  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) What if you rolled through that stop sign like you obviously think you should be able to, at any time you want with no repurcussions, and some kid riding his bike home flies through the intersection in a black hoodie that makes him very hard to see and you hit him because you blew the stop sign? Why dont you quit begging for sympathy, pay your ticket, and stop at a stop sign like I do every time I get to one? And stop complaining about it. I dont support you, and the only one here being pompous is you because you feel like you dont deserve a ticket for breaking the law. the cop was doing his job My biggest problem with you is you often do not read my posts. You have some preconceived notion of me and you don't want to accept the fact I may be a normal law abiding good person. I have never denied I was guilty; I paid the fine the next day. As far as the kid flying through the intersection at 1 a.m., I'd see the bicyclists light on his bike in that scenario and I did 'stop' I just rolled through. I would ask you and all soxtalkers to comment on my comment about the cop breaking the unwritten rulebook code of cop-citizen in this case. Warning, no ticket for such an offense when the driver has nothing on his record. Baseball has a ton of unwritten rules; the cops had one in this town as well until I got pinched.
  2. QUOTE (glangon @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 11:22 AM) The Shark has given up more earned runs than any other pitcher this year. Another baseball non sequitir. The worst starting pitcher in baseball will be signed to a mega, mega million dollar deal. And the signing will be treated as great news by the fans that get him. He's the worst pitcher in baseball. Past performance means nothing once you are deemed an ace. Crazy stuff.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 12:45 PM) Im sure he is a healthy scratch. Because that totally makes sense in a pitching needy team, to scratch Mark Buehrle The Blue Jays manager seems like a buffoon to me. Just the fact he's totally owned KC in his career would have been a great reason to pitch him instead of Dickey. Oh well, I guess Mark is lying and Toronto is lying and he's ailing.
  4. How come the Cubs' bats have fizzed so much? Seems to me, their hitters are getting owned? Is it all because of the Mets flamethrowers? I've seen some nasty fastballs.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 07:45 PM) Why do you think giving money to a police organization should make you above the law? Because it's like baseball's "unwritten rule book." The unwritten cop-law-abiding citizen rule book says you get a warning for such a non-heinous crime such as rolling a stop sign when basically nobody's on the road. The cop had to be laughing his ass off on his way back to the car after nailing me. You can tell if a guy is being pompous to you and he was. The prick got his 140 bucks for the city. He should have done a little endzone dance for me cause he won the battle, yes he did. He really wanted a DUI though and didn't get the quinella this time.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) do you hear that sound? It is the worlds smallest violin playing the worlds saddest song Why don't you support the little guy? The man doesn't need my 140 bucks. I may have flaws but at least I am not an insensitive jerk. I do care about others. Some on here seem to be of the opinion I am a lowlife so to speak. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) Listen, greg donated money to his church and paid for his car registration. That should make him immune to traffic violations. I shouldn't have 'boasted' about my giving. You are not supposed to do that in life. I just mean I'm a law abiding citizen and average Joe who supports causes like the Policeman's Ball (if they approached me on it, I'd give) it's 1 a.m. and I'm not drinking and the cop shows no respect. Just wants my head on a platter and my cash. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) Greg fought the law and the law won. Greg fought the law and the law won. Last night at 1 again I went by the same stop sign. Good think I did my three second thing, I looked to my right and he was there again. I was safe as I stopped fully this time. It got me to thinking though. It's just your word against the cops. What if he came and ticketed me again and claimed I rolled it even though I did the three second count? I suspect I'd lose. Basically the cops say you rolled a stop you have no chance in court, right? Judges should take the word of the little guy if something like that happens.
  7. Awful news on Biden. Let the coronation begin. I'm 100 percent certain he got the word she's a lock and he'd just be embarrassed. Now he can go out on 'top' so to speak, with Obama. I am very sad about this. He obviously got the word it's Hillary time and he really doesn't want to lose again. I can't say I blame him. If he was a younger bulldog though he might want to tackle Hillary and give it a shot. As it stands he was vice president and he can give speeches in retirement and enjoy his family, etc., if that's what he wants. I can't believe with how bad things are in America we're just going to turn it over to a traditional do-nothing politician like Hillary. I mean even if she didn't break any laws, she knows the 'game' and she's as cagey (I didn't say slimy) as the rest of the career politicians. Why Joe, why? I know. You just didn't want to run if you were going to lose and it's Hillary coronation time as we all know.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 05:29 AM) Considering Buehrle had something like four cortisone shots throughout the season and is not on the playoff roster, I think it's safe to say Buehrle is not healthy or he'd be out there pitching. I read a quote from him that said he definitely was OK and could have pitched.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) Nah man, this s*** is gold. I've been paying a lot of money to the city lately. Just had to send in my registration fees for the car. Along with the money for the ticket.
  10. What's all this garbage about Muslims loving Obama or something? Give it a rest, Republicans or whomever is spouting that crap. Obama is a good American; he's just a lousy president/leader (I did vote for him the second time as Romney was appallingly unappealing to me).
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 04:02 AM) Oh no, I'm not friends with him and if I were, I'd never talk to him after this. He's known as a douche. People from New York are responding to him now How could anybody tweet that? I guarantee you if you send the link to Yahoo they'll write a story about the idiot. The media loves outing morons who tweet weird s***.
  12. Any team that picks LaTroy Hawkins over Mark Buehrle on its postseason pitching staff deserves to lose. My gosh. Fathom could DEFINITELY blast a double off Hawkins. LaTroy Hawkins??
  13. He was horrific. Any team that signs him for 18-25 million a year is crazy, but he will get the $$$. Just like Cueto. How can any GM pay a guy like Cueto. He goes 2 innings in the ALDS?? Gets ROCKED. Yet he'll get between 20 and 25 mill a year. Crazy. Good luck to the team that pays Shark and Cueto. Their pitches way too often scream, "hit me over the fence."
  14. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) My what big opinions you have greg-o. But are they good opinions in your opinion?
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) Biden has definitely shown he knows when to run for president. The political scene is so weird. Obama would win the next four elections if he could run another 16 years. Yet his VEEP is despised and it's Hillary the Democrats want to coronate. I don't get it. Why not give it to Biden eight years, then Michelle Obama? I'm being serious. She's a lot more likeable than Hillary and she could prep for the job by getting a spot in Biden's inner circle, maybe secretary of state. But Biden is despised by the Demos despite the fact his boss is beloved, and Hillary the only choice of the elite and the people. Weird. So let me summarize ... Obama? Would keep winning and winning if he could run again. His VEEP?: No chance. Hillary?: In by a landslide.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) Businesses have actually been making record profits for a while now. They why is nobody making any headway? I guess the CEO's are doing well.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) Are you posting from a time warp or something? Or possibly in the basement of Drudge Report HQ? I mean, income inequlaity is an issue and the economy isn't perfect, but it's been generally doing quite well the past few years (compared with history). Are you serious? Do you know any recent college grads? No jobs. Do you know anybody over 50? No jobs. Job outlook - grim. Middle class making no headway on retirement funds. Heading for a huge disaster when all these people above 55 start retiring. Retirement outlook - Poorhouse for people used to at least having food, leisure money. The economy is terrible. Businesses not making money, constantly laying people off. I've been reading about predictions of impending doom. So much money lost on stock market. Nation's debt ridiculous. WHy all the optimism in your post?
  18. So answer my question: Do Sox get a wildcard this past season if we had Madden instead of "I run a loose spring training camp and don't teach bunting or fundamentals" Robin Ventura? Remember Minnie almost made the playoffs. I say with Madden we were IN.
  19. Great news. CNN sources say Biden is running. He would not be running if he didn't think he had a GOOD chance of beating Ms. Hillary. He's got connections that must be telling him he has a good shot. I mean I know these people have big egos but Biden wouldn't risk this if he knew he was gonna lose. Cmon America. It's time for Biden!!! A Biden-Bernie ticket would be special.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 03:56 AM) Just once I want Greg to say something positive about this country. C'mon!!!! I'm a liberal Democrat and I can at least think of 10 1) Best university system in the world, especially graduate programs in medicine/MBA/law, etc. 2) First Amendment baby! 3) Most choices/variety for food/restaurants and retail shopping 4) Most religious diversity 5) Best sports leagues in the world (other than maybe EPL) 6) Accessibility to loans for cars, houses, higher education 7) Best entertainment (movies, tv shows, music, etc.) in the world 8) Cleaner air/water than developing world 9) Relative safety based on the remoteness of North American continent from the rest of the world 10) Best national parks and highway system for seeing the country Not a bad list. I think our lousy economy, however, is the biggest deal right now, though. I think we're in a world of hurt. I just hope we avoid a total collapse of the banking system and all our savings are gone and we'll be on the street once we get laid off by our broke employers.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) https://www.yahoo.com/politics/cia-shrugs-o...9243022390.html Uh oh...CIA not convinced by Benghazi email investigation that top secret national security that would put lives at risk was breached. This is all nothing. She's skating free of any responsibility. Look, the fix is in. Hillary is president the next 8 years. Pity the middle class and poor. We're doomed economically 8 more years which pretty much will guarantee 2 generations of kids will not even have it as good as their parents (unless born wealthy).
  22. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) I'm tuning into all the Cubs playoff games for two reasons: 1) I like intense postseason baseball - the kind that we Sox fans unfortunately won't be seeing our team involved in for another decade 2) I have to be there for the inevitable Cubs screwup/curse that ends their 2015 Cinderella story. It's gonna happen, you watch! So far Cubs haven't done squat in this series. They might battle back but they've looked like s*** so far.
  23. OK ... on a lighter note, SNL opened with a political skit again on the democratic debate. They got it right in getting the guy from Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David, to play Bernie Sanders. Unfortunately he wasn't funny. Bad writing. Alec Baldwin was the closest to being funny and he wasn't. The only chuckle came again from the great Kate McKinnon who usually has at least one funny Hillary line. Her material wasn't really that good either, just the basic funny premise that Hillary wants to be president so badly. Did you watch it? Think it was OK? I'd give the skit a C-. And the Larry David part a D. Sorry SNL. Not funny enough. On a serious note: Guys, I've been thinking more about her email thing. I'm thinking if this was anybody else she'd be out of the race over this issue. I'm thinking she is skating on this one and it probably was serious enough to take down anybody else who had done it.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 03:33 AM) Just like Puig to the White Sox for Quintana, unless they're 100% convinced Ryu will be healthy next year...then they'd be better off picking a couple of 3-5 guys off the second and third tier FA list. Of course, it depends on what happens with Greinke. Nobody is going to be rushing out after Price and Cueto with their shakiness issues (or just general problems adjusting to the AL in Cueto's case). But who knows...everyone's waiting to see the dollar signs with Greinke, Heyward, Cespedes, Upton, Price and Cueto posted first. Yeah there are only so many big market teams. Those teams already have some of the insane contracts. I mean Greinke I read is getting 150 mill for 5 years. That's 30 mill a year. WHoever pays that can keep signing others? Are "normal" payrolls going to be 200 to 250 million and the big market teams 400 mill? You'd think owners would wise up some year. Uh, Minnesota almost made the playoffs. Yes Minnesota. They didn't need no massive contracts cept for Mauer.
  25. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 05:43 AM) Do you really think that Maddon would have made the Sox 16 games better this past season? I sort of do because I don't see anything special on the Cubs roster right now compared to ours (considering the Flubs stars are so young; now potentially it's a different story). I think Robin epically failed and Madden somehow got a similar team to win 97 games.
