I don't know what they'll pay him, but if he doesn't get hurt, he'll have a job and be making enough money to pad his already bloated bank account.
  2. Yeah, fire the manager of a team in first place. He has to play Teahen if he's on the roster. I take it you don't like Oz's comment on Teahen.
  3. No, the closer is designed to save each and every game and not fail. He also should not be overweight and have a goatee. He should not walk people ever or have runners get on base. He should be perfect or move onto the next guy. A closer should pitch like Jenks did in June when he got save after save. And after those saves he should get no credit because he's just doing his job and earning the multi millions.

Somebody will pay him, unless he gets hurt. He has the same issues as always, weight being one of them. Hopefully Putz will be a good closer for the Sox or Thornton will be a good closer for the Sox.
  5. I like when players and coaches fight back against the talk show/internet world. Why should they sit there and not fight back? All people do in this era is b****. They might as well go down fighting as long as they don't cuss or act unprofessionally. Tone of voice doesn't bother me at all. What's he supposed to do? Throw Bobby under the bus? Plead for mercy for Bobby? And if Danks doesn't remind him of Viola, he doesn't remind him of Viola.

Why is bringing up Wagner blowing a save out of line to you? He did? Closers blow games. s*** happens. Jenks has blown 2 of the last 3. Yes he deserves to sit a while and closer by committee makes sense right now.
  7. Uh, they are veterans so I'm sure they realize that this is baseball and got in the chow line and snarfed down that good postgame food. Ballplayers eat after games and get in the chow line and eat. They don't f***ing sweat losses no matter how dismal they are. Ballplayers are not like internet fans who freak the s*** out. They realize baseball is a marathon season. I can't believe you guys just laugh off Wagner blowing a save. The Jenks hate slays me. Some people act like every time he's gone out there it's been like a Little Leaguer out there. Do you remember the stretch when the team was HOT as hell and he was getting save after save after save? And I shut up and not a peep out of the Jenks haters who just expect save after save. Hilarity. The guy was excellent during our surge and he's sucked since the family emergency and to me he actually does look fatter than normal. That is up for debate. Some people act like Quentin sits in a chair in right field and just watches everything hit out there fall and some act like Jenks has NEVER been good this year. It makes me laugh.

How do you guys explain Wagner blowing a 2 run lead tonight? What closers are automatic these days? Tell me those closers.
  9. Billy Wagner blew a 2 run lead tonight. Blown save. Yeah, closers are automatic ... not.

Some of you guys slay me. Ever heard of battling through adversity. And somebody said he hasn't been good in five years??? WTF. I said after he returned from the family crisis we could have closer by committee a while and it wouldn't bother me but it would require Oz having a feel on who to use on a given night. After blowing the save the other day and giving up some shots yesterday that were gobbled up by Omar and Lexi, I would have not balked at Putz or Matt tonight. I hope our other closers are automatic, but I am afraid you are going to find out that all closers blow saves once in a while. I still support Bobby.
  11. greg775 replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We've got two other guys in Putz and Thornton who can be nasty, so I am not against closer by committee. I don't know why that's such a dirty word in baseball. Bobby doesn't have to close every save situation, but tradition dictates he must.
  12. Sounding like the Randy Quaid fan of the Indians in Major League. If Lexi is the age he's listed at, he could easily be our shortstop for 10 years or more.
  13. greg775 replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is bad giving up a single and falling behind hitters and still getting the save? Some people freak out in that exact scenario. I'm over it. I'm aware some people just hate fat Bobby. The guy has had a very good season as a closer and many say he hasn't so we disagree. I've seen the venom. Many Internet Sox fans hate fat Bobby. Fine. I like fat Bobby.
  14. greg775 replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oh I think a lot hate Jenks no matter what. They simply tolerate him when he gets the save. So I am the opposite and support him.
  15. I'm still waiting for you to tell me who you like in baseball? A Rod? Pujols? Is there a perfect player? Alexei starts horribly. He is playing f***ing great baseball right now. As he continues to age can he actually work on starting out of the gate better? Can he figure out a way to not completely suck in April/May? Hopefully. It is possible. Not everybody is a f***ing finished product. Who do you want to be our shortstop the next 10 years?
  16. greg775 replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Let's face it, some people are going to hate Jenks no matter what. Very few of us love him no matter what. I think he's been a very good baseball player for the White Sox and remains a very good closer. I think my statement is WAY closer to reality than those who say he sucks and want to have his arm fall off like one guy said after he blew the last save.
  17. Yeah, I'd agree. I was wrong on Oldmar. Man he was picking them tonight and thrilling Hawk in the process. Hawk was going wild.
  18. greg775 replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hate it as well. It's the nature of being a closer and being chubby/fat. People don't like Bobby. I do. I think he's been excellent and was glad to see him do well tonight. He threw strikes for the most part and our third baseman and shortstop were great behind him.
  19. I may change my mind tomorrow, but I could live with Jones playing right field and CQ DHing the rest of the way. Jones is a better option than Kotsay in the lineup (I think).
  20. Interesting line in that horrible piece. Yes, the manager always gets the blame in 2010.
  21. Are you guys worried? I keep hearing on the radio here the Royals are gonna trade DeJesus and soon. KW will vastly overpay for just a good ballplayer who is not excellent. Are you worried?
  22. I agree KW should not go all in. We are pretty much overachieving right now. We need Dayan/Beckham/Flowers/Hudson for the future. Without Peavy, like you said, I'd rather just take our chances. s***, I hate Jones, but play him every day (did I say that?) and maybe he'll hit 10-15 homers the rest of the way while whiffing at all the other at bats. I keep hearing DeJesus is gonna get dealt, so look for us to overpay for him. Yuk.
  23. In answer to your question, Yes yes yes Kenny should dare to consider the trade. Dump that salary. We don't need Mark Teahen. Detroit is not going to win the division. Minnie will win it if we don't. Dump Teahen on the Tigers. Now!
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) I think a lot of what is going on right now is just posturing. The big demand from Rizzo on Dunn could come down in the final days. Kenny will do something, and I don't think he'll do anything that would be considered overpaying. Yeah but trading Dayan and/or Flowers and Hudson might be depressing.
  25. I stand by what Greg Hibbard wrote.
