  1. I'm saying you don't acquire Griffey to sit him in his home opener. That would be really strange if not dumb. Why acquire him then? It would have been bizarre.
  2. It really would be nice to sweep. Generally I'd be elated at a series victory, but Det. is now nine back I believe in the loss column and the way we beat 'em in game one followed by an efficient game two win, makes me really want sweep. Boston as you all realize is damn good. They came back to drub a hot KC team the last 2 nights after getting nipped in the opener.
  3. Of course Los Medias. It always was a thrill buying the white rubber ball at the store near Mt. Greenwood School. I don't recall ever buying more than one. Usually our game went 9 innings unless the ball got broken in half in about the 7th inning. That ended the game. You are right you only needed 2 players. The fence stopped the grounders and liners. If somebody homered over the fence the batter got on his bike and went to get the ball. We never spray painted the wall, just chalk for the strike zone. The school might have balked at the spray paint. You had to bat lefty once an inning if you were a righty; vice versa if you were a true lefty to make it a little easier on the arm. I remember our LL manager demanded nobody play the game on the days we had a LL game. We actually obeyed him. You also could play 2 on 2 and put an outfielder out there. I drove through the old neighborhood last year on a trip to Chicago and Mt. Greenwood School had a big ol flower display in the middle of the lot. I'm wondering if they did that years ago so kids couldn't play that game anymore. I noticed it was pretty big and would likely pretty much hinder kids who wanted to play fast pitch in modern times. I had a friend who dominated LL and Babe Ruth. He threw his arm out pitching for Brother Rice and was finished. I had to wonder if all those games of fastpitch, pretty much on a daily basis, with curveballs galore helped contribute to his demise. He was really a good pitcher. A shame. Most agreed he was major college bound at least. Never was the same after throwing out his arm.
  4. Excellent win. Just the kind of win you'd hope for after breaking Detroit's heart the night before. Good job, Sox. We love these type wins. Didn't Cora manage again tonight? Yikes ... Cora our good luck charm? The pressure's on Oz to keep it goin'.
  5. Good thing we passed on this guy. Looks like he's lost his closer's job or been put into committee.
  6. You don't acquire Griffey to sit him. He's Griffey. Like you said the fans would have been furious.
  7. You tell me then why Anderson and Wise are options in cf? They are never going to play; Oz will never consider playing them except in the eighth or in a spot start so why would you call them OPTIONS?? They are not options in centerfield.
  8. I thought the topic was CFs who Oz actually would consider letting play more than once a week. BA and Wise are scrubs in his mind. Anderson and Fields appear to be total scrubs in Oz's mind. Hell, Uribe has beaten out Fields and BA does not play. They are not options in cf except for the eighth inning or play once in a blue moon.
  9. I guess you are right about the mental toll in the heat. Cause every team spells its regulars all the time. I wonder which player has played in the most consecutive games in baseball right now.
  10. What don't you understand? Wise and BA are not going to start or do anything except play once a week or come in the late innings. We have no good defensive everyday options in cf right now. You think they are going to play over Swish or Griffey??
  11. I still don't understand how actually sitting out a game makes a guy fresh. It's not like the guy didn't take BP, didn't run, didn't do all the other things. He just didn't bat four times and didn't jog out to his position every inning and didn't run the bases. I'd love to sit down and talk to a major leaguer or 10 about this topic of staying fresh. I'd ask Oz but he's yet to answer my email.
  12. They are options for CF??? No way in hell are they going to start.
  13. I love all this talk of keeping fresh. Modern baseball, got to love it. Why didn't Cal Ripken wilt every season? He played every game.
  14. Swisher is not a good CF either. I trust the opinions of those who've watched Griffey and say he's terrible out there. There are no good defensive options in cf right now.
  15. You'd hope we step on their throats again after what had to be a demoralizing loss for them. I know if we got beat last night a lot of us would be assuming a lot of bad happening tonight. Hope Verlander doesn't mow us down. Cmon Griffey ... take him deep.
  16. I haven't read all the threads but what young guys are you talking about playing? Guys from our s*** farm system? Trading some of our old guys for young guys? KW is doing a pretty nice job as our GM. I want him to try to keep the team competitive and not sacrifice a couple years. The Royals spout this BS every year and suck every year except when they play us.
  17. I thought your post was OK til that line Milkman. Cmon you can't be a Masset fan.
  18. Ginger Kid, you said it all. That is the truth.
  19. Sure there's reason for optimism and great opening post, but the Twinks are so good at home you gotta figure they'll win a massive majority of those home games. We're simply going to have to play great baseball and obviously suck it up when we go to Minnie the next time. One at a time baby. C'mon Sox you have a good season going, make it a great one.
  20. Wow. Swisher. I'll never blast him again. I'll shut the f*** up if he for some reason frustrates me in the future. That hit says a lot about the guy, considering his playing time figures to be limited some with the Griffey acquisition. Can you image how deflating that loss would have been? Not scoring in the bottom of the ninth, 10th, 11th, et. all. Then we win it with a 4 spot??? Which one of you posters never gave up in the game thread? I thought it was OVA after Det's two spot off Thornton. Beers to those of you who kept the faith.
  21. How the hell did Swish do it? Congrats to him. It says something about him. That loss would have been so deflating. Great great job by many hitters in the 14th. Can you imagine not scoring for all those innings when we coulda won it then a 4 spot??? Congrats Cora and all of you Sox.
  22. Congratulations to those of yu who hadn't given up. My fricking god. I will never rip Swisher again. I'm serious. He can suck all year. He proved something with that blast. No matter what happens this season, what happened in the 14th inning this morning is legendary.
  23. I wonder if Detroit will plate more this inning?
  24. I feel the pain of you who have suffered through this one. Why make the great comeback to not put them away in the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, etc? Sad.
