  1. I haven't read all the threads but what young guys are you talking about playing? Guys from our s*** farm system? Trading some of our old guys for young guys? KW is doing a pretty nice job as our GM. I want him to try to keep the team competitive and not sacrifice a couple years. The Royals spout this BS every year and suck every year except when they play us.
  2. I thought your post was OK til that line Milkman. Cmon you can't be a Masset fan.
  3. Ginger Kid, you said it all. That is the truth.
  4. Sure there's reason for optimism and great opening post, but the Twinks are so good at home you gotta figure they'll win a massive majority of those home games. We're simply going to have to play great baseball and obviously suck it up when we go to Minnie the next time. One at a time baby. C'mon Sox you have a good season going, make it a great one.
  5. Wow. Swisher. I'll never blast him again. I'll shut the f*** up if he for some reason frustrates me in the future. That hit says a lot about the guy, considering his playing time figures to be limited some with the Griffey acquisition. Can you image how deflating that loss would have been? Not scoring in the bottom of the ninth, 10th, 11th, et. all. Then we win it with a 4 spot??? Which one of you posters never gave up in the game thread? I thought it was OVA after Det's two spot off Thornton. Beers to those of you who kept the faith.
  6. How the hell did Swish do it? Congrats to him. It says something about him. That loss would have been so deflating. Great great job by many hitters in the 14th. Can you imagine not scoring for all those innings when we coulda won it then a 4 spot??? Congrats Cora and all of you Sox.
  7. Congratulations to those of yu who hadn't given up. My fricking god. I will never rip Swisher again. I'm serious. He can suck all year. He proved something with that blast. No matter what happens this season, what happened in the 14th inning this morning is legendary.
  8. I wonder if Detroit will plate more this inning?
  9. I feel the pain of you who have suffered through this one. Why make the great comeback to not put them away in the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, etc? Sad.
  10. Explain to me how we could not plate a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on? I just logged on and haven't heard about the game but WOW. That's not good.
  11. They have all age group leagues in KC, too bad you don't live around here. 50 and 60 year olds have leagues. I wouldn't want to play again at this point in time. As a kid, however, in answer to your question. On 103rd and Homan we had many options all w/out parents getting in the way. We'd play on the corner where there were four sewer lids as the bases. Had to use a whiffle ball however. No homeowners got mad at us for running on their lawns if we had to to get the ball. At McGreenwood School we could play with a rubber ball using the wall of the school as a catcher/backstop. Kids could paint (with chalk) in the batters box for strike zone. If you hit too deep a homer it'd go on somebody's lawn but their windows weren't in danger, nobody got mad if you had to go through their bushes to get the ball. Mt. Greenwood LL, our manager would let us take two bats and some balls after practice to play pickup games you described. Often not enough players, so no hitting to the opposite field. No parents getting in the way. Nobody got kidnapped; nobody got approached by any kooks, the fears of parents nowadays. And yes a lot of kids got bloodied and had to run home. Parents tended to the scrapes and sometimes took 'em to hospital for stitches. Nobody died and kids learned baseball. Little League Baseball game: Yes the 10 year olds sat. Most played as 11 year olds. Everybody played every inning as a 12 year old. Nobody b****ed about playing time. Few parents even attended the games on the Southside. Just as the kids wanted it. No parents on hand. In Babe Ruth League had to earn your spot no matter your age, 13, 14 or 15. Times have changed. Too bad for today's kids who can't play pickup baseball, basketball and hockey as we did w/out parents getting in the way out of fear their little Johnnys will get kidnaped or hurt. Kids back in the day left their homes in the early morning, drove bikes to the park or corners or school to play ball, returned for lunch, went out again, came home for dinner, went out again til nightfall and returned home. Not one murder or scandal as a result; just healthy kids. Not one of 'em fat.
  12. If you had to be your life savings on an opposing batter smashing a hit against one of these Sox pitchers who would you pick to give up the immediate meatball? This is assuming the lefty pitcher faces a righty and the righty pitcher faces a lefty. a.) Boone Logan. b.) Wasserman. c.) Clayton. d.) Jose. I think it's a tough choice, but I'd go with Boone giving up the immediate hit.
  13. I wouldn't blast on the reporters. They realize a good story when they see/hear one and Ozzie always is good copy. They'd be fired if they ignored the stuff he puts out there.
  14. Is this for contributions only as a Sox? It's Frank if it's only as a Sox; Griffey or Tom Seaver or Fisk if it's combined performances with all teams. Would Griffey beat out Seaver? Didn't Seaver win 300 games?
  15. Great point, Jake, but obviously Oz will be calling the shots in the games, at least as far as the starting lineups. I wonder if there will be a runner to the clubhouse to relay Oz messages to Cora or if Oz will let Cora manage. Maybe he'll let him make the decisions in game. I wonder how that works. I know he's suspended but does he let Cora make the moves during the game or does Oz relay decisions to Cora? JFields ... I said that stuff about Oz thinking he's a stiff also from his comments about Juan being a much better fielder.
  16. I love Crede, but I'd have to agree. I think we all are in agreement his back problems of late come as no surprise. I mean my god, how much does a baseball player use his back? An infielder is always bent over and all those swings they take in BP as well as the games how the heck can a guy with serious back surgery ever completely have a healthy back again? I can't imagine any team giving him a long term deal ever again. They'd have to be crazy to do so. I love Joe, but I would imagine it's one year deals for him with incentives for games played from now on, wouldn't you all?
  17. It's hilarious how Oz obviously thinks Fields is a stiff. The fact he's gone to Juan means Fields' days in Chicago are numbered as long as Oz is skipper. Fields is in the same class as BA when it comes to Oz's opinion of the duo.
  18. Those quotes from Oz praising Uribe's defense over Josh were pretty telling. It's pretty obvious if it wasn't before Oz thinks Fields is a hack. I'd say his days as a Sox are numbered as well at least if Oz is skipper.
  19. How dare Ozzie order a pitcher to throw a ball at a hitter? Doesn't he know the ball is a lethal weapon? The Blizzard of Oz should be fired now. Put him out of his misery. He is a dangerous man. He's actually pscho. The poor fans of the South Side are so sick of this guy. Just fire him. Oops, I just wrote Moronotti's column for him. Other managers should have Ozzie's back and admit they have ordered pitchers to hit batters. It's part of the game. But no ... they'll all shut up and Oz is the victim. Even though the Royals' skipper has had his pitchers hitting Sox batters all season in an attempt to get his team to start playing competitive ball against us.
  20. Twins are amazing. Always amazing til they get to the playoffs. They are so hot it is unbelievable.
  21. Where's the love for George Brett? I saw him whack a ball off the right field upper deck facade on the first pitch of a game at Comiskey one year. The Royals got four runs in the first inning thanks in part to Alan Bannister throwing the ball over Jim Spencer's head into the stands. The Sox got five in the first before a full house and won a memorable thriller. George Brett was a great great hitter and would have been great in Comiskey playing with his brother, Ken.
  22. Exactly. He may not be finished forever, but it's up to him to gain from this experience. It has to be a rude awakening for some of these guys when they get beat up. He needs to build on that game where he pitched four plus scoreless innings before he got shelled. Hopefully Jose will dominate the second half.
  23. Robertson is another guy eminently hittable. After a day off, I hope we hit him. Pitching and defense must improve or we ain't gonna beat anybody. If it improves we can beat anybody.
  24. Brett was damn good in his prime and after his prime. George Brett was a difference maker. We'd have done the same thing as the Royals did with him, make 2 World Series. They won one; we'd have won one or two.
