Swisher is very easy to cheer for if you read his quotes and see his interviews on TV. Class act; gotta hope he gets that average up and builds on that two homer game. Early on, he had so many ohfers it just drove me crazy and made me want BA in the lineup.

Mariotti hides behind his editors, as other ST writers slam him

Disagree with some of your post. He does not try to be a total idiot. He's not that clueless. He's writing what he thinks are good columns. He has talent in terms of writing. He's very clever with his puns on names, etc. He's not trying to be an idiot to get attention IMO. ALso I don't think he's sold his soul. He obviously does truly hate Oz and Reinsdorf. I would agree he has no class. And his topics for columns are out of Columnist 101 (first team QB sucks, play the backup; rip on the manager; rip on the coach; rip on the owner; very stereotypical). I think both papers are great however for sports. Love to read Couch and the Sox beat writers in both papers. Like the Trib columnists very much as well. Great h.school coverage in both papers. Chicago is fortunate to have good sports sections IMO. -
I don't quite understand that sentence. All games are meaningful. Our division lead can wilt to nothing in a week. It's a marathon. Remember September of our title season? Keep plugging away, Sox. Lots of hits tonight, but not enough runs. Rare bad start by a pitcher.
-
I think this year's Sox-Cub series will tell us a lot about the Sox. The games are rare regular season games that will have playoffs/WS intensity, though the Cubs don't know what WS intensity is. With the first games in Wrigley, we're going to be challenged. Hope our pitchers avoid the gopher ball and our big guys hit a batch of homers.
-
Yes. Completely. That was a big part of my worry. Swish and OC were simply horrid at the plate night after night. I wonder if the Sox will only play really well against teams in their own division this year.
-
Wow, Count got clobbered. Didn't see the game; is it just a one game thing or was he back to his indecisive self? He pitches so much better (for last many starts) when he works quicker and confidently. Oh well he certainly deserves an off night. We're not going to run away with the division. Ain't gonna happen. Should be a fun year if we keep hitting and if the bullpen keeps doing its job.

I skim 'em, don't read 'em. They are too predictable. He's a good writer but his opinions are boring and repetitive, especially columns on the Sox. I think he thinks he's bold and brash, but anybody with a brain realizes he writes the same stuff over and over. For instance, I'd be interested in reading his take on the 7-0 homestand. But he's not talented enough to pick a column out of that. He'll just wait for the next slump or Oz rant. His topics in his bag of tricks: Sox: Bash Oz; Bash Reinsdork; Bash Kenny for makeup of team; when break approaches write column about how Griffey is needed, must sign Griffey or Roberts; when no trade is made, rip the fact Sox don't have enough to win; if we lead in September, write about how the choke would be one of biggest in Sox history. Cubs: Wood is not the answer at closer; Soriano is not good enough; Lou is great; Cuban is needed. Bulls: Reinsdork must sell team; Paxson is handicapped by working for Reinsdork; Bulls fans deserve better. -
Good for you Soxfan1. I just wanted some honest reactions. Yes I wanted Swish gone. His ohfers I felt were pivotal in the team's horrid offensive performance. I wanted BA to take over. Now I feel otherwise. I hope Swish and OC can keep it up.

That is awesome that Telander fought back. Yes, those other writers are good. What a great blast of Mariotti for never appearing in the clubhouse. Great stuff. Mariotti did indeed call out writers at his own paper. It is total crap the SunTimes editor killed Rick's column. Congrats to the Sun Times staff for fighting back. Those Ozzie columns are embarrassing. I mean Mariotti brought it on himself. Enough already. It is a vendetta jay and we all see it as one. The columns are dull and repetititve. You've made your point. We know you want Oz gone. We know you think he is an embarrassment. We know you think other national reporters agree with you that Oz should be fired. We know. We know. We know. YOU MADE YOUR POINT JAY. Any editor to run another Oz column from him is an idiot. I mean there is no more the guy can say on the topic. Mariotti Wants Oz Fired. OK. I get it Jay. Just end each column with the acronym MWOF and we'll remember your last column. -
Wouldn't it be something if Swish and Cabrera are just getting started and are about to hit the s*** out of the ball the rest of the summer? I will be the first to admit I was hating on both of them and even wanted Swish benched or merely released. It's "be honest" time. Did any of you, like me, want them off the team? Were any of you totally critical of the two? Congrats to both of them for not quitting. Amazing plate appearances by both of late.

If the Sox keep hitting in Detroit, I'll be amazed and happy. Isn't it a hitter's nightmare of a park? Keep it up, Swish!
-
OM God. Kenny and Ozzie rode out the storm with Swish and now he's producing. Who would have thunk that a week ago Swish would have his act together. Those of you who remained Swish fans deserve credit. Can you imagine if he keeps playing like this?? He was bad for so long, what if he's good for as long?? What a sweep for the Sox!
-
I agree with DaBear. Screw Griffey. Don't need him to go with Thome. The crazy thing is I read in the Trib we are looking for cf upgrade and second base. We still got a lot of money invested in Swish. Seems like the outfield is set for starters at least. As far as second base ... I guess Alexei could cool off, but right now he's the young blood we need in an old lineup.
-
Joe probably won't be back, but I still don't understand why he can't pull a Buehrle and simply tell his agent he wants to stay. I know ... money. But you would think our offer would be in the same ballpark as others. He still will be a "risk" because of his back and the fact he's now 30. I guess the Angels could offer him a ton more than the Sox. Who else desperately has wanted Joe in the past? Yankees don't need him; Mets don't need him; Red Sox don't need him.
-
You're going to get the weather we just had in Kansas. Incredible sheets of rain with hail. Good luck getting the game in.
-
Might as well complete the sweep. The Twinks have damaged us in the past. Hopefully the guys will be loose and crush enough hits to win it 7-6.
-
With all due respect, anybody who would rather have Fields than Joe in the lineup THIS SEASON, considering the on-field results needs his/her head examined. Crede's numbers have been great, especially considering he's coming off MAJOR back surgery. I mean I know a guy that uses a cane because his doctor botched a similar surgery. I like Josh Fields; I couldn't believe there was no spot for him on the roster this year ... but Joe Crede is a great baseball player. He should be like Buehrle and simply want to stay with the White Sox and tell his agent to give us a hometown discount.
-
I'll eat crow right now. Hopefully will continue to eat it. I never ever thought Floyd and Danks would be even decent this year. And I thought Jose was washed up. His acquisitions of Quentin and even Alexei have been two of the hot stories in baseball. Linebrink especially and Dotel to a certain extent have been just what the doctor ordered instead of MacDougal. Swish is heating up apparently and OC is no longer an instant out. Crede over Josh also appears to have been the correct call. KW is on a roll now; hopefully it'll continue. It's a heckuva long season but KW and Oz, too, deserve a LOT of credit right now. The players didn't quit on Oz after his tirade, which means they like playing for him, Jay.
-
My gawd. I never would have expected this. Maybe Oz's critics like Mariotti will finally realize Oz is Oz and his madness is refreshing. If the players hated him they'd have quit after his last tirade instead of responding with all these hits. Right now, Oz and KW have shut up the critics. I never thought Floyd and Danks could do what they are doing. Swish getting hot. Alexi and Quentin two of the biggest surprises in the AL. Wow! Keep it up. Congratulations for now, Sox.
-
No f*** you Mariotti. He's the only one calling for his head in the print editions at least. Don't know about talk radio.
-
Let's make up for a lot of losses to the Twinks the last several years. Keep the killer instinct boys. Go for another win.
-
Why not just let Ramirez play 2b the next 10 years? Why does he have to move to ss?
-
Anybody else a huge Joe Crede fan? Maybe Joe is what the team was missing last year. Joe Crede is a fricking great baseball player. Two bombs two nights in a row?? You are kidding me.
-
Crede ... Wow.

I predict we will see Zambrano twice. Rainout or something crazy. I think we'll go 2-4 or 1-5 vs. Cubs.
