Gas how old are you? I hope you are an innocent kid 16 or younger cause I was the same way when I was in high school. I'd never give up. How can you watch tonight's game and still have any hope? How many nights have we had a chance to pick up ground on Detroit and failed? Tons. We are roadkill. It could be worse, though. Lots of teams are worse than .500ish.

Man, you are something. Sox spew a total horses*** game with both the Twins and Tigers losing. Sox have absolutely no chance. Sox need to regroup for next year, sir. Your enthusiasm is to be commended, though.

Sox are road kill at this point of the season. Wow, how bad was that effort? Pop ups galore at the plate; horrible at bats up and down the order. Awful stuff.

I really don't understand your position. In my world, Paulie has been a great player and last year didn't deserve the bashing. He came back nicely this year and may in fact finish with 30 HRs. Same for Dye. His track record I'd think makes it easier to not bash him. For me, it's much easier to bash a guy like Rios for making out after out after out and not blaming Oz for "not giving him regular playing time." Pleeeeeze. You didn't say that, but somebody did. I mean if Rios had hit a home run there I'd have applauded his ass. He didn't. He DPed again.

My point is that some people are roasted on Sox talk. Some aren't as much. Like Paulie last year. Was bashed incredibly on here, yet some have nothing negative to say bout Rios.

I hope he'll be fine in 2010. You'd think the law of averages would make him get a big hit, like in his last at bat. If he launches a home run, he maybe has us on our way to a huge win. But every at bat seems to be the same. Maybe he'll turn it around when we play the Tigers or something. At this point he should try not to get a hit and maybe he'll pound a double.

It's weird how it's OK to pounce on some players (Wise) and not OK to pounce on others (Rios). I would never boo Rios from the stands BTW. I don't boo players. But he deserves some venom on here.

Hope the Sox don't let his contract handicap us in the offseason. Just add that 60 mill to the payroll, Jerry. Raise ticket prices again, right?

Rios is in one of the biggest non pitcher slumps in history. Isn't he like 4 for 52? Yikes.

Why don't we advance runners? Inexcusable by CQ.

Dye, Quentin, Rios near the bottom of the order. That's unusual in the big leagues though understandable. Dye and Rios have been utterly pathetic and CQ not exactly a solid producer either.

2009 AL Central Thread
Are the Tigers giving Magglio his 20 at bats for the 18 mill option to kick in? I could see that as a polarizing issue if they are droppng games just to not play Maggs. How the hell did he get a contract with an 18 mill option that kicks in if he gets so many at bats?? 18 mill? My god.

You said it all: The grass is always greener with other team's players. If Pods could do this next year (and not get picked off base) I'd want him back in a heartbeat to be our leadoff hitter. DeJesus? Michael Bourne? Give me a break. Better yet, give me Pods if he puts up similar numbers.
-
Octavio Dotel
Pods has been a real good leadoff hitter this year. He's way better than DeJesus. Way better.

Octavio Dotel
If you think Randy Winn is a better option that Pods, then we agree to disagree. Winn is also old, older than Pods and yet you are giving him the benefit of the doubt that he'll rebound and have a better year and assume Pods will decline. Don't get it. But you have your opinion and I have mine. That's cool.

Why did we trade Nick Swisher?
Great point. And my political view of him will never change. One of my least favorite Sox of all time. Hate everything about what he did in his time in Chicago.

Seattle isn't that bad a team. The Ms got a better record than we do and are 39-30 at home. LA is 42-26 at home. To make up the kind of ground the Sox have to make up, they'll have to play VERY WELL on the road after the 2-8 trip. The Sox won't get by playing the kind of game they played in those 2 games vs. Oakland. We went 1-6 vs. NY and Boston combined. Then 1-2 versus Minnie. How will we do against good West teams??

I just don't understand this. Pods has been incredible as our leadoff man. Randy Winn?? Why are we assuming Pods will be noticeable worse next season? We complain about the way some of our hitters hit. Pods uses all fields, has been spraying the ball all over. He's stole some bases. The only negatives are his getting picked off a lot and his defense in center. Why not let him play left and CQ right as there's probably a good chance Dye becomes DH if we keep him around?

Can we fare better on the West coast than we did on the East on that last road trip? The hope is we play to our competition this time. If we plan on making it interesting we really need to sweep the Angels and that will be near impossible unless our starting pitching is lights out. The crazy thing is Detroit is not an intimidating team. That would be cool if the Tigers started to tank.

Stick a fork in Dye
Either did Harold. Some guys are stoic. Geez.

Clayton Richard
No. 4 starter? He's better than that on this staff. Our rotation should be this way and balanced: Peavy, Mark, Floyd, Danks, Freddy if he doesn't get fat this offseason and has a good spring. If not, Hudson.

Joe Crede Possibly Retiring
I just don't agree with you sayinghe was not a GOOD player. What are your standards? The guy was a good player at the minimum. I would say he was a great fielder, no question and at the very least a good hitter. And by all accounts a good to great teammate. It's not his fault his back has ended his career prematurely. I don't understand you saying he was not a good player. I disagree.

Twins certainly don't have the "it" factor this year, either. They have really been mediocre.

Everbody's been clamoring for a leadoff man on our team with some speed. We have arguably one of the best in baseball right now (the way he played this year) yet we are not crazy about bringing Pods back. It's so easy to take your own players for granted. If Pods is healthy, he ain't done yet. And we have youth in the minors to replace him if for some reason he pulls a Rios.
-
Stick a fork in Dye
It's funny how some people say there's no way you can bring Dye back, yet they immediately want to give a second chance to guys like Rios, Swisher, saying it was just an off year. Dye obviously is hurt. You know it. I know it. Bring him back.
