Why is Jenks such a low value closer aside from Soxtalk people undervaluing their own again?

HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I always was and remain a great table top hockey player. My ability to pass the puck from the wing back to the defensemen and pop it ahead into the goal ... and control the puck while using all the knobs was legendary on the south side. I also liked flipping it quickly from defenseman to defenseman, passing it to a wing, have the wing whack it around the goal, the other wing nab it, pass to the charging center who rammed it in the goal. Fun game. -
He passed the eye test for me a couple weeks ago. I saw him in the flesh go 4-5 and whack a homer to right and smash two off the wall in left. What a concept. Hit it where it is pitched.

Great post, Dick Allen ... again. Whoever said hockey is boring ... why would you say that? There are not the incessant time outs. The game moves. When it starts to get dull with the dumping of the puck, you don't usually have to wait long for a vicious hit. I also congratulate all the die-hard Hawks fans. I was a HUGE fan as a child and til the start of college; then a nothing fan. Now, yes one of those fans who only starts to pay attention when it looks like we have a good team brewing. Been watching the playoffs all the way through and I've been IMPRESSED. Go Hawks. How has Hawks' other goalie handled not being the guy the Hawks have gone to? Has anybody interviewed him? -
Yes. What would it take to get him? Now that's the kind of hitter to excite the masses heading into the future.

Caufield, send me a pm if you can describing your experiences teaching English in China. I know somebody who wants to do that. I know you like to write long so it shouldn't be a problem (little joke). Please include how you got hooked up, what city you are in, what you think of the experience, what experience you need to go over there, what age range they are looking for in teachers, whether you had any teaching experience before, how they are treating you and of course ... have you met any decemt women to date out there? Thanks, sir. Today's loss had to be one of the worst of the season BTW. After winning 2 in a row vs. this team and looking like a team with a clue, this crap hits the fan again. Wow. -
Sox should do anything to get that lefthanded hitting first baseman playing for Toronto's AAA team -- guy they got in the Halladay deal. I forget his name but he is f***ing awesome and he's a young lefthanded hitter! You'd think the Sox could dangle Jenks in front of some teams that need a closer. Despite what people on this board think, he's still able to produce. And what's with Beckham making out after out? Sophomore jinx? This is getting ridiculous. Two months of hell for Gordon Beckham.

A line in the Tribune story. Another reason for KW to think about unloading salary as this team continues to struggle heading into June.

I agree. Had a chance to start a mini winning streak, predictably play like a bad team after two wins. If you tell me we will win the next six series, then I'll say today was OK and at least we won the series. Don't know if you can tell me that without laughing, though. -

I just thought you are getting caught up in what we have to do to catch teams when this team has yet to prove worthy of worrying about that. Until the team puts together 3 weeks of great baseball it's not worth talking about what we need to do to catch Minnie/Detroit IMO. -

I don't forget. Jenks has been a great closer for the Sox. -

Who cares right now? We've played horses*** all season and looked like anything but a contender for the postseason. I for one am just gonna see what happens. -

As Hawk would say, what you just said is a STRETCH. -
What buzzkill. Beckham rocks! That's the kind of pitching we expected 2 days in a row. Nice job Sox. As much s*** as Bobby takes around here, he's not that bad, folks. Can the Sox keep the killer instinct and win 3 in a row vs. this NL team? Cmon Sox. Go for the jugular. Prove you aren't allergic to win streaks.

Volstad sucks. Does that mean we're doomed today? -
Beckham another 0-fer tonight but we win 8-0. Maybe he'll be the hero Saturday. He's 1 for his last 13 now and five for his last 40. That has got to be humbling as we storm toward June.

As much b****ing as people do about Oz's lineups ... I would say today's lineup should be the one we go with against all righthanders unless you want to flop Nix for Teahen. Comment on today's lineup vs. righties please. I would go with this one every single game (though I could be convinced Jones should play some over Kotsay and Nix some over Teahen). AJ probably should remain in the 2 hole against righty starters only because he's a veteran and may embrace it. He's not done too bad up there it seems to me. Not sure what the optimal lineup would be against a lefty starter but I "like" this one against righties. -

Thanks steve, i was too lazy to google it. 1961. That is WAY too long for a great city like Chicago. Blackhawks need to ride the homecourt frenzy to a victory tonight. Seems to me the Final Four teams are moderately equal, but the winner of this series is a solid favorite to take the Cup. -

On paper, that's not a horrible lineup. Get rid of Kotsay for a real DH and get Teahen out of there for a real major league starter and ON PAPER, that really is not too bad a lineup. I'm not big on Pierre, but he is doing fine in May. -

Obviously I'd take the Hawks over anything else right now, incuding LeBron. The stars are aligning right for our first title since the 60s, right? Did the Hawks win it once in the Kennedy administration? That said, how are the Chicago papers playing this, if any of you read a hard copy newspaper anymore? Do the Hawks get the main front page headlines over baseball when they play a playoff game? They better. -
I liked Walt, too. One summer I even started batting the way he preached in softball. Good way to hit hard grounders.
-
How bout a winning streak? Sox don't believe in those. Did we have one over six games last year? I would doubt it.

I like hockey a lot. I went to games as a kid all the time with my dad. I loved Bobby Hull, Mikita, Nesterenko, Magnuson, DeJardins, Esposito, et. all. Moved away and didn't follow them as much during the dead years. I played hockey, love hockey. The question is a fun one. Sorry.
