  1. AJ's bomb was a thing of beauty. Jackson has been amazing and was again tonight. Bpbby got the job done Pierre got 2 more hits. Good thing we are finally beating Cleveland cause Minnie keeps winning. Minnesota is f***ing 20 games over .500. We are 12 over.
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 05:35 AM) Look Greg, the Sox made a big investment in acquiring Manny in terms of money, they have him for only a month. 31 games to be exact from when he officially joined the organization. With the Sox being down 4 games to the Twins and with such a short amount of time left, it just seems logical to put out the best lineup possible. From what we have seen out of Kotsay this year, a tired Manny>>>>>>Kotsay. And really, he was just going to DH, and with already having alot of time off this year, Manny shouldve been ready to go. And for those who say "Manny doesnt take well to orders," well, hes with us for one month and he needs a new contract. Push him to play and he will, because he needs it. And if we burn a few bridges with him because of it, so what, we'll ride out the situation and say thanks ofr bein a big bat for us for a month and we can move on. Yes, we won the game, but that doesnt mean it was the SMARTEST decision. Did it pan out? Sure. That doesnt mean Ozzie put us at a disadvantage compared to the alternatives. Like somebody posted many hours ago, a lot of teams sit guys the first day they arrive. Especially traveling all day. I mean would you have preferred he play tonight and sit tomorrow, cause he probably would have done one of the two. There were good reasons for sitting Manny. We won and he'll be rested tomorrow.
  3. Why does it matter how he plays the rest of the way? You know his age and his stats and his health of this season to go on. Does one month really matter that much? Is it the same with Paulie? Would you judge whether he's worth it on the next month? You are not convinced he's worth a two year deal after this awesome season? I'm convinced Paulie is worth a two-year deal at a minimum of 7 mill per season.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 03:54 AM) You can reach correct conclusions through poor reasoning and illogical decisions. That is what I don't get. We won the game. We didn't need Manny. We have a day game after a night game. Manny is no spring chicken. Ozzie made the right call. We WON and now he's rested. Why can't some people give the manager credit for his decision? Winning the game proved it was the correct decision. When we lose, he made wrong decisions because the scoreboard says we LOST. Now, Manny, who was on a plane all day, is allegedly refreshed and ready. It's like some people think they will get an electric shock if they praise Ozzie when his moves work.
  5. Nitetrain, my sentence was poorly written but still the meaning was evident. I want us to win ever game. You can ask anybody from that season when I was in the VAST MINORITY of people who wanted the Sox to win meaningless September games. Many people were actively rooting for us to lose so we'd get a better draft pick. If you don't believe me, fine, but you are crazy. I have never rooted against the Sox and I won't despite the presence of a guy I don't want on my team.
  6. Well let me ask you this? To keep Manny would you sign him 2 years for 20 million?
  7. So would you do it? I would. 2 years 14 million. Nobody will offer him more than that. Wouldn't that be fair to both parties? I mean if you don't want him, who do you want at first? Viciedo/Teahen platoon? Paulie makes more sense than that.
  8. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 03:44 AM) I don't considering the condition of his hip. I'm assuming you want to sign him for a reasonable contract? I can't imagine any Sox fan wanting him to go away after his career, and particularly this season. He ain't finished yet. Tell me, you said he won't for two seasons? Do you think he can repeat this season or have similar numbers? If so, why would you want this all time Sox great to leave? Don't get it.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:48 AM) I am saying someone could argue that if Manny was playing over Kotsay, that we may have scored more than 4 runs, and then we would have won the game. Not saying it is the right excuse, just saying that someone would mention it. But because we won, Ozzie won't have to hear anyone say "Well, if you started Manny, you could have scored more runs". Good. I'm glad we won't have to hear anyone say that, because it doesn't matter now. We won. Now Manny is rested for the day game. Oz made the right call, again.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 03:34 AM) Thank you!! If you want a good 1B that can't hit, you can get Kotchman for 1/10th of the contract Konerko will get. You guys don't think Konerko can hit for 2 more season?? You have that little confidence in a guy having an incredible season?? I was saying "If" he didn't hit he wouldn't be a complete washout cause the guy can field. I cant imagine him suddenly sucking at the plate next year.
  11. I'm not trying to get revenge. I truly thought those were the wildest posts I saw in reading 25 pages of posts after the game. How am I going to get revenge anyway? Bobby has blown enough saves his season can be classified as only a C or C- at best. There's no way I can gain revenge. He blew too many in that one stretch for that to happen for me. I still think he's a gamer and am glad Oz called on him tonight. I still think he's a decent option out there. I do think he might be fatter than normal and that's a problem. I also still think his leaving for the family emergency seemed to kill some of his mojo.
  12. Lighten up, man! We won the game and Jenks was a big part of it. Can't you be happy for Bobby and the White Sox? I haven't posted in the winner thread yet where I'll also praise Jackson and AJP, et. all. What's wrong with posting some of the wilder posts in the thread? You act like you are damaged mentally and/or physically by reading the post. Great win.
  13. QUOTE (buckweaver @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:57 PM) Subject of "Ramirez Slept Here" signs in Boston's outfield. Suspended for performance enhancing drugs in 2009. Purposefully thrown out of his last game as a Los Angeles Dodger. Begged out of playing his first game for the Chicago White Sox because he was "too tired." Flouted the owner's "neat and presentable hair" rule by tying back his dreadlocks in lieu of getting a haircut. (the very same owner who is paying him roughly $4 million for 31...er, make that 30...games). These aren't excuses. They're souvenirs. Manny being Manny...It's black and white. So as we are now required to cheer for the laundry that includes the number 99,, I make one last reply to this thread with this message to White Sox management: Do not hold the fans hostage over the resigning of Paul Konerko to a very fair, career-ending, long-term contract this off-season. If you can afford $4 million for a "diminished skills," diminished brain, ethically bankrupt Manny Ramirez, you can certainly pay the team captain what he's worth, particularly in light of the year he's having and the career he's had in Chicago. He is the White Sox' Derek Jeter and deserves to be rewarded as such. Great post. This signing proves the Sox do have money and Paulie should get a nice 2 year contract IMO. s***, this may sound dumb, but Paulie's defense is so good even if he suddenly started to suck as a hitter he wouldn't be a complete washout. The man can field. Watching him scoop the ball is a thing of beauty. He's also pretty damn good on grounders and liners. Pay Paulie!!
  14. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:27 AM) AJ better not swing at a single pitch. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:32 AM) I'm sorry but this is hilarious, Manny just brought in 3 runs without even batting. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:38 AM) Bobby warming, god bless his arm. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:46 AM) If Bobby can't get one out...he's worthless! QUOTE (Real @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:46 AM) Bobby? Are you s***ting me? Here comes the walkoff. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:49 AM) fat f***... QUOTE (kane0730 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:49 AM) 1 pitch, 1 hit. What a joke. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:49 AM) Wow, nice hanger to start off the AB by Jenks. There's not a chance in hell Jenks should be in. I don't care if you pitch Pena or Harrell. Just thought I'd list the highlights of the game thread. I just got in and read it now. My favorite: fat f*** after Bobby gave up a hit. That last one wasn't a rip. Fathom was being nice. He was just concerned at Jenks' heavy work load of late.
  15. It kills me how in the message board world, nobody can believe that Ozzie in all his years of baseball is capable of making a right decision on this. You think maybe he's been around the game long enough to make an educated call on whether Manny should play tonight? You think maybe he knows his team and after talking to Manny, just might be capable of making the right decision? Are you guys right about everything and Ozzie wrong about every matter you disagree with him on? Wow.
  16. Now I see where you are coming from. I conveyed the message in a bad sentence. I said or meant I could give a s*** if he plays if we still win. People on here can tell you I always want to win. Those who seem to memorize my posts remember one season I was rooting for victories the last 2 weeks of the season when many wanted us to lose every game so we'd get a better draft pick. That was pretty heated discussion as well. I wanted to win every game even if it meant not getting as high a draft pick.
  17. I never said I don't care if we win. I said I don't care if Manny plays and that shouldn't matter to us beating a s*** team like Cleveland. I said if we can't beat Cleve. w/out Manny we don't deserve to win the division. What are you talking about?
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Yes. The guy who has no problem with Jenks' disgusting facial hair and Joakim Noah's wild sideshow Bob look will want Manny to cut his hair. If there are exceptions, there are exceptions. I'm just saying there should be no exceptions to whatever his rules state.
  19. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) Doesn't sound like Manny has any interest to cut the dreads. To be continued ... cowley This could get interesting. Don't the Sox have a "rule?" Isn't it Jerry's rule? I would think Mr. Reinsdorf, who was the owner of Michael Jordan's Bulls, would not want to let one man be allowed to usurp the rules. Rules must be the same for everybody. If Cowley's post is true, wonder what the Sox will do to spin this?
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) You are the King of Contradiction. What changed in those 24 minutes? Why don't you read all my posts if you are going to judge my position on every topic. I said all along I want him to lead us to wins. I said since he's a one-month rental we should use him for all we can in that regard. I may think he's a selfish bum and am not happy that he is allegedly a roider, but my position has been that I hope he leads us to the WS title. I don't want the Sox to lose just because he's one bad apple of the large roster.
  21. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) cst_sox Oz said it was his decision not to start Manny. He asked him how he felt and "I didn't like the answer he gave me." MDGonzales Oz "I don't want him to think if he goes 0 for 4 he's going to die." Hmmm. Manny did not give the right answer. Would love to know what Manny said and how he said it. Good for Oz making his decision based on the response. I wonder if Manny was being Manny with his response.
  22. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) There is absolutely nothing abnormal about a new acquisition not in the lineup the day he arrives with his new team. But you guys and the media obviously wanna make this into something it's not, so knock yourself out. If the people that are paying the guy have no problem with it why the tantrums from the fanbase? Great post.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) He's no Carl Everett! QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) Stop saying "we". You clearly are the world's worst White Sox "fan" if you don't care if we win or lose... Oh, and Manny has very good stats this year. Your posts are tiring, repetitive, and predictable. I never was a Carl Everett guy. Why am I the world's worst White Sox fan? I've followed the team a long time. When I lived in Chicago I had season tix for many years. I went to games in the old Comiskey regularly and was joined some seasons by about 5000 of my closest friends. I was there for September games when the team sucked and the stadium was empty. I'm against the Manny acquisition. What do you want me to do, lie just to be liked? I hope he leads us to the division title. Sorry that I don't think his absence in the lineup tonight if he doesn't play is a big deal. But I am not the world's worst White Sox fan.
  24. I'm in favor of him playing if he makes it to the park in time. Hopefully he'll talk Oz into it.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Over a 500 AB season...that's 20 HR and 100 RBI, and that's with plenty of time off. He's a good hitter. I'm just pointing out his presence alone doesn't mean squat in winning or losing against the Cleveland Indians. It's no travesty if he doesn't play tonight. Though I'm of the opinion since we got him, might as well play him. Why no discussion of whether he will be on the team next year?
