  1. I didn't start the thread. But if we remain .500 at the all star break, a lot of people assess grades at that point. The grade, folks, for Rick Renteria would be A if we are .500 at the break. I don't even see how you would give him an A-minus if we are .500. Every manager makes tactical errors that anger the smarter fans. In Rick's case, the W/L's are very important considering the roster. A .500 record in this specific case would give him an A. OK, manager of the year contender may be going a little far. I sense some don't even want to say that at this point he deserves an A for his work this season.
  2. Love Hibbard's advanced stats about Abreu. Haters ignore Hibbard proving Abreu is not only productive to the non Sabes lovers (me, who loves his HRs and RBIs) as well as advanced stat lovers. I wish people would let Abreu be and let him be Abreu. His batting average will sink (don't know why stat lovers are looking at BA anyway) and it will go up. He knocks in a lot of runs; I'm still not sure why stat lovers hate the traditional RBI stat. It seems a sign of production to me.
  3. Good post. You could leave the game completely alone or tinker. There are two big proposed changes meant to combat Sabes a bit, the elimination of the shift and making relievers face more than one hitter. I agree with you that the purist doesn't want to touch the game, but something has to be done. A movie is 1:50 or 2 hours normally, maybe 2:10 if it's got a director who can't cut much stuff. Nine inning baseball games shouldn't be going 3:15. It's fun to stay for the whole game but 3 hours is dumb. I guess I could take it if they don't change the reliever rule or the shift rule if the umps would call the strikezone which is in the rulebook. Umps won't abide by the current rules, they created their own strikezone. If umps agreed to calling the correct strikezone and we had a rule hitters could not leave the batters box once they got in, I'd be OK leaving the shift and letting relievers face just one hitter.
  4. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and assume somebody just missed it this time. Probably had the weekend crew working on a Friday night. Eloy's six RBI's can't be ignored, had to be a mistake or something overlooked via human error.
  5. Eloy baby. Jose! Gio! Ricky! Mr. Hahn, get the team a couple starters and another bat (oh how I wish we had you know who). Nice job Sox. .500 is pretty nice midway through June. The Cell is not dead this weekend. Lotta fans. Love Bennetti for agreeing with me as well.

I'd love to hear some stories about the 8 a.m. start of the day and the 5 p.m. end of the day. Is this still a thing? Where bosses pull this crap Jack mentioned? Like if you get in at 8:06 and it's a major deal? Anybody have horror stories? I can't even imagine as a grown person getting lit up for arriving at 8:03 a.m. My question is: Do any of you have horror stories like Jack about getting chewed out over say 10 minutes here and there? I would think an employee would start working on the resume any time such a butt chewing happened. Seems silly to me. I would guess in Chicagoland where there's tons of traffic it has to be really tricky trying to make it thru traffic and accidents, etc. I'd think you'd always have to plan for an extra hour (ugh) just to make sure you get there in time when there's snow, traffic, accidents on the highway, etc.
  7. OK, not to brag but Jason just said what greg has said about Eloy and the all star game!!!! What do u say to that?? Geezus some people think I have no knowledge at all. Jason Bennetti just said what I said!!! I'll leave before I get in trouble but return to see your apology! GO SOX!
  8. If he hadn't gotten hurt he'd prolly have 15 HRs. And isn't there another couple weeks before the players are picked? Hmmm....
  9. My other lovable Avi baby is leading off tonight for T. Bay. Two ribbies.
  10. You are supposed to market young stars, sir. What's wrong with my take? Chicago is a big market. Market those 2 future stars.
  11. I wonder why I love so many players/coaches that u guys hate. Wish I could join the majority at some point.
  12. You guys are being too harsh at Ricky tonight. Look at the big picture, please. This team is .500 provided it doesn't blow the lead. This team. ...
  13. This is pretty neat. If Lucas starts the all star game and Eloy makes the team ... the announcers are going to be talking White Sox a lot. Don't discount Eloy making it if baseball is smart. 11 HRS and going up.
  14. Wat's it doing raining in Chicago. Weather here has been gorgeous and u always get our weather eventually, a day or so later.
  15. I wouldn't trade Eloy for both Harper and Manny right now, if that was possible. Stay healthy, Eloy. The world is yours.
  16. Send Hahn an email. No excuse to not go for it with so many teams tanking out there and baseball so weak. GO SOX! Eloy baby!
  17. I like the way he hits so many HRS to CF. Pitchers better beware. Those liners can take pitchers' head off.
  18. OMG. What a blast. Uh, do what you have to do to make the playoffs, Sox. Time to buy some starters! He is a god, small g.
  19. Eloy misses the cookie. He'll hit it someday tho. He's stupendous IMO
  20. Got to switch that to an error. Cmon.
  21. I think the whole shift thing is sickening. Just think if you were on a high school baseball team on down. You come to the plate as a lefthanded hitter. 3 infielders are on the right side and one lone soul near shortstop. Simple physics tells you if you plop it down no way the pitcher or one infielder can get you out. So guess what??? You bunt there EVERY TIME and get a hit every time. If I were the manager I'd bench any kid who didn't bunt that way. Ditto major leagues. DO IT!!! Just bunt.
  22. Granted teams that win the titles usually get manager of the year. Sometimes, however, overachieving teams' managers are considered. As of today, one game under .500, Renteria has as much claim to the award as anybody. One game under .500? With this team that has a ton of holes offensively, defensively and both in starting pitching and bullpen. Maybe not manager of the year considering the Twins are rolling and other teams are winning divisions, but .... you cannot deny one game under .500 for this team gets Ricky a lotta votes. At least grade his performance. He gets a firm, solid A from greg at this time. Could change if we revert to expectations.

Your only option is Uber/Lyft. Go to an expert and calculate how much you have to drive in order to justify car wear and tear. You can write off your car expenses I believe. Sorry you can't control yourself around your bosses. Another option would be to put an ad online and be a dog walker or somebody who will take care of animals when folks go on vacation. If you could get several dogs a week and 20 dollars an hour, do the math. You'll make some cash and work for yourself. Or a lot of grocery stores now need delivery people. You take the orders and select the groceries then drive them to the folks' house for $$. Have you found anything yet Jack?
  24. Poor Alonso won't adjust so when he hits the ball it's into the shift. Too bad it appears to be against baseball's unwritten rules to just bunt the ball every time and get hit after hit against the shift. The shift should actually be against baseball's unwritten rules since players refuse to attempt to beat the shift.
