  1. That's neat he's with us Opening Day now that he's signed up. Not so sure it's smart to pay guys who have yet to reach the bigs but it's not my money. Hope he's as good a hitter as I think he'll be.
  2. Not to be an alarmist, but this is not a White Sox problem. Pitchers arms on the whole can't handle modern day baseball or any kind of baseball. There's just way too many arm surgeries. I wonder what the percentage is now for pitchers who pitched in college, the minor leagues and/or the major leagues. Do studies show a SIGNIFICANT percentage are having surgery at 23 or 24? Seems like between the last pitch in college and 2nd year in the bigs there's a huge percentage undergoing surgery. If I'm mistaken, so be it. PTATC if you want to write an essay on your theories and what you know in terms of percentages and why, why why this is happening, I'd read it and be grateful and someday buy you a beer or soft drink at a game.
  3. Don't understand the need to sign him this early. Let him have 200 at bats or so.
  4. I would never ignore caulfield. He is one of my idols.
  5. Chitown: I don't think you have to drag bunt it. You have so much time, just completely shift your body and give away the fact you are bunting. There's so much open space you'll still beat out the bunt try. No need to drag it. Just plop it out there. One guy can't cover the whole left side of the diamond when a lefty is batting.
  6. Get ready for some Greg anger: Avi!! Avi!! Avi!! The guy is a hard worker and just hit a bomb. Makes absolutely no sense to give up on Avi when he's blocking nobody. Thanks Mr. Hahn. https://www.tampabay.com/sports/2019/03/11/rays-journal-avisail-garcia-goes-deepest-on-6-homer-day-tommy-pham-scratched-from-lineup/
  7. I am anti tank, ron883, but as you know I love Abreu. Because of my love of certain players, I don't get mad regarding their deficiencies too often. I do despise the opener. It sickens me. But I love Abreu and Avi. I don't mind seeing Avi/Abreu butcher some plays since we are tanking/gonna finish last, etc. I am anti tank but I "accept the tank" is happening. (I need to look up and see how Avi is faring this preseason).
  8. You have interesting posts, Jack, but they are kind of wild IMO.
  9. I got a feeling we're going to be big free agent players (for the non whales) starting this offseason. They better be better than Alonso, Jay, McCann types!!!
  10. Geez. Another one (probably) bites the dust, at least for a while. Ugh.
  11. It makes absolutely no sense except the ol' tanking thing.
  12. Geez, I know people think I care about unimportant things sometimes but geez ... who cares? Our team is going to stink. Let Abreu play first this season. There's absolutely no reason to play Yonder there. Accidents happen. He got hurt. Big deal. He'll be back.
  13. Please baseball, outlaw the shift. The shifting must stop since baseball players for the most part refuse to bunt the ball where there's a lot of open space to combat the shift. Is it against baseball's unwritten rules to bunt to break the shift? Or is it simply not manly? Left handed pull hitters try to pull the ball no matter the fact there are three players on the right side including a second baseman in right field. Sad. All they gotta do is shift their body completely and bunt it to third.
  14. Rock bottom is still coming at some point this season. I disagree with those who think we'll win more games this year than we did last year. The team is noticeably weaker unless Eloy's excellence matters THAT much to this year's W/L record. Let's hope our prospects stay healthy. However I am convinced rock bottom is not here yet. Let's hope our lineup isn't SO bad and our starters SO bad that we go 5-25 in April or something. That would be rock bottom.
  15. I'm still waiting for an apology to Greg for the God remark by somebody. I didn't understand caulfield's response. I don't think he was blasting me.
  16. You know, I don't really understand the Sox letting Avi go when he's still not blocking anybody. The way things turned out they coulda given him his 5-10 million for this year and let him hit cause a.) the front office has money to burn and b.) the replacements blow chunks. Not to beat a dead horse, but John Jay may wind up our worst regular since Erstad (not hyperbole I don't think). I do think Jay will be booed this season and that's sad because i'm sure he's probably a nice guy, etc. But cmon. It's insulting to let that guy have 450 at bats when Avi baby coulda had them. Fans know Avi and give him another year to see if he can repeat 2 years ago. Even if he sucked Sox again had money to burn. Pay Avi, not Jay and Alonso and McCann.
  17. To be candid, I like any criticism on here of the front office cause i'm so sick of bad baseball on the south side. I will eternally be grateful for 05 but this is disgusting stuff going on.
  18. Avi's not getting a lot of love on here, mostly love from greg.
  19. i love the new balta who gets mad at the front office. I agree with this post but I'd never punch anybody. I always think we can compete in this crap division with some EFFORT from the front office.

The Sox have picked up several veterans in the tail ends of their careers who stunk. Are three of those who might be the best in that category Seaver, Koosman and Jim Kaat? Didn't all three excel as White Sox despite advanced age and making names with other teams? Fisk too, but didn't the Sox acquire him only at 32 or so? Ancient today but not back then. Raines might fall in this category. He was good with Chicago, too. Who am I forgetting that actually excelled with the Sox after making names with other teams? Some who stunk: Santo, Kessinger, Bobby Bonds, Griffey, Carlton. It's still hard to believe Ron Santo played for the White Sox. He had to have severe mixed emotions.
  21. Most people I know are cheap and no way they'd pay for tickets to see a team this lousy. Free tickets? Sure, they'd go but still they'd be so cheap they wouldn't want to pay for parking. I personally don't mind spending a buck on good seats, but my concern is comfort. I don't wanna go if there's a good chance of rain or if it's below 45 degrees over above 90 degrees if the team blows chunks.
  22. It makes you wonder what the offseason strategy really was. They acted like they wanted Manny and/or Harper. But all their acquisitions for our young team were old stiffs. Very weird. I can't imagine Hahn and Jerry want to lose 100 games again but maybe Jerry fell in love with the low payroll/high profit season. McCann, Jay and Alonso are guys nobody wants to see play baseball at the MLB level. I mean at least Avi and Davidson were recognizable names and I'd have to believe I'm not the only fan who loved both those guys. There must be others.
  23. Yeah it reminds me of all those bad Baltimore teams a few years ago.
  24. Interesting that the Chicago police chief has been so outspoken in explaining the charges and blasting Smollett. It's let Smollett's lawyer, Mark Geragos, claim nobody is presuming innocent until proven guilty. Is it a little unusual for police to be this vocal against an alleged criminal? It's like our police force is explaining everything he did without letting the system do its thing: innocent til the trial. There's a chance he is deemed innocent if this goes to jury trial u know. Geragos: "I haven’t seen one piece of evidence and they don’t have one piece of evidence that they’ve turned over that links Jussie to this. What they do have is a great case against the two brothers….What do they have besides their word that he is in on this.” There are so many twists and turns with high profile cases in this day and age I would think there would be caution here. I admit it looks bad for the actor, but Geragos obviously thinks there's no evidence and Jussie is gonna be just fine.
