  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 05:05 AM) What are the odds that Sale lowers his value (pitching in an impossible situation where wins and losses don't matter) or, even worse, gets injured? How can we calculate the cost to have guys like Eaton and Sale knowing they have no chance at a playoff spot...and how that will affect other players (mood/attitude/chemistry/clubhouse environment) we might be bringing in? Not to mention Renteria wanting to put his own imprint on the young players from the very beginning. Hard to calculate, but that's a real thing as well. I think a good GM could have dealt some of these guys to contenders before the trade deadline and got way more than they're going to get now. No excuse for not trading Robertson, Melky, Avi, Frazier, our catchers, Nate Jones, Duke last season. Hope we can get a bundle of can't miss prospects for Sale this winter.
  2. With all the tweets and gotcha moments in the campaign, isn't it obvious the public is fighting back against PC? We just elected a person who offended almost everybody imaginable on social media. People are sick of the PC stuff. Again, Trump offended everybody and the country elected him president yet we're just waiting for the next 'gotcha' tweet posting.
  3. The Sox deserve all the mocking. If they don't acquire the right young players, this rebuild may be mocked as well. I can't believe the Sox don't a.) hire the best proven manager possible and b.) go the free agent route to fill holes with GOOD players. If we had an excellent manager and just a few more good players, we'd be a perennial playoff team. Now we have to have this manager 3-4 years during the rebuild. My hope is someday we hire a difference maker manager like Maddon or Francona.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:49 PM) She IS challenging them publicly by being involved in the recount process. Just because she is lying to the people about it, doesn't make it true. Great post. The Clintons need to go away the problem is so does Trump.
  5. I love Obama the Sox fan. Does he have enough money to be any kind of White Sox owner?? He's not rolling in cash is he? I don't think so anyway.
  6. So if you are Kubiak do you try a 62 yard field goal, knowing if he misses it KC will very likely win the game? I think if he doesn't try the field goal he gets reamed on talk radio and social media and fans rip him a new one. However ... a 62-yard field goal?? I guess he was able to go for it and not take any heat because of the altitude in Denver and fact the kicker has a realistic shot at making it if he properly boots the ball. I know why he tried the game-winning field goal, but in second-guessing retrospect, it cost him the game. Should be interesting to see how his team bounces back after a disappointing loss like that.
  7. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 07:26 AM) Yes. This can't happen. Doesn't matter which side you are on or lean towards. If this recount determines HRC should be president lock your doors. There will be blood in the streets, lone wolf attacks in DC and state capital cities- people will die. All faith in government and the democratic system will be severely challenged or lost. Am i crazy? Too bad there isn't a way to just let Obama serve two more years, blame the Russians for interfering. Then tell both parties to get their act together and find some real candidates. Both sides picked horrific candidates in 2016.
  8. Would anybody really be surprised if Hillary is deemed winner of the states where voting was so close? https://www.yahoo.com/news/jill-stein-raise...-170320584.html
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) ok now you are just moving the goalposts. You first started by saying that top 20 teams would lose more often than not to non conference opponents on the road, now you are talking about a blue blood winning at home by 40(against who? non conference? conference?) and then contrasting it with road CONFERENCE teams which is an entirely different beast. Look greg, i know you know college bball, im not stupid. You know just as well as anyone that Kansas may have problems beating WSU at Wichita year to year. But you arent saying that. You are basically saying that Kansas will more often than not lose to any non-conference team they play on the road and that is just categorically untrue. Cream(talent) rises to the top, top 20 teams usually have a lot of it. Fair enough. I know in the Big 12 Kansas under Self has won a ton of road games and could probably go in many gyms and win. Almost every other team, however, has a pathetic road record the past 14 years. But your point is well taken.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) Come on, this is ridiculous. Would they get beat? Yea, sometimes. But more often than they would win? Hell no Teams can't win on the road. It's the age old problem for teams. Oft times a blue blood will win by 40 at home and be lucky to win by 2-3 in the road conference rematch.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 04:42 PM) You are amazed that corrupt politicians try and corrupt elections in order to keep their jobs? I'm amazed we can't have fair elections in the USA.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 06:29 AM) It's more likely you were always a Republican and were led to believe that Obama would bring change or a "breath of fresh air" into politics. Whether they're called Reagan Democrats or the forgotten/overlooked Rust Belt voters of 2016, it amounts to the Democrats failing to present a compelling narrative or story to counter what Trump was selling. No new jobs are coming back. Those were replaced MOSTLY by automation and advanced technology, and secondarily by lower labor rates in 2nd and 3rd world developing economies. It remains to be seen if he's willing to provoke a trade war with China or Mexico. So far, the stock market and value of the dollar have skyrocketed, but that's mostly benefiting the Top 10% of Americans that have significant incomes from investments. There is unlikely to be another Great Depression...just more hollowing out of the Middle Class. Maybe it's a good thing with education costs skyrocketing that families are forced to re-evaluate BA/BS degrees in terms of return on investment, and what other avenues to making livable wages without a degree are actually out there (obviously, starting or spurring more small businesses, but that takes loans/capital/collateral.) The Wall is a mistake, except in the sense that it will spur SOME economic growth if Americans are building it. But it's not going to be effective, it's more symbolic. People will continue to tunnel under, and go around via the Pacific or Gulf of Mexico. It sends the wrong message, that America isn't a country of immigrants, it's a country of "the right kind of immigrants," and everyone else who's not white or highly-educated should stay out. Except for Chinese and Indian workers in STEM subjects who are willing to work for 25-33% of what Americans would expect to earn in those same low and mid-level tech jobs, just to get their foot in the door. Nice post Caulfield. Thought provoking.
  13. QUOTE (juddling @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) R.I.P Mrs. Brady----Florence Henderson From everything I've read she was a wonderful lady and had a wonderful life. Rest in peace. From all indications the world should be thankful for her years on it. Did she die on Thanksgiving? Pretty fitting. She also was not sick, just suddenly had heart failure or something and left quickly. Again, Ms. Brady. Rest in Peace.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 05:13 AM) Sigh. The usual Indiana early season inexplicable stinker. Not trying to defend Indiana or Crean here, but if college Top 20 teams went and played small small small schools on the road more often, they'd get beat more often than they'd win IMO (I do realize this game had more Indiana fans at it than Ft. Wayne). No major college in their right mind would go play at a Missouri State or Wichita State or Northern Iowa. They'd leave with an L more often than not because of the sellout and crazed fans. Just my take.
  15. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) The bigger thing on this is that PFN was not pressuring the QB and as such simply throwing the ball as he did is not intentional grounding. In the OSU game, the guy threw it into the stands. This QB threw the ball in the field of play and one could argue the receiver just did not run his route. This happens in games all of the time and if the QB is not under duress, it is not a call you make. That aspect is on the officials who before enforcing the penalty should have gotten together and waved off the flag. If none of the five could get it right wave it off and go home. You would think after the OSU game someone would have gotten it right. There are much better ways to kill two seconds than this and this is as much on the Fenwick coaching staff as the officials. Take four steps back and take a knee. Run out the back of the end zone. Do not take a knee on on the other downs. This does suck for Fenwick though. Harry, good post as usual. Thanks for explaining that "if the QB is not under duress, you don't call the grounding." I did not know that. At first I was thinking, "How stupid of Fenwick to not just have the QB run a few steps back or to the side and then take a knee." Just out of curiosity, why is the rule that the QB can heave the ball downfield if he's not under duress? That seems like a creepy way to assure victory with five seconds left or so. It sure looks like grounding even if it isn't. I saw a quote in the Trib where the Fenwick coach was driving home and assumed he'd cost his kids a victory. Even he figured the grounding call was correct, cause it LOOKS like grounding. This is one, unfortunate situation. My take is the courts can't get involved and change an outcome of a sporting event and they did the right thing, simply because games are lost by refs calls and all sorts of blunders all the time. I do understand the sentiment of the poster saying PN should refuse to play the final because it's good sportsmanship. they didn't even rush the passer. However, they did win fair and square in OT after the bad bad call. Very sad situation. Would Fenwick have been favored in the final or expected to get mauled by East St. Looie?
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 01:13 AM) Greg, this is the problem with being "against" someone or something. When that person is no longer relevant, you have to move on OR actually work to make things better. It's what YOUR party, the GOP, is going to learn quickly enough when they control the majority and name a Supreme Court seat as well, that people who were promised (just for one example) "repeal and replace" of Obamacare expect (maybe even demand) something better. People in the Rust Belt were promised a return of jobs, so that means, at the least, that the $1 trillion infrastructure spending plan has to get past the Democrats and the Tea Party/Balanced Budget side of the Republican Party. Otherwise, you're left with a whole lot of disillusioned voters (see 1994/2010) who will take it out on the party in charge of fixing things. That's true. Well, Trump is convinced he's going to bring a zillion good jobs to the USA. And he's going to cut taxes and get rid of Obamacare. Do you predict this is good news or bad for the USA first and Republicans second? It's pretty obvious those are things he's going to do. He appears set on building the wall with a "beautiful door" in it as well. Hmmmm ... I mean he's President unless Hillary somehow gets in. He's got to do some things. Will these things work?? Will they cause a Great Depression? I mean folks Trump has plans to lower taxes, get rid of Obamacare and he thinks he'll be a boon for jobs. These are on the table. Are u skeptical?? p.s. I'm not sure it classifies as "my party" since like I told you I didn't vote for Trump, I voted for Obama and the first Obama term I didn't vote at all. There are lapsed Catholics. I may be a lapsed Republican.
  17. Cmon folks, get in the spirit! Happy Thanksgiving to all. I just completed my annual drive around Lawrence (it's a big square with four major streets and now extends a bit out of the square to the west, east and south) when I'm here for the holiday. I think it's cool to still be in a city/town that closes down on Thanksgiving. It's kind of neat to see almost all the coffee shops/restaurants/stores CLOSED and dark. On my drive I saw the grocery store chains are actually open. I saw a Perkins actually was open. But the McDonalds, Chipolte, the entire downtown stores, closed. Only other thing open were the Kwik trips. Yes I stopped in the biggest one and got a HUGE cup of hot java. I know many people despise me on here dating back to my unwavering support of OZZIE BABY, Dye, Jenks, Dwyane Wise and of course hatred of Hillary but on this great day, blessings to you and your families and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!! One and all. Chug a cold can of Old Style for me.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 11:32 PM) How can anyone read this nonsense and actually believe Greg isn't a troll? She won the general vote by 2 million! I think there's a better than 50/50 chance recounts come up in her favor. She was the popular vote choice for President.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) Barring this year getting any more unexpectedly insane, no. But looks like Stein just raised enough to call for the recounts, so sit back, relax and strap it down. I would think with a 2 million vote lead and the corruption that exists, Hillary may win. I'd give her odds of 50/50 minimum maybe 60/40 she is our next President.
  20. http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/23/politics/ele...rump/index.html If Hillary wins the election do you think Trump's more extreme crazies would start a violent civil war so to speak? Hillary won by almost 2 million votes now. Certainly if she asks for investigations in the four key states/recounts she'll likely be deemed the winner. At some point isn't Trump destined to lose and Hillary win? Can Obama demand the recount in key states? I'm just amazed every four years we have talk of corruption in the voting process. What the f*** is going on in our USA elections??? Sad stuff. At this point I would think it'd be funny seeing Hillary win it after all. Trump could claim it was rigged and he'd probably happily go back to being a millionaire business guy. Why can't our election people make sure this stuff does not happen? Why does it take so long to count the votes in some states???
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/hillar...5ed3a34?ref=yfp Hillary Clinton urged by experts to contest results in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania Hmmmm. Hillary still has a shot at oval office?
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) 1. The multi year campaign of lies insinuating that the first African American President could not possibly be from this country. 2. The long history of discrimination by his companies, which there is legal record of much of it. 3. Attacking a judge as unfit to rule on a case involving him because "he's a Mexican" 4. Insisting that the Central Park 5, a group of 5 black people charged with a beating and rape in the late 1980s, should have been put to death even though DNA evidence exonerated them. 5. Judging and testifying that a group of Native Americans wanting to open a casino that would compete with one of his didn't look enough like native americans. 6. Retweeting white supremacists at least 75 times during the campaign. The handle "@whitegenocide" would be a giveaway for anyone who cared. During 1 week in January, 62% of the people he retweeted were accounts that fit a description of white supremacist accounts. 7. Confronted with support from the klan in a debate, was unwilling to condemn it, blamed his failure to do so later on a faulty earpiece that only had issues with that question. 8. Appointed Steve Bannon to a special advisory position - equivalent in power to the chief of staff and making him one of the most powerful people in Washington. 9. Appointed Jeff Sessions, who was blocked from a judgeship by Republicans in the 1980s due to racism and noted that his main issue with the KKK was marijuana, Attorney General. 10. Falsely claiming that 80% of white people who are murdered are killed by blacks. 11. Lies about Muslims celebrating 9/11 in New Jersey. 12. Supports racial profiling to "prevent criminality". Endorsed stop and frisk, denied that it had been found unconstitutional when it clearly had been. 13. The entire Muslim ban. 14.“Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys wearing yarmulkes… Those are the only kind of people I want counting my money. Nobody else…Besides that, I tell you something else. I think that’s guy’s lazy. And it’s probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks,” - Trump called these remarks in a book "probably true" when he was asked about them in 1997. Your own statements suggest that everything published in books must be true for your standards, he even is on record agreeing with that sentiment. 15. "Look, I’m a negotiator like you folks; we’re negotiators." - stereotyping Jews while giving a speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition in December. Thanks for the post. 1.) Haven't a lot of people wondered about the 'birth certificate' thing? I thought Trump finally said Obama is from USA. I thought I heard him say that actually. 2.) Really? I'm surprised he's not broke then. Cause if you discriminate on the basis of age or race or whatever as a business owner, you are in big trouble and can be sued. 3.) If he said that, shame on Trump. 4.) I'll trust you on it. I don't follow everything like I should. 5.) If he said that, again, shame on Donald. 6.) I dunno about that. He's probably twitter stupid if he retweeted that. Cmon, You don't really believe he's a white supremist supporter do you? Now the KKK loves Trump, but is he that evil that he actually loves them back and is a KKK guy? If he is, like I said, he'll probably be in danger and ultimately be assassinated. Lota people out there who would want to harm him (I'm not condoning anything obviously; I want him to live long life as well as Hillary, whom I dislike greatly). 7.) Weak. Again, you believe he likes the KKK? I think he took a good stance on that one, saying he did not want their support. 8.) I don't know of Bannon. My bad. 9.) Don't know of Sessions. Obviously horrifying if you are correct. I'll trust you. 10.) Bad statement by Trump if true. 11.) Bad if true. 12.) I don't like stop and frisk but some people do. You know ... it cannot be denied the military people and cops LOVE Trump and do not like Hillary. He has great support of both groups. 13.) Not famiiar with the Muslim ban. 14.) If he thinks blacks are lazy, that's a problem. I guess he could be like the old people who were on the south side when I was a kid, the ones who despise blacks. If it's true, he'll probably be assaulted. Racism doesn't cut it with people in high office. 15.) I doubt he hates Jewish people. Thanks for the examples. I think Trump is a 2 out of 10 on the character scale; Hillary probably tops him at 2.5 or 3. I do think you are a little hard on him. Again, why does the military love him and why do cops love him?? If Trump is as bad as you say personality wise, then I do the the Armageddon will begin. If he despises all non whites, look out. Thank u for your thorough response.
  23. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) I would say so. I mean would you want a guy embarrassing the team by cutting up uniforms he doesn't want to wear or throwing temper tantrums when his buddies are traded? He didn't hurt anybody, did he? Those uniforms were a joke. The Sox should have consulted him since he was scheduled to pitch in those awful uniforms. It's his arm. If he's totally uncomfortable it does nobody any good. Didn't he already tell somebody he didn't want to pitch in them?
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 04:19 AM) The people that voted for Trump are responsible for their votes. If you voted for Trump, you were at least okay with the racism and bigotry and sexism. It wasn't disqualifying. Democrats aren't and really shouldn't be pursuing Trump voters. They need to drive their base an expand it to the tens of millions of non voters. I'm still waiting for an answer to this question. ... Why is Trump racist? For his stance on immigrants? Is it his fault that the KKK loves him and is adopting him as their leader? I mean he has no control over that. If he's racist, fine, tell me when he did racist things besides wanting the wall.
  25. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 07:12 PM) Taking away the for-profit aspect of healthcare would seriously impact medical advancements. I'm all for making the cost of medical care open and more reasonable, but you really shouldn't take away that incentive. Now, obviously on the other end, you shouldn't be able to monopolize a drug or device and charge an obscene amount either. In a perfect world the bag of ice treatment is 2 bucks, not 40. My cholesterol blood tests 550 bucks? Cmon. Like I said 50 bucks tops. How long does it even take the lab to test? Here's a good one of health care bulls***. Five or so years ago I got dehydrated or something and kept having dizzy attacks. They hooked up one of those heart monitors to me for 2 days where I couldn't even take it off to shower. So I turn the monitor in and gawd only knows what that cost my insurance company, but I never even got the results. The heart doc office never called me, nothing. I figured I must be OK. I never saw the results. The dizzyness went away after a bit. I don't even know what it was but they did a CAT scan as well. But cmon. Our health care is so bad I wear the monitor 2 days and the doc office doesn't even have the courtesy to tell me if I'm OK or dying.
