QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) You can thank you're wonderful manager for this acquisition because of his bone-headed decision to use Kotsay as his primary DH this season. That's quite a stretch. There are other guys KW could have acquired than this bum. I'm all for him helping the team win. I'm just glad Sox fans are keeping an open mind and not embarrassing themselves by having some catch phrase like Mannywood for his arrival. He should be treated as just another guy. I wish that WGN announcer would tell the Boston media of that story about Manny in the hotel. Maybe they'll look into it if the Chicago and LA media don't want to. It has to be untrue. No human being would do what that story alleges.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) How do you know what financial impact it has? Its $4 million that could have been spent on something more useful, perhaps earlier in the season. Manny is 38 and injured. If he could lead a team from a 4.5 game deficit all by himself, you would think he would have been in the line up this past weekend. QUOTE (That funky motion @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 07:05 PM) Got this from a certain radio announcer, from WGN who comes in my business. He said the real reason Manny got traded from the Red Sox, is because he took a dump in the middle of a hotel room, where the Red Sox where staying on the road. Apparently, he asked the maid for more towels and when she didn't leave any, he took a dump in the room. The hotel manager called Theo and the rest is history. I guess it was a 5 star hotel also!! I hope that Manny story about the dump is true because to tell such a disgusting story if not true means that WGN radio announcer is a wacked out idiot. If it is true, the media should flush that one out (ha). That story MUST be printed. If Manny did that, he truly is the most disgusting human alive, OK ONE of the most disgusting. If that story is true ... Manny is disgusting human waste. Obviously the money means something to the Dodgers. They have to be rejoicing today, getting some team to pay that bum for the rest of the season.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 07:23 AM) I must be missing something. Manny was an integral part of two World Series title teams in Boston. Almost single-handedly pushed the Dodgers to the postseason in 2008. BUT OMG, HE'S NOT A GOOD GUY! The guy has an OPS of over .900 in the limited time he's played this year. Yeah, almost 4 million to one guy for a little over a month's work isn't ideal. But how could anybody say it wouldn't be worth it if he helps us get to the playoffs? Would it be better if we just stood pat and continued to roll wit Kotsay and the all or nothing Jones? I commend Kenny, who I've been very critical of this year, for not giving up and attempting to right an obvious wrong back in March. As for steroids? GET THE f*** OVER IT! I'm stoked about this addition. It's worth the gamble. Still, he is an ass (read Passon's take on yahoo cover) and a cheater. Quitting on teammates is bulls*** and he's done it twice now. Completely horses***. But it's worth one month of the bum. Hope he can help us pick up five games on the Twins. We could have used him during the Yankee series as we faceplanted 2 of 3 at home. I'm just glad Sox fans are smart enough to embrace this guy but not LOVE him like the sheep in other cities. This is all about the White Sox not some love of a bum named Manny. Lead the team to the pennant, Manny, and earn your ridiculous salary. His stats this year have not been good.
-
Now the "weird" year continues. If we really are paying Manny 4 mill, why didn't we just sign some good free agent in the offseason? Weird weird.
-
Go read Passon's article on Yahoo. Manny is quite a bum. Great line in the article: Business must be good for White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf to flush $4.3 million down the toilet.
-
The AP story I just read said we still may have to give up a player or two as well as pay several million dollars. WTF. I'm against bringing him in, but if we are, no sense dwelling on what's done. Hopefully he can change our mojo of late and we'll play better on this road trip. He has a chance to start anew with us for this month. Hopefully it'll just be the next two months in a Sox uniform and that's it. This taken from the AP story: "The dreadlocked outfielder is batting .311 with eight homers and 40 RBIs in 66 games in 2010." That doesn't sound like a savior to me.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) I just feel like it's possibly too late, and that there will be no interested in the Sox even if we have Manny if the upcoming road stand goes poorly. The delay in this is appalling. If we wanted Manny, he shoulda been here for the big NY series and definitely hould be there when we play Cleveland, another of the teams we sleepwalk against normally. Time is of the essence to wake up this slumbering team with Mr. Moody.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 10:57 PM) it has come down to hoping the Mariners save our asses for at least one more day...lol The Sox continue to be predictable. Predictable won't cut it. Win 2 of 3 vs the O's then lose 2 of 3 at home to New York. They blow a good starting performance today. Hope the team gets hot again. Going 3-3 vs. New York and the O's at home isn't very good when you are trying to make up ground. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Is Sale ready to pitch against the Yankees in this situation? I guess we'll find out. Teahen, Kotsay...doesn't really matter, they're just average and below-average MLB players, I don't expect that much out of them. There were never reasons to believe either player should be starting on a VERY GOOD team. Teahen will be the Sox starting third baseman next year which will not be good. I'd rather convince Omar to stay another year at the age of 50. -

I'd rather see Teahen stroke a f***ing hit. We win the game if he lines a shot to the corner. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) Yep greg, he was the hero last night. Please quote one post that said as much. Read the end of the thread where I was ripping him for using that ridiculously large bat and his K to walk ratio in his career. You'd have thought I was defending Wise or Kotsay. -

I don't know why Lexi didn't slam that 2-0 pitch. What's he looking for? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) Andruw 0-3, Teahen 0-2....come on Ozzie! Teahen was a hero in the game thread last night. I was getting slammed to the ground for daring to say he's a very very mediocre to bad hitter. He of the large bat. -

Not me. There were plenty of games against the Royals and O's and Indians that cost us this season as well as the faceplants vs. the Twinks. -

Too bad Omar isn't 12 years younger. I could get used to his good glove at third base for a long time to come. I love the way he plays the position. -
Yes but we didn't acquire him as a bench player. If he had played third all year instead of good glove Omar, you could argue we'd have never been in the race. Omar has made some great plays and makes ALL the routine ones. Mark? Yikes. And KW penciled him in as everyday 3B.
-
That may be why he has only two walks in all those plate appearances, right. His career walks to strikeouts are as bad as anybody in baseball. How do you account for his lousy walk to strikeout ratio last year. He looks like a clown up there using that big bat. He took a decent number of walks in all those at bats last year?? For a non power guy?? And the point of my post was he had no chance in hell to get a hit off a good closer. None. Oh wait, he was 1-for-7 against him coming in. He had a slight prayer to get a hit. OK he's an average player. He's about 50 times better than Mark Kotsay, but I'm very pissed off he had no chance to get a hit off Rivera tonight. I laughed and called co=workers over to the TV as he approached the plate. I said he'd strike out or ground out to second. He popped to second. One Royals fan said he'd stroke a hit to left.
-
We can agree to disagree. That bat is too f***ing big for a guy like Teahen. And how come all his supporters won't comment on those stats I provided about how his strikeout to walk ratio is about as bad as it gets? The guy is a horrible fielder and a crummy hitter.
-
Don't you guys wish we'd acquired a Manny type player right after the break when we were in first place? Why do we always gotta wait so long? I know ... Berkman, Mr. DL turned down the trade.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 05:19 AM) I know what you mean. I'm wondering who are the real White Sox at this point? I've come to accept losing to the Twins is a given even if they were the worst team in baseball. Me too. I hate to be completely negative but I have to think even if we somehow got back into it, they'd take 2 of 3 from us in that final series. Weird team our Sox.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 04:28 AM) How can you blame Teahen for not getting a hit off Rivera? Seriously...how? Left handed hitters hit .198 off of Rivera throughout his career. It doesn't matter who is hitting, more likely than not, a left handed hitter will fail to get a hit 80% of the time when they face Rivera. And anybody who fails more than 80% at getting hits is a bad hitter. So Mark Teahen is not alone and you can't say he f***ed up because he couldn't get a hit off of one of the best closers of all time. You can hate on Mark Teahen, he's not a great player by any means, but saying he sucks because he can't get a hit off of Rivera is unfair. Why don't you read my posts closer to get the points I'm trying to make? I'm not going to defend myself, too much energy involved tonight after a s***ty loss.

Wow. I figured it had to be a line thrown in the water when Wise was referred to as a fellow scrub.
-
Ha. The fisherman throws out the bait.
