  1. Amen brother. Poppy rocks!
  2. I wonder how all the losing has affected our younger fan base. Do little kids on the South Side still stick up for the Sox in arguments with their peers about Cubs vs. Sox. Or have the Sox lost all its younger fanbase?
  3. I've been repeating myself on here for years regarding baseball announcers almost exclusively quoting the traditional stats. "Now batting, Leury Garcia, who is hitting .295 with six home runs and 30 RBI." Or Stoney after a guy hits a home run immediately telling us how many RBI a guy has and how many homers. Oh, yes, some of the announcers throw in WAR once in a while and all that. Not many. I'm so glad there are more posters who think the way I do on here now.
  4. I love Timmy but the way this board treats injured players (Avi) ... we better hope Timmy doesn't miss six weeks or so for injury reasons again next year or he'll be thrust into the off-injured category. Timmy's injury, like Avi's, proves stuff happens when you are giving 100 percent playing baseball.
  5. I love this post and this poster! I will join you. I feel vindicated now that baseball tells us what they think of Abreu. Remember, he earned this all star spot. They didn't have to take a third White Sox player. Obviously he is well respected as a productive veteran baseball player!
  6. Those who root for losses will tell you we woulda picked somebody much better than Burger had we just dropped 8-10 more games.
  7. We got Colome for Omar. Any other team could have acquired Colome in the offseason for a similar type player. True Omar is having a very nice season, but he wasn't highly regarded at the time of the trade. That's all we are going to get for Colome, an Omar-type player. I mean, people, anybody coulda acquired Colome last offseason for scraps. They are not going to overpay for him just a few months later.
  8. I wonder how many fan bases have 3 time all stars as unpopular as Abreu is to Sox fans, at least the ones who use message boards. It's almost as if some people won't give it a rest until he's long gone from the South Side. Or are all-star appearances now also no measuring stick of a player's value like RBI and runs scored. Means nothing in the advanced stat era?
  9. Not really because of the rebuild/tank. Our draft picks have been nothing special. Our key players are the ones we got via trade and international market.
  10. I don't think any Sox plan considers "saving" money. It's in the Sox rulebook. It's part of the modus opperandi. They like to keep the owners' pockets stuffed full of cash. I doubt they are "saving" to spend it when it matters most to winning. Arguably at 5 out of the wild card we could have done some "winning" this season had dollars been spent on starting pitching and another bat.
  11. I shut up when we drafted him cause at that time the board was quite mean compared to now and I didn't want to continue my negativity and possibly get put on vacation. I stayed neutral on Burger.
  12. And yet most modern fans don't care. We're losing on purpose in order to build a roster so outstanding we'll run away with the division sooner rather than later, then dominate the playoffs and Series as well.
  13. That trade was inexplicable, but the Eloy trade was delectable.
  14. Different era? The team is still under .500 with a very weak roster. Team has a lot to prove. Sox fans have been great this year in supporting this weak roster.
  15. Nice to see McCann make the team. I wonder if there are injuries if Colome will be added.
  16. He certainly got red hot. He's gonna have a monster year if he stays healthy. Good luck to Manny.
  17. Thanks poppy! Some of us like to celebrate when our favorite players get rewarded. Abreu appears to be the kind of guy who not only deserves to be there but will really really enjoy being there.
  18. Great post Greg Hibbard!!! I never thought of it that way but you are spot on. It's funny cause Jose's BA is what is sub-standard maybe for an all star. Yet the haters insist BA doesn't matter ... I guess it doesn't matter unless you are Jose Abreu.
  19. Great win. Jose. Gio, Moncada. Why did Gio only pitch five? Was there a rain delay? Go Sox!
  20. Congrats to Gio. I love his new pitching motion. Very smooth. I like the leg kick too. Wonder if PTATC could comment on Gio's motion and leg kick. Compare his style to Nate Jones please. PTATC should all pitchers have smooth motions like Gio? Seems a no brainer. At any rate, bless you Gio and CONGRATS on a fine honor. Hope he has a nice 1-2-3 first inning in the game.
  21. Q belongs on the Chicago White Sox. He's beloved and Coop would fix him IMO. Cmon, keep dangling Colome and a prospect and we get Q. Or maybe straight up Collins for Q and a decent prospect? If McCann is the real deal we don't need Collins. On second thought Colome for Q even up. It's dangerous trading everyday players for pitchers. Collins might become a budding all star.
  22. It's one of the worst trades in baseball history for sure, but like I've pointed out, it's nullified by the Eloy deal. Eloy baby! Too bad Hahn whiffed on the Tatis deal but it's possible KW or some meddler (Jerry?) told them to acquire Shields no matter what. Remember Shields had a few good seasons afore we got him.
  23. Thanks Ray Ray. By the way, Ray Durham was a helluva player.
  24. Amen brother. I think we're just in an era nobody thinks about keeping a guy long term unless he's one of our key core rebuilding prospects. If you are a reliever, in the eyes of fans you are not only expendable but should be traded to acquire more prospects. It's almost heresy to suggest Colome might be in our bullpen 3-6 years or something like that. It's kind of scary because relievers are so inconsistent from year to year. When they hit a team where they fare well ... maybe a team in the future will buck the system and actually keep the guy for a while like in the old days when Bobby Jenks was our closer for a few seasons or Thiggy or Roberto Hernandez or some others. But in today's baseball, closers are a dime a dozen and if one is hot like Colome you trade him and don't look back.
  25. I do wish we'd play Collins more. However, if McCann is our future catcher, it's decision time regarding Collins. If he's our backup catcher of the future, then just have him play once or twice a week as he'll be doing during his Sox career. If he's a starter, we may have to trade McCann in a blockbuster deal. He's become a stud obviously.
