QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) Greg has expressed frustration towards Brownback and bafflement that he was reelected before. Remember, the same guys who helped run Kansas into the ground are also the senior economic advisers to Trump! I knew about this. Using the Kansas economic plan would ruin the USA forever. However like I said before I'm not voting for Trump. This doesn't make me vote for Hillary. I'm voting for a write in.

Even if we got a new owner, there would not be a new stadium. If the new owner demanded one, he/she still would fail and the team would have to move. We've already discussed the stadium thing to death. It's not happening ... ever.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) The past 50 years of Sox history have been pretty bad, broadly speaking. There have been some extended stretches of extreme horribleness (a word?). Then the Sox got a new stadium and have a pretty nice team and then.....WHAM STRIKE/LOCKOUT followed by the infamous White Flag trade and back to mediocrity. The mother of all fluke seasons, 2005, put them back on the map, but that goodwill has been long squandered away by ineptitude and boring baseball. After all these decades, I'm not sure how many Sox fans are left. Why should there be? Your last sentence is pretty thought provoking. I will say this. The past 11 years of Sox history have actually been good. You can't ignore how huge the WS title is. Now if we go a full 20 years with just one playoff appearance (WS) I'll say the past 20 were decent. The one WS title would still be huge after 20 years but that being the only playoff berth? My gosh that's almost impossible.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) The sky is falling stuff is getting old. This organization has been around for over a hundred years. Its future is not at risk. The Sox have tried to improve the team and compete every year. True it has not been real pretty the last four or so, but it's not from lack of effort in my opinion. Depending on how you measure success there are 28 other clubs that can be considered failures if the prize is the World Series. I am interested in the moves we make this off season and will not buy into gloom and doom Good post, but we have acquired some very bad players the past several seasons. Very bad.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 06:25 PM) Calling on Greg... Come eat... http://www.infowars.com/professor-who-pred...nce-of-winning/ Wow. This guy with the huge call for Trump.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 07:22 PM) You think Hillary would be losing to Romney or McCain if they were running? I don't think they would be. Donald Trump is not the answer, he's a blundering disaster. He is going to get obliterated and he keeps insuring that every time he opens his mouth. I think both Romney and McCain would have defeated Hillary.

2016 World Series -- NOT predictions;REAL feelings
greg775 replied to CyAcosta41's topic in The Diamond Club
Feelings? Happy for the old ladies who've rooted for the Cubs forever. There are a lot of 'em. As far as the games, my feelings are what they always are. Can't root for the Cubs to win but if they do, so be it. It's kind of funny when they fail. It's actually very funny. Hope the Sox get their act together. We need a player like Zobrist not Zobrist wannabees like LaRoche and Lawrie and Melky. Eaton might ultimately be the type of grinder who leads us to greatness. -
QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 07:08 PM) I know some people on this board disagree with me but i think a world series loss for cubs fans will be worse then bartman. Getting that far and poof you are back to square one. Wrong. The Bartman stuff is long dead and buried now. Making the WS is huge. Even if they lose it's a sign of huge progress and happiness for the Cub fans. They should do what the Sox did, however, and complete the deal now cause anything can happen in the future when you are competing against so many teams. Look at the Sox if we hadn't completed the deal, we never made it back.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) There is no real tl;dr of this post, though I'm sure I will write one part poorly enough that it will get argued about over and over. It's long and melodramatic. [edit: alternate possibility, nobody reads it ] But throughout this year I have been working with the idea that something just feels different about being a sox fan than when I was younger. It's hard to figure out whether something like this is just personal - change in social interactions, change in social life - or something actually happening so I wanted to write a post on it. First off, I'm 30. My white sox fandom becomes conscious around 93, takes a vacation after 95 strike, and comes back with a vengeance with the 2000 group and never stops. I basically grew up on this board, like many others. So it's very possible that older fans have seen this before. How can you tell they're a sox fan As the Cubs explode around us, it's hard not to notice the signs of being a cubs fan surpass ours. The W flag, that f****** song, the "try not to suck" shirts - whether or not these things make you want to vomit - there is a culture around being a cubs fan that extends beyond wearing a cubs hat. A shared experience of watching the team extending to memes and memorabilia. When I talk about culture of being a white sox fan, this is what I'm talking about. In a time that is more meme-able than ever, it feels like there has been a huge dropoff of these shareable experiences as a sox fan, and anything that's tried is very corporate, very astroturf (melkman tshirts, soxmath) In fact, the only thing that seems to hold us together at this point is misery. There were a lot isolated happenings this year that taken my themselves and put in more prosperous times, they'd have been no big deal. But with Twitter, the sale jersey cutups, the drake laroche scandal, the Guaranteed Rate change, it all feels agonizing. And the only thing that grounded me to other sox fans was that, that we were miserable, that we couldn't stand being the butt of the joke. "Hey you are pissed off, you must be a sox fan!" This frankly just reminds me of Royals fans when I moved to Missouri in 2005. In the face of all of the Cardinals fans, all they had was their camaraderie that they face humiliation every day but keep coming back. When we were young I compare this to just 10-15 years ago. Perhaps not-coincidentally, these were the formative years of my fandom. We were winning - to be sure. But it felt like I was soaked in a White Sox culture that extended beyond a box score. The thing that reminded me all of this was raBBit's post about his friend's all wearing their CORK shirts until they were full of holes. That was me! It was also 4 sizes too large. But there was more. There was the OH-EE-OH, MAGGGLIO chants. There was the JOSE OLE chants for Jose Valentin. There was the super embarrassing now, but certainly happened GONG phase from Shingo. Thunderstruck. Metallica when Jenks came out. Then of course - there was the co-opting of don't stop believing by the 05 white sox. I'll chalk this one up to the things that happen when you win. Some of these are as "astroturfey" as melkman. But there was a time when the white sox players and organization would feed us something and we would eat that s*** UP. New chant? I'll sing it ad nauseum. New player from far away? let's find a nickname and scream it. But now, I feel like I'm spitting up everything that they are spoon feeding me. There were always less sox fans, since I've been around. There was always a monopoly on "LORE" that the Cubs held. But there was a time when being a sox fan was different. It was an alternative pick. You were there for the baseball, and you mythologized and meme'd the players, not the losing (like the cubs). But now? Hey ... the k zone. Um, melkman. Oh those cool handmotions they do. What about Hawk? Oh he's old and incoherent. Am I just older? That's a definite possibility. But I guess you all can tell me. Being a sox fan this decade has been a bitter, bitter pill. And maybe all of this stuff is the stupid crap that doesn't matter. But damn if I can't wait for an intro song to play, a chant to start, that I can share with everyone, and it's ours. But until then, I guess misery is what we got. Good post. You and the Sox have been "Robin-ized." Ozzie kept itr fun and entertaining always as he knew the Sox were second fiddle in town. Winning a title had us on Cloud Nine. But the Robin years have been just what the front office wanted: calmness, focus on the field, but our performance has been .500ish and very blah. The post Ozzie era has been crickets, just like everybody demaneded it be. Overall Sox have done a pretty darn good job of fielding a competitive team the past many years it's just that in the Robin era we've had a few too many holes to even finish above .500. We're always going to be second fiddle to the Cubs and when they are winning? Ouch.. It's too bad Ozzie had to get X rated and political to where nobody would ever touch him again. But he had the right idea. He had everybody buzzing. Overall the Sox have done a great job of putting a competitive team on the field. It's just been the Robin era where we've had zero chance of making the playoffs. Sad.

QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 05:39 AM) So in your dream scenario, Trump would have "skated by" all the sexual allegations because of timing of when he entered the race. Then when he is actually in office, these allegations surface. So if I'm connecting the dots here, you're saying bad time management is the cause of Trump being a chauvinist, egotistical piece of trash, not Trump himself.... You and The Donald are perfect for each other, Gary. Oh, I mean "Greg" My dream scenario? Im pointing out timing is everything. Im not voting for trump. Ventura

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 04:44 AM) It's because you're basically saying that it's the media's fault that he sexually assaulted all those women. And no, Hillary shouldn't be in jail., You don't understand my point about entering the election later than he has?
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 03:11 AM) Greg, if anyone ever had any respect for you, it should be gone now. The media turned Trump into Cosby? It's the media's fault? That's disgusting. Now we are back to greg is scum posts. Look, I said if Trump had entered the race late, none of this stuff would have surfaced because of uh, the time frame. If he enters the race six months later, we have the election and he's still talking about a wall and being an untraditional politician. BTW, this Trump thing with women is NOT on the level of a full fledged scandal. If the women can prove the allegations or file a lawsuit or make charges stick as in the Cosby case then we'll talk further. Right now he denies everything and not all voters have abandoned him. Don't make it sound like right now he's some proven rapist. It may turn out that way but if that was the case he WOULD NOT be allowed to continue to run for President. He'd be arrested and awaiting trial. As of now that is not the case.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 03:38 AM) This is gross. Hillary is the most accomplished woman in American political history, but yeah, sure, whatever you say. It's not gross, it's true. Accomplished? What has she done? Like when SNL zinged her last night on the "last 30 years debate question." She's done very very little on the positive side. A common person who did what she did would be in jail or disgraced. Hillary? The FBI turns the other way. QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 03:42 AM) You understand that 2) Statistically, the more people see of Hillary (or the media's portrayal of her) the more they dislike her - which isn't surprising given her unprecedentedly skewed media coverage - but the longer the race goes, the closer it's actually become (if not for Trumps ridiculous gaffes) What I'm saying is a.) if Trump gets in as late as possible he can possibly ride the "new guy" crusader thing all the way to the White House. He gave the media so much time to finally turn him into Cosby. b.) I disagree on Hillary. Yes the more people see they hate her, to an extent. My point is she has been around forever and we are used to seeing/hearing her. It's like the vase your are still using even though you should get a new one. You are used to it and even though it may now suck you are used to it and deal with it.

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) Giants and dodgers were really weak teams, cubs should of swept both teams. Indians have been hot throughout playoffs , cubs have them talent wise but it depends on how the cubs hit. Unfortunately cubs are built to win the next 3-5 years with no competition in sight in national league. I'm hoping Indians win in seven, but cubs probably got them in five games as long as they hit the ball or don't have a mental breakdown that leads to a choke . Not only do the cubs have top young talent theyve also bought a the finishing pieces to puzzle , more timely than Yanks/bosox ever have. I think this year and next year will be theyre prime dominant years and they'll slowly decline due to bad contracts , injuries , and lack off high draft picks I think this post says it all. Agree with everything here. The ultimate decline depends on the improvements Epstein makes after they win the WS this year and next. Funny thing is after the curse and everything, they might go on a Yankee like dynasty of the old days. Cubs could win the WS 3 of the next five years starting now, maybe 4.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 09:29 PM) The bragging about sexual assault / being a threat to the American experiment doesn't have an effect. If Trump entered later none of that would've been a factor it would've never come up

QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) GO CUBS GO GO CUBS GO HEY CHICAGO WHATAYA SAY THE CUBS ARE GONNA WIN TODAY I'm still completely wasted from last night. Chicago was a complete s***show. So fun though This is a White Sox board. You are too giddy for the Cubs. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) We just got to hope if there really is a baseball god, he's got something special in store for Cubs fans, something far worse than the Bartman event. The Cubs should win this thing on paper, but stranger things have happened. I won't make an official prediction, but I will be actively cheering for the Tribe for the first time in my adult life. They made the WS. It's already a successful season believe it or not for them. But they'll beat Cleveland unless for some reason home field does them in. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) I'm at Walmart right now. I have never seen more people in the store wearing Cubs stuff in my life. They all look like they just got laid for the first time. Right now it's obvious they own the city. Sox did this to themselves by hiring Robin and becoming so irrelevant. I told you guys no matter what Ozzie kept us in the news and relevant. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) I know the feeling...especially when you politely tell them "No, I am a White Sox fan." And then they are like "Oh. Uhhh...Sorry." Yeah, not much you can do about it right now except accept their condolenses. Tell em we've got Chris Sale and Jose Quintana.

Now that it's totally been decided, I'd like to ask you to reveal to me the key to Hillary emerging as runaway winner. I'll tell you what truly has hurt Donald Trump ... it's the length of the presidential race, almost 2 years of campaigning, etc. What happened and what happens is that such a long campaign/run favors the person who everybody knows. Hillary could have campaigned for four years and everybody already knew her and her "15 minutes of political fame" had no danger of running out. Whereas Trump was very well known as a TV personality, he was a political novice, a fresh face on the politics scene. The long long long campaign run ended in disaster because it gave the media time to truly get him and bury him. At one point, Trump was riding sky high. He at one point would have won the election. But because he was running for almost two years, he finally got burned. The media had time to get its act together and nail him on the issue of sex. Finding the women he allegedly abused, etc. Just think if Trump campaigned for say, six months total. He would have been at the top right now. Instead his 15 minutes of political fame long have run out. He jumped the shark a few months ago when the sex stuff was uncovered. I'm telling you ... candidates that are not already so well known (anybody besides a Bush or Clinton) should enter the campaign LATE. Trump could have hinted he might run, but the only amount of time he needed was from the calendar date of the first Republican debate on. Now Americans are sick of him; even his big supporters just want him to go away cause he's old news, his 15 minutes of political fame are long gone. Hillary meanwhile? We all know her from before. Sure many Americans like me despise her, but with the help of all the endorsements from celebrities, etc., we can tolerate Hillary being our president. Hell she gets exactly what she had wanted: her lifetime achievement award. There will be huge celebrating from the day she's elected til the day she is inaugurated. The process has played itself out again. Trump was so stupid in not just entering the race late and trying to time it right so Americans disgusted with the same ol political process would elect him. Now ... we know him too well. Hell, even his wall, which had fresh support when he first brought it up, now is considered a horrible idea by almost all Americans. The wall, once a fresh, controversial issue and sign Trump was thinking outside the box, became old news as well. He has no chance and the coronation is set. Do you all agree with me: Candidacies have run out of steam before, run out of gas. If you are a candidate, ENTER THE RACE AS LATE AS YOU CAN. Don't give the world a chance to find all your warts. make them run out of time.

It's been quiet in North Korea lately. Wonder what he's up to?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) Don't think Cruz beats Clinton. He's not well liked by anyone and too much of a religious conservative to win a national election. The FBI simply won't indict a candidate of the president's party unless it's a crystal clear case like Watergate where the entire process of governing has been subverted. Questionable judgment is a different standard. Thing is ... Trump just went on stage at the debates and blew them away with insults and saying how great he was and how he'd be the only one who could beat Hillary. He single handedly pared the field and turned Cruz into what was perceived as an idiot/clown. Had Trump not run, just think, one of the real politicians would have been the republican candidate, assuming Cruz or Bush beat out Carson or Fiorina. So with Trump out of the running maybe Cruz would have caught on or Fabio.
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 02:12 AM) 11 women have now come out, and with less than 20 days left, Trump is still kinda sorta in this race. With all the s*** he has said, as dangerous of a person he truly is, this is sorta a blip on the radar. Donald Trump made an offer to a porn star to have sex? COLOR ME SHOCKED!!! The Republicans should have figured out a way to "rig" the nomination process like the DNC did to burn Bernie. Anybody but Trump probably would have beaten Hillary. Maybe the FBI would have actually done the right thing and recommended charges if the Repubs had gotten behind Bush or Kasisch or Cruz. They let Donald whittle the field down single handedly. He made Bush seem like a bozo at the debates; he turned Cruz into a cartoon and nobody gave Kasisch a chance. Cruz would have beaten Clinton if Trump hadn't been around attacking Cruz and all the others at the Repub debates.

QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 05:32 AM) This is the best one yet. Girl who looked to be in her early twenties starts crying about how she has been waiting for this her whole life. I thought about the 80 year old who also has been waiting. Shut up lady. Haha Geez, that's pathetic. Chicago really has turned around the city of losers thing. With the Cubs now, and the Blackhawks having all those titles/parades and the White Sox winning 11 years ago and the Bears still having a title in modern history and the Bulls having all those titles in modern history, Chicago has turned it around nicely compared to before 85 when the Bears busted the city of losers image.

Cubs have a much better roster. I didn't watch any of the AL playoff games for some reason so I have no idea if Cleveland has been playing great baseball like the Royals did last year. I just don't see any weaknesses on the Cubs team. You know maybe if Schwarber actually gets activated that will screw up their chemistry or something. Other than that I think the Cubs will win it in five. They'll split in Cleveland and Cubs will win 3 in a row in Wrigley. I wonder why baseball goes 2-3-2 instead of 2-2-1-1-1 I guess homefield could matter. It is important. Cleveland's only hope IMO is if their fans really do throw the Cubs off and Cleveland wins the first two then takes one in Wrigley to go up 3-2 heading into the final two in Cleveland. If the series opens 1-1 or 2-0 Cubs, forget it. Cubs starting pitching is pretty damn good. I can't believe many thought a team with 1 starter, Kershaw, would beat the Cubs. Rich Hill? Please he'd have gotten lit up Sunday.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 04:56 AM) well the dodgers are a dreadful baseball team thanks for f***ing nothing go indians You are right. The Dodgers really looked like a flawed ballclub. You know, everybody besides the Cubs this postseason has looked like a pretty ordinary roster. Maybe the Sox just need a good manager or some magic to contend. Dodgers and Giants had nothing special on the mound or in the field. Conor Gillaspie? The stiffs the Dodgers were sending to the plate and pitching? I wish we had a special manager. We don't. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 05:11 AM) The bullpen was lucky for sure. A lot of retread vets had great years like Dye and Everett as well. I never wanted Ozzie gone. Cmon I hate what's happened to the White Sox, but the 05 Sox were not lucky in any way. It was one of the most dominant performances in postseason history as a matter of fact. Luck had NOTHING to do with it. Far from it. We dominated.
-
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 04:44 AM) I'm upset we are stuck with incompetent ownership and management with no hope of the necessary changes being made for the foreseeable future. Multiple World Series wins for the Cubs and this team will never recover. The 2005 team was complete luck given how badly they squandered a huge opportunity to grow the fan base. Not total luck. You guys despise Ozzie but he did a helluva job managing that team and not yanking starters when they were hot and overmanaging. Also we had very very good starting pitching and played clean baseball and had some big hits. All those games against the Astros were clean and close and we had a deserving team. Never forget how we dominated the postseason. It wasn't luck. However ... I do agree with much of what you said.

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 04:40 AM) No fights that I could see. Just a LOT of people. More came towards the 9th and end of the game. Cars honking horns constantly in cheer. Beer spraying kinda sucked, but only a few did that. Left as I'm not much of a party animal and don't like big groups of people, also wanted to get home for work in the early am for the lady. Overall, a great atmosphere if one is into that kind of thing. Every bar around was packed throughout the game. Cool. I'm surprised real people would waste their beer and spray it. I wonder how many people will get pulled over tonight and have to take breathalizers just cause they smell of beer. You get sprayed you can't avoid it. Not a better scenario for a fan. Saturday night way before midnight. Party time.
