  1. I still say you guys are wasting a lot of breath here. It's pretty obvious to me we'll be trading Abreu this offseason. Get used to the idea. It's happening IMO. In fact it seems like a front office no brainer considering what they've been doing and hinting as well. I fully expect him to be traded. Avi as well. After those two are dealt, the deals are done and it will be Hahn's baby completely. He'll be in full tank mode for 2 more seasons, 2018 and 2019 and then it will be time to win. He still might keep his job regardless of if we win the division in 2020 or not considering all the $$ he'll have saved the owners with attendance remaining pretty darn high. Plus don't forget he'll have a high draft pick next June as well as June of 2019 and 2020. That's three more top 5-15 draft picks. Our fans seem to be into this rebuild thing. I will say Rick Renteria had the boys playing very hard the last six weeks or so and if they continue to play hard that's probably all we can ask til 2020. GO SOX!
  2. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 06:48 PM) I would think it's the exact opposite. Throwing 6 innings is more stressful than one inning two straight days. Rodon to me seems destined for the bullpen. Do you know who you are disagreeing with? Ptatc is a medical expert! He knows this stuff. Any medical info you need he is the guy to provide the info. He's either a doctor or something in the medical field. He knows his s***.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 12:18 AM) What does everyone make of the Warren Moon case? Seems the pendulum is going to swing back the other direction...that no married men (especially) dare hire any woman that's slightly attractive because the potential for things to blow up is too high to take a chance. From reading some of the background, it seems like the woman in the case was very ambitious (which is fine, in and of itself, for men or women)...but that she allowed herself to be put in situations that would potentially be compromising, that she had some sort of inappropriate relationship with Moon, she traveled with him/stayed in a resort or hotel room on at least one or more occasions, it went south, she was demoted and then she's now seeking revenge/compensation. After any workplace relationship goes wrong, does that mean that "sexual harassment" is now the umbrella for anything that's remotely inappropriate happening at work? Moon's got a very spotty track record, I think there was a case of domestic violence/battery in his past (already)...my point is more along what PTAC's been arguing, these cases are very hard to "prove" one way or the other in a court of law, so what's going to settle in as the accepted standard? Is there one standard for celebrities/elite/rich/athletes/politicians (usually settled out of court), and another for "regular" workers? My comment would be I'd like to think if a man boss behaves himself properly and does not sexually harass those who work for him ... I'd like to believe he'd avoid problems for himself with the company and/or the court system. Seriously. If you behave yourself I still have confidence in our legal system and I'd think companies would not fire the bosses without proper investigations. If you are innocent you have nothing to worry about I'd still like to believe (I can't believe I'm standing up for the suits here; I am normally not a huge fan of those CEOs who run certain businesses and the ultra rich certainly don't need Greg's support). But anyhow I can be naive, but I'd like to believe the law has your back if you are not guilty of sexual harassment. I'm sure there are many cases of people, men and women both, saying they got harassed to either a.) try to get some $$$ settlement or b.) get even with the boss for rude behavior. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 01:05 AM) CNN/WaPo working on a story that 20-30 congress members about to be outed for sexual harassment/misconduct. Supposed to drop very soon Seriously? That is a fricking lot of congress members. Kick 'em all to the curb if they guilty. And I think Access Hollywood should release the Trump tape. Why not? have him say it out loud so we can get him impeached. Bernie baby in 2020!
  4. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 07:16 PM) I do think the resignation was the right move for the party, but otherwise, for once, I think you're right. Twas a bad speech. My "problem" is he obviously wants to continue on and he says he is fully confident the Ethics Committee would have cleared him. He also in his only reference to his accusors was the fact he says he remembers the incidents differently but at the same time respects women enough that he needed to allow them to say what they felt happened did indeed happen. Well, my guess is there will be more Al Frankens having to resign. Trump obviously should resign as well just because of the Access Hollywood interview. If he really said he grabs women intentionally, etc., he should get the boot as well. Him saying it's just locker room talk is kind of weak. there will be many more resignations to come over these type incidents is my guess. But Franken did not want to quit. That's obvious. And if he was going to be cleared by the Ethics Committee as he felt, why not stay? He did say he wouldn't have time to do both his job and defend himself but I dont know about that. If he was going to resign he probably should have apologized at least. Of course if he admits guilt in any of these instances it could open him up to lawsuits.
  5. Two takes on Franken after hearing his speech. a.) he didn't want to resign. Clearly he did not want to give up this job so he shouldn't have. He should have forced them to have a hearing, etc. Because again, he clearly didn't want to quit. b.) If he was going to quit, which he did, he should have not given such a ridiculous speech in which he takes no blame and merely pulls a Kathy Griffin by saying Trump and Moore are bad, too. Not a strong effort, Al. I wouldn't call his speech very classy.
  6. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 06:35 PM) We better be competitive in two years. If we are Jose Abreu is the offensive force to lead the young talent to a championship Love El Rockin. Best fan ever. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) I sure can understand where you are coming from, but if we keep trading our best players especially team leaders like Abreu we find ourselves in perpetual rebuilding. I do agree with extending him and Avi Garcia. The concerns about injuries and such are just part of the game El Rockin baby! Keep posting.
  7. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) According to this, China would be more likely to take N. Korea's side. https://amp.businessinsider.com/china-north...cise-us-2017-12 If China takes North Korea's side, trouble is brewing. I wonder what a realistic scenario is of how the incident that spurs total destruction could occur. a.) Kim Jong-Un simply decides to nuke us and we immediately respond with nukes as those bombs are heading our way. China learns what's going on and launches an array of nukes at the USA mainland that effectively wipes us out. b.) We fear Kim is soon going to strike and we bomb North Korea sites of interest, factories, Kim's palaces, with more conventional bombs and then he responds with nukes to Japan, Hawaii and the US mainland. If China supports Kim in this, I fear much.
  8. Matt Lauer should have been FIRED after this interview. Fired, fired fired. He asks Hathaway what lessons can be learned from her incident? Lessons? She was trying to get out of a car and a creep photographer shot her inappropriately as she got out of the car. WTF? And his interview with Sandra Bullock in which Bullock calls him out for being a creep. "I have seen you naked?" Jerk. This guy got exactly what he deserved. Rude.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 4, 2017 -> 05:37 PM) There will be regression. it's a matter of how much regression we have been debating. Not trying to flame (you see I've been quiet lately), but your two sentences got me thinking. I wonder how many players you can say that about in terms of "regression." There will be regression? Hmmm. ... I'd say of all the players who hit over .320 and hit 25-35 home runs you can expect regression next season. Why do we rate our own so harshly? Anybody who had a GREAT season, expect regression. Give me a percentage. 80 percent of all guys expect regression? Don't eat your own.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 06:28 AM) Our racist president stopped taunting China because North Korean taunts were more ballsy and they noticed. If you have a problem with this maybe you should have voted against it. How would that be possible. My choices were Hillary vs. Trump. ... Pass. I woulda voted for Bernie though. My hope is China saves the world from thermonuclear war.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 06:27 AM) He's laughing at you for supporting a standard, multiply divorced, sexual harassed and being ok with that. You're a laughingstock. You guys act like I'm president of the Rush fan club rather than catch him on the radio while driving my 4-door car to and from lunch sometimes. Man you guys are a tough crowd. Also that's a pretty mean take from a moderator. You say someone is laughing at me and you call me a name, a laughingstock for having different opinions than yours. How do you get I'm "supporting" Rush anyway. I listened to Jim Rome's TV show for 10 minutes today for the first time in a while and if I say he predicts an all LA super bowl I guess I'm now a Rome fan. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) So, you listen to Rush and come here and post what you heard him say. "Don't shoot the messenger." But, you never post anything from other sources. I guess you wouldn't get much from the Beatles or other music channels. I suppose there might be an occasional deep political thought on one of the two comedy channels, but I haven't seen you come here and act as Jon Stewart or Lewis Black's "messenger." And, yes, that is Rush. Other sources? I'm not a fierce political take guy. For instance I think the new tax plan will lead us to another Great Depression. Yet you guys think I'm all Republican all the time when I haven't voted for a Republican candidate in forever.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) What else are we supposed to do? Just listen to the Beatles? A little Rush throughout the day is ok. Occasionally a post reveals that some people read what I'm saying. Nice. I normally think I'm ignored.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) Is that Rush? Uh oh. He shouldn't be doing that. I don't worship Rush, folks. Unlike some of you I listen to as many different viewpoints as I can in the short attention span I have regarding talk radio. I am a dial switcher; don't like commercials. Love Beatles channel. Love some other music channels and the 2 comedy channels.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 03:07 AM) I actually thought the last statement NK put out dialed back the rhetoric a touch, saying the weapons were defensive, unlike the usual messaging of "we can destroy the imperialists" I didn't like the wild celebrating of the successful launch. I hope China is noticing.
  15. Hmmm, he's 30 and had a good year last year. We have him for 3 years. Should this give me hope we will keep Abreu? If Castillo is part of the plan, why not a similarly aged guy in Abreu, who had double his RBIs? I won't comment much on things I know little about and I don't know Castillo much. I'm assuming he's a nice addition cause his defense is pretty good from what I've read. But he's very old by today's standards. This gives me hope again that we might have some vets around for the WS contending years, which means Abreu and the still young Avi. I'm all for speeding up the winning process and Castillo's profile suggests winning now or soon. He's no spring chicken. Or ... this could mean we will merely trade him this winter for more pieces.
  16. Been reading more and more about N. Korea planning on launching a nuke our way. Folks, the world will be over as we know it. And if we feel like they are really going to go through with it, I'd assume we will strike them first and it could be soon. Jong-Un is a nut. Did u see the pictures of him celebrating the last test? I guess he has a death wish for the world. I can't see Trump standing idly by.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) Eh, once you accept most HR depts view their goal as protecting the company and not the employee it is never shocking some of the routes they take. The decision wasn't "how do we protect our women employees based off of this complaint?" it was "how do we decrease our liability while keeping our accused star talent?" Makes me sick. HR departments in this role bother me greatly. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) https://www.yahoo.com/news/fifth-woman-accu...-131848124.html Now up to six for Franken. He gone. (Has to be.) And Conyers looks either crazy or just plain ornery trying to hold onto power at age 88... Those pix of Franken sicken me. He puts his face right on the woman's face as they actually are cheek to cheek in a few photos I've seen. Geez Franken. He really had a problem taking photos with women, draping his arms on their boobs, allegedly, etc. He probably needs to resign. You can't go putting your hands on people like that.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) I gotta disagree with Balta’s logic on team building. Yes, developing your own talent (especially superstar talent) is critical, but there is nothing wrong with filling multiple holes with smart free agent signings if financially possible. The Astros are a perfect example. Yes, they developed their core, but they also went out and signed Beltran, Reddick, Gurriel, & Morton to play important roles. Those four guys earned a combined $50M in 2017. And they were able to add those guys plus some expensive vets via trade (McCann, Verlander) & some pricey relievers in past years (Gregerson & Sipp) because of how little their core guys made. The White Sox should be in a similar position come next season. We could extend Abreu at $20M/per and have a big chunk of our core in place for less than $50M in total commitments. Assuming guys develop as expected, we should be incredibly active in next year’s free agent class. And I’m not just talking about filling in that “one last piece” as Balta routinely calls it. I’m talking adding impact talent where possible (hopefully Machado & an elite reliever) and then buying yourself some time until your next wave of talent is ready by signing veterans to short-term deals at crucial spots. This idea that we can’t compete until all our talent is up and has proven itself is nonsense. The goal should be build a strong foundation, add some vets while you have the financial wiggle room, and gradually introduce more talent over time to help offset escalating costs. Hahn is not going to wait until our less seasoned prospects like Robert, Rutherford, Adolfo, Cease, Burger, & Sheets are ready to start trying to compete. The moment guys like Jimenez, Collins, Kopech, & Hansen are called up our window officially begins. It will likely take a year or two for those guys to fully develop, but Hahn will most definitely try to surround them with as much veteran talent as possible as early as next year, especially since there will be a very deep free agent class to leverage. This explains my position pretty perfectly as it stands today. By trading Abreu and Avi, this thread is worthless. It means Hahn is pushing back the years of contention (in theory) as he waits for the kids to completely overhaul the everyday lineup and pitching rotation. Presumably add some vets through free agency to that 3-4 years down the road. I have a sneaky feeling they'll be bargain type veterans, taking a shot on some relievers who don't make a lot of cash. I'm assuming our payroll is going to be mighty low for some time to come. We shall see.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 03:48 AM) The details in the nyt Lauer story are horrifying, basically straight up rape https://t.co/CAb9ixM9mk Yes, horrifying. It's just awful. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 04:50 AM) What is wrong with these guys? I f***ing dont get it and never have. I don't get it either. There's one thing about a man having power and using it to attract women who are golddiggers or groupies or whatever you want to call them. But it's another thing altogether to use power to try to take advantage of women in the workplace who want no part of you and these situations. Let's just hope everybody guilty of this continues to get fired/lambasted. I mean there's something to be said about having a life's work ruined by behavior that is uncovered. Charlie Rose ... all the good work he did in his life ... wiped away. He's a scumbag (if guilty of charges). Ditto Lauer and Harvey. Like Rock said ... what is wrong with these guys???? Let's keep exposing them and getting them fired if they are guilty.
  20. The Lauer details are really bad (as are so many other cases). But geez. This guy was supposed to be Mr. Dad of the century. And he drops his pants (allegedly) and shows off his you know what to some female? She doesn't want any part of him and he gets mad?? Why do all these companies have these fake HR departments??? These women need to go to HR immediately and record the conversations and in the future get these predators fired sooner. I know it's tough to come forward. I just hope we keep hearing about these creeps who misused their power and did these things to women. Toss them all out. We won't feel sorry for them. That includes Trump. I hope if he's guilty some women come forward. And not to be partisan but Mr. Clinton sounds like he was not exactly proper at all times. My take: Shame on you Mr. Lauer if these charges are true. Abuse of power is wrong.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 04:06 AM) Name a team that has won a pennant dominantly through Free Agency. Literally the last one I've got is the 09 Yankees. That doesn't mean teams don't get some free agents, but literally everyone is using a path different from what you said. No team can make the method work that you keep saying we shoudl do. And if you would have read the post in the Avi thread only 2 or 3 posts before you talked about how "they should sign good free agents instead of bad ones", even the teams that are winning - they have free agent busts. How about your Royals, they have a pennant right? Wouldn't they prefer to no longer have Alex Gordon's contract on the books? The Cubs and that Heyward deal? If you sign 3 free agents, the odds are one of them will be a LaRoche level bust. That's how the Free Agency market works. Yankees, Dodgers, Boston, Cubs, yes Cubs, have all done fine spending moolah and getting free agents. Not everybody doing the rebuild thing has won big. Cubs rebuilt, yes, but also bought some players. I personally think 3 starting pitchers we trotted out there last year were an embarrassment to baseball. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 05:10 AM) I’m not going to justify this with an explanation since it doesn’t matter with you but no that’s my answer to your original question. Seriously? This isn't a pro-front office board? Hahn is beloved. KW for the most part is given the benefit of the doubt all the time. Meanwhile for some reason Ozzie is destroyed and some of my favorite players destroyed (I know I know Ozzie quit on the team). QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 06:05 AM) Seriously GreggiePoo, why are you still frequenting this site? I honestly can't recall a time when you've done anything other than complain. That's just not true. Again do some research on threads. I stand up for my favorite players for sure and I argue against some of the current vision of the front office, butI don't complain always. Did you read my long reply on the future lineup/roster? I listed players at each position gave my takes. Nobody responds to my normal reaction posts. Some people get me; most don't. I'm a great Sox fan IMO.
  22. Q-What do you think of Burger? Now he played at a mid major school. Do you think the White Sox took him higher than he should reasonably have gone in the draft? Do you like his skill set offensively and defensively? Give me a realistic comparison to a big leaguer. Who is Burger? Thank u.
  23. QUOTE (Scoots @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 03:18 AM) Anyone else feel like this Jose Abreu trade talk is way at overrated? Maybe because of the extremely slow off-season and this was the only remotely interesting thing that anyone could latch on to? No. When Dick Allen heard Hahn speak and Hahn wasn't enthused about Avi or Abreu, I knew both would be gone this winter. It will happen. Dick was there. He heard it.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:39 PM) Dude...just...I don't know anymore. You can't admit this board is EXTREMELY happy with anything the front office does? This is a pro front office message board. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:44 PM) So why are you so insistent on the strategy of "Compete and win as much as you can" that we used from 2006-2016? Because we didn't execute it right. Sox have had miserable guys in Buddy Bell on the organizational level and Robin Ventura as manager. They've arguably made some of the most bonehead acquisitions ever in trying to bring in guys to win. The ONLY way to win is not trade everybody and rebuild. Some teams with cash have done just fine in adding guys to buy a pennant. I personally think our front office gets a free pass on almost everything on here.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 09:22 PM) I put in a thoughtful post with Jose's stats the last 4 seasons and still get blasted. Hard to go against the group and not get roasted. I wish you guys would be like most team's fans and rip the front office more. What have they done since 2005 to earn patience from our fan base? I am not of the opinion our young guys have to suck a year or two before we are competitive. Folks, baseball is full of mediocre to bad teams. Why not us sooner rather than later to ... win? Put some heat on the front office to develop a bullpen.
