  1. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) Yeah. His dreads are down to his ass these days. He looks like a tool. So the White Sox are going to add a guy who has hair that violates team rules from what I read. And they are going to have a guy on the team who used roids on a day we are honoring Big Hurt. Mockery.
  2. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 08:37 AM) Why was the game thread so short? I know people weren't at the game looking at the crowd Anyway great team win, Jax = STUD. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Freddy is the kind of guy the yanks destroy like they do to MB. I expect nothing out of him tonight and hope Danks and Floyd bring their A game the rest ofthe weekend. 4.5 out Monday morning and I am fine. The game threads usually are short unless there's a big fight going on in there. Many have given up on the fighting. Thome did his damage. Now Swisher will be trying to time Freddy's slow pitches and wreak similar havoc. Might be wise to set a tone for the series and plunk him on his first at bat. With Minnie sweeping Seattle, this could be the season right here. Lose 2 games to the Twins this weekend will not be good.
  3. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) 1. Perfect game thread title. 2. Yes, Manny can hit the ball and would be likely to help the Sox. He's a cheater. I don't want cheaters on the team. Even if one were to argue that he's paid his penalty for the cheating and deserves a second chance, he's still a quitter. Quitting on your team is as close to unforgivable as anything. You are a good fan. Many look the other way when it's their player who did the cheating. We don't need to get this guy and give him standing ovations.
  4. How does Cooper do it? I wonder why no other team has tried to steal him away with money, money, money? He is a mastermind apparently. Jackson sure looks like a future ace if he stays healthy and Coop keeps working with him. I thought the trade was ridiculous, but Jackson looked like the best pitcher in baseball tonight. He overpowered them. That would have been great had Minnie lost. The way Jackson pitched ... he'd have blown the Royals away last week. Sad that West f***ed the Sox and Jackson. Him not pitching in that series may cost us the pennant.
  5. If he's hit that many significant bombs, then Jones is a moron for not at least making better contact sometimes to have his average be .250. At the least he could have had all of Kotsay's at bats throughout the year.
  6. Yeah, but Texas has made up for it. We haven't, cause we can't beat the bad teams in our division.
  7. I've got 14 of the first 16 home runs meaningful. Well ... I'll be. Should he be playing more? Every day?
  8. When we play the Baltimore Orioles, they look like the better team. Considering their record, that is bulls*** and unacceptable for a supposed contender.
  9. Why are you so obsessed with me? WTF? I said in that thread no, I wasn't going to look it up. Balta did, however, rather quickly and I thank him. I'm glad everything I say is remembered and memorized.
  10. It might be boring and take a long time, but it'd be neat to see when he hit each of his home runs and did they contribute to a victory? No, I'm not looking it up.
  11. I agree he's contributed more than Kotsay and Linebrink and he's worth 500,000 and has hit some bombs. I think one was a walkoff if I recall or a game winner. I applaud him for the games he's helped us win. I like anybody who helps the team win on the day they help us win. Overall I just don't like him or his approach and hope he's playing for Washington next season along with Kotsay and Linebrink.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) According to Fangraphs, this is Andruw's best offensive season since 2006. He has been worth $3.8M this season, and yet we are only playing him $0.5M. Conversely, Mark Kotsay is having his worst offensive season since 2007. He has been worth -$2.9M this season, and yet we are paying him $1.5M. Jones is playing $3.3M ABOVE his contract, and Kotsay is playing $4.4M UNDER his contract. That's a difference of $7.7M between the two. Pretty damn obvious that acquiring Andruw Jones was actually a very solid move for $500K. He is not good enough to be our full time DH, but he is a fantastic option off the bench. If Andruw Jones is worth 3.8 million this season, I feel sorry for all those great ballplayers of the past who were lucky to make that in 10 years. My god, the inflated salaries. I woudn't be against Kotsay giving Jones some of his money to make up the difference. I hate Kotsay more than I do Jones. I still say neither should be on the team if you are trying to win anything significant, like a division.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Because you're the only one I've ever seen defend him so much. It was odd to say the least. And for you to go out of your way to defend a terrible player like Wise and completely dismiss what Jones has done just doesn't make much sense. I'm not completely dismissing what Jones has done. It's nice to see him chase down a fly ball in right field. Is his production worth 500,000? Of course. Lilly's production is worth 500,000. The man you apparently dislike, Wise, was worth 500,000. You act like I started the thread. Some other person started it. As far as Wise and Dye, I don't think anybody wants to hear the reasons I liked Wise and Dye. I didn't go out of my way to trash Jones. I merely agreed with the original poster and said it was a mistake to bring him in, that he was a ridiculous acquisition.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 08:42 PM) See that's where I don't get you. Like a favorite outfielder of yours from last season, Jones is making almost the league minimum and isn't posting a respectable batting average. However in comparison, he isn't on the field as much as that other guy you liked, plays as good defense if not better, and has posted excellent power numbers in limited ABs yet you're all over Jones. If he made one outstanding defensive play that made the Web Gems for the night maybe you'd change your opinion. How do you remember so much of what I write on here? I can't remember anything about specific posters. I take that as a compliment my opinion holds so much water. IMO Jones was part of the problem of not having a good DH. He was part of the Kotsay/Jones experiment which hasn't worked. If Jones is as good as you guys say, why haven't we just played him every day. By now wouldn't he have 40 homers or something ridiculous? I'm not all over Jones BTW. When I respond in a thread about Jones why do you say I'm all over Jones? I didn't start the thread. It's a thread about Jones and I personally wish we didn't have he or Kotsay on the team. Teahen as well.
  15. Is responding to your thread good discussion? OK, KW could kick my ass unless I had a bat or something, then I'd get arrested if I fought him with that, so I wouldn't. I still say it was stupid to acquire Jones. He stunk in Texas and isn't doing much of anything here but making outs.
  16. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) Oh it's on now! Not gonna grab the bait, but I thought it was not allowed to ridicule posters in threads or bait them to fight.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) Really? Tonight was the worst loss of the season? I can pick about 4 that I think were worse just against Minnesota. I think this loss is more significant than most because it shows we don't have "it." Minnesota gets beat again and we can't beat Baltimore at home. Just shows we don't have what it takes against AL teams not named Seattle to put anything together. It was right there for us to pick up the games that we lost head to head vs. Minnie. No better scenario: They vs. Texas. Us vs. pathetic Baltimore. And we have no chance in the game at home. Very very bad loss.
  18. Jones was a ridiculous acquisition. We found out the same thing Texas did. He's no good anymore. If you want defense, there are plenty of .200 hitters who can play defense.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) I thought everyone wanted him sent down to the minors earlier? It's great what patience can bring isn't it They did. People were as adamant and vicious about that as the other hot topics on here where people think they know more than Oz/KW.
  20. I think tonight's loss was the worst of the season. Chance to pick up a game on Twins. Floppola. We are not looking like a team that is gonna scare Minnie at all.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) Well, there are some restaurants where you're treated rudely by the wait staff (I'm thinking of the Varsity in Atlanta and Gates BBQ in KC) and that's part of the tradition, but it's pretty rare where you'd go to steak place and the mai'tre d would shout "fu-- you" to the dinner party on the way to the table. I suppose you can make the point that it's EXPECTED that Ozzie is this way...so I suppose if the product is good enough, you'll put up with abusive/lousy treatment or service if the overall experience, in the end, is worth it. Of course with Ozzie, it's more of a situation where we can put up with his behavior when the team is doing pretty well or successful, it's when the team is struggling that those character "flaws" are held against him. Essentially, the same thing happened to Maradona as a football coach, but he didn't have the World Cup trophy to fall back on in his defense. I actually went to Gates last week. It's still really good. The original Gates off downtown KC. Actually the person I was with was asking dumb questions and they didn't do the insult thing at all. They were quite friendly walking the guy through his order.
  22. There you go again. What's your deal with telling people (me) what to do? I could add some more but I'll leave it at that. WTF? Good to know you are not a "normal poster" as well.
  23. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:47 AM) Put Lilli out there De Aza will be up in a week as well. Didn't we already have a day off this week? It's time to play your best players IMO.
  24. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:30 AM) Sorry to say...yes it's too much. And I know everyone loves Mr. Buehrle but he is not an ace. Having seen great pitchers in my lifetime, Mark does not measure up to even a Gary Peters, Joel Horlen, Tommy John or Wilbur Wood , let alone a Marichal or Koufax. He's better than Horlen, Peters and Wood. Tommy John was probably better.
  25. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:34 AM) You just can't keep losing to last place teams and expect to win a division. It's been 5 years since I've seen a Sox team with the killer instinct. It certainly was a blown opportunity. Minnie is faceplanting in Texas and we simply could be picking up a game a night. Sad to get shut down as we did tonight. I mean you HAVE to find a way to beat baltimore at the Cell on a night Minnie is losing again. Sad. Last 2 seasons have been exceedingly frustrating to be a fan (except for the wild 25-5 run).
