  1. I'm just trying to figure your position on the economy. Some of my relatives in Illinois who want to stay locked down are of the position the economy means nothing: let's get through this corona thing by having everyone stay at home for as how long as it takes; 2 years is fine with them). My take is the economy is JUST AS BIG a concern as corona cause of starvation, shortages, riots, the end of the world, really when human nature takes over with food scarce. My main point is: this corona thing is not going to be solved until minimum May 2021 probably a lot longer than that. Meanwhile the economy is ready to make our lives even more miserable than corona. Once there are food lines in front of grocery stores and you have to wait 24 hours to get in and everything else is closed ... God help us all. My take is we must work together to be as safe as possible while not having 1/2 of America out of work. My relatives don't care about the economy at all. They are like, first things first. End this corona scare. The economy can wait.
  2. Very true. But in corona-America I bet you some owners are scared. With the prospect of sports without crowds (until there is a vaccine/cure) and what that entail$$, owners are relying only on TV money. And at some point all the networks will be stripped of money to pay those contracts because of the collapsed economy. We could be at 50 percent unemployment in the USA by the end of corona concerns.
  3. How long do you wanna be locked down? Do you agree with my scenario of riots? It's been 2 months; people are starving and mad as hell.
  4. Great points! I am assuming you are in the "Keep it locked down" crowd. We're up to 20 percent unemployment. How high can we go before the riots? The shortages? Dick ... are you confident in the scenarios I've mentioned regarding travel (even travel on the train from Naperville to downtown Chicago and back; and the uber and the bus) that the corona germ would EVER be absent in your daily life once it resumes to normal? They can clean all they want. We have two choices: Stay locked down til May of 2021 or 2022, completely locked down til we have vaccine or treatment, or open it up to an earth where slobs will make sure there are germs out there RAMPANT during flu season (September til March). You want it locked down for a long time, right? I say we can't lock it down any longer cause of life.
  5. I knew somebody would say that to my post. I want all reasonable precautions taken ... but we have to open. Like I said ... take 3-4 business trips any winter and oh yes there will be germs. Oh yes you are gonna get sick, maybe violently sick like my cough/cold last winter. BOOM. WOW. And yet I kept working through it. Why? In the old normal a cold didnt keep you from working. Now? Who knows. A cough/cold might shut you off a plane or train or bus immediately. I'm not talking of precautions. I'm talking life. We've been through this two months. Now summer is here; delightful summer and everything is canceled. How long do we have things shut down. Til we get a vaccine? Some people are anti vax anyway; they'll give us corona. Til we have a cure of symptoms? OK let's shut it down with the same lockdown regulations until lets say May of 2022. Good luck. Violence in the streets. No food. End of the world. Answer this badger: Is life meant to be about only trying to stay alive? Precautions? YES by all means. Will we still get corona? Yes and may die from it. Reasonable precautions, baby, that's what we must do.
  6. You know what Balta ... you make EXCELLENT points. Guess what. Like my post to badger, no matter the precautions, no matter the cleaning, people are going to get the virus just as kids in the past have gotten sick during the school year. They call them sick days for a reason. Think about before corona ... flu season. Ouch! Kids getting sick, bringing it home, getting their parents sick. Yet we move on and get well hopefully. I have a good friend whose wife died of the flu. Bonecrushingly sad. Brings me to tears a lot that the fricking flu killed her in her 30s. My point: Like I said: Life is not meant to be lived just to preserve our life. We take risks every day and unfortunately after 2 months of this we are going to have to take some risks. And I say this as somebody who yes, will get corona if my lifestyle remains the same and may die of corona if the symptoms remain this bad. I hate this for everybody but either we never open school again and deal with that or we open them NOW and take a few risks as we do every winter with germs/cold/flu season. And the fact a bus could hit our kids. Or a rabid dog could bite them, etc. Be cautious. YES. But reopen. We must or we all will die of starvation anyway. Stores will have no food. Violence will erupt with a crushed economy. Life will not be worth living. Comments?
  7. Disagree. I watched a neat video today that said the purpose of life is not merely to keep living. Two months of this is enough. The way my life works I'll tell you what's going to happen no MATTER the precautions. I am going to get coronavirus at some point. Why? Cause I never touch my face with my hands, I wash a lot, I pay attention to stuff germ wise YET because I travel, every winter I get 3, count em, 3 colds, vicious colds and coughs. This year one of em will be corona for sure. Why? Slobs at the airport and on planes and germy hotel rooms and rental cars and coffee shops and restaurants. You have to go to the bathroom at an airport? That's where I'll catch it. On a packed plane? That's where I'll get it. At a sporting event or movie? Yes at my church or an out of town church. That's where I'll get it. Look ... I'm not condoning we all get it. But I'm going to get it no matter what and most of us are, according to my nurse brother. It's not just about me needing a haircut (yes I'll probably get germs of corona or a cold at the barbershop or church; that's possible too) or wanting to go to a restaurant. Remember the purpose of life is not just to keep living. And that is natural and that will make sure we all get corona LIKELY no matter what precautions we take.
  8. This Illinois governor seems to be a dictator. I love Oak Brook fighting back. Anyhow, greg's question: Let's say MLB allows baseball starting July 1. The conservative Illinois governor won't allow activity in Comiskey or Wrigley. So think of the publicity he's going to get in shutting down MLB in Chicago. Those who laud him will push him for a presidential run someday. What a leader!! Those who hate him ... Sox and Cubs shut down cause of this dictatorish guy.
  9. You mean to tell me if you go to Maui, you must first stay in the hotel 14 days then you can vacation? What nut would agree to that? Even "cheap" hotels in Maui are 160 a night.
  10. Sort of. The mask is thinner to cover the mouth and nose but each side like this picture has two straps.
  11. You may laugh but at some point barbers are essential and should be treated that way. I mean going 3.5 months without a haircut can't be sanitary if that's the right word. Also there's still a stigma against people with really long hair in the business world. The barber can chop away as fast as he/she can when a person is in the chair. Cmon people are driving on the subway and buses every day. A barber should be allowed to perform his/her craft. I mean, cmon, there are plenty of examples of people spreading corona and the barbershop experience is no worse than many.
  12. How the hell do you tie these masks on your head? There's long strips that do not wrap around the ear. Do you make a regular hard shoelace knot in the back?? My barber has penciled me in for a haircut a week from Thurs. We open up allegedly. Damn I dunno if I can make it that long. I need to get a new Sox hat somewhere to wear.
  13. I said I would meet anybody at a ballgame. I would hope I wouldn't get punched. I haven't been punched since 7th grade.
  14. Why pick on barbers? Geez, there is risk everywhere. These people and their kids are starving and soon will be homeless. The treatment of salon owners has been despicable. I bought two masks from a lady who handed them to me in her driveway. That could be equally dangerous. Stylists deserve a right to live as well.
  15. Hmmm ... where are you guys getting the wood, the materials? If I were a dxxk I would do what people did to me on here in response to me implying I need a haircut and want one ... I'd say "What? Where are you getting the wood, the nails, the materials?" This is NON ESSENTIAL work and you went to a hardware store?? Hardware stores aren't clean. You could be killing a person spreading the virus! I'm not a dxxk though so I won't say that.
  16. Save this post. Some of it may be true.
  17. What are you talking about. I'd give you my thorough opinion of Trump, but it's not allowed. I don't want to be banned again. I'm addicted.
  18. Thanks. I can't imagine having fans. Can you imagine the cases uncovered after one homestand??
  19. If this is the case, it's a good case study. We're all doomed.
  20. Its pretty obvious what is going to happen. ... There are going to be a ton of cases tied to events with large groups of people if we have those. The way this is going ... I'd suggest the governors will be the ones to slow/stop the reopening of the USA. Once we get the figures from the first week of reopening, we'll be shut for good through next spring.
  21. What does that mean? No road games cause of corona?
  22. I'd say this week has been a downer. I've said it before, not a good sign and it's not even the normal virus season. Corona may truly be the end of the world before this is over. This thing could be a runaway train by late September.
  23. Thank u. Yes in my long speech written here I am worried about the inevitability of say, our church, opening some weekend with distancing in the pews. I'd guess I'll attend and feel stupid and sad wearing a mask. But like I said out of our four Mass weekend, 40 people are going to get corona and all hell will break loose. What will happen is like I wrote either a.) we just say fxxk it and let the virus do what it has to do forevermore or b.) shut down the city again, this time forever.
  24. Thank u. I appreciate and agree with the post especially your long, penultimate paragraph.
  25. Just a few musings today. ... a.) Southwest Airlines and all of 'em are requiring masks now. And there is going to be social distancing while boarding and while standing in lines, etc. Can you imagine the rage people are going to have at airports now? Travel has been awful anyway for years, now this. People better try to be kind to each other. I sense a lot of anger regarding masks. It's like the people that have them on are ready to tear the heads off of those who don't. It's time to get kind or there are going to be so many fistfights/arrests/canceled flights because of rage. b.) Saw 12 people partying on a lawn while driving to the drive through last night for coffee. Weird. c.) I think the verdict is still out on whether America will ever be the same again. If one person at a danceclub is responsible for shutting down the clubs in Korea another 30 days, makes me think the first sporting event with fans is going to be a disaster in terms of people infecting people. I think we should get used to the idea of sports in empty stadiums for the rest of time. Or stadiums in which maybe they seat 40,000 and 4,000 are allowed in, something like that. With no concessions stands. d.) It's easy to say American business will never be the same. Airline and train and bus travel and subway travel all sound AWFUL right now. The idea of flying somewhere disgusts me right now. e.) I would think the movie industry is toast. At least the box office. Again, the idea of a movie theatre is scary and disgusting. I would guess mandatory masks. f.) Church or in my cass Mass is in danger forever of restarting. Again, there's going to be Mass one weekend, 40 people are going to be infected and that will cause all hell to break loose no pun intended. g.) People are going to have to be 100 percent healthy to go anywhere. If you have the common cold, it used to be you could go to church, be on airplanes, etc. Now once you cough you are going to get ushered off the flight, the train, the bus. So you are gonna have to be 100 percent healthy at all times or tell your bosses you can't travel that day? Or drive all over the country instead of fly? h.) People like me who are bored out of their minds and sick of this new normal might get the country opened for good. The ultimate end to all of this is everything will be open and the virus will do what it has to do. There will be normal precautions (masks, distancing laws like SWA's new policy of masks), but the country will be open and never close again and the virus will do what it has to do. How many deaths? Nobody knows. Will it kill me or you? Nobody knows. Finally if you read this far, yes I'm in my pessimism mode today. I have seen no human beings face to face except zoom for 2 months. This is bullcrap. I'm sick of it. I want to go do something and everything's locked up. I ALSO NEED A HAIRCUT. Bless u all. Have a nice weekend, though they all are the same.
