  1. I told u guys the Cubs were a lock and to bet the house. Did anybody follow my good advice? Cubs will wrap it up. It's simple, folks. The Cubs DEFINITELY have the better team. Case closed.
  2. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 01:11 AM) One thing that hasn't really been mentioned is how little they're paying for the naming rights. As the deadspin article pointed out, this deal is $2.4 million AAV below league average. Further, if the White Sox are so cash hungry, why not keep the naming rights and change the name back to Comiskey Park, like most Sox fans want anyway, and just go forward with a full rebuild, which will put a lot more than $2 million AAV into the owners' pockets, and then go for a Citi Field-esque naming rights deal when a competitive team emerges from the talent purge? That is one, great post! Great post.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 02:04 AM) Let's imagine the doomsday (hopefully this thread disappears tonight or tmrw) scenario happens and the Cubs do win it all. On the negative side, the White Sox will practically cease to exist this offseason, and the Indians would be doubly motivated to make another run at the World Series in 2017 with Brantley, Carrasco and Santana all back in the fold, not to mention the additional veterans (like Pearce, mentioned in another thread) to supplement the current roster's few weaknesses. We've seen over and over again in sports, the team that just barely misses a title come back the next year, and, likewise, the title-winning team runs out of gas or loses its motivation and focus after all the celebrating and media attention becomes a never-ending distraction. This gives the White Sox even more cover to operate under the radar and start the rebuilding process in full. No first round draft pick protection, a scarce number of FA assets available, payroll pressures due to flat or negative revenue growth (taking into consideration discounted tickets over time) and few minor league prospects that would be in high demand for other teams. The other positives is that overall revenues/popularity (at least in the short-term) for MLB and MLB Media will grow...more young people will become interested in the sport (especially in Chicago) and a rising tide floats ALL boats, so the White Sox franchise value would actually grow by 5-10%. The positive (or negative) effect on the broadcasting rights climate in 2019 is another story altogether, although by rebuilding NOW, there's an extremely high likelihood they SHOULD have a competitive team by that time, rather than the approach of the last couple of off-seasons of trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Over the span of 5-7 years out from now (which seems like forever, in this moment), the Cubs will start to eventually lose some of the "Lovable Losers" appeal and they'll instead begin to morph into a corporate conglomerate franchise more and more like the Red Sox, Dodgers and Yankees that is judged more by wins and losses (and titles) than the touristic reasons of/for attending a game at Fenway or Wrigley. This will especially be the case if they were to win multiple WS titles or make the playoffs 3-4-5 times consecutively. Good point about Cleveland. They will desperately want to return. Unless Renteria is way better than Robin I'd expect Cleveland to own us again next year. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 03:00 AM) The Sox are done being relevant. They are now the Milwaukee Bucks or Cleveland Browns. This will be a cubs town and the Sox will just be here for s***s and giggles. Mainly, because our front office doesn't have a clue. We are irrelevant right now for sure. We blew it after 2005. The question is ... can we start contending for the postseason? Right now, no fricking way. This team totally blows entering next season. Now can they acquire some pieces (finally) to go with our playoff-caliber starting rotation? Without an unhittable reliever like Chapman and a catcher, outfielder and second baseman who can hit, forget it.
  4. It'd be nice to just ignore the corporate name and have the media and everybody call it Sox Park. Or just say "they played the game at the White Sox stadium." Or "they played the game at 35th and Shields." Why should everybody who is not affiliated with the Sox cooperate and call it Guaranteed Rate Field? They don't pay the newspapers or TV stations or radio stations to get the free plug. And it's a repulsive name. What if Playboy Magazine paid by far the most money, would they agree to call it Playboy Magazine Field?
  5. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 04:42 PM) Greg, one side of your mouth is saying he's smart and has listeners and knows what he is talking about and then, on the other side of his mouth, you talk about his schtick. Which is it? Is he a smart, politically savvy commentator? Or is he a guy who does bits? Because you can't truly be both. See Springer, Jerry. Well, he can't be smart and still do bits and/or have a schtick? I think Howard Stern is a genius and he does bits. If I have to pick one, yes, Rush is an entertainer more than an intellectual. If you are not interesting to the audience you have no show to begin with. It's funny how this all works, though. Here you definitely have a media bias toward Hillary and the left. The media definitely overall leans toward liberals and Democrats. Yet Rush, who makes a living hating on Democrats, has a show on mega stations. Doesn't that drive the owners of the radio station crazy? Yet they purchase Rush's show because he has such good ratings.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) Sounds like those people don't like the laws of our land. They can feel free to leave and go live somewhere like Saudi Arabia where abortion is outlawed. Yes but the issue is freedom of speech. The kids couldnt put up their signs Unborn Lives Matter, but the two BLM individuals were allowed to stand on stage, blow a whistle and interrupt and ruin the speech of a guest speaker. I mean DePaul 'probably' could have forced those individuals off the stage. I mean if you were at a sporting event and walked onto the court and started blowing a whistle, I'm assuming you could be arrested. Same in wrecking somebody's speech? Would DePaul arrest the BLM individuals if they tried a sit in and blew a whistle over and over at a basketball game? It's kind of the same thing. It was an organized speaking event.
  7. Without arguing about this, one neutral comment. We're talking about 30,000 emails or something on Huma's server. What's with all the emails? How does anybody get that many emails? Seriously, that's a helluva lot of emails. I guess everybody wants to communicate with government officials all the time. Think of the time they must be answering emails all day every day.
  8. What do you think of the kids at DePaul going on O'Reilly to talk about them being prevented from having signs on campus that say Unborn Lives Matter? Also at a speech last school year school officials let two BLM protestors get on stage and interrupted a speaker. Apparently the president considered stepping down. What say you all? DePaul is a helluva fine university and I'm sure school administrators don't want escalating controversy.
  9. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 03:07 AM) You realize it's the EXACT opposite from the Republican side, right? Yeah I guess you are right about that.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 04:21 AM) It's likely that up to 46% of the voting pop is going to vote for him. He is very close to the presidency. That's cause of his opponent. Folks are choosing between the two worst candidates in the history of the presidential election.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 03:07 AM) You know what? Find any excuse you want to walk around saying the N-word. Try them all out. I encourage you to do so. Go out and try it. If you don't believe it's racist, then go do it. Did you hear his segment on the N word? He was referring to the African American woman who said the word was for any male. So Rush said he could now use it. He was being a smart aleck but why racist? I prefer not to say the word. Yes I grew up hearing it from friends and relatives on the far south side but even back then I couldn't say it.
  12. I personally can't say the word, but is Rush really racist? Cmon. Just from this schtick? Again I can't say the word, but how can you call him racist for just this one take? http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/07/17/ru...t-racist-audio/
  13. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 11:56 PM) A. Why not? B. It's impossible for you to listen to him as much as you say and not know this. Why not? You hate millions of Americans who love Rush? One might be a relative of yours you know. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 12:01 AM) Want to hear him use the N-word? Want to hear him make fun of the fact that the Chinese Premier has an asian accent? His "Which team will win Survivor based on every racial stereotype you can come up with" would be funny if it weren't sick. At least you came up with some links this time. Your blanket statements were pretty offensive/inappropriate I thought. p.s. I'm afraid to click on links after what happened when I clicked on one of caulfield's.
  14. So Comey got all this praise from Democrats when he first let Hillary off the hook. Now he's getting hammered from all sides since he decided to look at the e-mails some more. You can't make this stuff up. So before, you hear all these clips of Democrats saying how stellar the FBI director is. Now ... he's the worst! He should be fired. Etc.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 11:40 PM) Look at it like the SAT essay exam. It's pretty hard to imagine questions were asked that hadn't been anticipated from either camp. You can research past debates and moderators and their styles of questioning quite easily. I would argue that Clinton actually does worse when she's overprepared, uses pretested jokes or forces soundbites, etc. Let's say there are a field of 500 possible essay questions (released items from past exams) for the SAT. Students here in China will memorize every single one and develop a strategy with three bullet points of how to handle that question. The problem is that sometimes their answers will seem too rehearsed and robotic on speaking exams...but it does work fairly well for essays. This is all pretty bad though. The person who leaked the questions should be ashamed of herself. And again, why accept the question if you are Hillary? Don't you agree little things can say a lot about a person? If she gets a leaked question shouldn't she tell the leaker to give one to Trump as well?
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) He's a racist bigoted sexist hateful terrible human being and anyone who thinks he is anything other than that is very likely in many of those same categories with him. See? What a double standard. How many Americans love and listen to Limbaugh?? Tons. You can't just says millions of Americans are scum for loving Rush. Now your first sentence is interesting. Would I face suspension on here if I rattled off a similarly mean sentence about Hillary? Or Bill? What about mean unsubstantiated stuff about Obama? You issue no proof of his racism and sexist ways. Terrible human being? How the hell do you KNOW that. He may for all we know give more money to charity than some saint. At least I backed off when told to lay off Hillary. Now I only put criticism when I have the links.
  17. Now this is amazing. Hillary accepted the leaked debate questions?? That says nothing about her character, though. She saw nothing wrong in accepting the questions. Hey, all's fair when you are the Clintons, right? She should never have accepted the questions in advance. A trustworthy person wouldn't have. These small signs add up, people. Explain this one! https://www.yahoo.com/news/cnn-cuts-ties-wi...-183855590.html
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 07:26 PM) You love listening to conspiracy theorists and you are writing one in for president. And you wonder why nobody takes you seriously..... Yeah but you can't deny my complaint. You guys blast a lot of people like Limbaugh out of pocket and I get reamed when I blast Hillary without links, etc. Limbaugh, Meghan McCain, Herman Cain, some of the people I link to ... they immediately get dismissed as kooks or horrible people. Then when I blasted Hillary on occasion without proof I got told to cut it out. I even got told to quit putting negative Hillary stuff in the Democrat thread. Why is Limbaugh so bad a source? He's rich. He has a zillion listeners like Stern.
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 06:31 AM) GUILTY. OF. WHAT? Do you watch O'Reilly? How bout all this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8muhZF9G6g
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 04:37 AM) Headline was something about chapman firing bullets I'm speechless. Don't even know what to say.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 05:14 AM) Someone's getting fired http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/10/30/aro..._medium=twitter It says page not found. What happened?
  22. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 04:13 AM) You make me sad. You don't agree that the Clintons are full of smoking guns? You don't agree the Clintons are shady characters? Why are you behind her so much? Do you even accept the fact she might be guilty? If not, why not? I am more skeptical. There's no reason to support Trump because of all the things he's said and done in his life; and there's also no reason to support Hillary. I'm not looking forward to her raising taxes on everybody, either. I want the 1 percenters out of the political game. Why don't you? MEANWHILE, Wolf Blitzer gets hot under the collar trying to save Hillary's hide on the issue http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016/10...nfo-sot-tsr.cnn
  23. LOL. They wanted to look into Hillary and Bill's foundation but nope can't do that. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/nation...omepage%2Fstory
  24. Do they still have the Prep Bowl? If Rice was smart they'd let their backup quarterback get some experience for next year in the Prep Bowl playoffs. Play the senior starter some of course, but let the returnees get some experience.
  25. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 03:47 AM) Go Cubs Go might be the most annoying song ever. It's stupidly catchy and I hate what it's trying to say. It's a horrific song. I want to know who created it? Eddie Vetter?? It's just awful. However I can see how if it's YOUR TEAM you might love the song. I get it in that regard, but if you are not a Cub fan, my gosh it is sickening to hear. QUOTE (Green Line @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 03:48 AM) Cubs fans are literally shooting off fireworks in my neighborhood. God help us, this franchise is a joke. I know what you are saying but this is the World Series. This is what Cub fans are thinking about every minute of every day. I don't blame them. They are the favorites and if they finally have their s*** together, they'll still win it. I mean the World Series is a big deal and their team is still alive. I can see celebrating.
