have let loose, however, and ripped the Sox a new asshole this series. They have to be quiet, however, lest they be replaced by the team. 2.) Hopefully you agree Jones should not be a member of the Sox next season. Time to move on there. 3.) Konerko is a f***ing stud. Hit in the face??? And continues to play? And hits home run. Nice. If the Twins were smart, they'd sign him in the offseason. 4.) I'll watch as many games as I can. We suck. Life goes on. Luckily the Blackhawks won it all. That was nice to celebrate from afar and watch the coverage of the parade, etc. Unfortunately I'm not going to have a great winter. After the last two seasons, it's hard to look forward to White Sox baseball. 5-13 versus Minnesota won't cut it. Though I don't want Ozzie fired, I wouldn't be against the team fining he and KW $100,000 apiece for their s***ty work in the second half. Donate the $200,000 to a charity of the Twins' choice. Bobby Knight allegedly wasn't paid by Texas Tech that one season. Oz and KW should give some money back. Poor, poor second half from our leaders. p.s. Mark Teahen is a nice guy, but a piece of s*** on the baseball field. I still think the Yankees might take him, thinking they have another Swisher steal on their hands from us.
