  1. As much as I worship Jose I'll play devil's advocate. If we did trade him next week or at the deadline here's what we'd get: Somebody like Rutherford and Polo with some former 18th round pitcher who is 26 thrown in for good measure. Our fans would be all happy thinking the 18th round pitcher has shown promise with some advanced stat category in AA ball and say the Rutherford/Polo clones have a lotta tools. I say gimme Abreu baby. Don't need Rutherford, Polo (type players) and a 15th round pitcher to be named later. I hope all the fans with Abreu jerseys boycott if we trade him.
  2. Now that's a good post by Moan. I endorse that post.
  3. Just curious why you think he's worth that little amount. Is it SOLELY his age and his perceived being overweight? Two years 16 million isn't even enough for Leury. Beckham with the Tigers should be making at least that much. Geez.
  4. Anything good. Your post makes me want to cry. Anything good? He's good for gawd's sake. People's love of the unknown in sports just slays me. What about Jose Abreu makes you want to trade him for "anything good." Define "anything good." I'll define Jose as "very good." And he's not going to decline THAT much in his age 33 and 34 seasons no matter what modern baseball says. If he does, tough. Sox have paid some horrible baseball players a lot of money in the past 10 years.
  5. Bless you, Jose Abreu. Every Sox fan should hope you get 14 mill a year the next 3 years. Anybody who wants jerry to stuff more money in his wallet and deny Jose a few bills needs professional help IMO. Pay the player. It's just three years. Sox have wasted so much cash on players starting with Dunn and LaRoche through last season's ridiculous sign-the-stiffs-fest. Why can't Jose hoard some well deserved cash? Pay.The.Man. two years, team option year three and that's it. After that, one year deals like Konerko til he's finished.
  6. I'm glad they gave it to a pitcher. It's too easy to hit HRs nowadays when every hitter is trying to hit it out of the park in every at bat. It's home run or K. There were an abundance of K's tonight, so glad a pitcher got it. He wins that big truck just cause he pitches for Cleveland, though. Rewarded the home team to get a few more cheers. It coulda easily been the closer to get it, Chapman.
  7. This guy is another Palka. I don't say that negatively. I liked Palka; he just couldn't hit MLB. Like Palka's last stand, this is Reed's last stand. If he pulls a Palka, he gawn and done. If he hits, he could start to fulfil what everybody thought he'd be. He is a big guy; my guess is he's 10-30 pounds too heavy.
  8. I would say 80 percent of the board does not want to "rush" any Sox prospect. They'd keep 'em in the minors as long as possible. This is changing just a little bit however cause of the success of Tatis and Vlad Jr. This is confusing the situation a bit regarding age of players in MLB. I personally want MLB to copy NBA and start playing these guys at 20, 21. If the new era tells us 34 is ancient for hitters, then let em start hacking away in the bigs at 21. If the new normal is 24-28 or 29, baseball is not gonna be a good sport for hitters. Careers are gonna be cut short in the future of everyday lineup players. Let's make Tatis the RULE rather than the exception. Play 'em young. Specifically have Madrigal start next season in the bigs ditto Robert. Madrigal will be 23 next March for gosh sakes; Robert will be 22 this August. Thank goodness Eloy got the call in his age 22 season.
  9. Shouldn't we just release Beef? It's Collins/McCann time. No need for Beef at all.
  10. If you gave a 35 year old 15 million dollars he/she wouldn't have to work a day in her/his life. The mathematics tell you that.

Would u consider driving a truck? I know a guy who did it and he enjoyed it when he got to drive alone and not have a partner. Also, what about you being one of those guys who works for Jewel or Hi-Vee and shops for people then delivers the groceries to their house. You do that 40 hours and overtime you could make a liveable wage. What about driving a van for old folks home or do laundry at an old folks home. Once they see you are reliable you could work at the old folks home a long time doing laundry. Not high pressure. If you do laundry a couple years maybe they'd sponsor you to get some degree to help out with the residents meals or things like that. It wouldn't be like being a maid at a hotel. It'd be more low key as usually the old folks homes/assisted living places are run at a slower pace. Are u a good driver? Some kinda driving job. Finally, what about janitor at a high school or grade school. Again, it's not high pressure and once they see you are great they might have suggestions on moving up.
  12. I'm glad Beckham lasted a long time and is set for life financially. He wasn't good but he grinded out a heckuva nice living and seemed like a nice guy when Hawk interviewed him.
  13. Was Craig Grebeck really "The Little Hurt?" Such a dumb name. I mean he hit some balls hard but was not a good hitter.
  14. This could be the sign I don't want. They are trading Jose and this guy is ready to immediately take over at first. ... It's pretty obvious. Hahn is definitely trade-happy and he will simply tell people like me who are upset that they may try to sign Jose in the offseason. They'll have to be careful, however, as that might mean they don't believe this new guy can hit in the bigs.

Leury turns 29 next March. He's had a pretty nice run of late. Not trying to be a smart ass, but any realistic thought of adding him to the list of guys that might be flipped? Does anybody need somebody like Leury? he kind of reminds me as a Semien type player, one the Sox fans and brass underrated a bit. He goes away and has had some damn fine seasons of production. Will there be clamoring to flip Leury? You flip Leury and Colome and either Bummer or Jose, you probably add seven additional prospects to the under 25 prospect list. Add seven more to the prospect depth chart and it probably reduces the chance of busts at any certain position for the WS contending years that are coming in 2021-25.
  16. Poor Palka ... needs a change of scenery. Time to set him free. Who woulda thought he and Davidson would both be busts?
  17. Would Nova be a nice reliever?
  18. We're not only going to have WS caliber teams in 2021-25 but ones winning with record low payrolls it appears. If we get rid of Abreu we'll have very few guys even making 10 million a year I'd suspect.
  19. I respect your post, but I'm assuming you want prospects for Colome. They 'could' make our team better in 2022 or so. If they pan out. I realize there's compensation to be had for colome but at the same time I don't want Nate Jones to be our closer next season and I don't want Frye or Bummer as I don't believe in lefty closers. I understand you want very good players for Colome, assuming you mean youngsters, prospects. I'm resigned to trading him, so I would guess we could use another stud outfielder prospect with Rutherford looking like a possible bust and perhaps a catcher prospect. We already have a lot of young arms but could probably add another. So if Colome is flipped I'd assume the goal is an outstanding hitting outfielder and/or catcher.
  20. Not funny. Do you deny my accusations against the stat people do not have a good portion of truth in them? Fans are suddenly scared to death to sign anybody on our own team over 32. Do you deny this has become reality? If we get rid of Abreu the advanced stat advocates will have their wish. Almost everybody on our WS window teams that are not pitchers will be under 30 and well under 30 in fact (assuming McCann is also shipped out). Meanwhile, Manny Machado will be 29 during the 2021 season, perilously close to 30. Yet several of the pitchers will be 35 or older as Sox are going to have to spend some money on veteran starters and a closer once we dump Colome. He'll have to be replaced in 2021 with 2020 looking like another rebuild season.
  21. Why does Madrigal need a nickname?
  22. Magic Man is good if he even needs a nickname. Putting 'Little' in front of a male's name is sickening. The poor guy would be miserable.
  23. Simple question: What if Colome was 26? Would you still want to flip him? My guess is you and most of the rebuild people would because most feel we can acquire somebody just as good in the offseason to be our closer. Or let somebody on the current roster close. If Colome was 26 I'd be hoping he could be effective for several years as our closer.
  24. Great win. A split is fine considering the Cubs are at the top and we are in the tailend of the rebuild/tank. Nova ... thank you for a great start. We would have lost without you. Moncada. Eloy are thrilling. Jose is a reliable veteran stud. Good relief work as well. I'll take the split. Great game today. The Cubs were sizzling after kicking our butt Saturday. Took a nice bounceback to win Sunday. BTW, Collins either needs to play every day or send him back down. This is ridiculous seeing him suck.
  25. If the Sox do trade Abreu at the deadline it will be one of more disgraceful transactions in team history. What buzzkill to the "rebuild" if that happens. I like what oldsox suggested. Extend him 1 or 2 years right now with a team option for year three. Overpay him at 13 or 14 mill per year (who cares about Jerry's wallet?? Not me). Hopefully his agent will not be a d_ _ k and simply say OK. This would be great way to continue the good vibes of this season. It'd let everybody know the popular Jose will be a part of the WS teams and his veteran leadership ain't going anywhere. Also it would prevent bad vibes to start next season. Let's say Jose signs for 2-3 years in the offseason and it's for more money than the rabid fan thinks he should get. Now every at bat Jose has in April and May of 2020 will be overly scrutinized with negative vibes all over the place heaven forbid Jose hit .222 in April with 2 home runs and 9 RBI. It makes too much sense. Oldsox is right. Extend him now! Also when grades are assessed for first half performance, Jose better get one solid grade of A. There's no reason for his grade to not be an A. Sox have some other A's too by the way. And Ricky gets a B or B plus or A minus believe it or not. He's in charge of the big picture. This flawed roster is two under .500.
