  1. Barring a miracle, the White Sox will not win the Central again this season, primarily because of the team's play against Minnesota, Cleveland, KC and Detroit. The team also sucked against Central teams last year. The question is why? Are there any statistical reasons the White Sox reek against their Central rivals? Do the opposing hitters in the division stack up well against our type of pitchers? Do they have us scouted well? Do their pitchers understand what it takes to get the Sox out? Or is it simply the fact the White Sox are the only team in the division to win a World Series in a while and opponents simply want it more than the Sox do every single night when the teans play? Is it Ozzie getting outcoached by the other skippers? What is the reason for the White Sox ineptitude vs. the Central?
  2. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) Ah, yes, the typical senile old man post. Yes, greg, I'm terribly afraid that 5'11 slap hitting ex-MLB player in his late 40s would viciously beat the s*** out of me. Greg, you're a wonderful poster because your posts, without fail, always reach a level of pure, crystallized stupidity and ignorance that one simply has to admire. Someone who calls a well known journalist a homophobic slur is not a smart person. Someone who criticizes his indirect source of income by telling them to go f*** themselves and to not spend money on his team is not a smart person. Someone who lets his spoiled brat of a kid badmouth his boss is not a smart person. While I don't expect to have a conversation with Ozzie about Kant's categorical imperative, I would expect Ozzie to rise above his current conversational level, which can only be described as Highlights for Kids with profanities. What's so ignorant about saying Ozz would want to beat the heck out of somebody who called him what you did? I guess you could get in a few punches. Maybe you'd win the fight. I didn't think that through. I'd have to see your height, weight. His rage, however, at being called what you called him would probably give him the edge. You'd be defending yourself; he'd be slamming you in anger. As far as Oz not being a "smart person" uh, ,hasn't he received job extenstions and raises in pay, since some of his outbursts? Uh, he's not in danger of being fired as long as Jerry is primary owner of the team. I'd say he's pretty darn smart. Smart enough to get raises after uttering some of the comments you say.
  3. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) I didn't know this until a little while ago when I heard it on the radio driving home from work: Apparently Jason Kendall was hitting .560 career against Scott Linebrink. If that's the case, Ozzie should have known that and should have walked Kendall in the tenth to get to the rookie Ka'Aihue who was batting around .150. I was waiting for Linebrink to face Kili who would have hit Linebrink's offering so far it still wouldn't have come down. Linebrink is the most overplayed pitcher in the history of the organized workforce.
  4. I guess you just won't believe me and I live out here. We have had MANY STORMS that didn't Topeka, Lawrence, Olathe and never hit the K. If they canceled every game where storms were coming then the Royals wouldn't have a season. Why you believe Ozzie should have played God and started Linebrink is beyond me. They started the f***ing game. You play the cards given you. It's modern baseball's fault Jackson couldn't go in the DH. It's f***ing absurd that pitcher's can't pitch the following day after merely warming up and throwing a few pitches. But that's the way it is. The fault of this matter goes to . a.) God for creating thunderstorms that knocked out power at the K. The rain actually stopped. There could have been baseball at 9:30. b.) Joe West. c.) the pussification of America. Babying pitchers and they all get hurt anyway.
  5. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) If the White Sox gain 1 game on the Twins in every 7 games they play, they will force a tie breaker. The key is they can not afford to go beyond 5 games back. The Twins are bound to come back to Earth eventually. Hopefully when they do, they will hit hard times kind of like how we did after our hot streak. The fact of the matter is. Its not over yet. Not even close. Obviously if we can continue to play ball like this we are in BIG trouble. But I truly believe this team has one more serious run in them. Call me peter positive but this team seems to come back to life when they are on the verge of extinction. I think Kenny Williams is going to add to the pen AND add a significant bat to the lineup. He knows he has to at this point. All arrows are pointed toward Manny Ramirez. If that happens, it will be a lethal injection to a struggling lineup. Isn't Manny hurt? I don't know why, but I'd just stay away from that guy. I guess he could be rejuvenated again, but he seems too Jose Guillen-ish to me. He seems to be a headcase of the first degree.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) I'm going to agree with Greg here. He's shown to make a lot of mistakes as a manager, and I don't think he should have the job anymore, but he's far from a "stupid human being". He knows more about the game than anyone here, in the overall view of things. That's a good post. I agree that in "the overall view of things" Ozzie Guillen knows a lot about the game. You can nitpick about his bunting philosophy and all that, but the man knows baseball whether some on here believe it or not. And he'd kick your ass for calling him a stupid human being if he saw you on the street.
  7. I remember hearing a guy call Les Grobstein's show one night when we were red hot and he said, "I can't see us dropping off the rest of the season." As usual, everybody got fooled during the 25-5 run. Players thought we should stand pat; KW couldn't pull the trigger except on Berkman deal that Berkman nixed and the Jackson deal which was dumb. That deal meant nothing. Pitcher for pitcher. Our leadership needed to make a couple moves, not just one, and didn't. So we sit at home in October. Sucks. It baffles me why teams are so eager to trade in the winter and can't pull the trigger during the season. It's such a marathon. We were in it at the break and made no attempt to get better.
  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) Ozzie Guillen better learn how to put a trap on his piece-of-s*** kids' mouths. Why? There's freedom of speech in this great country of ours. I welcome reading the tweets of his kids. Kenny's a big boy. It has nothing to do with the team.
  9. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) Looks like Ozzie controls his family as good as he manages the Sox. Hopefully he blurts out another sexual/racial epithet and we can just fire him. He's a stupid human being who shouldn't hold a management position for the rest of his life. A stupid human being? My god. I disagree.
  10. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Eh... I hope you're wrong. Apparently Steve Stone is saying that something big might happen this week. Hate to say it, but it's too late. Might as well ride it out with what we've got and regroup in the winter again.
  11. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) Because he constantly defends Ozzie, too? I'm not sure why everyone can't see that Ozzie has made a lot of bad managerial decisions this year. The arguments of late regarding the injuries to Putz and Thornton have me scratching my head. Regardless of the number of pitches Thornton threw, he is not a 2+ inning pitcher. I'm not saying that caused his injury, but it certainly didn't help. All in all, there is way too much sniping going on here lately. There are too many posters just waiting for someone else to post something they can argue about. Discussions and disagreements are fine, that's what makes this site fun. But to call each other stupid or clueless or other inflammatory words is getting old. Take it easy guys. Yes, our team sucks right now, but let's not take it out on each other. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) No I wouldn't. There are plenty of times games get played when people don't expect it. If our technology was so great, than why are weather men wrong quite often. The fact of the matter is, while you have info to predict, you don't know for sure what might happen and when you are told to start the game, you start it. Ozzie and every other manager in baseball would do it. At this point, you are just second guessing to second guess. I agree about the sniping. It's been a bad bad season for soxtalk message boards. As far as the weather, guys, trust me on this one. KC has had the threat of pop up storms the past month. It's been 100 every day and we are getting storms. On the last homestand we had several downpours 40 minutes from Kauffman and Kauffman ultimately got nothing. There's no way Oz can play God and predict the weather and f***ing start Linebrink because he's convinced the game will be called. Blame thje modern p**** handling of pitchers that Jackson could not be used in the DH. Don't blame Oz for starting him because he should have known there ultimately was going to be a rainout. That's just stupid in my book. The game started and we are in a part of the country where storms come and go. They are UNPREDICTABLE.
  12. Nice post, Fathom. We are five out. The race is pretty much over if it gets to 7. We got off life support once before this season; can't see it happening twice. We are down on an 8 count. Just two counts to go. If we fall seven back I hope we bring up Viciedo and Flowers and play them and give Sale some starts. Maybe even give Pena more starts and see if he's a starter. He's been a pretty mediocre reliever. Just release Linebrink. Eat the money, White Sox. We can let Kotsay's contract run out, but Linebrink should really depart.
  13. Fair analysis. But all teams are tired now. Gotta suck it up.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 04:56 AM) Which he had done before. Is it written somewhere that he'll spontaneously combust at 3 innings? I'll ask again, who should have pitched? Linebrink? I wouldn't trust Linebrink to pitch in my softball league. At that point, it was a huge game. You leave your best (and at the only time only decent) reliever in there. Starters go on 3 days rest in big games, sometimes a reliever has to step up and go. I'm just sick of the absolutes on this forum. "well if he took him out before, he doesn't get injured" "if he pinch hits there we win the game". Buncha bulls***. If Thornton doesn't throw those extra 3 devastating pitches he doesn't get hurt? Stupid. If Putz doesn't throw 2 more pitches his knee doesn't get hurt? Bulls***. Normal injuries don't f***ing work like that. If he got hit in the head with a line drive, then you could maybe say that, not if its a normal "wear and tear" injury that would have happened the next time out. Jenky Cat is becoming my idol.
  15. At least in that situation it was so late in the game you simply bunt him over, get the hit and win. Hitters are so s***ty they couldn't get the hit against a crap team.
  16. Minnie just played an amazingly clean game on TV in a shutout of the Angels. Minnie is so good with limited talent it's scary.
  17. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 02:55 AM) Oh look Kenny has a fan that has a twitter account. OneyRoberto Isn't he the guy who got fired. Oney is just trying to get even, right?
  18. I dunno. Obviously second guessing the bunt tonight is a reasonable criticism since we lost. I just think in Oz's mind it was a no brainer. Man on, tie game, bunt him over, get the hit, we go home happy unless we can't close it out. Pierre might have stole second on oldtimer Kendall. Then we bunt him to third. Oz could have taken that gamble on the steal. It's fair criticism but it's also fair to say the bunt is a decent percentage play with nobody out.
  19. at least he woke up though and got the triple today. Though after that he took an 0-fer his last four at bats.
  20. Cause there was nobody out. You bunt him over and knock him in and all is well. The second guessing starts when you don't knock him in.
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Blah blah blah, blah blah. Blah blah blah - blah blah, blah!! Blah... Blah. We could write your response to any post. Guess this topic didn't interest you. He brought up some good points and asked a few reasonable questions. Rios is off limits of criticism to many. I applaud Fathom for ripping him regularly of late.
  22. How many outs were there when Blanco stole? If Ned Yost was our manager he wouldn't last a week on here either. He'd be buried. The bunt was the right call. Execution was poor. We can't get a clutch hit on the road.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) Sweet Lou would look awesome as our skipper next season. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) I'd mark the loss today on Ozzie. He bunted us out of every inning at the end of the ballgame. Bunting with Pierre on first remains indefensible. I assume the first post was in green. The big league hitters don't get any blame for inability to get a clutch hit after bunting the guy over? Why is bunting with Pierre on first indefensible? I think most every manager not named Earl Weaver in the late innings bunt there.
  24. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 01:52 AM) I would love to hear your speech when you are carving a turkey for all the baseball players you are thankful for. *First and foremost I would like to be thankful for DeWayne* then *Dewayne smiles with fork in hand* I doubt you'd love to hear it. If you want I will list all the reasons I love Wise and Jenks. I'm afraid I might get a warning from a mod, however, if I do that. If you are serious and want me to list all the reasons I like Wise and Jenks and Dye and AJ, I'll be glad to go through it all again.
  25. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 01:30 AM) Juan Pierre is leading the damn league in stolen bases. Omar Vizquel might be one of the best bant control guys in the history of the game, and we call for a bunt EVERY SINGLE TIME. That's Ozzieball, for you. What's wrong with bunting the winning run over with nobody out in a tie game in the late innings? A: Nothing. Almost every manager would do that especially with Vizquel batting. If Pierre steals and gets thrown out you'd all want Ozzie's job for that as well.
