QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 04:35 AM) Thompson also had a lot of game-winning hits during that hot streak. Should we take all of those wins of the board, too...because they happened in one "hot stretch"? Couldn't we do that with 80-90% of pitchers and hitters? Let's just put it this way. The Dodgers are confident enough in him, Pederson, Kendrick and eventually Ethier to trade Puig now. Nice post. I'm 'just saying' that it's pretty sad that our organization, which has horrible minor leagues, could right now have younguns playing in Anderson, Thompson and Semien. They all could be in the lineup. That's three positions filled for quite some time to come. That goes with our homegrown pitchers who have made it.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 07:16 PM) Have you looked at Trayce Thompson's stats lately. He is not very good. Other than a hot two week stretch in May he has been pretty horrible this year. Take out that hot stretch and he has an anemic .202/.283/.362 slash line. He is far from a stud and probably should not be an every day player. He's 25 years old and has 13 home runs. That screams 20 home runs at the break at the Cell! The power would be nice and we know he can play D. Soxtalk is hard on young playes. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) I agree. Semien was a butcher at SS Hey, Soxtalk is hard on the younguns. The A's fans LOVE his defense this year. He has 19 fricking home runs. We've left a ton of home runs on the table in Trayce and Semien for the Cell. We've got a guy with some pop in Saladino who we don't even play. Avi is useless and Saladino should be roaming right field for now if he can read a fly ball at all.

Comparing the 2016 team at the ASB vs 2015
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) 7-26 is actually slightly better than winning 2 out of 10. I will make you a wager the Sox go better than 7-26 vs. Cleveland, KC and Detroit the rest of the season. The Sox will go 10-23 vs those teams the rest of the season. Maybe 9-24 but I'd say 10-23. That means "sell" in my book. It's tough to say because of "meaningless" games late. Like I don't know who we play the final two weeks and if they are eliminated and we are eliminated yet, etc. Last year we rocked KC in some meaningless games late. I think the Sox won five of the last six vs. KC last year but when anything was on the line ... L after L after L for Chicago.

Falcon Heights Minnesota shooting
Man, I can't imagine the good Catholics in Mt. Greenwood allowing that to happen. The school and church have a ton of property, though. Maybe it's a sign of the times that people can't afford 5,000 bucks a semester or whatever it costs. Still I would think people would rally to keep that school open. It was a good school.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) Also posting this so that Greg can respond with "That's not a very good article, the author wasn't objective how come nobody is covering what a b**** she is?" http://www.vox.com/a/hillary-clinton-inter...dership-quality The problem with this article is again, it comes from a Chris Matthews type, that is, a Hillary worshiper.. This paragraph made me stop reading: "Obama administration officials, up to and including the president, badly want to see her win — there is something in the way she acted after the election, in the soldier she became and the colleague she showed herself to be, that has curdled the pride they felt in winning the 2008 primary into something close to guilt." Yes, we know, Hillary is so special, blah blah. She's a compulsive liar, power hungry, elitist and the FBI doesn't care.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 07:28 PM) Of note, regarding Anderson's defense: Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) gives him a +3 thus far, on the strength of Runs on Plays Made (rPM) with 0s for Runs on Good Fielding Plays (rGFP) and Runs on Double Plays (rGDP). That's a good pace and matches my eye test that he's making most of the plays he should, doesn't look the best on double plays, and hasn't completed any real eye-popping plays. Revised Zone Rating which is computed a bit more transparently also likes him. It's simply a percentage of the time he makes the play on balls hit into the zones that a shortstop fields at least 50% of the time. He's .830 on this metric, which is 6th best among SS with at least 100 innings. UZR gives him an overall 0.6, which computes out to 3.7 over 150 games. Not "oh my god" good, but good. This is another stat that is relative to the average SS, so being above is a good sign. All of his value in UZR comes from not making errors, while he is slightly negative (-0.3) in both range and double plays. This is in basic agreement with DRS, though it's a hair more conservative. I think most of us like him from the eye test as well, it's definitely a far cry from the player that just a year ago many still wondered whether he would be good enough to spend any MLB time at the position. You can see some of the roughness around the edges, especially with footwork on double plays, but he exudes baseball talent on defense IMO. He's been surprisingly sure-handed on routine balls and you can see flashes of that big range and playmaking ability. I'm not sure whether he's truly an above average SS or is benefiting from the kinds of opportunities so far, but he looks like a real MLB SS and perhaps a good one in the long run. Just think if we had Anderson, Semien and Trayce! Wow we'd be excited and praising our system. Instead, two horrific trades letting Trayce and Semien go. As much as we rail on our system, we had 3 studs right there home grown and let two go.

Comparing the 2016 team at the ASB vs 2015
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 06:29 PM) Literally what we do against the AL Central in the second half is the key to the season. Good post. And that's why I say "sell." The problems they have in the division won't be fixed this year. It's a scouting problem and Cleveland, Detroit and KC will win eight of every 10 vs the Sox the second half. Sell.

David Robertson is a fantastic closer
Robertson is good, but nothing to go nuts about. I like him enough. But I would trade him asap. GET PROSPECTS.

Countdown to the Trade Deadline..
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 07:37 AM) For conversation sake: Jose Abreu - .258 Todd Frazier - .145 Melky - .293 Lawrie - .284 Avi - .333 Shuck - .208 Navaro - .234 Eaton - .239 Anderson - .278 Jackson - .364 What is this? Frazier is hitting .145?? On the road or what?

Countdown to the Trade Deadline..
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 03:46 AM) George King of the New York Post has the White Sox as a potential fit for Beltran. http://nypost.com/2016/07/10/yanks-could-h...-morneau-fails/ Beltran is having a nice year, 19 homers. But I'd say "pass." He's too old, 39. He actually would be a good pickup for the Royals. I think they are more apt to make a playoff run than we are. He could be this year's Rios for them.

Comparing the 2016 team at the ASB vs 2015
First of all, this team does not have TWTW. I think Hawk would admit that if he had truth serum. Last year to this year ... this team is the same team basically but I'll agree it might be a little better. If it's better it's only because Anderson is way better than Lexi already. This year's Melky has been better than last year's. Eaton is the same; Avi is worse; Abreu is worse; Lawrie has been better than last year's 2B options; Anderson way better than Lexi; Frazier way better than last year; catcher pathetic both years; DH pathetic both years; Robin can't find a spot for one of our better hitters, Saladino. Defense is a little better this year; baserunning a little better. Yes our bullpen is a little better. Starting pitching actually is worse despite Sale's amazingness. So yes this year's team is a little better than last year's but still blows. CONCLUSION: IT IS NOT A CONTENDER and most reasonable people (to borrow an FBI Comer line) would not buy players in hopes of making the playoffs. Another option would be more appropriate.

I think it's time to take Jose off the banner
His advanced stat numbers aren't that bad. His tradition stat numbers .266 11 HR, 52RBI aren't the worst ever, either. He's still a keeper IMO.

**7/10 Game Thread: White Sox vs Braves**
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) This weekend is precisely why I think it would be foolish for the front office to "go for it" and trade more potential future assets (off the major league roster or the minor leagues)on the slim chance they can somehow grab the second wild card spot. You lose two of three AT HOME to the worst team in baseball. The only consistent thing about the White Sox is their frustratingly inconsistency. Still shaking my head over this weekend. Now add in the fact they are unable to beat Cleveland, Kansas City or Detroit on a regular basis and you see "going for it" is a fool's errand. Mark You speak the truth. I don't know why people don't like my suggestion that could rebuild this team in a hurry. ... Over the all star break identifiy the young studs on contenders' AA and AAA teams and GO GET THEM. Look, contenders will want the guys I want to deal: Melky, Robertson, Frazier, Duke, Lawrie, Avila, Navarro. Somebody might also want Avi and/or Shuck. Trade Q as well if you get an unbelievable haul in return. Get a boatload of players for these guys and rebuild around Sale, Abreu, Eaton, Anderson, Saladino and maybe Q. Nate can become the closer until the offseason when we buy one via free agency. GO SOX!

**7/9 Game Thread: White Sox vs The Not So Braves"
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 03:51 AM) Semien's 14th in OPS and 13th in WAR at SS right now. Not a franchise cornerstone (those home run numbers mask some of his other deficiencies, like OBP and defense)...but a very very solid player. (As someone pointed out, at worst, the equivalent of Frazier at 3B this year). Let's just call it (Marcus' level at present) the absolute upside of Saladino on the WAR side of things. Realistically, he's not a consistent 3.5-4.5 WAR player every year...but maybe I'm wrong. Even a 3 WAR at SS under cost control (or 2B, in this case) is a huge way to balance out those veteran contracts. The guy has 19 home runs! In the article I linked they LOVE his improved defense. The guy just might be our Lou Brock-Ernie Broglio trade before it's over. Semien has 19 home runs! They were calling for him to be an all star already in Oakland. And we discard him. AWFUL. Meanwhile another stud, Saladino, sits day after day. Just make Saladino DH if we won't trade Laurie and give him second base or trade Frazier and give him third. Heck stick him in right field. He can hit.

Falcon Heights Minnesota shooting
Minnesota police are tear-gassing people Sat night at 11 and trying to break up the protest which has marched to I-94. A Highway. Here's my stance about protests: The people are ON THE f***ING HIGHWAY. If you are gonna protest on a freeway and impede the lives of others who want to use the freeway, sorry protestors you deserve to be arrested. GO AHEAD and protest all you want ... in a safe spot. Do you soxtalkers agree with me on this?? Sitdown on a freeway?? I say you should be arrested if you are f***ing sitting on a freeway. Finally I also am against marching into the Taste of Chicago and yelling at people. I feel if you do that you SHOULD be arrested during the protest. Tourists and fellow Chicagoans alike are trying to enjoy an event like the Taste and should not be harassed during such an event!!!!! Comments?

And that's a White Sox winner !
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 02:33 AM) Why are people suggesting selling when this team is over .500 going into the break instead of talking about what it would take to get the one player on the market who would be a substantive and worthwhile upgrade (Jonathan Lucroy)? Cause I fell for it last year. Exact same situation. Sox went completely in the tank right after the break. This team doesn't have what it takes and I can see that clearly. SELL.

David Robertson didn't pitch in a 1 run save situation
QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 02:58 AM) Just be up by 8 runs early and no need to worry about this Tell that to the Royals, who rallied from a 7-run deficit vs. the Sox in the ninth.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 12:53 AM) No team that's out of the race is going to give up a cheap young bat with upside. That's what these rebuilding teams are currently stockpiling. Didn't we give up one of those a few years ago in Semien? Looks like getting rid of Semien, as expected, was a horrible decision. Maybe a fireable offense. He should be on the all-star team and with those power numbers you are looking at one, productive player. We could have had Anderson at short and Semien at second for 15 years. Sad. And don't be a Semien hater just cause u are jealous of the A's. He's productive doggone-it. Don't deny it. http://www.athleticsnation.com/2016/6/28/1...chise-shortstop

And that's a White Sox winner !
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 11:22 PM) Hopefully they can win the series tomorrow then the front office can reassess things. Mark Glad to see Jones wrap up the save against a horrible team. We'll take the home W. If Hahn could develop a master plan he could pull it off easier during the season than the winter. Figure out what young players you want and then deal off Frazier, Robertson, Melky, Avi, Navarro, Avila, Lawrie. Keep Q, Sale and Rodon and keep Abreu and Eaton and see what happens.
