  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 04:20 PM) Good lord, how did the idea that advanced stats LIKED James Shields somehow enter into your head? Greg's bad. Here's my brain's thought process. Nobody's getting all over KW/Hahn for giving up Tatis for Shields so I assumed his advanced stats were good at the time of the trade cause Hahn lovers on here cite advanced stats a lot. That's my bad if his advanced stats reeked at the time of the deal. Don't get me wrong. I'm OK with Hahn. Not OK with Shields topping the rotation.
  2. Do you agree with advertisers showing their displeasure with TV hosts by pulling their ads from the shows? Folks boycotted The View when Behar said Pence hearing from God was a sign of "mental illness." Ingraham who I've never heard of til this had advertisers take away their ads when she got on a Parkland student for getting rejected by a few college admissions departments. My other question/comment is that the Behar thing offended me. I've complained about how the left and Hollywood blasts/mocks Christians all the time. Behar went too far. Like Pence said, God does speak to him. Many Christians believe God speaks to them, directs them and they are not mentally ill. I've brought this up before and the liberals on here have gotten mad at me. I say if some View host said something similar about Muslims or Jews or Jehovas Witnesses, she'd be off the air. But christians are fair game to blast all the time. You can't be a believer without getting hit from all sides for praying to the invisible man, just ask Bill Maher. I'm glad NBC had the guts to air Jesus Christ Superstar on Easter. A step in the right direction for believers IMO.
  3. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 04:53 AM) I really don't want to move Avi. Dude is 26 and is legitimately one of the best hitters in professional baseball. You don't want EVERY player to be rookies...having a leader like Avi when that window really opens will be worth more than some prospects. You figure the Sox will be LEGIT in 2 years, Avi is 28, in the prime of his career. Unless someone gives us a ridiculous overpay he should stay in Chicago and we build around HIM and the kids. Amen. Glad to see a lot of people coming to their senses on here. Avi and Abreu must be a part of this team when it hits contention mode. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 03:36 PM) Couldn't agree more Not sure why so many people are so eager to ship these guys Cause Robert and Eloy are coming before long. And maybe Rutherford. People want the unknown. They are turned off by known commodities.
  4. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 06:15 PM) What do you want Greg? It was one game. Phil Humber threw a perfect game once. I'm not sure what I want. I'm just surprised a guy bangs three homers and there's little more than a yawn. What if he woulda hit four? Would he have gotten some unrequited love on here or still a lot of ... he can't keep it up. He's at best a 100 game a year guy on our next WS contending team?
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 03:28 AM) Bunting is stupid period Our manager likes the bunt, though. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 05:32 AM) Last I heard for the forecast, it was something like 30 degrees with 2 inches of snow coming. We got the 2 inches. Crazy there were a lot of wrecks. Hate to trash your car as late as April 1 cause of ice/snow.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 02:46 AM) As Bennetti is saying, it's not a matter of "who's the closer", but the Sox employing smarter modern logic and using their best reliever against the opposition's best hitters. I like it I can buy that logic. Sounds OK to me. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 04:31 AM) I’m going to say it, he sucks I like Benetti. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 05:29 AM) He just does nothing for me. He’s got no calling card like you say and I just ignore him honestly. That is a weird exchange you had That was a weird exchange. Maybe he was struck speechless by the beard that day.
  7. QUOTE (Quin @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 08:24 AM) Don't you...hate relying on prospects? I'm a Sox fan so I go along with what the team wants to do. The difference is I issue blame where I see it. And Shields was the wrong veteran pitcher to add. Why? He stinks IMO, advanced stats be darned.
  8. QUOTE (Spartans Rock @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 06:09 AM) Tuffy Rhodes hit 3 opening day homeruns too!! And that was off freaking Doc Gooden. He finished the year with 8, and got banished to Japan. Point being, Gooz Fraba!!!!!!!!! George Bell did it too. It's still an amazing day. I'm just surprised there's no glee for anybody on here besides Moncada and all the guys who were acquired the last year or so for the rebuild. I guess Davidson is a little too old for anybody but a few of us to get excited. I was happy with all the bombs. Timmy appears to be ready for a superstar season now that he's dealt with the loss of a cherished friend. And Abreu remains great and Davidson just continues to hit homers (I understand he Ks a lot, but...)
  9. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 06:51 AM) Shields had KW written all over it. I should have said the front office then, my bad. I just don't get the connection between winning and trading Tatis. It's a screwup but not because of the W/L record. People made the decision to deal him.
  10. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 06:29 PM) I hope that wasn't the only 3-hit game we'll get out of Davidson for the next few months. I don't know if there was a hidden negativity in this post or if you are a big fan just hopeful he'll have more three-hit games. I for one am amazed that there's not a thread praising the bleep out of Davidson. The man just hit 3 home runs on opening day for gawd sakes. This is a monumental feat. Sox fans should be rejoicing about this feat and Anderson's two home runs and Abreu's dinger (he's a slow starter sometimes) instead I'm reading more about how Moncada SHOULDA COULDA had four hits if he had any luck at all. I guess my love of Davidson, Abreu and Avi is gonna continue to get me in trouble with posters. I could watch replays forever of those home runs. My gosh they were all blasted.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 09:29 PM) Yep, also cost us Tatis Jr. Ugh. Sox lost Tatis Jr. because the GM traded him in a stupid move. Why does Hahn get such a free pass on here? If you are being serious, I would be amazed. It's a stretch to blame the Sox for starting quickly and the GM thinking he was adding a piece for the playoffs. I blame the guy who made the trade.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 04:26 AM) Good job Greg. I hope you are right for the duration of the season Thanks Rock. Me too. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 04:26 AM) One game, Greg. Like someone else said, let's see a sustained improvement in walk rate and K rate before we get too excited. It was certainly nice to see the power display, today, though. I love his story. Perseverance and all he's done the last year and change is HIT. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 04:40 AM) Nope, im on the Greg train here. Switch came on. I love Matt Davidson.
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 12:54 AM) Davidson was red hot to start last year and then cratered, so i'm tempering my expectations. All I want to see from him is less K's. Say by the end of April, his K rate is at or below 30% - then you can start to get excited. Not to be a dick who pats myself on the back but do you all give me credit for my Davidson love? As you know I praised him all last year and got blasted for doing so.
  14. As a Davidson lover, I feel very good about this performance. But so many offensive stars. My gosh the long ball! If Davidson and Anderson are truly stars, look out. Goodjob, White Sox.
  15. If you are right and the bullpen is actually good, it changes everything. We win a ton more games.
  16. Thanks to the owners for all you do. Tell the truth ... did you ever miss ol Greg during the past month or so? I know I got detoxed and it should be interesting to see if I am a whole new poster. I forgot how mean/ornery I can be. I am purged of hate.
  17. Light question: I know how much Trump is hated. Let's say his people phoned your house and he and his wife wanted to come to your house for dinner as part of a presidential visit to the public, would you a.) agree and have dinenr for him. b.) refuse out of principal of what he stands for or c.) politely say you have other plans.
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 10:00 PM) Having de Leon in office is going to make it easier for President Sanders to get that single payer bill passed in the Senate. If only Bernie was 15 years younger. He'd win. Ditto Biden. Fountain of youth needed.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 11:05 PM) Good news if if they sign Moustakas, he will offset Yoan's insane called looking totals. He really does need to learn how to protect I like fathom's post about technical stuff with hitters/pitchers. Fathom has no interest in posting in the offseason, but he's baaaacccccckkkkkk again.
  20. QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 09:53 PM) We've pretty much exhausted this debate on whether, or not, to sign Moustakas. Here is my personal opinion and conclusion: I advocate signing Moustakas to a 4 or 5 year contract, if he can be acquired for $12 Million per year, or less. Here is my argument: 1) 5 years covers his age 29 through 33 seasons, still prime years. 2) 3RD base is the one hole, which needs filling, now and into the foreseeable future. I love Yolmer, but he is not a middle of the order hitter 3) He provides a much needed solid LH, middle of the order, power bat 4) His 38 homers, in 2017, are a KC record and the 24 HR's, in just 74 games, on the road, are very impressive. He should be a force at Guaranteed Rate Field. 5) While he doesn't walk at an ideal rate, his strike outs are very respectable, for a true power hitter. His 2017 94 Strike outs, with 38 HR's and a .531 Slugging % was among the best in baseball. We would all like a better OBP, but if he possessed one, he would be a $20 million per year player. 6) His 2015 stats were very consistently solid, with the exception of his July .188 AVG., immediately following the time that his mother lost her struggle with cancer. He took two family leaves during that time. That .188 was more than 100 points lower than the rest of his season. If you take out that month, of understandable emotional stress, he hit .302. 7) That contract would be very reasonable, relative to today's market, and would not preclude another major commitment 8) He would not block any top prospect, currently in the organization. 9) He has valuable Post Season experience 10) Good club house guy 11) Before his knee injury, his defense was rated better than average, and he is now another year further removed from knee surgery and should be an adequate defender. 2019 Lineup, versus RHP: 2B Moncada RF Avi 1B Abreu 3B Moustakas LF Eloy SS Anderson C Navaerez/Narvaez DH Delmonico/Davidson CF Defense First, take your pick?????? That's my perspective. Anyone care to summarize an opposing view? Great post. I'm assuming Sox aren't pursuing him heavily or we'd have heard more. The Hosmer to SD thing was in the news all the time as it brewed. Moose makes too much sense for Chicago. Damn, if we sign him to a five-year 60 million deal he'll be easily movable if he doesn't suddenly start sucking. I'd even be OK with 5 years, 70 million. Why not? Most of our young guys will be cheap and we can sign some pitchers with the $$$ we save from not inking Machado. Nice post, sir.
  21. I was talking to a big baseball numbers guy and he said the White Sox would be fools to not sign Moustakas. Look, we are not getting Machado. I guess the Sox COULD get him if they over-bid by a big margin his beloved Yankees but cmon. We're not getting Machado. The Sox would have to be bound and determined to win a huge bidding war and history doesn't suggest we get our man in such scenarios (resisting the temptation to blast our owners since we did sign Robert). If the Sox can get Moustakas 2 years 24 million total or something like that, even five years 60 million why not sign him?? He appears to be a proven hitter (he's not a stiff even by advanced stats and has WS experience) and the Sox could solidify third base. It used to be fun to pencil in Ventura every year for a decade. If the Sox want to "flip" him which is what most of our fans like, then do that. The contract shouldn't scare any contenders. The lineup somebody posted the other day for our Sox is scary bad. Why not take care of 3B following the bad news on Burger? There's no downside. The people who like to flip players can hold out hope he'll be traded before our contending years and those of us who like to win now will feel better about our lineup with him in it.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 11:02 PM) I actually agree with Greg on this. Let's figure out what the true cost of protecting our schools will be if we do nothing else on guns. Once the thought of raising taxes is proposed, maybe then people will be outraged enough to do something about it. Thanks, Soxfan. I was thinking the tax hike would outrage people to do something, as you wrote. That did cross my mind as well. I want the kids protected. If you watched the kids speak on TV, they were pissed. One of them said they are coming and they will overturn the system someday when they get elected to office. They know it's ridiculous to have these guns on the street and they will change the laws to protect their kids but it may take years til they become our politicians.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 03:35 PM) https://www.mlb.com/news/projected-2018-lin...ams/c-266895088 Projected lineups/rotations for all 30 teams as of today Leury, LF Moncada, 2B Abreu, 1B Avi Garcia, RF Delmonico, DH Castillo, C Anderson, SS Engel, CF Sanchez, 3B That would leave Davidson, Saladino, Narvaez as bench... Noticed Clayton Richard as #1 for Pads, haha. No starting spot for Zobrist or Happ...but one has to start against RHP. Dodgers still with outfield logjam. Folks, even if all those hitters projected to have average to fine seasons, that is one anemic lineup. Can I suggest we are gonna be in the bottom 3-5 in runs scored this season? That doesn't bode well with our bullpen. I look at that lineup over and over and see anemia. You?
  24. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 06:30 PM) At his age, I have full confidence he'll return. There's never a guarantee but I would bet one of Greg's houses on it. Hi ptatc. You seem like a good guy. Love your medical posts. As far as the injury no way am I gonna go there and make a comment.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 09:52 PM) How many national guards do you propose for each school? Do we reverse the recent tax breaks to pay for this? Until we can get laws changed, as many as needed. Private schools will have to double their tuition. Public schools, tax the public to pay for the guard. Maybe it will force the politicians to get the guns off the streets. There is absolutely no reason to have these weapons in the public's hands.
