  1. What??? If this is true, then I am totally vindicated on my disdain for the fricking draft and tanking. Our drafts have been that bad?? We got Robert internationally not in the draft. And Madrigal ... no offense but I've been told more than relievers, second basemen are truly a dime a dozen. Madrigal hopefully will excel but he doesn't make me jump for joy daily just thinking about him.
  2. I'll comment since I do agree today killed our playoff hopes. We're 4 under .500 which means if we get hot it's still going to take another week or so just to get to .500. We're out of time with so many teams ahead of us and the Sox still kind of dysfunctional (and injured of course with Timmy out). Of course I never want us to sell but to please everybody I will now agree to sell and give you my specific trades. I will be sad when we sell Abreu and McCann especially, but I'm giving my OK to sell to please the board and trust that you all are right. The obvious candidates to sell are Jose, Colome, Bummer, Leury, Yolmer, Herrera, McCann, Beef, Jay, Rondon. I may be forgetting somebody, maybe Reed too. Since you guys insist we can always acquire relievers this offseason or in our system, I'll agree to trade Colome to the Cubs (or whoever needs a closer or 8th inning guy) in return for 2 VERY GOOD prospects, prospects our scouts believe will "make an impact" in the bigs someday. I realize Colome was only worth Narvaez to begin with, but now that he's been very good, Hahn must rob somebody and get two very good prospects as he did in the Eaton deal. Colome for 2 very good Cub prospects or to another team that will give us two guys for a "talented" arm that is on fire this season. Bummer: He's young, yes, but was high-round draft pick, which means scouts never thought that much of him. Again trade him in a singular deal for 2 prospects. Go to a team that needs him and demand 2 guys who our scouts feel ARE BIG LEAGUERS in the future and NOT STIFFS. Real prospects. Rob somebody. You say it's not easy to rob somebody? That's Hahn's job if he's selling players who can be of value to a contender NOW. Abreu: As much as I will cry about losing Jose (or get drunk after we deal him), since you all want him flipped, go ahead and trade him to the Dodgers for some of those names we always talk about. Try to grab 4 very very very good prospects (it's up to Hahn to not blow it; make them guys expected to be real major leaguers, not Jon Jay's). Not sure who needs him but go ahead and trade him for 3-4 outstanding prospects. Try to make one of them can't miss. The other 3 should be future major leaguers. If you can't get 4, get 3. Leury: Probably should keep him because does any team really believe in Leury? If they do, by all means, ship him for 2 very good prospects, NOT STIFFS and/or minor league fillers. Herrera: Trade him for cash and one minor league shortstop with moderate potential. McCann: Since we have Collins, trade him for our future right fielder. Get a guy who is fast and can hit. Also another prospect. Get two guys for McCann. Beef: Trade him for cash considerations and a moderate prospect who probably won't make it. Jay and Rondon: Trade them both for whatever you can get plus cash considerations. Separate deals. Trade Jay to somebody who needs a veteran who will play the role of a Blum for some contender. Get a prospect. Rondon to whoever needs him for a prospect. I apologize for not mentioning specific names of the guys we get in return. I'm not an expert on prospects in other organizations. What I'm saying is Colome, Abreu and Bummer all are of immediate value to contenders so make it hurt for teams to acquire them. WIN SOME TRADES. In conclusion: If we trade all these guys for prospects, our minor league system will be overflowing with bodies. There will be enough infielders and outfielders to fill out a three-deep depth chart for the future of all our positions. Get relievers and starters this offseason through free agency. I promise these feelings are mine and mine alone, in my baseball brain. If you deem them ridiculous, feel free to blast me but remember these are my true feelings as of 12:30 a.m., Sunday.
  3. Did we not DFA Covey after that masterpiece? Geez.
  4. We're destined to get Pederson. His name has appeared too many times on the this board and in media the last few years for Hahn to not get KW's man.
  5. Why is this a day game? I'm assuming Oakland has a crowd of under 10,000 today. Correct? Thanks in advance. I got things to do and am outta here.
  6. Is there any reason to keep Covey around? He was a first round draft pick nine years ago. Has never done anything. I don't see any possible upside. Isn't he just another guy who should be released after the game?
  7. Shark and Ynoa were not good although Shark had a few decent starts. He was not solid IMO.
  8. Reed got a hit and that deep fly ball to LC woulda been a home run at Guaranteed Rate Field. Right? It was on the warning track tonight. That's a HR in Chicago. So that excites me a lot more than Jon Jay for instance.
  9. That's why I want Abreu to get paid over market value. Sox have wasted a lot of cash on bad players the last many years. The guys who actually can play a bit might as well take some of Jerry's haul.
  10. I wasn't crazy about the lineup. Move up Eloy. Move down Jay.
  11. Semien and Phegley, Bassitt and Ravelo for Jeff Samardzija and Ynoa. I'd say A's win that trade.
  12. I've said before I never said I was intellectually sound. Trust me I am passionate about the Sox even if my intelligence could be questioned. Here's a trivia question that shows some Sox knowledge. What brother of a baseball Hall of Famer once played for the Sox?
  13. Thanks. I sent him a personal message apologizing. He's seemingly a very good guy like u and everybody else. GO SOX!
  14. Semien is a pretty good player. We seem to struggle against Oakland a lot. If we win this series I'd be impressed. I looked it up but couldn't find how many years in a row they've won the season series vs. us and by how much.

Damn. Did anybody get arrested? Did you hurt your hand cause of fist to the other guy's body or face? Or did u fall? Don't answer if I'm out of line. Hope u are not in great pain. Did u have to go to hospital or just get some heavy duty excedrin for the pain?
  16. Don't worry. I'll stop defending my position on this now. If it angers you that badly I'm done with it. It's not worth getting banned. Sorry if my opinions are so different from yours.
  17. Maybe I consider your takes on Jose ridiculous but I'm polite enough to not call you on it aggressively.

You sound like a sharp guy, congrats. I would say finish your courses then talk to whoever is closest to the top at your current company to see if your new degrees qualify you for a better job with your current company. It's kind of disconcerting your wife is ready to start a family u said and you are not quite set on what you want to do for a living in the long haul. Your wife is a teacher so I'd assume her school will let her take up to six weeks off once she has the first child. Or maybe 3 months? From reading your post, it unfortunately sounds like you are not thrilled with your current job/company and are sort of seekign something else. From your telling us about your earlier interest in journalism and broadcasting, it sounds as if you are not in a good place in knowing what job you truly are called for. My gut feeling is you should finish your courses and speak to your company higher ups then get another job either with your company or another using the new degrees you have. There's really nothing else you can do unless you want to go full bore back into broadcasting or try to be the school counselor you might want to be. Keep us posted! Sorry if my advice was bad.

Sorry about that. Must be so painful. How did this happen? Best wishes.
  20. Nobody ever plays devil's advocate and says, 'what is what greg says is true?' Being close minded is huge these days. Why not expand your horizons and try to figure out where I'm coming from. I'm just totally offended the team wouldn't try to improve on that first half and catch fire with Robert, Eloy, Moncada, Abreu, McCann, Leury and an adequate bullpen and kick some butt and get in the race. When somebody literally lists our three best players, or three of our top players, and suggests flipping them, believe it or not some fans don't like that. For instance if I had season tickets I'd really be mad. p.s. There's also no reason we couldn't actually pick up a veteran starter or two from somewhere if we were trying to build on our first half. Hahn's job is so easy it's unreal. He makes the 3 obvious trades (fathom, caulfield, etc could have traded Q, Eaton, etc. for a nice haul) and signs some truly horrible players in offseasons while waiting for the young to get to the bigs. Not everybody out there lives for losing, and stockpiling alleged talent, folks.
  21. For integrity of the game. You are actively taking a contender (if we called up Robert and Madrigal) and killing the bullpen and we know how valuable the bullpen is. It's just too obvious. If we were 30 below .500 or whatever we were last year that'd be different.
  22. I said IF we trade those 3 players, three of our best players, with no intent to pursue winning. Winning is the purpose of playing the game. If you don't try to win you are impacting the integrity of the game in many ways: I mean cmon, a couple games under .500 and trading your best 2 bullpen pieces and arguably your best hitter? LOL.
  23. Take a stand against tanking. There's no reason a team just a few under .500 would trade arguably 3 of its best players with no intent to help this year's team. I would hope he had the power to strip us of a few draft picks next year, maybe our second round, fourth round, sixth round picks. I wouldn't even be upset if he took our first round pick. This would be blatant disregard for winning and teams that face us would have a decided advantage. Anybody with me?
  24. That's why I think the commissioner should step in if we trade Bummer, Colome and/or Abreu. At one point does the league penalize you for blatant tanking. I mean in the old days we'd still be considered in the race. Now we're a seller possibly.
  25. Surely somebody has asked Ricky about Collins' role. What is his role right now? If we didn't have McCann I think everybody would be more hopeful about Collins.
