  1. Do you think the Hawks will take care of business before a loud crowd in game three or do you sense some life in San Jose? Logic would suggest we do the job at home after kicking their ass in their own building. Just wondered what you thought the odds are of the Hawks going up 3 games to 0. Q: Which would you take if offered? Let's say the gods guaranteed you that if the Hawks dropped the next four games the Sox would rebound and make the playoffs. Would you take that deal in a second? Or are you a big enough hockey fan you'd want the Hawks to win the series if it meant the Sox continue to spiral downward the rest of the year?
  2. It's a curse. It's like we were meant to cut the gap to one run with four outs to go, then go down meekly the final four outs.
  3. Well said, How could anybody argue with that? Isn't it amazing how in the last 2 years we never have had a significant winning streak? Even if we started playing winning baseball, it'd take us to the all-star break probably just to reach .500.
  4. Yeah, but wasn't Pierre ready to scoot home? If it kicks off the wall, it's happy days are here again, baby. Instead, it's eight below .500 and another crappy lost series.
  5. Jones is down to .230 and change I believe. I can't believe anybody would want him No. 1, and No. 2 what do we expect to get if somebody did take him? I mean be serious. The Cards may want him, but what would they give up? Some guy with no chance at sniffing the bigs I'd guess wouldn't you?
  6. OK, thanks. For whatever reason, teams do usually have a good stretch after the manager is fired.
  7. It's pretty different (and bad) to feel no emotion when we lose. I think almost all of us diehard fans knew despite the great rally we'd fall one-run short thanks to the bad luck on the GR double. With the luck of the Sox, no way there'd be a rally in the ninth even tho we were just one down. Who'd a thunk Jake Peavy would be just another guy on the mound as well? Weird. May ain't looking so good except for Juan Pierre's batting average climbing.
  8. I knew I was setting myself up for that by mentioning Yost's early success.
  9. You don't honestly think we can get anything for Jones, do you? He's not a regular on any team but ours and maybe the Nats. You get maybe a Class A guy if for some reason anybody wanted Jones.
  10. Who would you compare Peavy and his 5.7 ERA to right now? Not flaming, just asking. He's definitely getting hit. Who has Jake Peavy become? Once again, Sox play well enough to lose. We gots a last place team here, folks. KC is hot under Yost.
  11. Isn't Nix acceptable at 2B? He's not that big a butcher there is he?
  12. I hated that argument that Frank walked too much. That was absurd and I remember hating it when people blasted him for that. As far as trade value, cmon, Jones has no trade value. Omar has no trade value. Teahen no trade value. Even though Rios is doing well, nobody is going to want that contract. Our starters have a lot of trade value, no matter how much they are making. I would think Bobby has some trade value, but just for 3 prospects from somebody who desperately needs a closer. We're dreaming if we think guys like Kotsay, Jones, Teahen, Pierre have any trade value.
  13. Beckham looked relaxed on that deep drive to right center that got caught. He looked relaxed but horrific on that tapper to the mound. Poor Beckham. A good hitter gets hits three of 10 at bats. That's not many. When he does hit the ball hard it never finds a hole this year. Well they tried the team meeting thing. And we lose. There's not much left to do. The only thing left is Oz turning over the dinner table in the locker room some night and I don't think he's done that yet in his tenure, has he? The going ballistic thing I am thinking is not Ozzie's thing. Where's Peavy in all this? I thought he was Mr. Intense. Could he erupt and cause a good scene in the locker room? Paulie has never been one to call anybody out or knock over tables of food. and how bout murphy's law. he plays nix instead of the sieve teahen and nix makes the poor throw. woe is us.
  14. Tonight's game is another reason we ain't catching anybody. We'll battle the Royals for the bottom slot in the division. Nix's error ... we play just well enough to lose. That was key. The CQ and Lexi choke at bats in the ninth. We play just well enough to lose. I will give some credit to Pierre. He's resembling an actual big league player the past couple weeks and is much less hate-able.
  15. I thought I did a good job of countering his point that the Sox haven't moved on since the title. They've gotten rid of a ton of players from that team. He said they haven't moved on at all. I said they have a lot. As far as the manager, you know where I stand on him.
  16. I wouldn't say they stuck with everybody. Dye, Thome, Crede, Uribe, Pods, Garland, Contreras, et. all, there are others are long gone. Most teams probably would have fired the batting coach by now. I doubt teams with similar postseason history as Chicago would have fired the manager by now.
  17. TCQ one day might get it, but he seems too jittery. I wonder if he'll ever be calm at the plate and drive the ball like Paulie. Didn't it take Paulie a few years to figure it out before he became an ultra stud? Beckham ... who'd a thunk it.
  18. Yeah I guess that makes sense. It's crazy how tough it is to hit a baseball where the fielders ain't. Beckham just is a wreck and one at bat tonight he raked one to right field. Right in outfielders mitt. Not talking about Danks right now, but what if a prospect that was 20 was just raking the ball to all fields and not striking out much and excelling all over? He still wouldn't have a chance to get called up, whereas in basketball that guy would be on an NBA roster making zillions. I understand what yu are saying though.
  19. Amen. Anybody who mentions anything negative about Danks tonight is simply off base. My god.
  20. I watched the last inning or so. Sox had their chances. 3-2 with man on base. CQ pops up to center and Lexi with the pathetic whiff. That one pitch was a meatball that he fouled off. The pitch he struck out on? Who knows, but he was overmatched. Same old story. No offense. Teams should never lose at home when they get pitching like that. Only the White Sox. This time Nix with the horrific defensive play. And no hitting. 90 losses or more? It's almost June and CQ and Lexi fail at the plate. No excuses for them. Bad baseball you two.
  21. How many significant trades have been made before June in modern baseball history? Not flaming would just like to be educated on that. I guess if some team thought they just had to have one of our guys they'd be smart to make offers early. I can't imagine there being any hurry to get any of these guys except maybe Mark or Konerko. Do the Phils need a closer? Maybe they would make a call about Jenks.
  22. It's wild how much different baseball is from the NBA. The NBA soon wll be drafting college freshmen (they'd be taking a s***load of high schoolers if they could) with NO minor league system in place for these 18 to 20 year olds. All these high draft picks will be expected to produce immediately in the NBA or be deemed busts. In baseball you have to play minor league ball for many years if you are a high schooler or college aged guy. Very interesting to me how baseball players have to be groomed and never rushed compared to NBA types salivating over drafting guys totally not ready for prime time. Yet there's no minor league for them except the D-League which is a joke, pretty much for non prospects and a place where top draft picks might play a few games a year. I mean, why can't Hudson, Danks, Viciedo play in the bigs now? It's the same ball and bat.
  23. I include radio shows as the radical fringe. What Sunday sports shows? Both also generally tend to be the Mariotti-ish fire everybody, play the backup quarterback, run the offensive coordinator out of town. They are not representative of the regular fan. I think I know somebody in the business said 3 percent of all radio talk show listeners call in. It's like this board. Whoopie. We have the voice of 25 fans on here? How many post regularly? 20 or so who bleed over every pitch. Not even 12,000 to 15,000 which would constitute a bad crowd at the Cell. But if the whole city wants Ozzie fired then I guess the mob mentality wins over. Times certainly have changed quickly when most everybody is happy Beckham is batting ninth.
  24. We're stuck with Teahen's contract. Nobody will ever want him. He's too mediocre. Same with Juan. Linebrink too. Somebody would trade for Bobby and AJ and Paulie of course.
  25. You are correct caufield. No need no more.
