  1. I meant to say in a court of law they could argue no way he'd be worth 18 mill next year. Why would the team automatically lose such a lawsuit?
  2. This thread served as bad luck. We've dropped another game to them in the loss column since it was started and they haven't lost since it was started. I'm still trying to figure out how one season can go down the drain on one roadtrip. I hope we have no obvious losing roadtrips like that 10 gamer next year. It was patently unfair. No team in the Central is going to win at NY and boston that time of year and making us go to Minnie added insult to injury.
  3. I'd rather see Jake than Torres. I bet you if we were mathematically eliminated, we wouldn't see Peavy this year. It's probably a way to say we haven't given up and it might add some fans in the stands, too. I just hope he doesn't get hurt in a meaningless outing or two.
  4. I believe you, southsider, but if the clause is he has to reach a certain number of at bats, why couldn't the team go to court and in its defense say, 'Yes, your honor, we decided to not play him so we wouldn't have to pay him 18 million next year. We feel that is our right as an organization, that's why we put that in the contract." I just wonder why it would be a no brainer for the player to win over the team. The stats prove he's not worth 18 mill.
  5. Because the season is almost over. Those other guys have been playing every day. This guy has been out most of the year. It just seems stupid to me to trot him out there 5 innings in one or two starts if we can't win the division. If you tell me we still are in the race, fine, I guess. I for one am not counting on what would be probably the greatest comeback of all time. We're running out of games and I just see no reason to pitch him. I guess I'm in the vast minority. I'd rather have him come back in the spring and earn the opening day start, etc., in what most feel could be a much better year for our team.
  6. I'm already looking forward to spring training while doing the normal things in life today. I do think something has to give next year. If we are mediocre to sub .500 again, I wonder if Jerry will have to let Oz go. I love Oz, but our team is passionless or at least appears to be. I hope our rotation kicks ass, our bullpen becomes serviceable, and Oz is here a long time.
  7. Do you guys see any rational reason Peavy pitches again this season? We're seven back in the loss column again. What would it prove? He's our No. 1 next season. Great. Let him rest up. What good does it do for anybody to have him pitch? I don't get it. He'll probably sell more tickets with the mystery of Peavy still out there. I really really hope he doesn't get hurt during his start or two.
  8. Oz says a lot of stuff, Los. Recently he took all the blame, remember? He said the season was his fault. He just is one of those guys who doesn't shut up. I kind of like him for it. Really, in this PC age, what other manager says the kind of s*** Ozzie does? Maybe Piniella once in a while? Most of them are boing PC machines.
  9. Would it really? Why can't they sit whoever they want to sit? 18 million is a ridiculous sum for Maggs.
  10. If we did win the division, those of you who never gave up would be nominated for fans of the year and probably let us nonbelievers have it.
  11. I thought Tizzle's post was excellent. I am trying to not make any new comments about Mr. Rios, just praise those comments I agree with.
  12. I'm sure we Rios haters won't mind if you call out the rest of the slumbering hitters. Let's face it. It's been a very very frustrating season. Sox don't deserve to be in the playoffs. Can we all agree on that?
  13. Has Magglio gotten the needed at bats?
  14. I wouldn't blame Walker or Oz for neglect. I would suspect you wouldn't want to mess with a new guy right away, except making sure he has tapes and all the extra hitting at his disposal. He might kick ass vs. Detroit. I hope if we get it close Oz doesn't bench him during those games. Baseball's a wacky game. He might explode in the head to head games vs. the Tigers. Maybe not, but it would be a chance for some redemption for Rios. At least let him play in the first two vs. the Tigers and see if he has anything to offer vs. Detroiit.
  15. True, but Jerry is a fan as well as owner and the moves at the time were seen as getting us over the top this year. Go back and read all the quotes and media columns, etc. Sure it in theory sets the team up for the future, but Jerry might be mad that we didn't make any moves that helped this year. That said, he likes Oz and KW and isn't going to fire anybody over it. If somehow we get within 4 games or so, who knows? Rios might be saving his hits for the six Detroit games. He'll be due that's for sure.
  16. I haven't whined the entire season, just since the O's and Royals series at the Cell. No, I'd feel moderately confident if we were 3 out in the loss column at this stage of September.
  17. It would definitely be exciting to see Detroit continue staggering and the Sox sneak in. I just wish were were a tad bit closer.
  18. Fair enough. But sometimes when new threads are started or somebody makes a comment, it makes me want to respond and I guess I repeat myself. I will say he will benefit from the day he gets a fresh start with a .000 batting average. He probably would even be a candidate to have a good to great postseason if we made it because he'd be so happy he was starting anew. I think there's even a chance he'll rebound next year. I like him more than Swisher because at least Rios can glide after balls in the outfield. I will try to stop commenting on Rios but he seems like a hot topic still.
  19. Just think if we'd continued our .500 ways on that road trip from hell. I'd be excited if we were 2 out in loss column. We're still in the miracle stages, folks. We're way behind in the loss column. It'd be one of the biggest chokes in baseball history if Detroit folded. We need to win this series. We haven't even won a series in a while.
  20. I agree, but haven't we refused to sign some outfielders in the past because they wanted too much money? Why did we have to have Rios?? I've said over and over I'll give him a chance again next spring. There are players I defend a lot, players who get ripped by others. I happen to blast Rios and Pena. Why not get on those who blast some of the other guys.
  21. I like Thornton, but he can be wild some nights and ineffective some nights. Don't know if I'd like to go into the season w/out Bobby.
  22. I still don't know what the big deal is about getting him one or two starts this season. With the way our season has gone, he'll probably screw up his arm. Why the urge to pitch him once or twice? I guess we're clinging to the hope we can sweep Detroit.
  23. Old Sox, what a great post. I think it describes this situation perfectly.
  24. Main problems on team of late (during period we fell out of contention) 1.) Bullpen. 2.) Dye/Rios being automatic outs in lineup. 3.) As hyped as our starting pitching is, still inconsistent. Am I forgetting something more obvious?
  25. You'll never convince me Rios and Peavy were not also for THIS YEAR. We were in the race when we got Rios and EVERYBODY was excited that he'd be something we really needed. And with Peavy if we could make the playoffs, squeak in, our rotation would all be set up. Why would it only be for next year if we were right in the thick of the Central race and would have as good a chance as anybody in the playoffs to win it now?? It was for this year as well. Go back and read all the stories and all the fan comments. People were juiced for now. Our rotation would be unstoppable in a short series.
