  1. Chitown... Believe it or not, I've shut up about Jose's defense because seriously, in the games I watch (I don't watch that many games ever since we've stunk) Jose is always digging throws quite cleanly. I realize he blows on defense, but in the games I watch, he's always digging cleanly. I've shut up even though my eyetest has treated Jose well defensively.
  2. I guarantee you if we are 10, 20 out of first and the wildcard you will be hearing some fans on this board wanting to shut him down the last six weeks. The radical rebuild/tank fans see no need in forcing the issue. They want losses and they want 'em bad and they want to put our stars on ice til we are ready to win and win big. Hey is Escobar still in our minor league system? Just asking. I don't like his game.
  3. Has he played any 1B? Just asking cause greg HATES when we immediately put guys at positions they haven't played. I mean even if Collins blows I want him to catch. Sorry James.
  4. You should prepare to be surprised. Not everybody can DH. The DH is the worst possible defender. Collins may be subpar catcher, but welcome to your CATCHER of the future, not DH. And I hate to tell those who are worried about defense ... Eloy is your LEFTFIELDER not DH for a long time to come. GO SOX!
  5. He was horrific but I don't like the timing with the charity event. He was good for one thing, helping us beat Cleveland. Now we can go back to being Cleveland's patsy I'd think, at least for the rest of this year.
  6. I wish we'd acquire somebody for the month. This injury is really gonna show up in our play and in the standings.
  7. High ankle sprain ... don't expect him back til second week of August, folks. By then it may be decided to just shut him down.
  8. A perfect Greg world is one in which the player of the game only hears praise, the sweet scent of praise, praise, praise. No trade talk, no "yeah, buts" just the sweet scent of praise.
  9. At many universities like Kansas, the academic side actually contributes to athletics when the athletic side is much more financially stable/profitable than the academic side. That looks like it is changing. At Kansas I believe the academic side has cut its donation to the athletic department which is a private corporation significantly next year with the goal to give no money to athletics relatively soon. There's really no way to rein in this runaway train called college athletics. Look at the salaries of head coaches of bball and football. Isn't coach Cal up to 8 mill a year? Football facilities ... football coaching staffs now full of analysts (if you are young you might want to try to get into that field; big bucks, fun work if you know analytics) as well as assistants. Practice gyms going up everywhere; weight facilities; trips to foreign countries every 4 years; private flights to games for pretty much all sports now most certainly football and men's bball. But like I said almost all teams travel private now. The government needs to tax these programs. But as far as stopping all this ... nope. ESPN wants it this way and is paying for so much of it along with the shoe companies. CBS is paying for it with its NCAA tournament deal. It's bizarre yes, but colleges are all bout athletics now.
  10. Teams make mistakes but if his talent is so apparent ... how in the hell ...
  11. Ozzie would last about 2 days in this current PC environment. Can you imagine Ozzie meeting the media in the dugout for 30 minutes before every game and in the office after every game? He would rip KW and Hahn a new one blaming them for some of the many stiffs on the roster. Can you imagine him fielding questions about the bullpen when it flops? Ozzie would be blasting so many players all our heads would spin. He's say half the team doesn't belong in the bigs or "go ask Kenny" when some media member asked him why they lost. Ozzie simply cannot manage in Chicago again. He'd be throwing everybody under the bus except maybe Abreu and the few guys who have talent like Eloy and Moncada and Gio and Colome and McCann. he might try to build those guys up a bit. And he'd show respect to guys like McCann when they earn it. But to all the stiffs? Look out.
  12. Can Jirschele speak Spanish? In this day and age you've got to have a Spanish speaking manager. Communication is vital and Ricky according to reports is very good in that department. I think Omar is a no brainer for our next manager. He's being groomed obviously for the job.
  13. Then dump him for whatever you can get for him. Maybe 3 prospects with the ceiling of a Jon Jay in his prime or a Todd Ritchie in his prime? He's old and no good and too expensive to sign. I am giving in. Takes too much energy to try to talk some sense into you folks. I'm OK with trading him now.
  14. Why? The wise thing to do is play him when he's healthy enough to come back. p.s. Where u been Caulfield? Were u put in the penalty box? We miss you and love Caulfield.
  15. Two prospects. One a Rutherford type (the Rutherford at the time we acquired him); the other somebody with the upside of say a Gio Gonzalez when he was decent. Both in the very early stages of their careers, let's say these guys are 19 or 20. As much as I worship Jose, teams probably aren't going to trade us Eloy types to get him.
  16. Actually this is good by baseball standards. This is the modern strategy. Homer or K. Nothing in between is wise according to advanced stats. I mean I guess a triple would be acceptable (ball that doesn't quite escape the yard).
  17. I love Jose but that trade would get a GM fired immediately. Jay and Alonso are 2 of the worst hitters in all of baseball. It'd have to be a team that loved Jose so much they'd take all 3 and just cut Jay and Alonso like NBA teams do sometimes after trades.
  18. That's you and me talking. Most of the fans who are still moderately interested in the team disagree with us. They are loving the rebuild and see it as it going very well.
  19. I feel your pain chitown, sorry bout your injuries, but give TA a break. Univ of Kansas had a guy this year with a high ankle sprain miss over a month of ball and he's just now getting close to 100 percent and those guys have round the clock care. Ankle sprains can be very very bad. Give TA a break.
  20. I give up and am sick of defending him. Players go through slumps especially ones on bad teams, but with no love for Jose I hope we trade him soon. I'm weary of defending him. I hope you all get 2-3 good prospects for him and not lousy prospects.
  21. The replay looked like he planted very hard on it but didn't look like he necessarily turned the ankle. PTATC? Any idea? Could he actually have sprained the top part of his foot??
  22. If Tim Anderson has some serious injury (does he? I'm not watching the game), then it really all appears hopeless. He's a fine young ballplayer. Losing him at a prime spot in the batting order and in the field would be really depressing.
  23. Guys, compare the two rosters for gosh sakes. When we play Boston and New York it's a miracle we grab a win once in a while. We have no business beating those teams in their own parks.
  24. I'm talking about this season, arguably Jose has been better than Manny (at least equal) for 1/zillionth the cost. So some of you think I'm ready for the insane asylum? Call a talk show and ask the host about this and you'll see them agree with my point (unless they are extreme advanced statnik type of hosts). I read your entire thread. Not so sure anybody read mine. I'm just talking about this season, which is fair, because whenever somebody was ready to deem Avi trash they always just looked at current performance not ever looking at the season he bashed .320 or whatever it was. Now Tatis? Arguably what he's doing is scary good at this time. I'll give you that.
  25. Good job nailing me on that. I could be a dick and say, "What else is Brooks supposed to say?" But I won't. What about my general point that through 80 games Jose is basically outperforming Manny this season, especially when you consider cost efficiency which the White Sox obviously care greatly about?
