  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) The Sox won't give Saladino 1 or 2 spot starts a week in this bottom 1/3 offense; they certainly won't use him as pinch hitter for one of their best hitters (or one they perceive as such). The reality is that Saladino has improved a lot as a hitter this year (albeit in a small sample size). But once the White Sox org. deems someone, especially a young player, as worthy of a limited role, that's that. As for Frazier, I certainly hope he had a rousing, delightful time playing home run derby, he so begged the Sox to allow him to do. This discussion is kind of silly. You don't, like many have said, pinch hit a guy who SHOULD be able to hit a fly ball there for Saladino. That's ridiculous. Frazier is our highly paid starting slugger. It's the spot you WANT him to be in. Just because we Sox fans knew he was toast there, doesn't mean you pinch hit for him. It would have been national news there, sure it would have. Saladino for Frazier just cause he figures to make contact? Can't ever do something like that. It would be an embarrassment to Frazier, saying he can't hit a fly ball there.
  2. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) Six teams, including Boston and Toronto, ahead of the team for that second wild card spot. Check. Six teams. That's incredible to think some people think we are in the race. Sell. This is just like last year. I want us to sell now, not after other teams start dumping players and we get scraps for "name" players. I'd trade Frazier and Robertson ASAP and get this thing rolling.
  3. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) I imagine these type of attacks will only increase. Not sure how you can stop it now. Sad and scary. Some guy walking down the highway with a rifle. I was reading a story about a doctor from Ireland who last week decided to move back to Ireland with his wife, deeming the USA just too dangerous. We really are a dangerous country right now. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 08:00 PM) I own guns and generally support the right for most people to own them, but I find it completely f***ed up how easy it is to purchase an assault rifle. There is absolutely no practical purpose for them unless you want your people armed to help deter the threat of a foreign invasion. Pretty crazy that an everyday Joe can pretty easily outgun local law enforcement. Actually some of the people are convinced they need guns in case their own government turns against us. Not a foreign invasion but our own government. You better believe police are going to be more aggressive on stops now because you never know if somebody will shoot them in protest of Baton Rouge incident and Minnesota and Ferguson.
  4. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 03:42 PM) Ok yes, if you clearly stated only that, I doubt many if any would have a problem with your post. It got hairy when you started talking about Hilary picking a woman because she's scared of a gruff man? I mean where the actual f*** do you get s*** like this? She clearly wants a woman on her ticket. You act like the battle of the sexes isn't a part of this race? How many women have spoken out saying the only reason they want Hillary is she is female? Tons want the first female president saying, "It's time." I've heard that a lot on TV already. Of course it's a major reason she will win (the female vote) and you better believe she wants a female running mate to cap this thing off. It's just it might not be wise to pick a female. I'm sure her staff is deciding that now for her, if it's worth the risk since right now she has the election wrapped up. Some of you are ignoring the battle of the sexes in this race??
  5. I would like to tip my cap to Shields. He's bounced back very very nicely since his horrific first couple starts with Chicago. Give credit where credit is due. You know, I am the worst critic of our team not being good enough to contend. And I stand by that with catcher, DH, right field glaring weaknesses. We have 3-4 slots out of 9 pretty overmatched at this level. And I feel like no team with a catching combo like the Sox deserves to talk postseason. But ... the other part of me, the one that thought we would play the Cubs in the WS when we were 23-10 (great pitching and defense at that point!), says the Sox are grossly underachieving considering they have a big three of Sale, Quintana and Shields (Rodon wasn't too bad either; not great but not too bad) and a great closer in Robertson. You'd think maybe they'd eke out a wild card with guys like that as well as "name" everyday players Frazier, Cabrera, Eaton, Lawrie, Abreu and now Anderson). So I'm torn. If you held a gun to my head I'd stand by us just not being good enough, but I'd at least listen to those who think Robin and Coop are underachieving because of reasons just stated.
  6. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) Logically you should be right...but these are the White Sox remember. And even if he is let go, what makes you think JR will approve spending big money to bring in a competent manager with a track record? Hasn't happened since Jeff Torborg in 1989. Knowing this organization it'll be another former player trying to "learn on the job." Paging Jim Thome...paging Jim Thome. Mark I might finally be done with the Sox (to the joy of Soxtalkers galore) if they name Buddy Bell the new manager. Won't be thrilled with Renteria but I guess I'll give him a chance at least.
  7. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) Let's put it this way... When the pinch ran Saladino for Melky in the 9th - I was pissed. Why? Because I wanted a contact hitter like Saladino up there for Frazier in that situation. The Sox decision makers have pegged Saladino the last guy on the roster at least as far as non pitchers. That is obvious. IMO it's a mistake. I think he has a clue at the plate and should be playing.
  8. Did you read the article on BLM protestors clogging the highway in Memphis and preventing a baby from getting to the hospital? http://hotair.com/archives/2016/07/13/blac...d-for-hospital/ I'm telling you, protestors are making it so easy on the cops. If you protest on a highway they are gonna be rounding you up and throwing you in paddywagons by the dozens. If you are one of those ringleader protestors and you are impeding traffic on a highway, you are making it so easy for the cops to single you out and arrest you. Some of these younger protestors are going to regret this someday. This new habit of protesting on the highway gives the cops an excuse (public safety) to immediately arrest protestors and throw them in the slammer. Charges can be serious, too. WHoever came up with this new trend of not just marching on sidewalks but sitting on highways is the cops' new hero. "Place your hands behind you; you are under arrest."
  9. The White Sox should not bunt again this season. Robin has nothing to lose. he's buried himself already. No bunting.
  10. He's definitely not going to get an extension. JR is gonna have to give him the bad news after the season. He can get reassigned somewhere if he wants to stay in baseball.
  11. Not that the lineup matters, but a third grader could realize it should be Eaton at the top and Anderson second, not the way it is now. We have a leadoff hitter; why the hell did they move Andy to leadoff??? No brains. No glory.
  12. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 04:40 AM) Lol Chuck Garfein just yelled, "what was their approach today?!" Like a few have said, this team never has an approach (especially in Central Div. games). It's actually true. Like I complain a lot about never "competing." We don't have an approach and we don't compete. We show up. That's the strong point of this team. They show up and whatever happens happens. They do what they do. I mean that's inexcusable for Frazier to not loft that first meatball into center for an RBI sac fly. But he swung so hard there was no chance he'd get around on it. It's sickening baseball. Anybody who says they have an "approach" is either a blatant homer or baseball stupid. Now out of nowhere they get shut out three games in a row, after all the other indignities this season. Crazy team.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 04:34 AM) Nice to see a complete meltdown going on in the game thread Three shutouts in a row for the first time since 1968 when the mound was low will do that to ya.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 04:33 AM) All but two of the strikeouts on splitters I believe. Can't believe anyone thinks this team can outlast Boston, Houston and Toronto What are they ... five games back? Time to get real. I know you are realistic but cmon optimists. Five games might as well be 10 with a sub-standard team like the Sox. Hope we have a good April again next year then build on it.
  15. This team begs to see what a new manager could do for it. Not saying it would work. It probably wouldn't, but this team really, truly is not a "team." Nice job by Frazier making contact, especially with that first pitch right there to loft for a sac fly (sarcasm). Thanks, Frazier. What a pathetic at bat. He swung so hard he obviously was trying to hit a home run as he always does, not be situational. As far as Morneau, whatever ... I knew he was going to pop up or strike out. No venom here. What a pathetic baseball "team." Hawk coined TWTW. He should coin something for this team cause it's just the opposite of TWTW. Bad, bad baseball team.

QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 07:57 PM) At what point do we pull plug on this thing? We're a game over .500. Close to being in the same mediocre position we were in at the deadline last year. Still can't win in the division, and struggling offense as well. I say we unload at the deadline. I think Sox are standing pat because they'd have been making moves by now, starting with Frazier, Robertson. Waiting til right before the deadline means we'll get robbed again.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 12:28 AM) This officially confirmed the fact that you are sexist. You assume a women is going to pick another women because they'll hypothetically get along more and than pose it as men being gruff, etc. Ridiculous. I'm not sexist. I also heard tonight coincidentally Hillary has spoken to Warren. I'm actually not sexist but right. I predicted Hillary deep down wants two women, but she might not be brave enough to risk it. I am not a red-neck sexist but they are out there and she may not be brave enough to go with two women. It's obvious she wants Warren, so show some guts and pick her. I have no problem voting in a woman president. I just despise Hillary. You can't tell me that Limbaugh and the pundits aren't going to discuss the two woman issue. Rather than call me a sexist which I am not, explore the issue of two women on the ticket. Finally you call me sexist. What do you call all the women out there who ADMIT they ONLY support Hillary because they want a woman to be president. They are not as despicable as you see me?? They are admitting they won't even consider a man. They are the sexist ones. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 01:22 AM) greg can I please hire you as a personal troll, I know many blogs that are looking for grade A premium trolls such as yourself. You call me names and yet after my post it was revealed Hillary indeed has spoken to Warren.
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 04:51 AM) We looked flat out dead tonite on offense and defense getting shut out. Just a carry over from Sunday's pathetic offensive debacle Let's face it. Like last year .500 is this team's goal. We'll either finish at .500 or a few games above or below. True the team has a lot of deficiencies, but it also has a number of name players. Hahn and Robin must take the blame for the team not having what "it" takes.
  19. How depressing. Nine innings. No runs. Santiago is the new Bruce Chen??
  20. QUOTE (Scoots @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 04:43 AM) How does Albers go from being a lights out pitcher to...the "alternative" option out of the pen? Easy. Remember Humber? Guys just lose it. Albers is done.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 03:58 AM) Scoreboard watching is pointless. There is no sustained offense and no power making it impossible to string victories together. Yeah one thing I don't waste time doing is check scores. I know one thing and that's this team is not a playoff contender. At some point they are gonna start playing Saladino every day and that will be an overdue step in the right direction. p.s. I didn't know Conor Gillaspie was on the Giants.
  22. Nice job by Lawrie and Frazier there. Lawrie certainly plays the game the right way. He's much better than Beckham IMO.
  23. Nice hit by Frazier. I don't despise him even though I've called for trading him. He has never annoyed me like Dunn did and LaRoche did despite the sub .200 average.
  24. The Sox are a weird team. Has Santiago ever pitched a game as good as this one? This has got to be a career highlight.
  25. If Britt Burns had won Game Four vs. the O's the Sox were a lock for the WS with an automatic Game Five home victory behind LaMarr Hoyt. One of the biggest chokes in Sox history not scoring one run in 9 innings and losing in 10 on the Oriole homer.
