(Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:06 PM) He is the most talented overall musician I've seen live in the last 40 years. At one of the shows he played every instrument during different songs and had majors solos on each one. He was incredible. That video is one of my favorites and the one that most "non-Prince" fans find. RIP. Amen. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) Twitter is intolerable after someone famous dies. So many people going overboard with praise. ??? Geez. Human beings bleed. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Before I had heart surgery a few years ago, me and my friends went downtown to hang out before I left for the operation. This was when I lived on Taylor and went to UIC. It was a group of like 15 and we went to Little Joe's for their karaoke night and everyone is having a good time. While I was getting a drink, my friend taps me on the shoulder and ask if it's cool if one of his friends from home can come out and I said sure. I expected it to be one of his guy friends but in walks his friend Hannah, who everyone knew I had a huge thing for, including her. While I'm far from being a social butterfly and not very sociable, I have no problem engaging with people but whenever I was around Hannah, I couldn't even open my mouth and when I did, I would say something that usually made no sense, before running away. I get my drink, get far away and wait my turn for the microphone. I guessed she noticed that I was avoiding her and she comes up and tells me that she heard about the operation and we strike up a conversation. I told her that I'm going to do a song and she says that she wants to sign up. She gives me her drink to to hold and tells the DJ what song she wants to do. It's my turn and I do Prince's Kiss. I see she's up next, so I give her the microphone and she looks at me funny. Her music starts playing and it's Little Red Corvette. Our conversation wasn't going anywhere before that but after that coincidence, me and her talked the whole night and exchanged numbers. We talked nonstop and about a month later she asked me out and we've been together since. So I guess I have Prince to thank for that. Prince was my one of my first concerts. He played during my first dance at wedding. And my mom and sisters, who are all lifelong dancers would take out a record player, throw on some Prince and dance through our house. I was even Prince for Halloween last year. Needless to say, I was pretty devastated by the news of Prince's death. Him and his music have always been a constant in my life. RIP Your Badness. What a story! Prince truly is the reason you had the connection with your wife. You may not have ever struck up a good conversation, who knows? Thank u for the story. I feel sad about Prince today for some reason. Good music just seems to be part of what life is all about - how human beings are able to create such cool stuff can be uplifting. RIP Prince.

(Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 04:28 AM) so much for the flu Prince Treated for Drug Overdose Days Before Death http://www.tmz.com/2016/04/21/prince-treat...-overdose-dead/ I read an article that seemed legit and said he had a bad hip and bad ankle pain as well and after the concert in Atlanta ODed on painkillers. The fact his current tour was him sitting at a piano and exhibiting his piano skills and not standing much would lend credence to the pain thing, also that he had a glittery cane when he walked on stage. Sad he didn't just go for hip replacement surgery or something. Check out Prince's performance of Let's Go Crazy done impromptu at SNL's 40th anniversary party. it's all over the web today. So cool. I've "enjoyed" watching some performances of Prince and watching some interviews from the past in respect. Purple Rain has got to be one of the best 10 songs of all time and the way he was able to add some guitar solos in the midst of that song is pretty awesome. Seemed like a together guy. One of the rare celebs to mention his faith in God a lot. Not some crazy spirit God but the traditional God. I also love the fact he still lived in Minnesota. As far as I'm concerned that says something. I love Prince. Rest in Peace. p.s. I know adults who have died of flu. If you ever get a serious bout, don't let yourself get dehydrated. Don't be shy about going to emergency. Death is possible from the flu. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/enterta...e-snl/83458354/

White Privilege?
After watching a video of some entitled college students listing all the sentences that are offensive to them (asking an Asian person where they are from was included as offensive; good luck making small talk in the future) and it got me to thinking about the Black Lives Matter movement. I was thinking ... we have an African American president who won twice; the next President is female and is a hero to the African American voter, many if not a majority of the mayors of big cities are African American, many if not a majority of police chiefs in big cities are African American. Haven't we made a lot of progress in this area? Why don't the Black Lives Matter people go to the top and speak with Obama about the issue or go to the mayors and police chiefs and protest whenever they are in public? Walking in a library and screaming at white people seems a silly strategy when there are a lot of leaders who are African American who might be in a position to be able to help them? Oh and the students said saying All Lives Matter is definitely offensive and one should be expelled for doing so on the video I watched.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Good victory. Still need more than 7 hits a game but it all worked out fine.

Avi Needs to Go
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 12:58 AM) Ventura said there are no plans to send slumping DH Avi Garcia to minor leagues. #WhiteSox At least the media asked the question. Last year it was a given he was going nowhere. Maybe Avi will wake up when he hears the discussion about his ineptitude at the plate.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 03:55 AM) Pitching and defense. All you need. Go out and get someone who can play a good LF (and can hit a bit) and move Melky to DH We need Abreu to hit and a league average offense from shortstop and catcher at bare minimum.

BTW you can tell Stone loves working with this new announcer. I love Hawk but as a grouchy grandpa, he's way too grouchy way too often for a guy paid as much as Hawk is. Maybe Hawk will notice and act less pissy all season since this new guy is so happy to be there.

This is gonna be another nice win. Team is 2-1 since the 3-game losing streak I believe.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 02:23 AM) Kick that f***ing loser out of the park. This ain't Wrigley bro. Was it a Ranger fan? Why would a Sox fan throw the ball back on the field?? It was our double. Fans are so damn stupid. If you watch the play they never even considered thinking it might not be a good idea to grab a fair ball. I'm tellin you there should be so many more Bartmans throughout history. All fans go for the ball. Dumbasses.

The Offense
How to fix things. ... Never let Rollins bat second again. Got to go with Eaton, Melky, Abreu, Frazier and leave that be for a month as our top four. Flipflop Rollins with Saladino; change their roles. Do we have a minor league catcher who can hit .250?? If so, bring him up and have him split time with one of the Avila/Navarro tandem. Release the other guy. Seriously though, how can anybody disagree that Eaton, Melky, Abreu, Frazier, Lawrie, Saladino as our top six wouldn't be the way to go as the top six in our lineup?? Jackson draws some walks so his .180 batting average might even be OK as No. 7. Release Avi.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
QUOTE (harkness @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 02:06 AM) He is really struggling at the moment with his discipline. Robin mentioned it after the game in his interview at mlb.com. He seemed frustrated in that Jose has to be selective. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 02:19 AM) We should blow it up. Season is lost. For a mod, you'd think you know some things deserve to be discussed on a message board. Why is Jose off limits? Your line is unbecoming of a mod who should know better IMO. QUOTE (harkness @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 02:23 AM) The white sox analyst were wondering what is wrong with Abreau... Garfien and co were talking about it after the game. It's way too early to panic but I don't ever recall him looking this bad. Yes, it's worth discussing right now. If he was raking, our lineup would be looking a lot better. Melky has had a good start so the Eaton/Melky/Abreu threesome could be doing some damage if Abreu was doing Abreu-like things.

The Offense
I love Robin interview after the game when he ripped Abreu stressing to a reporter's question that he indeed right now "is a .190 hitter." He's acting like a .190 hitter, Robin said, swinging at s*** pitches. Robin is telling it like it is. Abreu knows better. Avi meanwhile? .140. It's time for the change of scenery trade for Avi. He's officially a White sox bust. Who would have thought the only thing preventing us from the WS matchup vs the Cubs (it's scary how good the Cubs are) was absolutely unacceptable hitting? Our pitching and defense looks GOOD! Rollins - He's now at .217. No reason to believe he'll hit .240; too old. Abreu - He's at .190. He'll be fine, but his lack of production is really hurting. Frazier - He's at .206. He'll be fine. Austin J - He's at .170 and appears to be a good field/no hit guy at this stage of his career. He really is a lousy hitter. I stress that I am not a Jackson hater tho. hater tho. At this time I give him benefit of doubt. Avilla/Navarro - Even worse than Tyler offensively or just as bad. We got problems offensively, folks.

Back to back day games today and tomorrow
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 02:38 AM) 12,093 for the night game, 12,785 for the day game (WED)...for an increase of 5.7%. Seems they're fighting for every possible fan they can get with those promotions (flash sales) for selected seats at $10 in different locations. Cincy (team in complete rebuild mode) at 12,979 and CLE at 9,890 today. Let's face it, Sox are at a possible historic (early 1970s?) low in terms of interest. 2005 was so great cause it was just the opposite. Chicago's Sox took the city by storm. Now?? Wow, if they moved to Las Vegas would anybody but us die-hards care?

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 03:10 AM) So has anyone else hit a fastball as well as Saladino on that HR? Now that is a quick f***ing bat. Granted the pitch had too much of the plate but pulling that 96mph heater like that is pretty damn impressive. He did that last year several times too. He looked like a helluva prospect. But like so many guys he just went in the tank after that good start last year. He ended up with a horrific OBP and batting average after 250 at bats or so. I don't know if he's a good prospect or not but occasionally he really rips the ball. I think at his age 26 I'd play him more than Rollins anyway.
-
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
Sale has taken that next step into unhittable. That's why maybe it is our year despite some obvious team weaknesses. Don't discount a Cubs-Sox WS just yet and if Sale and our other arms are still strong in the postseason, we might win it all.

***Gamethread 4./20 - Angels vs White Sox***
Great win. Should the new announcer be using "Sox win" as his game ending phrase?

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 09:49 PM) Really hate how Robin used the pen today. Who did you want in besides Nate? We probably lose the game if it's anybody but Nate/Albers.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) How many people made it to the park today? Maybe 1000? I wonder if actual attendance was under 5000. Certainly under 10000.

***Gamethread 4./20 - Angels vs White Sox***
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 09:27 PM) MLBTV skipped during that AB. Did Saladino hit the ball hard right at someone? Most routine DP ever 6-4-3. Horrible at bat.
-
***Gamethread 4./20 - Angels vs White Sox***
Saladino with the weak crap there. He did homer earlier, though. I'd take a Sale eighth and Robertson ninth and 2-0 win.

***Gamethread 4./20 - Angels vs White Sox***
Easton's beard is too long. He's looking like LaRoche. Nice hit by him, though.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 09:13 PM) Because of johnson's success in the MLB? Johnson is a young righty and I'm all about 3 lefty, two righty starters. Also Danks might have some value in the pen. As much as I love him, he is not a very good starter.

***Gamethread 4./20 - Angels vs White Sox***
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) Having Melky bunt while batting lefty and being one of the hotter Sox hitters is questionable especially with the bottom of the order coming up.Had to they'd put a runner on 1st to set up a DP . On the other hand, a 2-0 lead with Sale pitching. After the bunt it was looking mighty impressive that we had a man on third, one out just two pitches after the single.
